Re: Nintendo Reiterates Plans For Animal Crossing: New Horizons Save Data Workarounds

tomwinsagain

It’s really frustrating because only like 0.5% or less of players will use cloud saves to exploit the game. This means everyone else gets shafted. Apart from Mario and Zelda, Animal Crossing and Pokémon are probably their two biggest franchises and also those best suited to portable play. As an owner of a Switch and a Switch Lite I’ve found myself using the Lite so much more.

But even bearing that in mind I’m also forced into a situation where I have to make an executive decision before I start the game to decide if I want my save for those two games to live on my Switch or my Lite. Pokémon is on the Lite as it’s visually not amazing and it’s always been a portable experience for me, but for Animal Crossing I’m really not sure what I’m going to do. Even with a save transfer coming, is it going to be a single use thing or is it going to work like most other games do now? There’s no concrete info yet and it’s really frustrating for Nintendo to limit save transfers for the franchises that really benefit the most out of owning the two systems they decided to make. I mean it’s a first world problem but it’s also classic Nintendo to create that problem in the first place...

Re: Poll: Nintendo Switch Lite Is Out Today, Are You Getting One?

It's a really nice machine if you want portable only, but I like being able to customise my Switch with different Joy Con combinations.

I'm personally waiting for a Switch Pro, I want it so much. I really would like it if the console could do at least native 1080p docked. For the first year or so we were getting a fair amount of 900p or higher games, but now those resolutions keep on getting lower. As a 4K TV owner it is frustrating (sorry if I sound entitled!). 1080p still looks great on a 4K TV, but when you go lower than that it starts to look a little rough.

A Switch Pro that actually ran games at native 720p portable and 1080p or more docked would be really lovely. It would also be cool if the chip upgrade allowed for things like checkerboard/sparse rendering, meaning we could games looking a lot crisper, even if the native res is not really high. Other stuff - CPU needs a big boost and I reckon they should double the RAM. Also decent Wi-fi and Bluetooth chips would be nice.

A man can dream, even with all its flaws, this is still probably my favourite console ever!

Re: Switch Owners Choose To Play EA Games On Other Platforms, Says Company CEO

I would totally play Titanfall on Switch if I could! In fact the original Titanfall was made for Xbox 360, so that version could be easily brought over to Switch in a slightly souped up way.

A Way Out would be perfect for the system and it would be great to get a Star Wars game on there, whether an original one or a port of Battlefront/Jedi: Fallen Order.

Bethesda do it and they choose the games that make sense to be on there. EA just puts out inferior titles then complains when nobody buys them... Not a great look guys.

Re: Video: Digital Foundry Takes A Look At The Legend Of Zelda: Link's Awakening E3 Demo

I can not wait for this game, loved the original on Game Boy Color and on the 3DS Virtual console. I just downloaded Oracle of Ages/Seasons on the 3DS Virtual Console to get me hyped. This looks so beautiful and the tilt-shift aesthetic works really well for Zelda, giving it a tangible, mini fantasy story feel

That said, I'm really hoping that the Switch Pro is indeed real as we are seeing more and more games target lower resolutions on the system. Plus, these resolutions mean an even lower target handheld, where sometimes I'm playing games that are running at 360p or 480p, which is a shame.

As a 4K TV owner, anything at 1080p or higher looks great but anything under 900p starts to look a bit jaggy, pixelated or blurry, depending on how the game is rendered. I realise that I'm in the minority owning a 4K TV, but I would just love to have Switch games render at 900p or higher docked.

Re: Mario Kart Tour Beta Test Details And Images Are Already Leaking Online

Looks like they've taken a level from the 3DS version, with that big Toad float. Also, I'm pretty surprised at how bare-bones this looks, I was expecting something a lot closer to Mario Kart 8 Deluxe visually. I definitely expected more from probably their most popular franchise heading to mobile... Also why do you race in portrait format?!

Re: Guide: Every Nintendo Switch Joy-Con Controller Available Right Now

tomwinsagain

While I think the Joy Con are great, I am very disappointed with their build quality. I have a Neon blue/red set who's analog sticks are broken and no longer register input. Before they broke there was analog drift too.

I have an X button on my Mario red set that gets slightly stuck and feels odd every 10th or so press. I also have an analog stick on that set that works, but now feels weird sometimes, like the travel mechanism is loose or something. I have a similar button issue on my yellow neon set with the B button too.

To repair a Joy Con with Nintendo when it is over a year old it costs £30 for each individual Joy Con, no matter what the issue. That is ridiculous, I could buy a new one for just £10 more?! Really not cool, they clearly made it that price in order to encourage more sales.

As someone who lost my Switch case, along with the carts of Octopath Traveler, Crash Bandicoot, Dragon Quest Builders, Mario Tennis Aces and Xenoblade Chronicles 2...

I would love them to do this boxed digital initiative in Europe. Luckily I was holding my Switch, so didn't lose that!

The Switch boxes look amazing, but I actually prefer the convenience and no risk of loss of going digital. So for me the ideal would be to have the boxes for display and to appreciate the lovely box art, but digital for my peace of mind!

Great that he's giving the younger generations a chance to shine. He has had a great career so far and at 50 years old, probably has at least another 15 years left. I would love it if he oversaw the series in general, but really focused his efforts on new ideas. Game Freak have made some cool titles like HarmoKnight, Tembo the Badass Elephant and Drill Dozer, so seeing more new stuff from them would be welcome.

Re: Rumour: New Nintendo Switch SKU Planned For Late 2019

tomwinsagain

@thesilverbrick I see your point, and I do think the current screen is great already. I forgot to add that I would like a resolution increase and a size increase on the screen! If it had a more modern display that is thinner, they could also hopefully eat into that rather large bezel around the current Switch screen. This way, they could keep the Switch size the same, but have a bigger and higher resolution screen. Also I would love a modern OLED display on there, would happily pay extra if they had that as an "elite" option or whatever.

Re: Rumour: New Nintendo Switch SKU Planned For Late 2019

tomwinsagain

As a 4K TV owner I'd like a Switch Pro. As long as the first-party and indie software is compatible with the original, I would love a 1080p screen on the unit and a dock that allows for 900p/1080p minimum or higher resolutions. First world problems but 720p or lower does look a bit soft or a bit jaggy on a 55 inch 4K TV. This would hopefully mean that AAA 3rd party support would be improved, with the kind of games we see on PS4 and Xbox One. Maybe i'm dreaming haha.

Re: Nintendo Is Announcing "A New Way To Play" Later Today

tomwinsagain

Some kind of toy/amiibo accessory, or something to do with creation/drawing. I definitely think it will have something to do with combining digital (Switch) and tangible (drawing/toy/object/gesture) elements.

In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if it uses that IR motion/gesture camera on the bottom of the right Joy-Con that hasn't been talked about since the Switch reveal..

Re: Ubisoft Thinks The Next Console Cycle Isn't Far Away, So Where Does That Leave Switch?

tomwinsagain

@hiptanaka I think something akin to the iPhone model makes sense for Switch. As you say, everything is backwards compatible but some games will require a specific Switch version to work.

Also I think whatever the next Switch iteration is, it will have a 1080p display and docked will output at 1440p, so as to look good on 4K TVs. Current Switch games will hopefully then play in their current docked performance mode when you play them portable on the next Switch.
