Re: Mario Kart World Devs Perfected Its Controls By Skating And Riding During Their Lunch Breaks

Baker1000

@Suketoudara lol of course I've played it. The jumping is just about ok for getting onto rails, but the charge is too slow to make any sort of snap decision to ride up the wall, especially as it can be tricky to not end up powersliding instead. I never see anyone do it. The only use I've found for the charge jump is getting boosts on long straights. And I played MK8 a few days before this game came out, and this hasn't felt any different. Maybe I'll notice the difference if I go back to MK8 now

I know nothing about either, which is a good thing. Better it's unknowns than big names people have an opinion on before even seeing any footage. And no controversial picks that cause a storm on social media for or against. I will say they look very much like they'll fit the characters. Benjamin looks as if he could be Kokiri. So who's playing Navi?

Re: Video: Right, We Need To Talk About GameChat On Switch 2

Baker1000

I checked my GameChat a few days ago and, out of a dozen or so of my friends list who have a Switch 2, only 4 of them had bothered to set it up. Which means the others likely haven't so much as touched the C button yet to see what's going on. It's not a great sign. There needs to be a game that benefits from it, like Metroid Prime 4 having an online mode.

Re: Poll: Do You Three-Star-Gold Every Mario World Grand Prix Before Moving On To The Next?

Baker1000

I work my way through every CC starting at 50 so I build up knowledge of the tracks at every difficulty. It's annoying this time that they've put the CC selection after the cup selection so it's harder to keep track of where you are. Also, for some bizarre reason (one of many bizarre design decisions in this game) the cup selection screen displays 3 star gold on every cup even if you've only cleared it once...who even thought that was a good idea?

Re: Poll: So, What's Your Favourite Course In Mario Kart World?

Baker1000

I have to say the track design this time around doesn't feel memorable at all. I've only raced them all once so far, along with all of the Knockout Tour versions, so it could change when I'm more familiar. The environments are gorgeous and there are some nice references to the past that are memorable but the decision to make every track connected to the last is frankly just not it. The first part of the race still feels like the last course, then by the time you actually get to the circuit there's just one lap. No way of being able to remember a shortcut you spotted from the last lap. If you're out in first the whole way you don't get the usual scattered items from the last lap to pick up, not is there any way of planting a trap for someone to fall into on the next lap (and seriously, why no fake item boxes this time?) Too much of the in between track is just a straight line.

The connected track cups should've been part of an adventure or story mode with light RPG elements where you improve stats on your kart. Or maybe just have the cups be "7 races" with 4 circuits and then a shorter "between" race between them all where you can pick up bonus points or maybe some power ups to bank and use in the next race. What we need, and what I hope we get, is a classic mode where it's just a 3 lap race of the basic circuits. Because how they're going to add the inevitable DLC tracks from old games into this I don't know. Hopefully they aren't gonna track and make a whole new map and join them all up.

Re: Feature: Farewell, Nintendo Switch - It's Finally Time To Bid Our Old Friend 'Adieu'

Baker1000

Had my Switch since launch in 2017, and it's still going. Not going strong mind, the battery is pretty knackered and the console switches off without warning after a couple of hours (even after I replaced the battery myself). I've got a Switch Lite which I use for travel since it's easier to pack and I don't need to use the docking feature. It accompanied me on my first trip to America. Speaking of which, my fave Switch memory happened on that trip when attending a wedding in Las Vegas. The best man had his Switch upstairs in his hotel room and before I knew it, we were playing Mario Kart on the same screen in table-top mode in the bridal suite. No other console would that be possible, but that's the magic of the Switch.

It's the first console where I haven't been able to keep up with all the releases I've wanted to play, creating an actual backlog which is something I hear gamers complain about all the time. There are several games I've eyed up and still not picked up, so I'll likely still be buying games well after Switch 2 is out. And a few I've still not gotten around to starting. I'm still very much invested in Xenoblade Chronicles X and so I'll still be playing Switch games even after Thursday. I can't remember another console where I was still playing it right up until the next one launched. That just shows the strength of the console. I feel like it still has years left it, honestly. So farewell, you little dream machine. It's been a blast.

Re: Retailer Smyths Is Holding A Switch 2 Midnight Launch Across All UK Stores

Baker1000

Boucher Road is where exactly?

(before anyone shouts at me, I did google it, it's in Belfast, but that's not the point)

None in Wales, or south west England and the Midlands, is poor. Actually, only 5 across the entire country is pretty poor but who bothers with a midnight launch these days anyway? They obviously can't justify a nationwide opening

Re: Nintendo Today! Update Prevents Users From Recording Promotional Videos

Baker1000

Rarely remember to check the app, I see everything posted on here and social media anyway. So I can see why they've done it.

How does Stealth40k manage to get all his videos straight from the Directs or straight from Nintendo's twitter page to repost on his own within seconds? He must use some sort of capture software to do it. This won't stop him.

Re: Gallery: Nintendo Gives Us A Closer Look At Its New Store In The US

Baker1000

Nintendo are missing a trick not having one of these in Europe. Doesn't even have to be in the UK, I would fly to another city for the sole purpose of visiting (and just an excuse to be a tourist in a foreign destination) but going all the way to New York or San Fran for it isn't feasible. We haven't yet had confirmation Super Nintendo World is going to be at Universal Studios when it arrives here. We need a Nintendo Mecca to flock to in Europe. It would probably be in Germany where the HQ is tbh

Re: Feature: The Long & Rainbow Road To 'Mario Kart World', From SNES To Switch 2

Baker1000

A heavy dose of nostalgia on those MK64 votes. It's certainly not "outstanding" by any modern metric. Aged very poorly, but was revolutionary for it's time. Super Circuit is criminally underrated. Admittedly the first one I owned and played fully, so perhaps nostalgia goggles on. But challenging and hard to master. Nice to see they've brought back the feature where you need to finish above the cut off point to continue, in MKW.

Re: Store Listing Suggests Switch 2 Joy-Con Might Be Customisable

Baker1000

Oh wow, we're taking aliexpress as a source? That site is renowned for being littered with cheap imitation and fake products. It really is the wild west of just sell anything that can be mass produced and sold for pennies. Nothing on there is legit. Nothing.

That being said I'm shocked the controllers are launching in just one colour combination. Not just the interior colours but the outside. After the Switch 1 was so focused on brightly coloured Joy-Con that can be swapped about, now we just have black and any colour is tucked away inside.

Re: The Company That "Leaked" Switch 2 Is Being Sued By Nintendo

Baker1000

Honestly good. Did they think they could get away with it? It was a completely ridiculous situation where we had seen almost everything about the console but still no official confirmation from Nintendo. Really killed the hype of the unveiling because it was just confirming everything we already knew.
