Re: Talking Point: Metroid Prime 4 And The Burden Of Being 'Good Enough'

rjejr

Not a Metroid fan but the part about legacy reminds me I’ve been hoping that Monolithsoft next JRPG isn’t Xenoblade 4 or XCX 2 but rather Xeno something new. I’m not worried about it being bad but sometimes it’s better to start anew. No expectations.

Xenogears was great (for a disc). Xenosaga had a great first game and satisfactory 3rd. XC is my favorite JRPG of all time. They can start fresh and still succeed.

As others have said, maybe when they restarted MP4 they should have kept it cancelled and simply called this Metroid Beyond.

Re: The Live-Action Zelda Movie Is Coming To Netflix

rjejr

Not surprised, plenty of movies go to Netflix after the theater. And having a digital run after release is great for people ho what to buy a Gigi tail film for $25 or rent it for $5. So we’re looking at propbably holiday 2027 or early 2028 before it gets trapped on NF. Not marking my calendar for it

Re: Review: Animal Crossing: New Horizons - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition - A Cheap Upgrade, But Lacking Substance

rjejr

I booted up the game last night for the first time in 5 years. Was glad my save file carried over back when we did the transfer to our Switch 2. Wouldn’t pay $5 for a minor boost. There did seem to be a lot new in the game to me but I suppose a lot of that was in the 2.0 update. Like Isaid, I ahevn’t turned the game on in 5 years.
Game does look nice w/o the $5 upgrade on my 75” 4k tv, not sure how much better it needs to look w/ graphics Ike that. I might pay $5 for camera control. We have it inside our houses, would be nice to look around outside as well.

One thing that took me back was how close in the camera is. Even using the right stick to change the view you. Can never pul back to see more than just a few feet around the character. And once you start moving again the camera zooms back in. Way too close up on my big screen tv. I played Hello kitty. I stand Adventure for a month about 6 month ago and while it’s basically the same game but w/ Sanrio skins it does have a much wider view, I’d say about double what ACNH has. Just not to my liking.

Not planning on playing it any further though. Infinity Nikki is my current “time wasting” game. And I dont’ think that one is evr going to end. And it’s free. And it’s graphically closer to what I like, and what I’m used too. And camera control. I really don’t like not having camera control. I know that’s a me problem, so be it.

Re: Boom! The Animal Crossing: New Horizons 3.0 Update Is Now Available

rjejr

I haven;t played it in years after playing every single day for over a year. Which means I don’t know whee my save file is, if its anywhere. We got our Switch 2 over the summer and a few months after our Switch started going frozen rainbow screen after 20 minutes, on tv or handheld, so i finally wiped it in hopes of fixing it since we no longer use it anyway. So my save file might be on Switch 2, or it might be gone. We used to have NO but currently don;t. We do have a code for NO+ we need to redeem but haven;t yet.

Guess i could go find out, I’ll try out the new stuff, maybe my 9 AC amiibo ncluding Mr Restti will do something, but I’m not starting over, I don’t have a spare 1,000 hours to sink back into it. Like @Morsel mentioned, Helo Kitty, which I played for a month, had so much more going on. I’d rather go back to that. But I gotta know, you know?

Re: "I Don't See AI Taking Over" - Split Fiction Director Josef Fares On The Rise Of AI

rjejr

This whole article seems very "moving the goalposts". This is a video game website, we aren't really here to talk about Skynet taking over, but what large % of the video game workforce is going to lose their jobs to computer programs and how bad are the games going to be relying so much on computer programs to make them.

There's a huge gap between - AI is taking over - and the serious concerns of unemployment and garbage games.

Re: Nintendo's Investors Are Reportedly "Spooked" As Stock Slides

rjejr

Look at that graph. The problem isn't the stock being down 33% since August, over a 6 month period,,the problem is the stock traded in a range of 12,000 to 14,000 for 4 months from August to November, and then in just the past 2 months the stock has lost about 30%, going from 14,000 in November to under 10,000 in mid-January. The stock price bottomed out of it.s range over the holidays recently, going back to August makes no sense,

Now of course in the big picture I have no idea what the rest of the Japanese stock market has done over the past 60 days. If the entire market is down around 30% then Nintendo is just following suit. If the overall stock market is down 50% then Nintendo is doing well. If the rest of the Japanese stock market is breaking even or up the past 2 months, ove even 6 months, then Nintendo has a problem.

Nintendo will probably be fine though, they own the handheld market, and the new Mario movie releases soon. And maybe the Zelda movie won't suck. Stock probably just got too high for it's own good, irrational exhurberance, and maybe 10,000 is where it really should be?

Who knows, money isn't real, stock market is gambling.🤑

Re: Nintendo Expands Switch 2's GameCube Library With Another Game

rjejr

@IronMan30 I got NSO+ for my kids for Hannukah last minute, $80 for 8 nights worked out to our usual $10/night. Haven't redeemed it yet, or the Kirby Forgotten Land dlc, b/c so much else to play. Still not convinced it's worth $80 but for the family we'll get some use out of it eventually.

