Nothing else matters this week: the other games, my well-being, my job, my safety, my wife, my dog, my family and friends, my mortgage payment… nothing. There is only one thing and that’s Paper Mario. LEETTSSS GOOOOOOOOOO
@Serpenterror This list is awesome! I don't think I realized there were so many other studios behind some of these ports. Like, for example, I thought CDPR ported Witcher 3 to Switch. OK, I'm honestly motivated to edit my comment above because some of these studios deserve more credit. Thanks for the enlightening!
2 standout companies that have done incredible porting jobs are Night Dive (my favorite) and Panic Button. Can’t say I’ve heard of Shiver but I also haven’t played Mortal Kombat or Hogwarts so… there’s that.
I love the way Nintendo handles things like this, setting an example and all. So graceful.
@YoshiAngemon OVER MY DEAD BODY!! You’ll have to pry the game carts out of my cold dead hands. ….side note, I do wonder how many game carts I could hold in one angry hulking fist…
I thought dead by daylight was like… sort of a dead game at this point. I tried it and it was janky as hell, coupled with the fact I hate online games, it was an instant uninstall. It feels akin to someone making a new playable character for the first Ghost Recon on PC. Like… ok cool but why? Vampire Survivors collab made sense and so did that other side-scrolling rogue game collab but this feels weird. I just hope this is leading to something like building hype for Castlevania 64 on NSO or their own volume 3 collection with it or something.
Unbelievable. Just make games. Why are you trying to profit off every pixel? It’s fine if done tastefully but it’s definitely sounding like it’ll be full-blown speed bump/eye-wall ads. Watch them do a thing like having you have to speak a phrase into your controller’s microphone to get past the ad and continue to acknowledge that you watched it. Wouldn’t surprise me.
@Thomystic I feel like Nintendo having a twitter account at this point is more like a placeholder. If Nintendo themselves didn’t claim (and hold) it, someone else would and start posting random stuff. I think Nintendo actively still uses the account too but I was thinking they can never actually back out now because wouldn’t that maybe free the account up for grabs, if even after Z amount of years?
YES PLEASE. NOW PLEASE BRING BACK MIIVERSE!! I don’t speak for everyone but I’ve long deleted my Twitter account once it was announced that Musk was taking over and I have no regrets. I won’t support that laundry airing nonsense and what that wasteland has become since. Same with Facebook and them with the trying to be discrete but failing miserably at spying on me crap. I know most places have my data anyway by now but I try to limit what I can and take back a little control at least. Miiverse was by gamers, for gamers, and well thought out and fun. I like that kind of environment. Bring that back please.
@Dualmask although I know what you mean, I think the inclusion of rewind and save states do go a long way. I can play these on my Analogue Pocket but the Genesis core lacks save states and rewind so there goes that. Being able to play these officially and with those features is pretty good. I can already picture what the up-res’d graphics would look like or what style they’d have likely picked and it makes me want to puke. (likely heavy mobile game-style, specifically that style that they used in the Fire Emblem mobile mobile game.) yuck.
Ugh the fast paced stuff is hard to digest. I am not a PC gamer and I was really looking forward to this but the twitchy controls seem tough to come to terms with. The large levels seem kind of cool to be honest, kind of like Turok 2 which admittedly are also quite too large sometimes but at least you have a map… I was really looking forward to this but I might have to pass on it now.
@sanderev I’m sort of in the same boat… I love having a physical collection especially for the “rare” games like ones from Nintendo or limited run, etc., but it’s really hard to stick to physical only when you can often get digital variants for so cheap on sale.
To make matters worse, Nintendo first-party games can often be found cheaper buying used (eBay) and are more expensive on the eshop or digitally. Most third-party games are more expensive physically but cheaper digital when there is a sale. It’s hard not to have a fractured collection and you sometimes just can’t pass up a good deal when there’s a digital sale.
I heart’d the comments from both @Anti-Matter @sanderev which both offer conflicting perspectives around going physical/digital. What does that say about me? I’m just excited to see people excited about these games!! #justgimmethegame #ohyeahillbebuyingbothofthesephysical
Haven’t played Puzzmix but the Gunvolt games are really impressive and well-made. Between Gunvolt and Blaster Master, Inti is one of my favorite game-related companies.
Why you gotta go and get everyone worked up, NL?! Personally, I don’t give a rat’s patoot. 60 is nice but I’ll mostly always prefer the 30 range as that is more cinematic, especially for cutscenes.
Guys where is Astebros or Lords of Exile on this list?! Astebros runs on original hardware and Lords of Exile is like Castlevania (although not nearly as polished but deserves mention!)
