Re: Review: Golden Sun: The Lost Age - More Of The Same, Which Is No Bad Thing

Baker1000

@Princess_Lilly while I understand the desire to play as a female avatar, it's a plot based cast. I can't remember if you can change who leads your party (and therefore appears on the map) but Felix is the main protagonist of TLA because of the fact he disappeared at the beginning of the story. And Isaac is the protagonist of the first game as it's his story. This isn't a game to have a blank avatar that can be swapped out to suit the players preference like Dragon Quest, or the Pokemon series.

Re: Talking Point: What Will The 'Switch 2' Actually Be Called?

Baker1000

They need to call it something unique. One of the problems with Wii U is people assumed it was some kind of add-on for the Wii. The Wii was SO big it reached a bunch of non-gamers. I once had one say to me Nintendo have made a new controller for it now, about 2 years after the Wii U was out. So yeah, people who don't follow gaming closely didn't know it was a whole new console.

Whatever it is, it needs to retain the key features of the Switch hardware whilst expanding upon it.

Re: E3 Has Been Cancelled, Permanently

Baker1000

End of an era. I'll never forget the days when streams weren't widely publicised and you felt like you were "in the know" if you found a way to watch it. And no one outside the internet gaming community even knew of the show. It gets reported on BBC radio now. Nothing has, and probably won't, replace it. Summer Games Fest isn't up to scratch. Too drawn out, few major announcements and seemingly tons of paid promo. As a Nintendo fan though, the sparkle was taken off the show when Nintendo started to do the Directs. I miss the stage presentations in front of an audience.

The next generation just won't know what that's like. They won't know the excitement of a week which is guaranteed to show off major announcements and new consoles. Now we have to put up with months of speculation about when the next Direct is coming, and it's never guaranteed. And usually on at awkward times for me. Nintendo always had the 5pm Tuesday slot at E3. You knew when to tune in every year.

Re: Video: Where Does Mario Kart Go From Here?

Baker1000

Seems obvious to me that the next "gimmick" they add to freshen up the formula will be tracks where the layout changes with every lap. You see the way it came into the city tracks once they came to MK8. That's gonna be every new track on the next game. Probably won't be released on the Switch, but Mario Kart Switch would've been the perfect name to go with that feature...

Re: Nintendo Updates Switch Online's N64 Release Schedule

Baker1000

@Don honestly it would be such a mickey take if they did that. The service shouldn't be tied to the console the same way the downloaded VC games used to be. Makes sense if they just launch the next console with all these games ready to play on day one and keep adding more. But this is Nintendo, who knows what they're thinking.

Re: Nintendo Updates Switch Online's N64 Release Schedule

Baker1000

Are we going to get Golden Sun (and it's sequel) on the GBA app any time before the new console?? It was one of the games featured in the announcement at launch. Just wondering if this service will continue on the next console in it's current state or if they'll do the Nintendo thing of scrapping it and starting entirely from nothing yet again. You'd hope it's the former, seeing as it's only streaming content.

Re: Review: Sonic Superstars - A Fine, Authentic-Feeling Return That Runs Great On Switch

Baker1000

Why does everyone say there are 12 zones? I got to zone 11's boss and was very surprised to find it was the final boss and the credits rolled (explains why it was so hard). There's the secret boss unlocked after beating both story campaigns but I wouldn't ever count that as an actual zone. It's just a boss fight.

Anyway, this review was quite generous with it's praise. Though it feels like old school Sonic, the level design isn't and it's full of ideas that feel just thrown in and not fleshed out. They're also horrendously long levels, taking 7-8 minutes in most cases. That gets very boring. Even worse is the bosses that take just as long. A few of the levels also borrow quite a bit from old Mega Drive ones, even using music which takes cues from at least one of them (Sky Temple is basically Sky Sanctuary). Special stages are confusing and frustrating. All in all, it's not a game I'll go back to anytime soon. But there are green shoots of promise emerging, if Sega don't rush out future releases on a short development cycle.

