Which since it was 11 minutes later made me think it had gone through. Making me feel even worse after figuring out it hadn't. I guess the 1 good thing is I never told my wife, we had decided $500 was too much. I would have told her today had it gone through, she would have understood. She's not a big fan of all this jumping through hoops nonsense.ð

GTA6 probably won't release on Switch 2 but I'm not sure how well those games sell in Japan. I was really hoping we would have seen DQ12 on Switch 2 by now but I guess Squenix isn't ready to show it yet. The split in Japan for DQ12 between Switch 2 and PS5 could be interesting. I watched the ND and decided it cost too much money for a nice screen I'll never see b/c I only play docked and after 7 years what I really wanted most was a new 3D Mario game.

Not surprised. Switch is over 7 years old at this point. People have been waiting for Switch Pro for like 5 years. As expensive as this thing may seem people have probably saved up their money by now, waiting all these years. Maybe 3 years ago sales would have been lower. Or if MKW and DKB were dual releases like Sony and MS did for years. But Nintendo seems to know what "next gen" means. Sony said they knew, but didn't.
Fair. I think there was a lot of talk before the Switch 2 reveal on whether or not it would be technologically equal to or worse than Steam Deck, with not a lot of talk of whether it would be better than Steam Deck. I think this article clearly shows the tech and price are there.
Software is subjective for the most part, but it seems like Switch 2 does well there for the few games do far we've seen on both.
I'd actually like to see a similar article comparing Switch 2 to PS4 and PS5. I still think Switch 2 is somewhere between those 2, but if Nintendo Life is going to go all in on GFLOPS resolution and what not might as well cover all the basis.

Car movies can work though. "Smokey and the Bandit" is basically a car movie. "Death race 2000". Someone already mentioned "Cannonball Run". "The Muppet Movie" is one of the best car movies of all time.
I'm expecting this to be a remake of "It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World". That's old enough most people don't remember it, or even know about it, basically felt to me like the last of the Bob Hope & Bing Crosby road trip movies, w/o them actually being in it, though everyone else was. It's possible this was remade 15 or 20 years ago but I can't recall the name.

So while I think the Switch 2 hardware is up to the task maybe Nintendo isn't, for a variety of reasons.
If PS4 is still getting these then it should be no problem for Switch 2 to get that version. If they recently stopped releasing it on PS4 then they could move that team and version to Switch 2.

@Suketoudara To everything you said: It's a $500 "toy" they are launching in June. Kids aren't buying it and kids aren't getting it until Christmas. Nintendo released a $199 Switch Lite for kids, this is 2.5x that. And there is 1 kid in the commercial, so they didn't make it an adults only ad. Parents buy it but they can also play with their kids.

@AverageGamer The Nintendo deal w/ MS was reported in December 2022. 2022 makes it 3 years in my head since we're now well into 2025 but you're right, closer to 2 1/2.
The deal w/ Sony was only announced in July on 2023, which feels more like 2 years, even if less than 2 years by a few months. If you're going by the Sony date then yes I would be way off on saying 3 years as it's not even 2 years yet.

If things continue on Switch 2 and PS5 like they did on Switch and PS4 Sony will put this game on sale on PS5 just as it releases on Switch 2. Still waiting for a sale to pick ot up and play with my wife. Currently half way through Cat Quest 3 and waiting for the Sea Stars dlc to release "this spring".
It is nice to see the same price. This game is new enough, unlike some full priced 8 year old games, where $50 seems very reasonable.

I think that's what I was thinking as well, if I'm reading you right. While everyone seems to think Sony messed up by this post Switch 2 pricing move I think it's very possible Sony was already thinking about the price wondering how high they could go based on the Switch 2 price. The majority seemed to think Switch 2 would be $399 US, $100 more than the Switch base model, $50 more than OLED, which would leave Sony in a bind. When Sony saw the $449 US price they were probably like, in the words of gamers everywhere, "Let's gooooooo!!".
There was no reason for Sony to leave it's obvious to anyone more powerful console cheaper than a Switch 2. Unless Switch 2 gets GTA 6, which I doubt, PS5 will sell when that game releases. Not by me, not my thing, but it will move consoles. At any price. See PS5 Pro.
I still think XCX is the best feeling world and game engine on Wii U and I really wish they would gave lent it out to Gamefreak to make a PokÃĐmon game or something. I know Legend of Arceus was nice and all but it didn't have a world like XCX.
Still weird to read an article like this and not see Skyrim or The Witcher 3 mentioned. Skyrim was as empty as BotW but it was still first, and The Witcher 3, also before BotW, was a lot more full of...everything. Elden Ring does have the best horse though, will never be beat. Really wish they would add difficulty options so more people could play it. Great game.