That first video, I was thinking about doing the exact thing. Not filming it but just firing up Mario Kart and playing online as I barrel head-first into the Nintendo server shut down black abyss. That video actually brought a tear to my eye. The 3DS is still my favorite system ever (next to N64) for so many reasons. Perfectly designed and just so pocketable and portable. Bring back streetpass (and the railroad)!
Although not a fan of this “let’s try again; here’s a better second version of the game at full price!” practice, this is one really good game. I’m biting 100% but it feels wrong. It should be a DLC for folks who bought, and supported, Atlas the first time. It really irks me when I think about it.
This game’s soundtrack alone is worth it though. Its just such a memorable and brutally difficult game 😍
@PinderSchloss ”WORST” performance on Switch? Do you have some kind of black market hot-rodded Nontindeo Slitch? Not counting muddiness, it runs great on my launch Switch. That being said, might get this on PS5 this go round just to experience the full potential and “something different”
It seems like the game is packed with really cool dialogue during gameplay which I am a fan of. Not a fan of tutorials blazing during gameplay in some games but dialogue exchanges during gameplay is a really cool flair for games and is always a +.
EDIT: Not 100% certain but it does seem like the trailer above is Switch-specific. And it looks great… just finally preordered the physical copy 😍
@andyg1412 only reason is because I haven’t found any details for a physical preorder. No Amazon anyway… I haven’t found any news sources with physical preorder details
I love 2D Mario but I’ll go ahead and say I’d prefer an Odyssey 2 or some other SM64-like. It’ll be hard to pull off though without being too gimmicky.
Why are they being so secretive about the digital version of this game?
There really better be an upgrade path for those who “invested” in the first “base” release.
Something tells me there will not be. I love Atlus but this is really irking me.
If companies handled their backlogs better I feel like emulation wouldn’t be such a hot topic but software updates and server shutdowns literally decimate years of history in a single flip of a switch. We’ve all become digital hoarders.
First off, I love love love this game. Next to Star Fox 64, this had to be my most played game on N64. I loved the branching paths and the inclusion of the OG game on it but with additional armor options and stuff… It’s just so good and I hope it comes to Switch at some point. I never saw the EU version of the cover until today and although I love it (those colors! 😍 ) I still gotta stick with the US one. It’s just intriguing and definitely nostalgic.
@AlienigenX are you me? I’m wondering if I should go full on brand new experience with PS5 or have the portable option with Switch. I had no gripes with performance on Switch whatsoever but I could tell it would really shine with enhanced graphics. …or do I stick with having the portable option.
Same day as Elden Ring DLC… yowza… goodbye, wallet. Better start saving now! This game is fantastic, albeit brutally difficult at times, so I can’t wait to get my buttocks handed to me again by even more types of demons! Tempted to buy this one on PS though just to experience it with better performance… 🤔
It's Castlevania 64 and Castlevania: Legacy of Darkness all over again! AND I'M HERE FOR IT!! Definitely buying this! Hopefully there's an improvement to the performance also — the original is completely playable and nowhere near the mess that is Pokémon Scarlet/Violet but it'd be cool for a boost in performance to smooth it over.
Hoping for R-Type Command, Metal Slug Tactics, Rare Replay (please?), Earthion, Ex-Zodiac, that “Castlevania 3D collection” that @Zuljaras mentioned above…
Would love Resident Evil 2 and 3 PS1 ports, and while we’re at it, Parasite Eve ports!!
….To name a few that I’m hoping to see. 😁
@CJD87 YES PLEASE, MORE STAR FOX. Would love to jump back into Zero but with “improved” controls. The game was beautiful and it was a shame having to shrink down to the turret view to aim at stuff. It really took away from the games environments having to shift your focus away from all the lively, vibrant worlds. Or just a new one or even a remastered version of SF64 with hi-def graphics or something. I love SF64 so much… @ear_wig I would be on that Nahobino amiibo like white on rice. I hadn’t even considered that possibility and now I really want it.
Can I slip my steelbook’s slipcase over this new one to make a Shin Megami Tensei V Vengeance megazord? Anyone else remember that when everyone was slipping their SMTV slipcase over other switch games? Lol
I guess that means there will probably be some kind of a story involved with fluff and this and that. I just hope there’s some kind of classic arcade mode we can jump right into versus having to sit through bland and shallow cutscenes and story beats. In any case this is exciting and I’m glad Sega is finally reviving some things!
@Axecon allegedly there is a rumor of a direct the end of this week. I guess to coincide in some way with that Microsoft/Xbox announcement. If the direct is not announced tomorrow then all bets are off I guess.
