Maybe I'm missing something, but when you see all these companies who are pushing AI and tell us how it will improve our lives... If people are pushed out of jobs because AI replaces them, how are they going to afford to buy their products? From what I understand, the way an economy works is that people have jobs, earn money, then spend some on other products made by other people and the cycle continues. Entertainment and tech companies seem to not be thinking about this, which is hilarious to me because they are selling products that are not necessities, but luxuries. If someone is struggling financially, these are the some of the first things they will cut out of their personal budget...
Hopefully the sequel will run at 60fps, while also expanding on the features and long-tail of the game.
Visually, while some nicer graphics/effects would be welcome, I actually think the art direction and visuals style of New Horizons doesn't need much added, it's very beautiful. Framerate is more of a concern for me on this series. With an OLED display, the amount of lateral movement really makes it feel quite judder-y
Switch 2 60fps mode has the same resolution handheld and docked. Random but should look good still. Hopefully the docked mode has some form of anti-aliasing!
I think the game looks great, but I did not like the actual Direct. Too long for me, as it's a game I just want to play. I am not jonesing for info on it as I never played the original. I just want to see a couple reviews/videos and see if it's worth me giving it a shot. I have little doubt the game will be awesome. My favourite parts of the presentation were very short: when he played a race in the water/ocen biome (looked incredible), when he was flying around the island and all those spiky things were crashing down, and the final reveal at the end.
I am glad Sakurai is allowed to present stuff in the way he wants, and it has its charm, but for me this kind of presentation was not what I personally needed for this specific game.
Hope they do Octopath 1 & 2, plus Live A Live Switch 2 versions/patches. Like they just announced for DQ III. I have them on Steam but not played yet. Would rather buy again and play on Switch 2…
I mean technically every game competes with GTA VI lol. But I do understand his sentiment. The reality is there will not be a game that can match GTA VI's ambition. It is a singular IP that has a near infinite budget and infinite dev time. Which they have earned. I'm excited for both. Will wait until the PC release for GTA VI though, don't like playing Rockstar titles at 30fps due to their input lag derived from animation bias versus input bias.
I hope there is no jiggle/wobble when they are in there, like there is with Switch 1. I use a Neo-Grip which alleviates that, but would be nice for it to feel a lot more sturdy without one.
This is probably the only third-party accessory I will get at launch, not counting a MicroSD Express card (which more of a necessity than an accessory). The NeoGrip for my Switch OLED was transformative for me, makes handheld so much more comfortable without making it bulkier. An amazing and super simple design. 100% recommended!
Just remove those disgusting grey gradient borders and allow simple black bars. And some kind of control customisation. I’ll literally pay double for those two incredibly basic features lol. But seeing as Nintendo can’t do that, I’ll keep my Steam Deck for all emulation needs 😂
Glad they are gone. Spoiling a Direct mere days before it goes live is just lame. I don’t mind rumours about a studio potentially starting work on X game/IP that is years away. Leaking something that is going to be revealed imminently is just spoiling carefully planned surprises!
If they want to create a lasting relationship with Switch Online, maybe give players the option to remove those disgusting grayscale gradient borders on every emulator… Why can’t they just be black borders, you have an OLED screen on your console?! I would play classic games via Switch Online, but due to those unsightly things I opt for the Steam Deck instead.
I wonder how it will run Switch 1 games handheld and make up for the resolution differential. Could run the Switch 1 docked configuration in Switch 2 regardless of whether it is docked or handheld... Not that many Switch games even ran at 1080p docked anyway lol. There's a chance for a 3DS/DS scenario where technically the 3DS could play DS games, but they looked worse than on original hardware.
I assume there will be some "Deluxe" versions Nintendo and others try to sell us or (hopefully) there will be free or cheap patches/upgrades that offer enhanced backwards compatibility with improved resolution/graphics settings/framerate.
One thing that could be really interesting, but probably not possible, is if Nintendo and Nvidia find a way to bolt on a special fork of DLSS that works at a system-level, and allows Switch 1 games to be upscaled. Not as full-featured as a native patch or an actual Switch 2 game, but still uses some of the DLSS tech to offer some scaling with AA or something.
While Super Nintendo Switch/Nintendo Super Switch is nice for nostalgia, it would be a terrible idea. It either has to be Switch 2 or some new name/brand. They cannot afford to have any kind of situation where the name doesn't state that this is their NEXT MAIN CONSOLE that has games only on this device, and not just an upgraded Switch/Switch Pro. While we will all understand, they need to ensure kids' parents and people who do not follow the games media/marketing cycle get that this is the next big thing from Nintendo and will be for the foreseeable future. You can't get the new Mario/Zelda/Mario Kart for your Switch, you need to buy the Switch 2/whatever it is called.
Waiting on reviews and technical makeup of the Switch version. If it’s an 8/10 and 1080p 60fps docked, then will get it. If the game is good but the Switch version has poor performance or resolution, then will get it for PC.
