@anoyonmus wow, this is a sister site to NL? It sounds like it's written by a Twitter account, really informal moping there. Do all their articles read like they were written by a petulant teenager?
This is the biggest surprise for me. Expected we'd get a port in like 10 years the same way we're getting ports of PS3 games now. Excited to get to play it not long after it's "new" since I don't own anything other than a Switch. Hope the last part comes out on Switch 2 at the same time.
It really could've been better. Few first party games announced, left out some of the finer details about the console and conveniently left out the key detail of the console price and the outrageous cost of physical games, and no word on the paid upgrade versions. Also, I'm 99% sure we're in for a bump up in NSO subscription price, which they also conveniently didn't mention (if it happens)
There's still so much they didn't show us like what the UI looks like, whether or not sharing photos from your console to post online is easier than the convoluted system we have now, showing us the new look Joy-Con cradle. No other colour alternatives is disappointing too.
Also, Mario Kart physical being £75. 75 British Pound Sterling, what the hell is that about Nintendo???
This being paid is just really really bizarre. It's a glorified information pack and demo. The same way they should've included 1-2 Switch as a built in game. Imagine Wii Sports wasn't free with the system, would it have been anywhere near as widely played and popular? Not at all. This should at the very very least be free to NSO subscribers. Shocking.
I think it’s obvious they’re announcing this now because they intend to unveil a Switch 2 model that is digital only along side one that excepts cartridges. So they can offer a cheaper model, for one. I don’t believe the fear mongers saying this means the card slot will except Switch 1 only and there won’t be physical Switch 2 games.
Really don't know what they could possibly show off that will release in the few months before Switch 2. Surely Metroid Prime 4 will be a cross-gen release so holding it for the Switch 2 Direct would make more sense?
No idea why they'd split first party and third party release windows...surely a good mixture of both is better for gamers. Roll on next week when all these rumours are done once and for all.
@Patendo British here, Bristolian in fact. So we don't pronounce words like a lot of the country. Never ever heard anyone say Chasm with the H left in. Also annoyed me he kept skipping over certain parts of words "grudo" instead of Gerudo, and "Tears o'Kingdom" instead of Tears of the Kingdom...
Really really cool, just a shame they're just big cubes and not more bespoke to match the design of the consoles. They aren't really practical to use on your every day keys if you carry them in your pocket. I'd pick Gamecube, then GBA if I could.
I think it's fairly obvious at this point we haven't seen much more of it because it's going to be the big launch title for Switch 2, with a dual release on Switch 1 too. It would be a missed opportunity to release it just on Switch 1 when it's about to be an obsolete console, and they's only end up giving it a Switch 2 release 6 months later anyway. I'll even go as far to say it will be the very first thing they open the Nintendo Direct with.
It's about time the battle system was overhauled entirely, but they won't touch it because the competitive scene relies on the tried and tested format. Which other RPG series has so rigidly kept to the same battle system with each entry? Probably only Dragon Quest.
They're bound to have something new lined up, the timing of this is very telling. But I'm sure it'll be exclusive to NSO subscribers, to give you more incentive to sign up.
This sort of shovelware plagued the Wii shop. I can't believe they didn't up their standards for what they allow on the Switch store but I guess money is money
That's a disgrace. They sell boxed games bigger than that and don't slap on an oversized charge. They may as well just bump up the price on the store front, at least they'd be up front about ripping customers off to make extra profit.
Yeah this is why working within the gaming industry might sound like a dream job, but when you can't enjoy it as a hobby because it's your job it really doesn't sound appealing to me.
That is absolutely horrible timing for anyone outside Japan/Oceania. I suppose it's not so bad on the west coast of US where you can wake up early. Ugh why can't they do this on a weekend? Looks like I'll probably be taking time off work to watch...
That's just odd. They should either be the same size, or cut in half to be square. That's the perfect size for the case, like CD case size and thickness. Going bigger is strange. Hopefully this is wrong.
@MrCarlos46 unless the tickets are only accessible through the webpage and you have to be logged into the account to have it on your phone, having them linked to certain accounts will be pointless. If they just send you an email near the date with a code to scan, anyone can use it. They can't prove it's not linked to your account.
@GrailUK why would he? He's going to be invited to an exclusive behind closed doors hands on event probably held the day after they air the Direct. And then his own console weeks before launch to try out. All of the games media industry have no need to attend these events, they'll have their own. And yes, he was selfish in applying for one, knowing full well he'll get invited out to Tokyo to see it anyway.
More fool anyone who actually buys it. Even if you're able to use it, you're funding a scalper who paid nothing to begin with. But also, I can't see how they can prevent anyone else using your ticket. Definitely not a foolproof system. You need a Nintendo account to get a ticket, but there's no actual way to prove that account that of the person attending. Unless they do name checks against a form of photographic ID, which seems unlikely.
As much as I would love to go and try out the console early, I wouldn't pay anywhere near that much to do it. It's not exactly a completely unique console experience, it'll largely be the same as the first Switch for the most part. The only really exciting thing would be playing the new games.
Nope. Just wondering how many tickets they had available tbh. In the UK, 3 timeslots per day, albeit overlapping with each other. It’s a huge place, that ExCeL centre. Obviously don’t know how much space they’ve rented out, but they can get a sizeable attendance there. And yet it seems as if like 5% of all applicants got tickets. Would love to know how many tickets were available for each timeslot and how many they’re allowing in at once with the overlapping times.
No mention of how automated Luigi is, which is a real disappointment. Find it strange you complain about the "random encounters" which are not actually random encounters since you can see the enemies on the map. It's a staple of the series and RPGs, you have to fight to level up. If that annoys anyone, they're playing the wrong genre.
It definitely made the reveal less exciting. But what it did do was prepare us for the fact there isn't anything revolutionary or innovative this time around. We've had months to let that reality sink in. Whereas if we had been hyped about this super secretive new console, expecting something really wild and excitedly trying to guess how they could go a step beyond the Switch, we would've been pretty bummed with this reveal. "Is that it?!" So it's both good and bad.
Annoying the leaks showed us pretty much everything. Wish there was something that expanded upon the design like dual screen play, but I guess a better more powerful version of the best selling console since PS2 isn't a bad thing. Name is a bit boring, but understandable to avoid the Wii U confusion. Just wish they would at least have done something more interesting with the logo. Even PlayStation change to logo entirely every generation so it feels distinct.
Wish it wasn't just an teaser and announcing a direct THREE MONTHS AWAY. We've waited so long, they really should've come out with the full showcase either today or in a weeks time, even if the release date is to be further away than we want it to be.
Here we go, more moaning about the track textures not being as sharp as they could be like with all the DLC tracks 😂
I really hope that DK design is just an optional skin and you can still play as the original design. Because why only him and not Mario and Luigi? Either have all or none available. Movie designs should stay in the movie and video game designs in the games imo
Do these guys ever post analysis and find something is flawless? Genuine question. They're obviously looking for flaws, that's their whole gig. They find something wrong with every game I swear.
Nintendo have just lost complete control of this whole thing. They've handed it so badly. 3rd party accessory companies revealing what the console looks like before them. Whoever is in charge of keeping this stuff getting out should be fired, frankly. Surely these companies had to sign NDAs to not disclose anything about the console until they're allowed? And now we're hearing a French journalist saying the release date is April. They may as well let someone else announce the launch games too. Don't even bother with an official trailer, it's all out in the open now anyway.

Knock-out racing. They'll do anything but give us a new F-Zero
