I was skeptical because it didn't look like a whole lot for the £18 price tag and I think you've convinced me to save my money, and spend my time more wisely on catching up with other games before the busy end of year release schedule hits.
I'll just buy the Switch 1 version and play it on my Switch 2. Any graphical enhancements the Switch 2 version has will be negligible I'm sure. At least to my eyes. This way I get it on the card and don't have to have a massive file eating up my storage.
One of the most annoying things about the key cards is having to sit and wait for the download to finish when you first put it in. It took an hour for me to download Bravely Default, I dread to think how long it'll take me to download FFVII Remake, which is 10x the size. And then having to have storage space for them. I'll need a new SD card for all of FFVII by the time it's complete. And I know it's too big to fit on a card but we had solutions for that once upon a time in releasing games on multiple discs. Tales of Symphonia was on two of those tiny discs on GameCube, you just pop in the 2nd one when it gets to a certain point in the game.
It's funny because if it's anything like the quality of recent Sonic games it'll be straight trash and not hold a candle to Mario Kart. Double Dash would probably give it a run for it's money
Just a side note, Monolith is the company that pulled off the amazing worlds of BotW and XC3. Retro is making this, so I don't think we can use them to reassure us. Rather, Retro gave us some amazing environments in the past so I think we're still in safe hands
Never had the chance to play any Virtual Boy games or try the original hardware, so I'll be getting this. However, slightly disappointing it doesn't include a replica of the original controller for the price, which is just for a plastic shell that isolates two images being directed into each eye on a separate screen, so no electronics necessary.
Should've added this when they added the first game, but happy to see it finally arrive. 3rd one next? Also, may we hope this hints at an announcement in the upcoming Direct? Hmmm maybe not, but I will anyway.
I really can't see Playstation gamers wanting the trade-off in specs just so they can play on the go. They'll want the full spec version first and foremost, and judging by the price of the current gen they won't likely fork out for another model to sit along side it that they only use occasionally. Plus let's be totally honest, if the handheld has lower specs than the standard TV connected version, many games will be developed that can only run on the better hardware anyway. But nice try and proof Nintendo have their competitors scrambling to try and gain a share of their market.
@N00BiSH At the end of the day, sooner or later they'd have had to find a replacement for Martinet, whether he retired of his own accord or sadly passed away. Unless they just wanted to reuse the same clips forever. The fact they've found someone that folks like me can't tell the difference between without a comparison video, I'd say they've done a pretty good job.
@N00BiSH lmao I'm not gonna lie, I didn't even pick up on him sounding any different from the last 30 years...maybe I've never listened hard enough but I really think some of you are trying to hear a difference. I quite honestly forget it's not even Charles doing the voice anymore.
Looks great but nothing like Ghibli lol. Where are the painted backgrounds? We need to stop making cel-shaded anime visuals and calling it Ghibli inspired. If it looks nothing like Ni No Kuni, which was a game with Ghibli visuals, then it's not Ghibli-esque.
Yeah I thought it must've been a Switch 2 thing. The very last scenes of the main game were way out of sync for me, never noticed any issues at all on Switch 1. Was also the same in the final scenes of the epilogue even when the rest of it was completely fine. Annoying it happens during the biggest moments of the game.
It's an area of the game which is kept secret so well. I'd spent so many hours in the game since watching the initial opening movie that I completely forgot that you see the arm get sliced off. When you land there after falling from the sword, it's like "of COURSE this is where you end up" And the sorrowful music only adds to that "forgotten land" feel, because it really is forgotten. To discover a humanoid race living there was big twist too. My favourite area will always be Satorl Marsh at night time, but the Fallen Arm is right up there. The entire game is filled with incredible settings from start to finish.
It's a shame we never got Mania 2. Superstars had some nice ideas but ultimately suffered from courses being way too long and boss battles being unnecessarily drawn out. Mania is still the best sidescrolling Sonic in almost 2 decades.
Just a completely wasted opportunity to not release the soundtracks along side the games, or at least a week later. The drip feeding of one game at a time (except the rare exception of dumping multiple NES titles) is tedious.
They could bump this back to next year and I'd be pleased (too much else out around the end of the year)
Joking (not really) aside I just hope they actually tie it into the game's story accurately this time. No rewriting events to make a better video game story.
