@Ulysses lol oh boy well now I feel like I have to watch episode 1 haha Seriously though, good to know about the anime being good. Lots of positive comments in here too so I guess I’ll be checking this out then.
Never watched the series but I think someone on this site had what I think is the goblin slayer in the armor with the red eye as their avatar. Always thought that looked cool and this game does too. I see this is pixel art, turn based strategy and now I'm all but sold. This is now on my calendar!
There are a few titles on here that I am utterly shocked haven’t made the jump to Switch, but one in particular, Samus Returns, seems like it would do extremely well. They’d be smart to release that or the other Primes before Prime 4 if only to simply build hype.
For as much as I love, and loved, MGS, Death Stranding has really come full center for me. It’s an incredible game and story that I can’t wait to see fleshed out more.
What I’m saying is that I’ve moved on and so has Kojima. Yes, MGS is beloved and cherished but I would much rather Kojima keep pushing boundaries and making new things rather than revisiting and rehashing. He’s one of the only creators making actual new content and innovating. Revisiting MGS at this point is like that sad weird 30-something going back to their high school after they graduated and telling kids “I was amazing back in the day!”
I love the M&L art over the years. It’s honestly the perfect shade of red and green for the brothers and it is so tasty and pleasing to the eye.
The M&L games seem at home on 3DS, likely biased because that’s where I’ve played most of them, and this art looks right on the money. It would be soooo cool if Nintendo put this on a white Switch case instead of the standard clear.
This is awesome!!
This game wreaks of GameCube/PS2 but I’ve played the “port” on PS4/5 over the years and it’s still fun. Definitely clunky and maybe a tad obtuse but it’s so fun once you get your grips with the quirks. I’ll be buying this knowing there are some improvements, even if they’re slight, and deleting that port off the competitor’s console
I chose “it’s fine” but I’m also in the “it should be less” group because let’s face it… I’m buying it either way. It’ll look nice next to Tropical Freeze in my collection (which was also a port and was also $60-this is nothing new)
Wild…. I’m seeing this as Mario 64 being reduced from being played with 13 buttons and an analog stick on N64, down to 10 buttons and a touch screen on DS, down to 8 buttons on GBA.
What’s next, controlling Mario with 1 button: your mind? STOP IT, stop it right now, that’s a terrible idea.
I don’t have any issues with the NSO FPS games and that’s probably because I grew up with them. I only wish Nintendo would implement a dual stick control option because I found these to be mostly unplayable without the N64 controller. let’s get real here, I’m not about to go portable and bring my N64 controller with me so I can play in tabletop mode.
Controller stuff aside, I’ve had no issues with anything else really. Plays just like I remember and that’s pretty great. Nintendo: if you’re going to add save states as a modern feature, follow through and please also add modern dual stick controls options.
All the double-dipping and full price for DLC stuff aside, the actual game is incredible. I was really into the original but this new version is just so much more enjoyable.
They’re different price points of course but how did ya’ll feel when you got Pokémon Red/Blue back in the day only for them to release Yellow one year later? This Vengeance upgrade at least released a few years after. The jump from red/blue to yellow was ~1 year
Not to be that person but I’ve been playing it and I haven’t had any personal issues with it. Like, it plays like I remember but it looks nice and crisp and all that. I really don’t see why this person is saying it’s unplayable. I’m playing it every night..? Controls are a little tough (with aiming, because of the analog stick, in particular) but I’ve been having a blast.
Anyway, hope this stuff gets patched so the hecklers can finally get some sleep.
I've been checking all day for Turok and Perfect Dark and I JUST REALIZED it's a whole other new app I have to download. Yes it says it above but I think I was not taking it at face value that I have to go and download a whole separate thing. My OCD is screaming that this is not in the existing app. Anyway, look out, Carrington! MOMMA'S HOME!!
...Came here to start eyeballing if I want to go all in on that Zelda Switch lite that was just announced... 👀
I can never give up TV gaming but having a second, more portable system, would be nice. I never take my OG switch out of the house, it's just not "portable" to me. But a Lite is... and it's tempting...
I LOVE Turok but it's so strange they released it while there is arguably a better version of it already available Switch. And uh.. one where you can BUY it and not have to sub to play it. It even has an "original graphics" mode if I remember correctly.
Oh well, not appreciative, I can;t wait to play it, but it's just weird.
if there was a "bucket list" for my games, this would be it. I've been wanting this to happen in the worst way but always thought it would never happen because of the exclusivity and stuff. If this happens I'll purchase it ASAP. It looks phenomenal and doesn't deserve to be locked behind a subscription service.
Hands down there should’ve been an upgrade option for folks. Like, how can you slap your “early adopters” in the face like that?
However, I don’t think it’s fair to deduct points for that reason because the game itself is insanely solid. I’ve played a ton of the entries in this series and this one is by far my favorite ever. Being able to run around and see the enemies (no random encounters ❤️) is great. I love love love the main character and everything is so fleshed out and it runs great on Switch. I wonder if we’ll ever get 4 or 4 apocalypse remastered or anything…
Never have I seen the Japan cover until this article. That’s wild… “violence killer” Due to the M rating, I had a hard enough time begging my parents for Turok 2 back when it came on N64. If it had been named violence killer, forget it.
