Re: Random: Takaya Imamura Ponders The Possibility Of Star Fox Zero On 'Switch 2'

ChromaticDracula

I’d almost want to see them do a Star Fox Metroidvania. Not a side scroller but more or less an “open world” that I can fly around in and land to get out and walk around if need be. Like, a better version of Starlink.
Then again, I’m fully okay with another purely on-rails take on the series but if they’re looking for something new, I think that is the natural progression route.

Re: Random: Takaya Imamura Ponders The Possibility Of Star Fox Zero On 'Switch 2'

ChromaticDracula

@RupeeClock that was my gripe; the game was utterly beautiful and brimming with detail and then it made you view smaller zoomed in areas through that little gamepad screen. Although I think it was a cool idea, it 100% took away the immersion in the environments. It would’ve been cool for a few levels as a “gimmick” but having to do it so often hurt the experience overall.

Re: So, Will You Be Listening To The New Mobile App Nintendo Music?

ChromaticDracula

My personal collection includes:
All NES castlevanias, Rondo of Blood/Dracula X, Castlevania 64, Shinobi 3, Sonic 3 & Knuckles, Kirby’s adventure, blaster master, Tunic, Earthbound, Vengeful Guardian…
I will likely listen to the Nintendo app for Nintendo stuff where able, but for everything else I’m going the personal collection route since a lot isn’t Nintendo.
That being said I totally get why Nintendo is doing this and I think it’s a smart (and fun!) move.

Re: Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition Confirmed For Switch

ChromaticDracula

@Ooyah @thor8467 Ha! It's a solid game! Granted I don't think I've ever beaten Quest 64 (or, "Holy Magic Century" — man, I love that name!) but I really used to love renting it weekend after weekend back in the day. I think it holds up and is done well enough playing it on my emulator over the years.

Have you played Return to Popolocrois: A Story of Seasons Fairytale on 3DS? I felt the battle system was similar on there and that was half the reason I enjoyed that game so much too. because it reminded me of Quest 64/HMC.
I pre-ordered the Analogue 3D the other day so now I'm on the hunt for my final N64 carts I want to round out my collection. Quest 64 is one of them! I will beat it this time!

Re: Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition Confirmed For Switch

ChromaticDracula

@thor8467 I think I fall in the minority that I liked Quest 64. I thought it was a fun game!
Thanks for this, this is helpful
I'm pretty sold on X now, it seems critically acclaimed across the board. I know it doesn't mean I too have to like it but I'm willing to give it a fair shot and make my own opinion. I'm considering revisiting the first one again now as well. Why Nintendo/Monolith Soft, why must you do this to my wallet!?

Re: Switch Online's "Mature" N64 App Expands With Two More Games

ChromaticDracula

@Dpishere Odd for sure... Considering the QOL improvements you can get with those remasters. But, can't and won't complain because I do like having the muddy graphics sometimes when I feel like taking a time travel to the old days. Turok 1 and 2 were among my favorite N64 games so I'm pretty happy. Never played Shadowman until the Nightdive remaster.

Re: Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition Confirmed For Switch

ChromaticDracula

ugh, this series never clicked with me because of the combat but now that they're basically all on the system, I feel obligated. These games looks so good and are built with quality but I just would rather a more final fantasy 7 remake style combat system.
Serious question, has anyone played Quest 64? Would you compare that Xenoblade's combat? I enjoyed Quest 64 so maybe I will enjoy Xenoblade after all?

Re: 'Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp Complete' Arrives On Mobile This December

ChromaticDracula

I thoroughly enjoy the game, especially around October/November/December. I usually play it heavily around now and then delete it after this holiday stretch.
I just don’t care for mobile gaming so I ultimately delete it to free up room, etc.
I did sink hours upon hours into it though! It’s really fun and because it’s October/November/December again, I just redownloaded it and plan to buy it at the discount when able.

