Since it’s all third-party folks showcasing it, I hope Reggie does it too one of these days for that extra blast of nostalgia. MY BODY IS (STILL) READY!!! #bringBackReggie
Well, that’s certainly something. Very unfortunate for these folks, especially not being able to prove you opened it and saw that. Now everyone has to play the part of the unboxer culture and film themselves opening things so they have proof of this. “Dad, why do you have so many unboxing videos on your phone? I didn’t know you were into that. Times must’ve been tough, financially, huh?” “Actually yes but I sold photos of my feet, not these unboxing videos. It’s a long story.”
I somehow read the headline as there was an unused mask in the game that was triggered by using your voice.
In my defense, I just woke up. But also, what’s my excuse for this type of thing other times of the day?
This is really cool and very Nintendo. I’ve been wanting to play Majora’s Mask again for awhile but I’m crawling through Ocarina over the past few months. I’m probably going to play on 3DS, not NSO, since it has all the QOL features. So many games have come out and I’m really trying to make a dent in my back catalogue!
Happy new year!! Thanks for all the great articles, reviews, soapboxes, moderation, going to Japan and documenting your store visits… the list would be big if I actually kept one, but keeping it simple, you are and probably will always be the site I visit multiple times daily. This community is great and it’s just fun to interact with like-minded Nintendo fanatics. Here’s to a happy and healthy 2025. We’ll work with what we’ve got now (plus a switch 2).
Reminds me of the 3DS days with mostly quality over quantity.
I acquired so many games the end of this year. I’ll HAPPILY give my wallet a much needed break. My next buy is Bakeru physical and after that I don’t know…. Still waiting on Dragonyhm for GBC too!
I’m about 5 hours in and I’m loving it! Some slight performance hiccups, notably as the camera pans around scenes but otherwise it’s a smooth 60 on switch. I really want to try/play DQIII too but there’s no way I have time for both. 😫
I’m working on a game at the moment in my spare time and at this rate it would take years to complete and come to full fruition.
If someone copied my game name and concept and was trying to mislead and divert money I thought I should earn after all this hard work, I’d be livid, especially if no response was given by the owner of the shop.
I have no sympathy for the copy cats and I hope they receive the full business end of the law here. I also hope Nintendo does something, perhaps more proactively, with the new system. In the end though, every game that gets on the shop and every transaction that happens, Nintendo gets a cut I think, so I can’t see them being in a hurry to stifle that income.
This nails the style I look for and is truly what I consider pixel art. I’m not trashing the pixel style of say, Hyper Light Drifter, or Moonlighter, but those styles don’t really do it for me. This style here though looks authentic and tasty. I’m likely getting this!
While on topic of NSO, I wish they would make the NSO apps check in automatically, or at least if I check one in, check them all in. I got burned one time on a flight because I hadn’t checked in all my NSO apps and therefore couldn’t play games in them because it couldn’t verify my subscription.
Am I missing something? Is there a way to just check in with all the NSO apps in one go?
First thing I checked was if there were one-hit deaths. That’s a negative and so I’m definitely buying this. I bought waaaayyyy too many games (on sale) this past month (seriously though) so far but this one is at a pretty good price point so I’m doing it.
I heard there is a glimpse of the Switch 2 tucked away in the Silo level of Goldeneye. You have to blow up a secret wall and it’s on a table in there or something. Source: my uncle who works at the Silo.
If I could go back in time and not do this kind of thing one of the previous years, I would. My “Redownload” tab in the eshop has a few ….”stains”… that won’t come out. I’m never going to play those games I got for free in there and I wish I could just hide them or get rid of them. This is like that recent article NL just put out about all the stunted games on the shop. If you like these kinds of games, more power to you! But if you care about having these in your history seemingly ^forever, I’d avoid it.
^ I say forever because with rumors of this eshop rolling over into the next Nintendo gen, I would assume my history will follow right along. I want those games out of my history!!
Ok now this I’ll be listening to!! I frequent Ocarina of Time and Star Fox and I’m 100% adding this to my rotation. Whoever thought of and approved making this music app are geniuses!
I listen to game music a lot and I don’t always sync it over to my phone because… well it could be embarrassing sometimes… but having it segregated over to this app and available as needed is so cool. I’m also someone who hates the idea of streaming things but for this it works well for me. It feels so Nintendo.
