Re: Kowloon Nights Is Funding 23 New Games, Including Ones From Teams Behind Spiritfarer And Oxenfree

BongoBongo

This seems incredibly generous if not expecting any sort of control and it’s essentially a loan (they can still self publish also). These guys are essentially the Tom Nook of video games funding.

The other article mentions no timetable on recoupment ( ie it’s not necessarily the first X amount of revenue that goes to the funder) and flexible payment terms (wonder if this includes interest).

One of the funded games is called CODENAME SÜSSKARTOFFEL. Sounds like a mouthful!

Re: Soapbox: Retro Nintendo Games Cost Too Much, But Nostalgia Is Expensive

BongoBongo

I tried to flog some old Xbox 360 games recently (just because they were taking up space) but apparently they are not worth much more than a quid as everyone else wants to flog theirs too and nobody is trying to catch up or build a collection of those games.

It’s the extreme opposite from a supply and demand point of view for Nintendo games. Nobody wants to sell their childhood memories and so supply is low. Also demand is through the roof as lots of people want to get in on building out collections of generations they missed or have nostalgia for in a way that doesn’t happen on other levels. As time goes by, the amount of people who were too young for these games back in the day but now have money will natural increase.

Re: Animal Crossing Leads Switch Software Sales With 19.4 Million Copies Sold In The Last 9 Months

BongoBongo

@C-Olimar I was wondering that too. Mario + Rabbids will definitely be there (although its now published by Nintendo in Japan I believe) as will Minecraft

Among Us was over 3m sold I understand.

Xenoblade Chronicles will be there too. As will the train game (Momotaro Dentetsu) that has been selling well in Japan.

That leaves 4 more games so probably some of the older games still selling well (maybe via sales) such as XC2, Astral Chain, Octopath, MUA3

Re: Dead By Daylight Is Getting A Colourblind Mode Following Provocative Comments By One Of Its Designers

BongoBongo

It's not easy to work in colourblind modes later I would agree - but it can't be much extra work if from the outset you ensure that most colourblind people with red/green overlap can play your game. He is right that it is not a small number.

I am colourblind and I straight up can't play certain games (I had to get my girlfriend to play the puyo puyo boss fight in Sonic Mania for me). In general though I find sports kit clashes more annoying as it is just so easy to avoid - I can't watch certain games where a red team plays a green team (e.g. Wales v Ireland in the rugby).

Re: Nintendo Shares Colourful Graphic Of The "Great Indie Games" Released On Switch In 2020

BongoBongo

Just managed to get out of Hades on attempt number 26! Obviously enough has been said already about how great that game is.

Ori is obviously fantastic too.

My other 2 recomendations from this list are Spiritfarer (if you enjoy ACNH and/or Stardew Valley you will enjoy this) and Lonely Mountains Downhill (they actually managed to pull off a great combination between a zen mountain exploration game and a fast bmxing racing game)

The other two games I have played here are A Short Hike (fantastic but won't keep you occupied for long) and What The Golf (fun but the later puzzles ended up a little tedious for me).

Any others I have missed that I should try?

Re: Feature: Nintendo Life's Alternative Game Awards 2020

BongoBongo

@nessisonett it’s currently £1.09 without the use of gold points!

I haven’t really been able to get into Horace myself - the story seems good but I don’t really play games like that for the story. The platforming parts don’t seem like anything special and you have to sit through a lot of cut scenes to get to them.

Re: Feature: Nintendo Life's Switch Game Of The Year 2020

BongoBongo

My top 5 would be ACNH, Ori, Hades, Clubhouse Games and short Hike. Honourable mention to Lonely Mountains Downhill.

Tried Horace recently as it was only £1 but it just seemed to be a generic platformer with a vaguely interesting story - but I’m not really into games for their story so it was a bit tedious with all the cut scenes. Don’t understand the hype on that one (compared to say Hades where it’s completely justified).

Re: Nintendo Of America's President Doug Bowser Talks About Switch Joy-Con Issues

BongoBongo

@nessisonett I don’t think that is true. It is clearly a pre-planned and no doubt signed off comment but he does at least acknowledge there are issues with drift. If he really wanted he could have made it a condition of the interview that they would not ask about it and Polygon probably would have agreed. Plus he also hints that they are learning from the repair work they are doing and have plans to implement that learning - which is something you want to hear.

Politicians usually answer the question they want to respond to rather than the one asked so a bit unfair on Doug there.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (December 5th)

@Kilamanjaro discounting in the 3DS is so strange - managed to get OOT for about £10 digital recently as it is in the selects and they were doing a 50% off My Nintendo deal. Whereas MM is still £40 physical and digital.

Only got my 3DS this year to complement my switch and want to have a complete collection of the very best games so might have to bite the bullet. Have played both before on N64 so know they are both fantastic.

@Tyranexx I’m also playing Pushmo at the moment - just finished the Nintendo murals section! Only got a 3DS for the first time during the first lockdown earlier this year and picked up a few games. Pushmo is much more cleverly designed than it first appears - you feel like a genius when you finally crack one that you have been tinkering for a while. Love how it’s an Intelligent Systems game that they knocked out between Fire Emblems - that team is clearly talented. Will definitely pick up Crashmo next.