Maybe if you start playing Mario Kart or Kirby Air Riders you can convince the missus you need it to play online? $50 solo is still cheaper than PSN or Xbox. Not as good as free PC online though.🤑

Good luck. I'm sure you'll figure it out.👍

Re: Rumour: Call Of Duty's Nintendo Release Is Apparently On Target For 2026

rjejr

If they've been making this ground up for the Switch 2 and skipped the Switch entirely I can see it turning out well enough looking at some of tye other Switch 2 games.

Not sure the Switch 2 has enough of an install base to resurrect sales on there unless cross play is available. They should have a few sales though. Not sure if it will be enough to keep the series going though. Interesting times.

Re: Video: It's Time To Say Goodbye To The Lovely Felix-From-Nintendo-Life

rjejr

@The_Nintendo_Expat Thanks for the reply and teh pic explanation. That guy is George Constanza for life, like it or not, and he sould be thankgul for it. I mean Danny Devito got the shorter ebnd of thestickin the looks dept, oun defintely intended, but ook at his career, Loue Deplama, Twins, Its Alwats Sunny. He;s just alwats going to be Constanza.

In the future all gaming will be Steamdeck, or there abouts. Why do I need a home console when my tablet or phone can do tv out wirelessly? Why does the Switch 2 even need a dock? I’m still not 100% sold on Cloud gaming but SD cards are a thing. Unless you;re Apple. Nintnedo will go 3rd party mobile just like everyone else.

Lots of talk lately over on PS about PS6. Unless we get 8k TVs nobody needs a PS6. And nobody needs an 8k tv, most tv is still 1090p.

Sorry about all the typos, new keyboard for my iPad for Christmas. Who needs a PC? Happy New Years. 🥂

Re: Got Yourself A New Nintendo Switch 2? Here's What To Do First

rjejr

Not a bad list but I prefer the layout from @Rhaoulos of the less obvious things to do. Or not to do as someone said about buying an SD card if you dont really need one, or tranfering stuff over if you re still going to play on your old Switch.

We got ours over the summer but just got tge NO+ for hanukah so I’ll be going over this stuff just to make sue we;re good. Already layed DKB, well not the seemingly overriced dlc, and MKW, but I did get my wife Echoes of Wisdowm for her birthday and my kids got Kirby Air Riders for Christmas. All our holidays are video game gifts.

Re: Round Up: Everything Announced At The Game Awards 2025 - All Switch 1 & 2 Reveals

rjejr

I didn't watch TGA, but reading everything here and on @Pushsquare I'm really not all that excited about anything in particular. I do want to play South of Mifnight but that’s about it.

Not that I’m not looking forward to any games, Yoshi and Splatoon Adventure on Switch 2, and Wolverine and FF7R Pt 3 on PS5, but that’s currently about it, and I haven’t seen any of those 4 mentioned in regards to last night.

Re: Mini Review: Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition - Now A Legit Contender For Mario's Karting Crown

rjejr

@dskatter Thanks for the PS5 comparison. I tried both the Switch demo - which looked like Skylanders Racing on Wii which is not a compliment - and the PS5 demo which I felt at least looked like a PS4 game. Not that there's really any noticeable difference between PS4 and PS5 games but I still think Disney Speedstorm looks much better and that's on PS5 so that's why. (DS is also in Switch 2 but I haven't tried it on there yet.) Too bad it's so pay to win I can't even recommend it to people but the game itself is currently my favorite racer. I stopped playing MKW after winning all the 50cc races, haven't even bothered w/ the open world.

But anyway it's good someone made the PS5 comparison, so thanks. 👍 I don't think I need another racer right now buy maybe some day.🤷‍♂️

Re: Nintendo's Shares Take A Tumble Amid Renewed Chip Shortage Worries

rjejr

NSO (2018) and NSO+ (2021) prices haven't changed ever, which is kind of unheard of fir basically anything these days, so I could see Nintendo raising them both next year. Would be a horrible way to celebrate the Switch 2 first anniversary but that's Nintendo logic for ya.

AI wiping out humanity b/c it needed more RAM chips is as good a reason as any I guess. 😩

Re: No Gravity Games Is Giving Away 10 Free Switch Games This Month (North America)

rjejr

@JimNorman "though you can check out last year's line-up to get an idea of what's in store."

This link goes to an article you wrote in December 2023, which I don't think was last year, but I've been calendar disoriented since 2020 so it might have been. What is time?🤷‍♂️

https://www.nintendolife.com/news/2023/12/no-gravity-games-wraps-up-winter-giveaway-with-final-two-free-switch-games-north-america

All 80 comments were from 2023 as well, I checked in case you just updated the article last year.