HOLY MOLY! This is like a Tunic demake, in a way, sort of kind of. It's like a Zelda game, pretending to be a Tunic demake, pretending to be Zelda. I'm buying this right now! It would've flown right under my radar otherwise.
Well, folks, if you were following along (and I have no doubt you were not) with my posts, I've decided to just get this again on Switch. It does not run worse, it packs in all new content, and most importantly,. I can play this handheld when wifey is using the TV, watching interview with a vampire and house of dragons. I so want to experience this game with the crispy PS5 graphics but not being able to play handheld is a killer for me. I've restored my preorder and I'm excited for Friday! Thanks for the review, @SwitchVogel!
This looks like it could've been a whole other separate download. I think it looks really good! I'll give this a go for sure! Ive been itching to play this again from the beginning, it's a really great experience and definitely scratches the symphony of the night itch. Still, I want a proper symphony of the night release on Switch!
I'm just going to pass on this one. I have my 3DS copy and watching this video reminded me of the little quirks of the second one that I don't feel like going through again. It's a great game through and through but I think I like 1 and 3 the best. The mission structure just isn't something that I look forward to revisiting. Perhaps on sale though... !
@whitespy12 oh wow I just watched some power drift footage and yep… that’s definitely where Slipstream got it from! I never played that one back in the day so I had no idea 😬
It looks like it copied Slipstream’s style. (Which I learned looks to be copied from SEGA Power Drift [thanks, @whitespy12!]) That style drifting where the camera angle tilts, etc.
It does look cool though but I think I’ll pass. I’m more into the Top Gear Pocket 2/Top Gear Rally (GBA) style. I love those games…
@PinderSchloss This is exactly why I cancelled my preorder altogether. I will just decide what version to get after I read specifically about the performance on Switch.
I loved the game and I have no issues with it on Switch but I'm looking to freshen things up in my own way by playing it in a different form, whether that be improved performance on Switch or the very graphically tasty PS5 version. I'm 99% sure I'm getting it on Switch but I just hope it doesn't run worse than the original. I just hope I can still snag a launch copy with the steelbook if I wait a day or two after release.
Silent Hill 2, R-Type Tactics, and this, Metal Slug Tactics, are my most anticipated games at the moment. I’m so happy we finally have a release window or whatever. It’s been dead silent as the article mentioned and this is just great news!
@Ralizah haha I knoowww... My friend has been plugging that thing like crazy and it's very tempting. On paper, Steamdeck is a no-brainer for me but I also want to wait and see what Nintendo has up their sleeves this next generation first before I drop more money on another console.
This release has been rollercoaster ride: I bought the OG on Switch back when it first came out and I absolutely love it.
I of course was shocked when this new version was announced and I was like, "Ok.. this is weird that it's not DLC but I preordered the game so here I goooooo" and preordered on Switch.
I've since cancelled my Switch preorder and now have it preordered on PS5. I did that because I don't know if the Switch version will run any better and also because I want to experience the game in a different way with those new crispy tasty graphics.
Now I'm second guessing again because I really want this on Switch so I have handheld play options. I don't want PS Portal. I think I'm going to cancel a go the Switch route again.
This all comes back to Atlus not being clear and up front about stuff, specifically with the Switch version. As long as the new Switch version doesn't run worse than the original, I'll be happy. I'd love some Switch GAMEPLAY footage... I just don't want them pulling some crap like "the first half of the game is on the cart and the rest requires a download" or the game somehow runs choppier or something...
We have friends visiting this long weekend and the game got delivered Saturday. It’s staring at me waiting to be played and I can’t wait to start it. Should be able to finally start it tonight or tomorrow at the earliest. Can’t say what I’d give it at this point but I’m expecting a 9 or 10. I’ve never played this entry either so it’s all going to be fresh!
Nothing else matters this week: the other games, my well-being, my job, my safety, my wife, my dog, my family and friends, my mortgage payment… nothing. There is only one thing and that’s Paper Mario. LEETTSSS GOOOOOOOOOO
@Serpenterror This list is awesome! I don't think I realized there were so many other studios behind some of these ports. Like, for example, I thought CDPR ported Witcher 3 to Switch. OK, I'm honestly motivated to edit my comment above because some of these studios deserve more credit. Thanks for the enlightening!
2 standout companies that have done incredible porting jobs are Night Dive (my favorite) and Panic Button. Can’t say I’ve heard of Shiver but I also haven’t played Mortal Kombat or Hogwarts so… there’s that.
I love the way Nintendo handles things like this, setting an example and all. So graceful.
@YoshiAngemon OVER MY DEAD BODY!! You’ll have to pry the game carts out of my cold dead hands. ….side note, I do wonder how many game carts I could hold in one angry hulking fist…
I thought dead by daylight was like… sort of a dead game at this point. I tried it and it was janky as hell, coupled with the fact I hate online games, it was an instant uninstall. It feels akin to someone making a new playable character for the first Ghost Recon on PC. Like… ok cool but why? Vampire Survivors collab made sense and so did that other side-scrolling rogue game collab but this feels weird. I just hope this is leading to something like building hype for Castlevania 64 on NSO or their own volume 3 collection with it or something.
