Leaked or not, it’s not hard to deduce that a new Zelda — a very well known one at that — would release to hype up the movie coming out. Same can be said with Fox in the Mario movie: might as well strike while the iron is hot and what a better time to showcase a new game with that probably new character for a lot of kids.
I still haven’t bought a Switch 2 but let me be 100% clear: I will be there day one for both a new Star Fox and Ocarina remake. 2 of my most favorite beloved franchises right there.
I really can’t believe that the trash bag Pokémon and the ice cream Pokémon weren’t on this list. 🤔 shocked, actually…. I’d have put money down that those two at least would’ve made a least liked list.
Some of these deigns are really cool on this list but seeing some of them also reminds me of why I fell off the bandwagon after Gen 2. Some of them are just … eh, uninspired. Like, making more ‘mon for the sake of making more ‘mon. That never really rubbed me in a good way.
Like a lot are saying, I haven’t bought one yet because it’s expensive for a system that doesn’t have any must-have’s yet. I’m sure we’re getting some bangers (come on, it’s Nintendo after all!) sometime soon and at that point I’ll re-assess. I have a gut feeling an Ocarina of Time remake is coming to coincide with the movie and that’s going to be an insta-buy/system seller for me.
For now, I’m happy cart hunting and collecting up all my old GBA/N64 games with manuals. No internet required to download updates or this and that. Pop in the cart and go to town! Going to be hard to convince me I should go back to modern gaming with this groove I’m in. At the end of the day, I just want to sit down and play my games. Ok, I’ve trailed off here. Bye, fam.
I played and beat this on Switch 1. It is obviously the inferior version when comparing graphics/framerate with the PlayStation version but it was totally playable and enjoyable on Switch. It felt at home given that Zelda was clearly an inspiration. It is one of the best games I’ve played maybe ever, for numerous reasons and frankly, enjoyed it more than a lot of Zelda games. It’s DEEP.
That being said, I cannot wait to give this another go when I finally get a switch 2. It’ll be quite the upgrade and should be cool seeing all those missed graphical details I probably missed on the switch version!
We still need a way to block entire publishers/devs or just certain games. If I didn’t buy “Game X” last time, I’m not buying it this time. If I don’t like any of the games from “Dev Y”, let me block them. I want entire swaths of games disappeared sometimes!
The original 151 are and always will be my favorite. They actually made sense and were cool, mystical, and clever designs based on name play and pop culture. Even Gen 2 was pretty neat. After that, it gets a little foggy and to me, uninspired. (An ice cream cone? A bag of garbage?) In any case, I’m agreeing with you about that one big thing: I usually assemble the same team based around my tried and true past favorites, regardless of which new ones pop up in the new games. I’m not saying to start anew but I would like to see a “reboot” in mechanics and design. I’ve said this before but I’ll say it again: Cassette Beasts is an INCREDIBLE game. Fire attacks on plastic enemies makes poison, I think fire attacks on metal enemies makes them melt and changes their properties too… You can fuse beasts and make new ones like in Shin Megami Tensei… you can learn more than 4 moves… That’s the kind of stuff I want to see in Pokémon. I want the game to evolve as much as the monsters!
This sounds incredible!! I love the premise and all you’ve written about it (save for the latter-mentioned frustrations.)
Right on the top of the wishlist this goes. Need to check price and I’m still knee deep in my N64 library and bouncing between Fire Emblem GBA and Link to the Past GBA.
Not to be a downer but this is why I’ve abandoned the service and started buying carts. Look, I 100% acknowledge this service is undoubtedly one of the best deals in gaming, but it’s always just too little, too late. Also, that grating having to check each NSO app in every week is annoying as hell. I got burned not once but twice because I took my switch lite with me on a plane and because I didn’t check EACH APP IN SEPARATELY BEFOREHAND, I couldn’t play some of the games I wanted to play on the flight. No internet = no check in = no games. If you don’t play it regularly it’s extremely time consuming opening each beforehand and having to sit through each one updating serially. I really wish they’d just require one check in and have that register across each NSO app. So here I am collecting old carts again and frankly I’m having tons of fun with that even though I’m ultimately spending more money.
All that being said, these are some great games this release! No experience with the virtual boy games but I’m sure they are a lot of fun.
I’m so torn on this — AND IT SEEMS THE COMMUNITY IS AS WELL! 50-50 split!
The JP cover captures the silliness of the game for sure but the EN/EU version is just a stone-cold classic and unmistaken at any distance. Almost like you know it’s going to be good just looking at the colors from afar, not even reading the text. I like both… perhaps I like the JP version more as a work of art/poster: colorful, fun, etc. Whereas the EN/EU version just works as a game cover art: Some mystery, consistency with other titles, etc. For that, I voted EN/EU.
I know I’ll cave and buy firered at some point soonish. Right now though, I’m head over heels into my N64 library! Nothing will pull me away! You hear me…?! NOTHING!
@Yomerodes to each their own I guess… a bonkers premise is what I look for a lot; actual different ideas and not just pure iterations. Will have to watch some videos of gameplay vs. stills to get a better feel for it I guess. But I think it looks and sounds really cool.