Really hope Metroid Prime 4 ends up a launch windiw/first year title for the next console. Seeing what was done with Metroid Prime Remastered, just imagine what the possibilities are for new hardware. It already feels like Remastered maxed out the Switch's capabilities.
I'm probably in the minority here, but I hope Metroid Prime 4, the next Grezzo game and Pikmin 4 are for the next Nintendo console. I still have so many Switch games to play and at this point the console really is starting to creak. Pikmin and Metroid Prime 4 are both games that would heavily benefit from more advanced hardware.
Persona 3 and 4. While the rumours of a new Mario Kart seem cool, I kinda hope Pikmin 4 and Mario Kart 9/X are launch titles for a new console that has DLSS upscaling to 4K. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe already uses the power of the platform to the max, while Pikmin is one Nintendo series where higher resolution would really be a gameplay benefit.
Problem with Waluigi is that he will likely be similar to Mario/Luigi/Wario. I know they are different with their own individual moves, but I think for the final Smash character it has to be something shocking and special. Waluigi is fan requested, but I really don't get why - is it just for representation and to complete the set? He's an awesome character, but I wouldn't wanna waste a Smash slot on him. Sorry if I'm offending anyone! Personal choice would be Crash, Phoenix Wright or Master Chief...
The specs are amazing, it’s kind of like like an Xbox Series S console tuned for handheld play and 720p resolution. Very exciting. Not a fan of how it looks at all, but I’m still very tempted. As a big Nintendo fan who also loves tech and all the other platforms too, I find the Switch at this point is feeling a little long in the tooth, particularly when I dock it to my 4K TV. I know that I am still in the minority of who Nintendo’s offering is for, but it would be nice if they catered to more than just the lowest common denominator. I like how Xbox has you covered whether you want the most high end (Series X or PC) or just an entry model (Xbox One, Series S, Cloud, budget PC).
I hope the next Nintendo console comes in Q1 2023 with BOTW 2 (let’s be honest “targeting 2022” is Nintendo speak for not a chance) and has a similar power level to this Steam Deck in handheld and leverages boost clocks and DLSS to deliver at 1080p native resolution AI upscaled to 4K/1440p TV experience… I’m probably dreaming but you never know!
As someone who did the survey I wouldn’t read too much into it. At the beginning there were questions about games that have launched on PS5 and other IPs, like Burnout. Then the majority of the survey was about Destruction All-Stars. It went on and on about that game, it was very disrespectful of my time haha. I imagine the Burnout question could allude to something but also it’s a well known IP that bears some kind of similarity to Destruction All-Stars, being a vehicular destruction game. Either way. Sony clearly want to push Destruction All-Stars or find out why people did not resonate with it.
Day one. DLSS is amazing technology and the fact that the console also has a new chip and increased RAM should end up equalling to a nice improvement. If it can hit 1080p internal resolution when docked the DLSS with turn in a very competent 4K upscale. Fingers crossed it means we get native 720p games in handheld, with some targeting 60fps too in bother docked and handheld. I think this could be a very exciting piece of hardware! It might even be able to output in HDR in handheld mode which would be pretty cool
720p is a brilliant resolution for a screen that size. There are barely any games that hit 720p in handheld, so it would be great to get hardware that hits that. As an example, Arms or Mario Kart 8 Deluxe run at a locked 720p handheld and locked 1080p docked - they look great. Also the fact that it has an OLED screen is a massive jump in quality. Response time, black levels, contrast ratio and colour saturation will all be massively improved. It's going to look incredible.
For the Switch Pro to hit 4K there is obviously going to be DLSS involved. DLSS tends to give you a 4x jump in resolution from its source resolution. So again, a Switch that can comfortably hit 720p in portable mode and 1080p (internal) in docked mode will give a really great 4K image using DLSS.
I will always be curious to see what he does, as Ninja Gaiden is a pretty close to perfect game. I also remember Dead or Alive 3 and Xtreme Beach Volleyball being quite good from a gameplay perspective on the OG Xbox. Unfortunately the guy does have some questionable opinions and extravagances, so hopefully he can reign those in and rediscover the incredible gameplay that made him who he was. Not gonna hold my breath for that though lol.
Very cool to see their commitment to the game. I'm still waiting for the next performance improvement patch... They said they were still working on one. Maybe Switch Pro will allow for it. Really excited to play the version as they intended so will keep waiting!
Yup same story here, I can't add it to the cart. I did also get those lovely Hanafuda postcards, they could be added to the cart with no issue, so there must be heavy traffic on the DoDo reusable bag page.
@Impaler-D completely agree with that, they announced and released Hey Pikmin a few months after he made that statement, I still don’t get why so many people believe he meant a different game lol.
All sounds good to me. I’m still very confused as to why Wind Waker HD hasn’t made the jump too. It would probably sell a good two million minimum. It’s also the perfect game for these dark times.
Fingers crossed for Steamworld Quest! Although I think it says the eShop code is North American...? If it is, I will give it it my bro who lives stateside!