I’ll be getting this but not at full price, I just can’t right now. Nothing against it but $50 is the sweet spot, not $60.
I have it on 3DS too if I really want to get down to business in the meantime.
If this is true, I’m so happy. I never got to play the game. Worse, because of the way 3DS demos worked, letting you boot them no more than 30 times, I also had paralysis every time I went to try it. I didn’t want to waste those precious 30 plays… it’s stupid I know but that’s how my mind works sometimes.
I know it’s critically acclaimed and always seemed to fetch a high price on the used market.
@Sylamp I came down here to say the exact same thing. “What fans and the team want it to be” sounds promising but who knows at this point. It would be very wise of them to work that part out anyway.
I agree here- I always sympathize with y’all having to create and hyperlink and type out all those (I’ll use the words) awful shovelware games. Back in the day I used to look forward to Thursdays and reading your lists but not this generation. It’s just mud and dirt and like one or two actual games. It’s gotta be crushing for the developers too having their game tucked in the cracks between all that crap. It should be the other way around having the crap tucked in between the gems. Options are great, I hope there are some decent tools to block developers.
On another note. I took part in one of those .99 cent game per day all month things one year and I highly regret it now. My purchase history is littered with crap games I’ll never play and have never played. They’re not downloaded but they’re on my Redownload tab with no way to permanently hide them. More garbage to sift through to get to what I actually want or need.
@nuff64 haha noted! I can see the charm and I do love to collect so I’m actually probably going to keep an eye out for it now lol. I love Top Gear 1 and 2 on gameboy color so I get it!
No I understand that (although I definitely didn't read the article thoroughly — guilty! 🙋♂️)
I guess I just find it hard to believe that "no one" wanted to take over the project. If I were Nintendo I'd be pushing hard to keep it alive. How many times do we read articles of devs that would love to work with Nintendo. Sure, Nintendo looks for top notch but still.
Sure, Nintendo, kill off one of your most fun, inventive, and graphically flare series. Sometimes I don’t know if Nintendo is run by humans or really lucky hamsters. Sure, I know not every game is for everyone, but the Mario and Luigi series is just truly a unicorn. It leans into the comedy, brings some interesting pieces (like rhythm) to standard RPG turn-based combat, and is a different take on standard Mario games. I think it should be considered a Mario tripod. You have the 3D Mario, the side screen Mario, and the RPG Mario. Perfectly balanced.
I can’t believe they’re not making this a smooth transition from paid to free with this wait period. For a game that demands so much interaction, forcing a hard break is strange. Sure it’s only a few days but for folks who had and have a daily streak going, that’s going to kill momentum from your best players. Curious to see if there was any bigger player dropoff from this.
@BulbasaurusRex yaaaaa it’s not too bad but there’s definitely a part of me that knows damn well I’d turn that complete full mapping feature on if there was one. It’s not bad on switch but it took me a good hour to get comfortable without having a stylus. Definitely best played on the dual screen setup but still enjoyable on switch.
@BulbasaurusRex There is an “automapping” feature in the settings that you can turn on and change between: ON: only floor tiles you cross over will be mapped OFF: no automapping at all FULL: all floor tiles and walls get added automatically (with the feature on).

I am so happy ya’ll put streetpass on this list. If you hadn’t, I was going to.
That’s my number 1 missed feature on Switch. I’d actually be taking my lite out of the house if that were a thing!
I can tell Nintendo played it “safe” somewhat after the Wii U “failure” (that’s not what I’d call it but that’s what it’s known as sadly.) So I feel the next Switch will be a fully realized version, incorporating lots more fun Nintendo flair. Would also love to see an adapter of some sorts that allows us to plug in 3DS carts or something like that or even a motion control bar like the Wii had so I could properly enjoy house of the dead remake and other light gun games. I suppose that’s where that extra USB port could come into play…. Happy holidays everyone! These speculation articles are fun
That’s disheartening. I had it preordered (in America) but quickly realized I was going to drop it once Fantasian comes out so I cancelled for now. Will be 100% getting it at a later date. I don’t want to be part of the problem! It looks like the best HD-2D game so far and I don’t want to miss out.