Re: Nintendo Download: 24th October (North America)

ChromaticDracula

Here just sitting and waiting for that sweet-looking Goblin Slayer game to release. Supposed to be tomorrow according to my calendar. After I post this comment I’m going to check and see if that’s still true. I expected to see that game mentioned in this article so now I’m nervous it got delayed!
UPDATE: Now releases 11/15 according to US eshop. That’ll be a tough, the week after Brothership releases. :: goes back to sitting and waiting ::

Re: Preview: Mario & Luigi: Brothership - A Couple Of Concerns, But Otherwise Looking Shipshape

ChromaticDracula

I wish Paper Mario was in this 😫
Having that extra button really amped up the difficulty for me in Paper Jam. Every enemy had that 3rd angle of attack and really kept you on your toes. I’ve been meaning to go back and play that one again, it’s so damn good and represents the pinnacle of these games having that third button.
Anyway, still excited for this one regardless as it looks fantastic! Should be fun on my switch lite around the chilly months

Re: Review: Fear The Spotlight (Switch) - A Retro-Styled, Narrative Horror Gem & A Must-Play

ChromaticDracula

I feel like all the horror games are releasing at once! Other years I feel they are generally hard to come by, or you need to replay older games.
Will pick this up eventually after SH2, FAITH, Mario RPG… yikes… Mario and Luigi brothership, Dragon Quest…. Bakeru… River City girls 1+2, Fantasian… ooof… I just realized I have quite a wave of games incoming in the next few months. It will prove difficult to find time for all this!

Re: FAITH: The Unholy Trinity (Switch) - A Profane Indie Horror Triumph That Will (One Hit) Kill You

ChromaticDracula

I had completely forgotten about this game! I was waiting for a review either way but this solidifies the deal. I’ll be getting this and somehow finding the time between Silent Hill 2 and Mario RPG to play it.
I’m debating going physical with it or just sticking to digital 🤔
UPDATE: went digital with the 10% launch discount. Can’t beat that with a vat of holy water or a boomerang cross…. Errr wait this isn’t Castlevania.

Re: Round Up: The Previews Are In For Mario & Luigi: Brothership

ChromaticDracula

Caaannttt waaaaaiittt…!

I’m playing through silent hill 2, and in between finally playing Mario RPG and I’m LOVING that. I don’t want to start Brothership until I beat RPG, and I probably won’t beat RPG until I finish Silent Hill 2. Point is, these 3 gams have my full attention at the moment. After these 3 I’ll have to go back to Zelda, which I put down when Silent Hill 2 came out.

Re: PSA: Don't Be Alarmed, Nintendo's New Clock Isn't A "Limited-Time" Product

ChromaticDracula

@GarlicGuzzler precisely. I sometimes set game sound effects as ringtones/text tones and then regret it because it sort of ruins the novelty after hearing it go off so many times throughout the day.
Anywho… I cancelled my preorder for this reason. I don’t want to associate these sounds with waking up. Even hearing my own stock iPhone alarm sound at any other time of the day is literally triggering to me.

Re: Poll: Are You Bothered By The Frame Rate In Zelda: Echoes Of Wisdom?

ChromaticDracula

I’ll meet y’all in the middle and say yes, there are moments of slowdown, where I’ll define slowdown as the framerate lowered for about 2-3 seconds. Did it ruin my game at all? Not in the slightest. It’s not like the music skipped and the screen glitched and the game crashed. It’s totally tolerable.
Do I wish it wasn’t there? Sure… but it in no way affects my enjoyment. If the game was touting realistic graphics and true-to-life environments etc, maybe it would have more of an impact. I let it fly

Re: Christmas Comes Early In This Blatant Super Mario Bros. 3 Clone

ChromaticDracula

@-wc- you do make a good point… perhaps I will reconsider. As I said though, I’ll wait for a review (meaning, if it plays as well as its inspiration, I’ll be buying!)
Mario 3 has a dear spot in my heart (as I’m sure it does for many) so any more of that that I can get will make me happy. This actually gives me Mario Maker Wii U vibes and that’s a good thing.

Re: Gallery: Here's The Switch Lite Hyrule Edition In All Its Zelda-Themed Beauty

ChromaticDracula

2/2 @PillowPants Overall, it's kind of clunky and not ideal but I haven't had any issues with it so far so it does work. I do not regret getting the Switch Lite at all; You asked if it was worth it more or less and I say YES. I love the proper D-pad and I love having this massive library with me when I go on trips. For example, I finally beat Landstalker (Genesis NSO) again for the first time since I was like 12 or something because it was so enjoyable on the Lite. I used to have my soul tethered to my 3DS because it was the ultimate portable system (frankly, it's still tempting to take this with me sometimes...) but now the Switch has finally become my go-to because of how portable the Lite is. It's also really great having the cloud saves be able to bounce back and forth between the docked console and handheld. Wife wants the TV? Cool, let me close the game out and pop over to my more comfortable Lite and pick right up where I left off.

