Re: Sega Reports 'Sluggish' Sales Of Sonic Superstars And Other Major Titles

ChromaticDracula

As a huge 2D Sonic fan, I still haven’t bought it either. It’s just because it released in a month where I could only pick and choose so many games and also buy gifts and…
I ended up getting Mario Wonder and I didn’t even buy Spiderman 2 yet either.
Times are tough and you have to trust your instincts (Thanks, Peppy)
I do plan to get Sonic someday, maybe soon, but that’s why I’ve held off.
I would’ve rathered another Sonic Mania style game. New zones, 2D Sonic, cool music…. You know.
If that had released I’d 100% have bought that over Mario Wonder.

Re: Limited Run Games Announces Retro SHMUP Combo Pack For Switch

ChromaticDracula

I more or less despised shmups my whole life. I always tried them but ultimately would give up for how delicate and twitchy they can be.
Gleylancer’s Switch release switched that for me. I just thought I’d give it a try and I’m so glad I did. The music, the story, the gameplay… all 🤌
And I love how NG+ runs increase difficulty.
I think I might get this if only to have Gleylancer on a cart.

Re: Soapbox: An Ode To Marble Garden, Sonic The Hedgehog 3's Best Zone

ChromaticDracula

I never understood why Sonic 2 is ranked higher than Sonic 3 and even Sonic & Knuckles.
Don’t get me wrong, Sonic 2 is phenomenal but to me Sonic 3 (& Knuckles) cripples the previous entries. Marble Garden’s music is top notch.
All the music is still stuck in my head from 3 and knuckles and likely always will until I’m dead.

Well crap now I wanna play the game having talked about it.

Re: Limited Edition Shovel Knight Switch Joy-Con Revealed, Pre-Orders Now Live

ChromaticDracula

I really dig these but that price tag is outrageous. No chance…
If I knew these would be usable with Super Switch I’d MAYBE consider it (I still have my OG joy cons only for my launch day switch) but with this gen on its way out it’s hard to justify. Still... Either way you cut it, that price is WOAH.

Maybe I’m not a big enough shovel knight fan: if these were Tunic joy cons, I’d probably be going for it.

Re: Talking Point: Do You Want To See Colourful Cartridges Return For 'Switch 2'?

ChromaticDracula

I’m surprised we didn’t get colored carts this gen.
Well actually, I’m not surprised and here’s why:
After the Wii U, I feel like Nintendo played it real safe with the Switch as in, very focused, very bare-bones, plays games, plays them well. They made a simple basic cartridge, a simple system UI, basic features, one cart color, etc.
I think the next system will be a fully realized Switch. Perhaps the next will have those extra features like StreetPass, more USB peripherals for the dock like maybe a sensor bar to allow light guns or the ability to plug in 3DS carts or stuff like that, and colored carts.
Nintendo doesn’t have to play it safe anymore in other words: the Switch is crazy successful so they have more room to play now as opposed to trailing the Wii U which I’m sure made them take a hit financially.
Switch 2 will be the Switch fully realized — with colored special edition (gold Zelda) carts — mark my words.

Re: Yet Another 'Silver Falls' Remaster Lands On Switch Today

ChromaticDracula

I honestly do like that idea quite a bit too. I love how they let you connect everything too… I might need to give these a proper go, the 3DS game wasn’t all that bad, especially for a handheld title.

This whole thing sort of reminds me of a Fargo/Zelda/American Horror Story kind of thing where it’s all the same universe but there are different versions of stories and they connect sort of …
It’s a cool concept.

Re: Nintendo Switch Menu Mockups Found On Prototype Console

ChromaticDracula

The Switch menu is barebones and I kind of like it that way.
It’s boring sure… well, it’s really boring…. But it works. It does its job flawlessly and is the cleanest, least confusing menu ever. No questions.
I think themes with accompanying sounds (aka 3DS) would be the next evolutionary step but everything works great as is so whatever.

Now, I will say, browsing the eshop is like walking through the swamps in never ending story. I be looking for Artex up in there. 😭

That’s a RAM issue though, yeah?

Re: Players Need To Start "Feeling Comfortable" With Not Owning Games, Says Ubisoft Subs Boss

ChromaticDracula

Not only games, if I buy anything, I want it to be accessible and available to me when I want it. Why would anyone willingly say this when we know game prices are supposedly on the rise next gen. Yeah, let me pay even more but then not have it be mine.
At least offer a way for us to back the game up ourselves or put it onto media for future availability for ourselves or something. What a load of c**p from Ubisoft.

Re: 'Alisa Developer's Cut' Channels PS1 Survival Horror In All The Right Ways

ChromaticDracula

Saw this posted over on the sister site (PS) and watched the trailer specifically to see if Switch was getting it and YES!
I wrote something similar over there but the style looks like it’s been nailed right. The 60fps though seems weird to me though but that’s probably because I’m seeing that kind of thing for the first time (60fps and PS1 graphics together).
If there’s a way to turn the fps down to 30 I’ll be doing it. I may get comfortable with 60 though.. DOESN’T MATTER, I’m still buying it either way!!

@SilentHunter382 that’s actually a really cool tip, thank you! Can’t wait to find out why

Re: Nintendo Download: 4th January (North America)

ChromaticDracula

Just beat Tunic last night 🥺
That was one of the best gaming experiences I’ve ever…. Experienced.
I just restarted my Hyper Light Drifter file that I abandoned in 2019 and that I had about 7.5 hours in. I need more cryptic action/adventure RPGs! I don’t know if anything will top Tunic though, sooo much love and care went in.
I’m waiting for my physical GBC copy of Repugnant Bounty to come in any day now then I’ll be hopping over to that for my fix.

