A game like this is almost guaranteed to get a good metacritic score as you have to be the type of person to be able to get something out of this in order to progress far enough to be able to review it. Unlike say a more accessible game which will garner a wider range of views.

Both these games are in the top 5 metroidvanias on Switch - along with Hollow Knight, Steamworld Dig 2 and now Metroid Dread (I won't tell you my ordering though!)

There’s a house rule on this site that commenters should not post about current gen emulators or piracy - maybe the main news articles shouldn’t comment on it either!

There will always be piracy in gaming (and come on - the majority of people using these emulators are not dumping their own files let’s be real) - don’t think it needs a light shone on it though

@Cheez I was hoping for Captain Toad too. As this was the final character in a huge roster I thought it was going to be a left field Nintendo pick like Piranha Plant was for the first dlc.

This just feels like a bit of an anti-climax

The Metroid amiibo (not restocked) is one of the more unusual amiibos given the material is a bit softer.

There is also a very rare Samus amiibo that has two arm cannons (a factor defect version of the Samus amiibo above) which I think is the most expensive amiibo out there these days

I know you were not replying to anyone in particular but I never said Math was wrong - I merely corrected someone who said Maths was wrong.

He does say in the reddit comments that he got this many hours mostly by leaving it on overnight because "monkey brain release serotonin molecule when number go up "

@Trajan Maths isn't a Brit thing - Math is an Americanisation thing

(you can substitute a z for the s in Americanisation if it blows your mind that people spell words differently)

Should get a good chunk dedicated to new NSO offerings.

They say mainly focussed on games releasing this winter so there may be one or two things for next year (Maybe the rumoured DK game?) but expect the big winter games we already know about so just more info on those. There could be some smaller rereleases/remasters like the Advance Wars games I suppose.

Don't expect anything at this point for BOTW2.

@reporterdavid I really enjoyed it on an 11 island run. Very calm and relaxing. Not sure how much I will do further runs but it was less than a fiver so more than worth the money.

@Neckcrane - agreed - how is Spelunky 1/2 not on here? Maybe they cannibalised each other's sales a bit as interested people got one or the other (I picked up the 1st and probs the best game I have played this year as I am new to the series). Still would have thought it would have beaten the undercooked Baldo

Interesting article. I am colourblind myself so often think about accessibility in that respect. Occasionally you get puzzle games which are impossible so I avoid those - the problem is when they come up in unexpected places such as a puyo puyo boss fight in Sonic Mania I had to ask for help with!

Managed to get this for £27 which did seem to good to be true at the time and I guess it kind of was - havent got any further emails from them since the order confirmation so fingers crossed all good!

Was tempted to get it while the pre-order sale was still on but I have a few other games on my plate at the moment and wasnt too fussed with an extra £2 or so going to the developer/publisher when I do get around to getting it.

Looking forward to NL's review. Eurogamer and Polygon both recommend it.

I am not that much of a rougueliker (although loved Hades and ITB) - but having so much fun with the first Spelunky since it came to Switch.

Also - on these lists in general, shouldn't you remove some games as you add them, otherwise it just gets a bit unwieldy and not so useful to people new to the switch or genre looking at what to dabble in.

Died a million times in Spelunky trying to get the key from World 1 to the end of World 3 fir the final piece to get all tunnel shortcuts

Islanders for me - been a while since I picked up a cheap eshop title (less than £5) on a whim and then got decidedly addicted to it! Apparently I have cracked the top 100 on the global scoreboard which I find hard to believe!

Spelunky 1 has also been great fun so far (missed out on this back in the day) and might get the sequel too some day.

Fell off Axiom Verge on first playthrough so not desperate to play the sequel. Might pick up Art or Rally in a sale.

@Jack_Goetz if it makes you feel any better, defeating Ganon doesn't end the game (same as with all other Zelda games).

I played for quite a while after defeating Ganon (did the DLC post-ganon plus a lot of exploring on my bike)

Great choice for number 1 - love that game so much

Toussaint from Witcher 3 Blood & Wine seems a lovely place to while away time in a vineyard or two

Steam Gardens / Wooded Kingdom is banger but I’d also put a shout out to Forgotten Isle / Lost Kingdom - the other standout tuneage from SMO

@Moonlessky still have these in Europe - one of the few remaining reasons to keep subscribing other than the occasional decent game trial

What a talented composer - can’t even imagine how difficult it is to tie themes and ideas across a whole soundtrack (game or otherwise) together neatly and Celeste nails all that!

Not a big story here... yet. The 3DS eshop will still be around for a few years. The DS eshop didn't close until July 2020.

For my recent 3DS purchases I have just made them online on a web browser and then they magically appear on my 3DS home screen. That should hopefully continue for a while.

Getting definite Ori vibes from this one (the music - the upgrade trees) but the gameplay looks quite different.

Definitely one that I will be checking out reviews for when released.

Endling looks very interesting - a sort of evolution of Inside type gameplay (of which there have not been enough good games)

Grow: Song of the Evertree has a lot in it that reminds me of Ori (the music, the trees) but could be a cool gameplay style.