I've now spent more time on this than I will downloading any of these games.😂

Re: Take Yooka-Replaylee For A Spin In This New Switch 2 Demo

rjejr

If it's a demo of the 1st world that carries over that's a smart move on their part. I played the original game and from what I remember the 1st world was great, the 2nd world was good, the 3rd world was OK, the 4th world was broken and the 5th world wasn't a world, just a collection of stages.

That may have improved some of that in this but releasing a demo of the beginning of the game is smart.

Edit: My comments from 2017 of the PS4 version. 8 years ago. Wow.

"My kids and I played this on PS4 back in April, it was ok. Hub world was a mess, world 1 was great, 2 ok, 3 lame, 4 horrible and 5 a series of areas more than a world. I've read they've improved it a lot since then so hopefully it will review well on Switch."

Re: Talking Point: Six Months Since Launch, How Would You Rate Switch 2?

rjejr

I can't really have any regrets as my wife got the Switch 2 w/ MKW bundle and a 256GB micro card from her job as a 10 year anniversary bonus gift, so it's all good here.😁

That disclaimer out of the way I voted 7, good, b/c it is good. 👍

Pros -
DKB
MP4 looking good
Finally a new MK after 10 years
Several free game upgrades
Backwards compatibility
Hyrule Warriors

Cons -
$450 still seems a lot for what it is (ours doesn't leave the dock so it's competing for time w/ 5yo PS5)
MKW was underwhelming
$40 and $50 amiibo locking people out of parts of $70 games
$70 DKB has a $20 dlc immediately after launch, that's $100 for me after tax, so no dlc for us
$10 for a tutorial
Too many $20 upgrades

And why do we need so many apps? Just put everything in 1 app Nintendo.

I don't care about GKC, it's just a 4th way to buy games - physical, digitail, 1 time use code in a box, multiple use code on a cart. Doesn't affect my score either way.🤷‍♂️

I am looking forward to Yoshi and Splatoon adventure. Wish XCX got an upgrade as it's a fairly new re-release so Monolith probably should have had something ready day 1. Higher res, HDR, something.

Had I spent $500 on it I may have voted lower, 5 or 6, but maybe still a 7, who knows.

Re: Opinion: Kirby Air Riders & Inazuma Eleven: Victory Road Have Me Wishing For More Control Experimentation

rjejr

I thought the article was going to be about more control options to experiment with, something I think Sakurai made an effort to put into Kirby AR but Nintendo was like - our way or the highway - on MKW. I just can't play MKW, those button assignments don't work for me, and no jump button at all w/ all the jumping they expect you to do in game is just dumb.

My kid asked for Kirby AR for Christmas. I'll try out story mode and see how much control of the controls we have. If it's enough I'll play it.

Games should let us swap A & B though, cancel and select, after 28 years of PS gaming my thumb has that reflex built in. 😩

Re: Upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 Games & Accessories For December & January 2026

rjejr

Happy for all the people waiting a half (under 16) or a third (under 24) or a quarter (under 32) of their life for MP4, I know how happy I was when Bayonetta 3 finally released after having my preorder on Amazon for like 4 years.

Thinking about all the single 24yo guy's who watched this who now have a spouse, a house, and 2 kids and no time to play this.😂

Re: Anniversary: Monolith Soft Celebrates Xenoblade Chronicles 2 With A Post, But We're Desperate For A Switch 2 Revamp

rjejr

Wasn't the biggest fan of 2 but my kid got up to chapter 11 of X over the summer playing our Switch version on the Switch 2 so it would be nice to see an upgrade of that before they get home in 2 weeks and finally finish it. The Switch version is a nice little upgrade over the Wii U version, we have the Collectors Edition on Wii U, but surely they could get a little more out of it on Switch 2.

Re: Metroid Prime 4: Beyond Difficulty Settings Revealed By Nintendo

rjejr

Difficulty options are always good to have but unless there's also an option to play in 3rd person mode I'll probably skip it. It may not work well in 3rd person b/c of the visor but I just can't. I'll play Avatar instead, 34d person option gers added into that 1st person game in a few days. Of course I'll need to find the time. Thinking about it now that time probably isn't coming. Oh well.

Re: Metroid Prime 4: Beyond: amiibo Unlocks Revealed

rjejr

If you scan those 3 amiibo it should unlock the full game at those prices, and I'm not even joking.

I have the Samus EMMI 2 pack still unopened and I'm not opening it for a jingle. Nintendo is nuts. Like completely insane. They promoted these as "Buy 1 amiibo, use it in many games, unlike the others where it is 1 game per toy." And now they are doing just that. Only the $12 toys are now $40. GTFOOH.

Re: UK Charts: Kirby Air Riders Narrowly Misses Out On A Top Ten Spot

rjejr

Maybe if Nintendo had 1 more hour long Direct for it sales would have been better? 😂

Being behind 1 year old PS5 exclusive Astrobot can not feel good for the devs. And Kirby AR and HW:AoI both being so far down in sales can't feel good for Nintendo.

Though as long as the console sells for Pokémon and MKW maybe they don't care?

Curious to see how MP4 does in a couple of weeks.