Re: Talking Point: Which Zelda Game Should Be Adapted For The Movie?

Baker1000

It'll be pretty predictable if they use Ocarina of Time, but I suppose it does allow a nice opening to follow it up with Majora's Mask. But I don't think they'd ever try to turn that into a film. Twilight Princess would be a nice one to use, already very cinematic and moody. I honestly think we'll get something original that takes elements and inspiration from various games. Little nods that the fans can recognise.

Re: Video: Digital Foundry's Technical Analysis Of Sonic Superstars

Baker1000

See now I didn't even notice it was 60fps. Just not something I ever put much stock in being a priority over 30fps. Definitely notice the longer loading times and the fact the loading screen animation hangs up all the time. Still looks great at 720p...just a shame so much of the game is half baked as per and they bloat out the acts with long boss battles. It would benefit from having 6-7 acts per world of smaller levels. They broke from tradition with having lots of acts per world in Sonic Frontiers. I don't understand why they feel side scrolling Sonic can have a maximum of 3 acts.

Re: Reaction: What's Your Gut Feeling On The Zelda Movie News?

Baker1000

Very excited for this. Full trust they'll do it justice. Being live action is even better for me, it means we won't be getting a cutesy animated film aimed at younger audiences. That suited Mario, but for Zelda we need something more mature, grittier. Hopefully the dialogue for Link is handled well. But even if you aren't excited by the film itself, we're gonna get a full soundtrack to go with it. They will actually have to release a full Zelda soundtrack for purchase at last. And all the new merch we're gonna get which ties in, like with Mario. It's a very exciting time to be a Zelda fan.

Re: Sega's Executive Director Wants Sonic Games And Movies To "Surpass Mario"

Baker1000

Sega need to stop being so sloppy with their games then. Too many little bugs or things which, if it was a Mario game, Nintendo wouldn't let fly and the game would be ironed out until it was perfect. Sega have always been far too keen to get a new Sonic release out every year. There's a reason Mario platformers don't release every year - they're developed properly.

Re: Nintendo Direct September 2023: Time, Where To Watch, Our Predictions

Baker1000

Just temper your expectations about any new console reveal. Very very unlikely it's going to announced this year, with the holiday season for the current Switch still to come. But if we're seeing more "end of life" type releases, i.e. lots of ports due next year, it could be an indication of the new console coming over the horizon. Though, it's not as if they don't announce ports galore in every Direct.

WW/TP and MP2 please.

Re: Rumour: 'Switch 2' Gamescom Demo Supposedly Had Zelda: BOTW Running At 4K 60FPS

Baker1000

I can't imagine they're going to port it over to run on the new hardware, if anything it would be TOTK getting a 2nd release. But I would imagine it was literally just to demonstrate the capabilities of the hardware. Here's hoping anyway, I don't think I have it in me to put 200 hours into that game all over again. I hope it's a sign of what a new, original game could be running at.

Re: Charles Martinet Will No Longer Be The Voice Of Mario

Baker1000

Was going to happen at some point. To be honest, I'm sure they have enough clips recorded that they don't ever need anything new. But I get the feeling they're moving into a different kind of Mario now. We'll probably have some actual dialogue scenes in the next game instead of the usual catchphrase based performance. As long as the games are great, I'm not worried.

An end of an era. Still, not a bad little gig getting to travel the world and promote Mario is it...

Re: Review: The Legend Of Zelda: Oracle Of Seasons - An Underappreciated Old-School Adventure

Baker1000

I actually prefer Seasons. Just find the season swapping mechanic a lot more interesting than just swapping between two points in time in Ages. Certainly never found there to be that much difference between the two that I'd rate them a whole point apart. Regardless, these need to be given the Link's Awakening treatment because they are both better games. Hey maybe they might even finally give us the 3rd one at the same time.