Re: Bill & Ted's Excellent Retro Collection Is About To Be Delisted On The Switch eShop

ChromaticDracula

@CharlieFen I'll chime in too: For me, I've been waiting for Trip World DX (GBC) since April. I feel like that's a loooong time.

Now, I'm not complaining per say, but either way you slice it that's a long wait.
Luckily I'm not someone switching addresses and stuff frequently but I could imagine some people's situations change over the course of a year and that can cause some extra stress.

Re: The Pokémon Company Outlines Fixes For Scarlet & Violet's Next Update

ChromaticDracula

I hate to (continue) beat(ing) the dead horse but no thank you. Played the game and couldn't bring myself to go any further than the first gym. Out of principle, I couldn't play the game for how bad of a state it remains in. I'm the furthest thing from someone who relies on graphics and performance but this is just outright jarring and sloppy. It feels like knockoff of its own series but done by amateurs.

While on the topic, I also despise the art direction they've been going with. I prefer the cell shaded look or the 3DS look. Cartoony but not this weird smooth surface hybrid stuff. Sun/Mon were peak for me: pixel graphics, non-chibi npcs, smooth gameplay, huge Pokédex, no need for HM dedicated Pokémon... It's gone down-hill since... Sword/Shield were great but that's when my burnout hit with the repetitive same gameplay: gyms, trainers, bland time-waste/fluff side-quests... That's why I was so looking forward to Scarlet/Violet because it truly finally shook up the gameplay with an open world.
Fooled me, devs! Fooled me real good and it won't happen again.

Re: Review: Dodonpachi DaiOuJou Blissful Death Re:Incarnation (Switch) - Poetic Bullet-Hell Perfection

ChromaticDracula

NOT a bullet-hell shmup fan in the slightest but who can ignore a 10/10. I can barely see the player ship in those screenshots but screw it, I'll be damned if I don't like a good painful yet rewarding game.

EDIT: I just did a search online of some gameplay videos: Honestly., this looks like a quality game through and through with tons of care. I saw the menus and modes and settings. I just don't think I can do it. I'd have died so many times within the first minute.
Bullet Hells I tell ya! Maybe someday...

Re: Fan-Made 'Link's Awakening DX HD' Port Taken Down By Nintendo

ChromaticDracula

This was 100% patent infringement and 110% within Nintendo’s rights. Even worse, the game is available by Nintendo directly, albeit in its original (and still very much playable) form.
But as a proof of concept, that HD DX thing was freaking amazing…
I’d almost rather that then the remake we got. The remake is fantastic in its own right but if you’re a nostalgia-holic such as myself, Well… ya… you know what one I’d pick over the other.

Re: PC Port Of Zelda: Link's Awakening Offers HD Visuals And 120fps Scrolling

ChromaticDracula

I was standing there with my arms crossed watching this saying internally, "Nah, why HD visuals on gameboy game? I always put settings back to make them look like the original anyway..." Then the screen borders get pushed and I really noticed the screen scrolling and it clicked. Amazing. I'd play this if it were on handheld. Not a PC gamer.

I wonder how the dungeons are handled.. all black outside the play area? That won't look so jaw dropping.

Re: No Gravity Games Is Giving Away 12 Free Switch Games This Month (North America)

ChromaticDracula

Can’t complain with free but I partook in one of these free things one year and from an OCD standpoint, it made me upset having all those “junk” games in my purchase history.
More than half the games I got for free were …. Ahem… literal CRAP. Some, playable. Most, best left in the digital black abyss.

Needless to say, I’m trying to keep my account/download/transaction history “clean” so I won’t be doing this again personally.

Re: Sega Plans To Revive Even "More" Legacy Franchises

ChromaticDracula

@KingMike TIL there was a Shinobi for Saturn! I never owned a Saturn even though I used to love playing the demo system at the local store when it was there. Never knew this existed…
I just watched some gameplay footage and it appears to me to be a step back from 3. It looks slower paced and I really don’t dig that Mortal Kombat style character style. I get what they were probably trying to do to showcase the system’s power but still…
Thankfully the new one looks at least a bit quicker and more ninja-like.

Re: Best Pokémon-Likes On Nintendo Switch - Games To Play After You've Finished Pokémon

ChromaticDracula

I haven’t played most of the ones listed here but Cassette Beasts is one that really freshens things up.
The battle system (fire melts plastic and makes poison, wind attacks blow fire out, wind attacks uproot grass types, etc.), and it being so open (multiple quest lines to work on at one time), ability to reassign and have more than 4 moves, fusions, to name a few key points, have really made this my number one Pokémon-replacer.
I don’t hate Pokémon but it’s grown sooo stale and it’s always two steps forward, one step back or two steps forward three steps back. Cassette Beasts feels familiar but is also fresh at the same time and has carved out its own space. I sunk a ton of hours in already and I hope they make more games in the series! The foundation is too good not to continue or build upon it.

Re: Jet Force Gemini's Widescreen Mode Reportedly "Broken" On Switch

ChromaticDracula

Honestly I don’t see what the big deal is. I dunno.
Can’t wait to play it in the US though, that’s for sure!

Nintendo, give me a reason to stow away my N64 once and for all: we still need both Castlevanias, shadows of the empire, San Francisco rush 2, beetle adventure racing, mystical ninja starring goemon, bomberman 64, and mischief makers. EDIT: including resident evil 2 (yes I’d love to play this on my N64 again, Capcom!) perfect dark, and Star Wars rogue squadron.
Am I missing any? Maybe one or two…
Once we have the above I will happily disconnect my N64 and store it away, replacing it with NSO.