Hope this helps!

Re: Gallery: Here's The Switch Lite Hyrule Edition In All Its Zelda-Themed Beauty

ChromaticDracula

1/2 @Pillowpants LONG ANSWER WARNING: I went through this exact predicament. I only play docked and I really don't care for the analog sticks on the switch so didn't think I'd enjoy handheld only that much. But...here's my experience thus far after about 3 months with a Lite and a docked Switch:
Getting the Switch Lite up and running was easy. I had to manually re-download all my titles from the eShop. I had to keep checking on it periodically for about 24 hours because some downloads would just stop or halt and not continue. I had to keep re-triggering them, etc.
Then, for whatever reason, every single game I downloaded, I had to go into the game's settings (the screen where you can redeem gold points for carts) and manually tell each one to download my cloud data that very first time. After this first time, everything is automatic but I had to do this step ONCE for each game.
Next, you then have to decide what your main switch will be. The main switch is the console that automatically downloads new digital games and the system that gets your demos that you select to download from eShop in the browser.
Despite my docked regular Switch being my main way to play Switch games, I ultimately decided that my Switch Lite is my primary console as far as the eShop is concerned, and here is why: The non-primary Switch (docked, at home) needs to touch base with Nintendo's servers every time you boot a digital game. That of course requires an internet connection. So for example, if I go to play my non-primary Switch Lite on an airplane, and it can't connect to Wi-Fi, I can't play my digital game. This does not affect physical carts, you can play them 24 hours a day whenever. The other part of this is that if someone is home on your docked Switch playing the digital version of Echoes of Wisdom and you go to play that same downloaded digital copy on your Switch Lite, you won't be able to. For digital games, the console that boots the digital game first gets priority and won't let you play it on another console until the game is closed. Again, this does not affect physical carts (if each system has a physical Echoes of Wisdom cart inserted, you're good to go), it is only for digital games.
The solution is to set the console that won't have Wi-Fi readily available at all times as the primary.

So, my current workflow/setup:
My main OG launch day switch stays docked and on basically always on Wi-Fi. I play this the most and always remember to close my game out when I'm done to "free it up." Every time I boot a digital game, it does a quick Nintendo server handshake ("Checking if game can be played") and then boots into the game. This is never a problem because again, I'm always on Wi-Fi.
For my Switch Lite, I take this with me on trips and because it's the "primary" console, it doesn't require a quick Nintendo server hand-shake every time I boot a digital game. (See 2/2)

Re: Poll: What Review Score Would You Give The Legend Of Zelda: Echoes Of Wisdom?

ChromaticDracula

My only 2 gripes are the target lock-on (rather, the inability to switch targets with the other stick), and the massive list of Echoes and getting through them.
Honestly, the latter has been fine and I don’t have solution other than categorizing them (enemy, furniture, etc.) which would maybe make things even worse but it’s a biiiiig menu to scroll through once you have gotten a nice chunk of echoes.

Either way, I gave it a 9 because it’s just shy of perfection. Hiccups haven’t been crushing, gameplay has me engaged more than lots of other games that came out recently, and it’s fun to play and discover things in the overworld. It’s a blend of BOTW and old-school Zelda. I absolutely love it!

Those keychains — I NEEEEDDD THEM.

Side note: Never heard of Bluesky (the link you posted) and legit thought it was just Twitter at first. I got off Twitter years ago and then just full-on deleted my account once you-know-who-took over but I'm willing to support this new open-source Bluesky platform. Might make an account...

Re: Fantasian Neo Dimension Releases On Switch December 2024

ChromaticDracula

Ya'll may not know this but I've been waiting for this game to be freed from Apple's clutches for forever. I didn't think it would happen and a lot of you also thought the same but boy were we wrong! I wonder if we'll get a physical copy at some point... This is one I'd spring for being that it's so deeply-rooted in Final Fantasy.

@awaltzforvenus what, where did you preorder the physical cart from?? Let me guess, PlayAsia? I'm going to check right now.