Solid drop!! I’m so close to ordering the Genesis NSO controller. I beat Landstalker a few months ago and that was the first time I had done so since the late 90s. Maybe my second time ever beating it. It was like revisiting a dream… I’m going to be playing these as well
I check this site religiously every day, multiple times a day, and I never saw that the first released last week. How did I miss that?! This is great news! I bet, and have a feeling, we’re about to get Donkey Kong 64 dropped ….And while on topic, I bet Conker shows up on the Mature 64 app…
I just sold my 3DS launch edition copy of Perfect Chronology and I regret it. I am hoping it comes to Switch as a port and that’s what drove me to sell it while I could get a nice price for it. Anyway, hoping it comes to Switch!
Cassette Beasts is such a good game. It's familiar but does so many things different in such interesting ways. Like using fire attacks on metal enemies or using water on fire enemies changes their elemental properties, etc. I love that you can learn more than 4 moves... the soundtrack is phenomenal... Definitely my Pokémon killer. I need to go back and finish it, I was really enjoying it.
Interested to see new content! Didn't know that would ever be a thing.
I’ve finally sunk my teeth into Xenoblade Definitive Edition on switch and even though I’ve played it on Wii and 3DS, it’s hitting so differently on Switch. Im enjoying it sooo much more than I have in the past. I got Mario & Luigi and Xenoblade the same day and haven’t been able to put Xenoblade down to give Mario and Luigi and try. And I was more excited about M&L! Point being, I’ll be getting X next year so hopefully it at least connects to the first!
Well this came out of nowhere! I’m going to be getting this after I read some reviews. The 88% on Steam is very promising but I take NintendoLife reviews as one of the final words almost always :: hint hint :: so hopefully there is a review soon. I’m always down for these kinds of games so hoping it does well!
@roy130390 @rozetta I’ve come to learn that the people who refer to the game as a walking simulator have never played it and/or would rather just keep replaying the same open world Ubisoft-athon call of duty regurgitated nonsense over and over. Kojima is the only one I can think of that’s actually doing different things and expanding boundaries.
My Brothership order didn’t even ship yet from PlayAsia! 😫 Expected… but I’ll be having a delayed start on that one. Can’t wait to give it a shot though; the Mario & Luigi games were some of the best experiences I’ve had with the 3DS. Dream Team and Paper Jam were my favorites.
I was hyper excited about this game but I’m not so sure now… I’m sure I will absolutely buy it at some point but I’m dropping it down off the “buy now” list where it’s been for almost half a year.
I have that Goblin Slayer TRPG coming next next month which also looks fantastic.
The next one I’m looking forward to is that R-Type Tactics Cosmos game coming out.
@RupeeClock If the new Metroid Prime isn't a switch successor launch title, I'm going to be shine-sparked. Don't get me wrong, it wouldn't be the first time I'm shocked by a decision from Nintendo but that would be a massive missed opportunity. It might even be a dual-system launch ("Switch 2" version and OG Switch version.)
Honestly not happy about the random encounters but that’s not a deal breaker for me. Any other game it might be but I know I’m going to love this I was really hoping to beat Mario RPG before this but it doesn’t look like that’s happening now!

I’m sure I will absolutely buy it at some point but I’m dropping it down off the “buy now” list where it’s been for almost half a year.
I have that Goblin Slayer TRPG coming next next month which also looks fantastic.
The next one I’m looking forward to is that R-Type Tactics Cosmos game coming out.
Hopefully those 2 above are good too!
Re: Talking Point: Nintendo's Latest Financials Make One Thing Abundantly Clear
@RupeeClock If the new Metroid Prime isn't a switch successor launch title, I'm going to be shine-sparked. Don't get me wrong, it wouldn't be the first time I'm shocked by a decision from Nintendo but that would be a massive missed opportunity. It might even be a dual-system launch ("Switch 2" version and OG Switch version.)

“… a 3DS crash forced them out of the game.”
Well well well… what was all that stability talk?
Re: Review: Mario & Luigi: Brothership (Switch) - Easily The Best Mario & Luigi RPG Yet
Honestly not happy about the random encounters but that’s not a deal breaker for me. Any other game it might be but I know I’m going to love this
I was really hoping to beat Mario RPG before this but it doesn’t look like that’s happening now!
