In before the moaners complain about another OOT article (quick life tip to you guys - you don’t need to open or read things you aren’t interested in, or generally look out for things to get annoyed by)
Deku Tree is probably the best tutorial dungeon in the series - can do the whole thing in less than 10 mins if you know what you are doing but can learn all the main mechanics if you are inexperienced.
Been loving this whole week long series of articles NL chaps - thanks for giving me something to read about my favourite game every day!
1. Assuming we are not counting mini-bosses, I would say 6. I believe you need to complete at least Forest, Fire and Water temples before the Shadow temple
2. Hmmm not sure - but think there is a theory it was one of the Four Giants from Majora’s Mask
3. Well you start with 3 and so, ignoring pieces of heart, the 7th will be the first you get as Adult Link. So likely to be Saria (or technically it’s left behind by Phantom Ganon?)
I mean if the Oscars included a bunch of trailers and were presented by some business admin dude who liked the idea of being on stage you’d never take them seriously.
If Keighley wants these awards to grow then he should step aside and let someone with actual charisma host his baby.
Where can I watch it with a professional presenter who doesn’t make me cringe, who doesn’t have a how do we do fellow kids fashion sense, and who doesn’t have to reminded through his earpiece to do a plastic smile every 5 seconds?
Gorogoa, Short Hike and Downwell are no brainer purchases at that price
Cyber Shadow is another high recommendation from me - don’t really hear it mentioned enough. It was vastly superior to The Messenger in my experience. Might try Katana Zero from this sale for a similar vibe.
Just recently started a second play through which already feels so different from my first. Having such a blast. If some of this end game content could be available by the time I hit year 3 then that would be the icing on the cake!
Seems like the whole idea all along was to increase prices - by doing this outrageous model beforehand then backtracking, it seems like this updated model is pretty attractive (as could have been worse right)
@Coversnail this is the most important reason for me also. I tend to go for a mix of physical or digital depending on whatever is cheaper - usually physical is cheaper day 1, digital later when the sales kick in (but that can be the other way round too).
If we hit a pure digital future then I could see scummy practices like Starfield pay extra for first 5 days of release.
In the meantime, I am all in on this deal - £37 for day 1 release of a new Mario game is a steal.
I can’t help but feel that these shows would be more watchable if the cringey host with a try too hard fashion sense was replaced with an actual professional presenter
My number 1 tip is don’t neglect upgrading your shield stash - then make sure you always have as many shields as you carry (even if they are rubbish shields) - then fuse every rocket you see out in the wild to your shields so you have a constant large supply of jet packs!
Keighley really needs to let someone with actual charisma present these in a non-cringeworthy way. Someone who doesn’t need to be reminded to smile constantly. He presumably is quite talented on the organisation and business side - he doesn’t need to do both that and be the cool presenter.
It’s good to see some solid easy to implement suggestions for improvement in an article like this.
Interesting that you noted a colourblind mode here. I am colourblind but not had any issues with this game. Metroid Prime Remastered on the other hand had a colourblind mode but I still struggled even with the colour assist on.
I was confused that I had completely missed the sensor and hero mode in my play through but turns like you need to complete one of the four “regional phenomena” to unlock that. I’ve been putting off doing those to explore first but I might need to get just one out the way sooner rather than later.
Just saw this last night. Was thinking who the hell had moved in until I saw this picture hanging on the wall and then saw Zelda’s diary. Worth checking out the well next to the house too.
For those asking - this isn’t the UK blocking the merger of two US companies.
This is the UK saying that the merging of the UK operations of those two US companies would be anti-competitive to the UK market (specifically the gaming streaming market).
I haven’t read up enough to determine what work arounds they can do - ie could they just limit what is available via steaming in the UK? - but the reason this could tank the whole deal is that the sale price will be based around the economics of profit projections and synergies across global markets and that is now thrown off. Obviously it will definitely be tanked if EU regulators also don’t allow it as that becomes too huge an impact to the economics of the deal.
Based purely on gameplay alone (the most fundamental part of a GAME after all) - a solid 9/10.
Only interested in the single player mode so not concerned with lacking features on the multiplayer side.
Plot and graphics not too important to me. Price as well shouldn’t be a factor in score, rather it’s a factor in whether the purchase is worth it you (depending on your own definitions of value and affordability).
The gameplay is really satisfying from a strategy point of view. Early choices and positioning matter further down the line. It’s nice to see plans play out where a slight strategic advantage eventually snowballs into a significant difference in armaments.
I made it even snappier by turning all animations off, would like to be able to do it for the CO powers too!
Shout out to Cyber Shadow - that game was surprisingly tight and addictive. Plus a great soundtrack. More fun than The Messenger for me as a Ninja Gaiden throwback.
@Flipbot this is Shovel Knight Dig (not on 3DS) - a spin-off made with a different developer - not the incredible original main game with side campaigns known as Shovel Knight Treasure Trove (which is indeed a steal at its current sale price on 3DS as well as being available on Switch).
2011 and 2017 are two of the best years this century just considering the calibre of the honourable mentions.
Without the delays from the pandemic then possibly there could have been another incredible year if Elden Ring, Zelda and Starfield were all same year.
I also just got a 2 on that colourblindness test (luckily I already knew for 30 years I was colourblind). Didn’t know this was a problem with the original as hadn’t played it but I did notice and appreciate the colourblindness settings in the Remastered menu when messing around with other settings.
My most annoying colourblindness experience in video games was Sonic Mania (an otherwise fantastic game) where for some reason the second boss required a game of Puyo Puyo which is heavily colour reliant - I had to recruit assistance from by non video game playing girlfriend to call out colours!

Nice article!
For me it would be the area outside the Spirit Temple. It feels like the furthest place from your old treehouse home in Kokiri Forest.

I didn’t really enjoy this game - too dialogue heavy for me and wouldn’t exactly call it a zelda like. This DLC does seem intriguingly leftfield tho

Will check out the Demo on my Steamworld Deck.
