Re: "I Have No Words" - Silksong Fans Are Losing Their Minds Over One Bench

BongoBongo

The hype machine and FOMO gets a lot of people every time. You don’t need to play this game if it’s not your type of game. You don’t need the game to adapt to be something more convenient to you just because it’s popular. You don’t need to comment on the game’s design when you haven’t played it and have no idea of context.

Re: Talking Point: Is Hollow Knight: Silksong Too Difficult?

BongoBongo

@Slain It doesn’t matter if you don’t agree - the point is you can’t speak for everyone. If I, and others, think we lose out with difficulty options, then it isn’t a matter of your opinion.

“ You don't have to use an easy mode just because it's there.” I explained why this was not necessarily the case for me in my post.

Re: Talking Point: Is Hollow Knight: Silksong Too Difficult?

BongoBongo

@Slain “Answer me this: who loses out by adding difficulty options? Who?“

Well just one example - I would. Is that enough for you? There is a certain satisfaction to beating difficult games, in learning patterns, executing well, and yes, overcoming frustration. If there are difficulty modes then I would not get the same satisfaction because mostly I’d give in to the temptation after a while and lower the settings - the equivalent of throwing your controller against the wall. You could say, well don’t use them just because they are there, but it’s just because they are there that I would eventually use them.

For another example, see the comment above: “I don’t want difficulty settings because I would probably get frustrated and use them.” I get why people want difficulty modes but please also get why people don’t want them - it isn’t the case that you lose nothing at all by having them.

For me, I’d leave it to the devs to decide and not demand difficulty modes in or out from the sidelines.

Re: Poll: So, Have You Used Zelda Notes Yet?

BongoBongo

I like it - it’s been a great excuse to mop up the 400 or so missing koroks as well as a few hinoxes (hinoi?) and taluses (talui?)

I do wonder how much work from a dev perspective it would have been to embed it into the game - that would have been much preferable. How many man hours are we talking here?

Re: The Game Awards 2024: Date, Time - How And When To Watch

BongoBongo

I say it every year but these awards would actually be (slightly more) watchable if they hired a professional guest presenter. Geoff is the business side of things and has zero charisma or on stage presence. It’s like if the Oscars were presented by a Committee Chairman or the Emmys presented by the Treasurer.

Re: ICYMI: 'Nintendo Music' Has Spoiler Prevention, Here's How To Activate It

BongoBongo

@DiamondJim “the fuss” may have something to do with the following:

  • YouTube has ads and this is ad free.
  • You can play this in the background and download music unlike YouTube on phones.
  • Everything in one place easy to find, not involving searching through several versions of tracks which may get removed.
  • The tracks are uploaded by Nintendo not some random so the audio quality is reliable.
  • This also has playlists on certain themes curated by Nintendo which are interesting.

Maybe you could think of some more reasons if you thought harder about it.

Re: Round Up: The Reviews Are In For The Plucky Squire

BongoBongo

@Axecon Lorelei and the Laser Eyes has been the best indie I’ve played this year - hope it’s in the discussion for best Indie of the year with others come December!

I had higher hopes for Plucky Squire on the assumption this wasn’t geared so much towards being kid friendly (perhaps a bit naive given the artstyle)

Re: All Annapurna Interactive Staff Resign Following Failed Spin-Off Negotiations

BongoBongo

Lorelei and the Laser Eyes was soo good earlier this year - good that was released before this fiasco!

Best case scenario I can see from this point:

  • the staff who leave set up a new company together which uses their existing contacts and experience to continue the legacy of publishing strong indies
  • Annapurna gets its shirt together, hires some new staff and fulfils its existing contracts with indie devs (some of which presumably had some gems waiting in the wings)

Maybe optimistic to hope for two ongoing indie publishing houses after this (alongside the likes of Devolver) as could easily and sadly be the case that neither happens.

Re: Talking Point: Could Another Nintendo Series Take Over The 'Traditional' Zelda Template?

BongoBongo

Bit late to this discussion but just want to point out that evolution in a game series is necessary. Do you really want to play another version of LTTP again and again? Forever?

Ocarina of Time is my favourite game ever but I found Twilight Princess incredibly boring as it was just doing the same thing, but less well. Would the people here complaining about BOTW’s evolution rather have played a third version of that? Or even worse, a second version of Skyward Sword?

I can’t wait for this new game, it looks incredible from the small bits we have seen, but still way too early to say the extent to which there is evolution of gameplay.

Re: Review: Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney Trilogy (Switch) - A Fine Remaster With Some Of Capcom's Best Writing

BongoBongo

Dual Destinies has one of the worst cases in the whole series (the yokai one) but overall it’s the best game out of these three. The final 2 connected cases involving the space centre are the best outside the original trilogy for the main series.

Spirit of Justice is ok but it drags on way too long - especially the final case. And it makes no sense why Nahyuta is travelling to and fro between Khurain and the mainland to do case after case.

Re: Feature: Game Of The Year 2023 - Nintendo Life Staff Awards

BongoBongo

Didn’t really like the look of Fire Emblem Engage but picked it up in the recent sale and having a good time with it. The story is absolutely terrible with some annoying characters (story and characters are what I miss most of all from Three Houses rather the social sim side) but it’s still a good game with the classic fire emblem feel. Would just about make my top 5 Switch games for the year:

1. TOTK
2. Cocoon
3. SMBW
4. Dredge
5. Fire Emblem Engage

Re: Is Dave The Diver An Indie Game? The Game Awards' Host Weighs In

BongoBongo

You know an indie game when you see one. Not from a look at the graphics (pixel or otherwise) but from when you look at the developer’s corporate group and see that either it’s a small team working for themselves or it’s part of a billion dollar plus business and inherently therefore answerable to investors.

A few grey areas in between the two but Nexon is not in that grey area. This is a no brainer non-indie.