First I’m hearing of it, but I also: didn’t watch the direct, don’t have a switch 2, but do visit this site every day multiple times. Maybe it’s the title of the game? I’d have glossed over it personally, it sounds like potential shovelware. Proving the point that new — potentially actually good — games have an exposure problem in the sea of shovelware. Looking at this game now though, I think it looks fantastic! I’d buy it!
Ohhhh I am certainly importing this one. Ideally it would be in English and properly translated but this is one I can’t miss. Side note, I sooooo wish Mystical Ninja 64 was included! I want to play it so I can blast the Impact theme song through my bass heavy soundbar 😂
@TYRANACLES hey thank you for the notice! This is really cool news, but what a bummer about Stimpy’s Invention. Likely going to get this R&S collection! Thank you again!
Why release Pikmin 2 when it’s already available on Switch??? Ok, if they’re going to do that, and have Pikmin 2 take up an entire slot, release a 3rd game that is not available elsewhere. This is Turok 2 all over again. It’s just stupid how we usually get games in pairs, and one of the only 2 is already available in an arguably better form. Cool news for people that don’t own the switch version but really crappy for us diehards that already do.
@FredsBodyDouble you can buy the N64 version or the PC version on Darren Mitchell’s own Bandcamp page! First game is also on there. You better believe I already have them purchased too! Just go to Bandcamp.com and search Turok; it’ll say by Darren Mitchell as the artist. Your purchase directly supports him!
Oh man this is almost my dream controller. I JUST ordered a Backbone about 2 days ago so I can play Death Stranding on iOS on the go. If this were available I may have gone for this instead!
This rocks! I will be getting this for a few reasons. Some are: the overworld in the screenshots reminds me of the Ice King Adventure Time 3DS game — which was inspired by Zelda II. That game was underrated (or was it, I don’t know, I just know I loved it.) The color palette also reminds me of The Simpsons: Bart vs Space Mutants game on Genesis. Too much nostalgia to ignore here!
I loved reading this, I love reading/hearing other’s gaming traditions. They should just rename Christmas Day to Video Game Day haha. (I know that wouldn’t go over well!) I remember getting Turok 2, Rogue Squadron, and the gold Ocarina of time cart in 1998. The next year, in 1999, I was hoping for Resident Evil 2 but didn’t get it and I was upset. I ended up reluctantly playing Turok 2, the new game from the previous year, on Xmas day in 1999. Now, it’s my go to Xmas Eve and Day game because it just holds a lot of memories for me. Cassette Beasts is also now a big one from more recent times for me. It’s so cozy!
Played and beat the game on PS5 and it was very difficult since your character moves like a tank and many enemies move faster than you. It is one of those games though where you do progressively get stronger as you go on… Still, the additional difficulty is welcome! I want everyone to play and experience this game—IT’S A GEM!!!
My sister in law uses it as a tool like how it is discussed in this piece: she is an artist of sorts so when she has an idea, she prompts AI to conceptualize it and then goes full human hands on/AI-less to actually create it. I honestly don’t have an argument against that even though I intrinsically don’t fully support it. I think AI has its uses for certain things but I don’t like how it’s just the Wild West and how it’s being forced onto everything. I voted full-stop “conservative” up in the poll- I don’t want AI anywhere near me. It’s dumbing down humanity.
Mine is Cronos. The game is very difficult at times but it’s so rewarding and Kelly Burke’s voice acting is just so spot on. It’s such a cool universe and really leaves you with the feeling of wanting more out of it. Can’t wait to the eventual tv show/movie adaptation or even a sequel or prequel. Bloober really knocked it out of the park.
@RoboCube ugghh I cannot wait for Bomberman 64! Also really really really hoping for Castlevania 64 (Legacy of darkness ideally) in some form, whether that’s NSO or the next Konami Castlevania collection.
Rayman comes at the perfect time!! I recall playing it around the holidays way back then, pausing it to go to my aunt’s holiday gathering, etc. I have the 3DS version and it’s great but I can’t wait to play this properly on the TV again!!
I didn’t vote because I’m not a fan of FPS Metroid. I mean, I am, but I’m a massively more enthusiastic fan of the 2D variant/timeline. I really just enjoy the Dread style more and always have. I’m the same with Sonic games: 2D all the way.
Haven’t heard of ANY of these games! They sound like a collection of Nintendo Land (Wii U) games which without a doubt piques my interest. Still looking for that Donkey Kong’s Crash Course style game but expanded with more levels. Is that what Kosmo Spin is like?
This is one of my top 3 franchises and I buy each one in the series without question. Hands down, point to where I need to swipe my credit card, no words needed. But…. This time, with a massive backlog, without a switch 2, with prices of things being so high, and being absolutely enthralled with Cronos, I’m fine waiting for the eventual ~$10/20 price cut after the hype dies down. Normally I’d have this preordered and be deep in gameplay by now but, I just can’t spend the $70-$80 this time.