@Hapless of course the title is dumb, this is from the Octopath, Bravely Default and Triangle Strategy team! It's practically a tradition to name things on the nose like this
I mean it's pretty obvious Mario is depicted as being bashful whenever Peach is affectionate. He'd like there to be something more but she only sees friendship
@Suketoudara lol of course I've played it. The jumping is just about ok for getting onto rails, but the charge is too slow to make any sort of snap decision to ride up the wall, especially as it can be tricky to not end up powersliding instead. I never see anyone do it. The only use I've found for the charge jump is getting boosts on long straights. And I played MK8 a few days before this game came out, and this hasn't felt any different. Maybe I'll notice the difference if I go back to MK8 now
Bit confused about when it actually opens for applications. Saying on the link to create an application from Friday, but then step 2 it says they'll start accepting applications from Monday. Then it also says we should create the application by Monday.
It plays exactly like MK8 doesn't it? Only worse because they removed the option for holding items behind you with a button and made it automatic. There's also that pretty useless charge jump...
I know nothing about either, which is a good thing. Better it's unknowns than big names people have an opinion on before even seeing any footage. And no controversial picks that cause a storm on social media for or against. I will say they look very much like they'll fit the characters. Benjamin looks as if he could be Kokiri. So who's playing Navi?
Have they been trying to revive? Didn't realise. I'll start with a tip, and I've said it multiple times on here, stop shoving Sonic games out once a year. It's entirely predictable there's a Sonic release around Oct/Nov and they always feel undercooked. Maybe give each game another year from when you think it's finished...
If that's the case so be it. I'd rather games aren't pumped out on a schedule to please impatient fans. Something the Pokemon and Sonic games desperately need to take on board.
I checked my GameChat a few days ago and, out of a dozen or so of my friends list who have a Switch 2, only 4 of them had bothered to set it up. Which means the others likely haven't so much as touched the C button yet to see what's going on. It's not a great sign. There needs to be a game that benefits from it, like Metroid Prime 4 having an online mode.
I work my way through every CC starting at 50 so I build up knowledge of the tracks at every difficulty. It's annoying this time that they've put the CC selection after the cup selection so it's harder to keep track of where you are. Also, for some bizarre reason (one of many bizarre design decisions in this game) the cup selection screen displays 3 star gold on every cup even if you've only cleared it once...who even thought that was a good idea?
I have to say the track design this time around doesn't feel memorable at all. I've only raced them all once so far, along with all of the Knockout Tour versions, so it could change when I'm more familiar. The environments are gorgeous and there are some nice references to the past that are memorable but the decision to make every track connected to the last is frankly just not it. The first part of the race still feels like the last course, then by the time you actually get to the circuit there's just one lap. No way of being able to remember a shortcut you spotted from the last lap. If you're out in first the whole way you don't get the usual scattered items from the last lap to pick up, not is there any way of planting a trap for someone to fall into on the next lap (and seriously, why no fake item boxes this time?) Too much of the in between track is just a straight line.
The connected track cups should've been part of an adventure or story mode with light RPG elements where you improve stats on your kart. Or maybe just have the cups be "7 races" with 4 circuits and then a shorter "between" race between them all where you can pick up bonus points or maybe some power ups to bank and use in the next race. What we need, and what I hope we get, is a classic mode where it's just a 3 lap race of the basic circuits. Because how they're going to add the inevitable DLC tracks from old games into this I don't know. Hopefully they aren't gonna track and make a whole new map and join them all up.
Think it should be noted these review scores are for the update, not the entire game. It's still a 10/10 game, but with a 9/10 update over the original
I needed this for my Switch 1. About 18 months ago the battery icon just stopped displaying the accurate percentage and it would turn off without any warning notification that the power was low. At first around 50% then later as high as mid 70%'s. Even after replacing the battery myself, so it was definitely a system issue. 8 years of use cooked it I guess.
The HORI 24 card case from the first Switch is still the best. I'm on my 4th case so I'll just keep filling it with those lovely red Switch 2 ones until I need another.
This will be handy for Mario Kart, because honestly having it the same side as the joystick is annoying for capturing anything whilst in play. Not like you can take your thumb off A to press it either