Unbelievable. Just make games. Why are you trying to profit off every pixel? It’s fine if done tastefully but it’s definitely sounding like it’ll be full-blown speed bump/eye-wall ads. Watch them do a thing like having you have to speak a phrase into your controller’s microphone to get past the ad and continue to acknowledge that you watched it. Wouldn’t surprise me.
@Thomystic I feel like Nintendo having a twitter account at this point is more like a placeholder. If Nintendo themselves didn’t claim (and hold) it, someone else would and start posting random stuff. I think Nintendo actively still uses the account too but I was thinking they can never actually back out now because wouldn’t that maybe free the account up for grabs, if even after Z amount of years?
YES PLEASE. NOW PLEASE BRING BACK MIIVERSE!! I don’t speak for everyone but I’ve long deleted my Twitter account once it was announced that Musk was taking over and I have no regrets. I won’t support that laundry airing nonsense and what that wasteland has become since. Same with Facebook and them with the trying to be discrete but failing miserably at spying on me crap. I know most places have my data anyway by now but I try to limit what I can and take back a little control at least. Miiverse was by gamers, for gamers, and well thought out and fun. I like that kind of environment. Bring that back please.
@Dualmask although I know what you mean, I think the inclusion of rewind and save states do go a long way. I can play these on my Analogue Pocket but the Genesis core lacks save states and rewind so there goes that. Being able to play these officially and with those features is pretty good. I can already picture what the up-res’d graphics would look like or what style they’d have likely picked and it makes me want to puke. (likely heavy mobile game-style, specifically that style that they used in the Fire Emblem mobile mobile game.) yuck.
Ugh the fast paced stuff is hard to digest. I am not a PC gamer and I was really looking forward to this but the twitchy controls seem tough to come to terms with. The large levels seem kind of cool to be honest, kind of like Turok 2 which admittedly are also quite too large sometimes but at least you have a map… I was really looking forward to this but I might have to pass on it now.
@sanderev I’m sort of in the same boat… I love having a physical collection especially for the “rare” games like ones from Nintendo or limited run, etc., but it’s really hard to stick to physical only when you can often get digital variants for so cheap on sale.
To make matters worse, Nintendo first-party games can often be found cheaper buying used (eBay) and are more expensive on the eshop or digitally. Most third-party games are more expensive physically but cheaper digital when there is a sale. It’s hard not to have a fractured collection and you sometimes just can’t pass up a good deal when there’s a digital sale.
I heart’d the comments from both @Anti-Matter @sanderev which both offer conflicting perspectives around going physical/digital. What does that say about me? I’m just excited to see people excited about these games!! #justgimmethegame #ohyeahillbebuyingbothofthesephysical

Can’t spell bad without ad.
Re: Nintendo World Championships: Famicom Special Edition Includes NSO Controllers
@ecco6t9 get on over to Best Buy! I just preordered mine (11am Italy time / 5am US east coast time)
Re: Nintendo Discontinuing 'X' Integration On Switch Next Month
@Thomystic I feel like Nintendo having a twitter account at this point is more like a placeholder. If Nintendo themselves didn’t claim (and hold) it, someone else would and start posting random stuff. I think Nintendo actively still uses the account too but I was thinking they can never actually back out now because wouldn’t that maybe free the account up for grabs, if even after Z amount of years?
Re: Nintendo Discontinuing 'X' Integration On Switch Next Month
Re: Rocket Knight Adventures: Re-Sparked Crashes Onto Switch In June
@Dualmask although I know what you mean, I think the inclusion of rewind and save states do go a long way.
I can play these on my Analogue Pocket but the Genesis core lacks save states and rewind so there goes that. Being able to play these officially and with those features is pretty good. I can already picture what the up-res’d graphics would look like or what style they’d have likely picked and it makes me want to puke.
(likely heavy mobile game-style, specifically that style that they used in the Fire Emblem mobile mobile game.) yuck.
Re: Rocket Knight Adventures: Re-Sparked Crashes Onto Switch In June
@Serpenterror oh what I’d do even just for Goemon 64 (Mystical Ninja 64). 😫
It’s so damn good. We’ve got to get a Goemon collection at some point though, right?!
Re: Review: Wrath: Aeon Of Ruin (Switch) - Impressive Quake-Like FPS Is A Bad Fit On Consoles
Ugh the fast paced stuff is hard to digest. I am not a PC gamer and I was really looking forward to this but the twitchy controls seem tough to come to terms with. The large levels seem kind of cool to be honest, kind of like Turok 2 which admittedly are also quite too large sometimes but at least you have a map…
I was really looking forward to this but I might have to pass on it now.
Re: Paper Mario: TTYD And Luigi's Mansion 2 HD Estimated Switch File Sizes Revealed
Re: Paper Mario: TTYD And Luigi's Mansion 2 HD Estimated Switch File Sizes Revealed
I heart’d the comments from both @Anti-Matter @sanderev which both offer conflicting perspectives around going physical/digital.
What does that say about me? I’m just excited to see people excited about these games!!