I’m upset Cronos isn’t on this list. Kelly Burke’s VA was stellar in it and so was Alan Turkington for that matter… I think the monotone voice acting was divisive but I absolutely love it. Anyway, that’s my Cronos rant.
@cylemmulo in the same boat here. I noticed this a few weeks ago when I saw the demo in my friend’s play history. I used the direct link to the eshop on that demo and it still didn’t show for me. Still not showing today. Where’s this demo?!
@SBandy1 it’s insane that they haven’t considered this for ya’ll plasma’ers and at least gave a toggle to turn those off. I hate even thinking about what you must feel every time you play these 😫
Honestly really looking forward to playing my NSO NES library tonight as we start to roll into the holiday tomorrow and the holiday season beyond. 😍 In a few weeks I’ll be doing my annual Link’s Awakening playthrough … such warm and cozy feelings right now.
))shocked pikachu face(( This is a wonderful update! It has a very “holiday” feel for me somehow. I know I’ll be booting these up and then probably pop back over to my yearly blaster master playthrough. That ice level music 🤌 Can’t believe Battletoads is on here! Rare really is on the table going forward!
I’m proven day in and day out that there is a line you cross on your way up the corporate chain where you just lose touch with the consumers or the fan base. Another exec who has completely lost touch, Jacob Novak.
HECK YES. This is one I’ve been waiting for, for •checks watch• A LONG TIME. Buying this one day one. I just hope I can finish Cronos The New Dawn before it releases because I don’t see myself being able to choose between the two.
Design is cool but I’m priced out of it. No way can I justify that cost. Hell, I’m priced out of Switch 2 altogether quite frankly. I’ll happily be putting my OG switch and ps5 through the paces for a few more years.
@Spider-Kev I agree 99%: base game was lacking a ton of the standard animal crossing stuff but what was there was impactful and fulfilling still. I feel like they jumped to release version “A” quickly during the pandemic knowing it would be a hit and that they could instead update it to version B and C slowly over time. I was a little sour myself but it’s a really a great game at its current state finally. All that being said, I loved new leaf the most. It was FULL of secrets and nooks and crannies on release. New horizons was par-baked on release but shouldn’t be ignored now as it’s about to reach its perfect final form.
Not an owner of a switch 2 yet but absolutely getting the upgrade pack for my switch 1. Currently switching my OG switch island (Crateria) over to my lite for primarily handheld on the go play and to get ready for the update. One thing I’m hoping is that the game boots much quicker on switch 2. This game takes FOR. EVER. to boot on a switch lite. 😫
Ya’ll come on, are we really sour the framerate in animal crossing isn’t 60fps? I’ve been looking for an excuse to play this again and I think I now have it. Can’t wait for this update! Will likely be starting a new file on my lite. Maybe I’ll utilize resetti on my OG day 1 island from 2020.

I’m proven day in and day out that there is a line you cross on your way up the corporate chain where you just lose touch with the consumers or the fan base.
Another exec who has completely lost touch, Jacob Novak.
Re: Nintendo Download: 13th November (North America)
Lots of chaos and choices but it’s all about 1 game for me: Demonschool
••calmly sips tea••
Re: "We Would Rather Cut Off Our Own Arms" - Demonschool Studio Necrosoft Lets You Know What It Thinks About Using AI
HECK YES. This is one I’ve been waiting for, for •checks watch• A LONG TIME. Buying this one day one. I just hope I can finish Cronos The New Dawn before it releases because I don’t see myself being able to choose between the two.
Re: Talking Point: What's The Best Firework Sequence In A Video Game?
Death Stranding 2! (Is that allowed since it’s not a Nintendo game? YET?)
Some of the most surreal, realistic, and crazy effects I’ve ever seen.
Re: Resident Evil Pro Controller Is Available To Pre-Order, But Its Price Is Terrifying
Design is cool but I’m priced out of it. No way can I justify that cost.
Hell, I’m priced out of Switch 2 altogether quite frankly. I’ll happily be putting my OG switch and ps5 through the paces for a few more years.
Re: Poll: So, Will You Be Getting Animal Crossing: New Horizons - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition?
Re: Poll: So, Will You Be Getting Animal Crossing: New Horizons - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition?
Not an owner of a switch 2 yet but absolutely getting the upgrade pack for my switch 1. Currently switching my OG switch island (Crateria) over to my lite for primarily handheld on the go play and to get ready for the update.
One thing I’m hoping is that the game boots much quicker on switch 2. This game takes FOR. EVER. to boot on a switch lite. 😫
Re: Animal Crossing: New Horizons Is Nintendo's Cheapest Switch 2 Edition Yet
@Nick2054 if I were to guess, you nailed the reason behind it.
Re: Animal Crossing: New Horizons Is Nintendo's Cheapest Switch 2 Edition Yet
Ya’ll come on, are we really sour the framerate in animal crossing isn’t 60fps?
I’ve been looking for an excuse to play this again and I think I now have it. Can’t wait for this update! Will likely be starting a new file on my lite. Maybe I’ll utilize resetti on my OG day 1 island from 2020.