The camera quality necessary to get 8fps should probably be a pack in with Mario Party Jamboree, for maybe an extra $10 on the price. Can't pack it in w/ Mario Kart World as the $80 is already freaking people out. That, and I really don't see why you would want a camera feed in a racing game anyway, just focus on the track.

I don't know anything pre PS1 gen in the late 90s but I know Nintendo consoles tender to be cheaper. I know the Wii sold a lot b/c it came bundled w/ Wii Sports at a price people could afford compared to the $500 PS3. Sony really lost the plot that gen.
This gen is a bit weird b/c Switch 2 hardware needs to be Co,pared to dissimilar hardware as there really are no other tribrids. Steamdeck and Asus Rog on the portable side, PS5 and Xboxen on the other.
I do think for a handheld the price and hardware is competitive and it's a win. For a home console gamer the PS5 (not the elitist Pro) and Xboxen are probably better values. And there were so many people on here saying "Well at least Switch 2 is cheaper than a PS5." No it isn't, PS5 digital is cheaper.
Last comparison is w/ previous Nintendo hardware. Wii, Wii U, Switch are all around $299 at launch. That's a very consistent launch price. Now Switch 2 is $150 more, 50%. After 8 years of tech improvements since the Switch launched at $299 should we really expect similar hardware to be 50% more or should we expect it to be about the same? ðĪ·ââïļ

I'm sure there are other methods of scalping, but for physical products eBay is a big one. First. That 40 day pre-order is backwards. You shouldn't be able to sell any new products on eBay for the first 30 days should be banned. And you need proof of ownership. Either a Pic of the product of a scan of the receipt.
And you really don't need a second. Even if that 30 days of no sale is illegal somehow, surely eBay could limit listings to product in hand. Which honestly I thought they already did. This 40 days for a preorders is news to me.

Fair. I think there was a lot of talk before the Switch 2 reveal on whether or not it would be technologically equal to or worse than Steam Deck, with not a lot of talk of whether it would be better than Steam Deck. I think this article clearly shows the tech and price are there.
Software is subjective for the most part, but it seems like Switch 2 does well there for the few games do far we've seen on both.
I'd actually like to see a similar article comparing Switch 2 to PS4 and PS5. I still think Switch 2 is somewhere between those 2, but if Nintendo Life is going to go all in on GFLOPS resolution and what not might as well cover all the basis.

Car movies can work though. "Smokey and the Bandit" is basically a car movie. "Death race 2000". Someone already mentioned "Cannonball Run". "The Muppet Movie" is one of the best car movies of all time.
I'm expecting this to be a remake of "It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World". That's old enough most people don't remember it, or even know about it, basically felt to me like the last of the Bob Hope & Bing Crosby road trip movies, w/o them actually being in it, though everyone else was. It's possible this was remade 15 or 20 years ago but I can't recall the name.
Maybe they'll call it "It's Outrun" as an homage. Anyway that's my guess, screwball comedy. Which means Michael Bay is the wrong director, but isn't he always.ð

Destiny 2 is about over I think, no reason for that to show up now. Marathon I thought was PS5 only b/c it's Bungie who Sony bought. Though I could be wrong.
Wifi could be an issue for a handheld as well. Could be different reasons for each game or company, but I do feel like a more of them are silent than talking about releasing on Switch 2.

So while I think the Switch 2 hardware is up to the task maybe Nintendo isn't, for a variety of reasons.

I feel like this is the first time I know for certain there are no magnets in the Joycon, they are in the Switch 2 and the Joycon are metal.
Also the first time I know for sure the "release" button isn't undoing a latch to let go of the Switch 2 but literally a pin forcing the Joycon away. They must be some seriously strong magnets.

Watched it and the original last night on YT. Good job on Nintendo getting Rudd back. And if you want the Switch 2 to look cheap, compare the prices of SNES and Switch 2 to what Rudd was paid in 1991 and 2025. I'm guessing he got at least 100x more even if he worked for scale.ð
@Suketoudara To everything you said: It's a $500 "toy" they are launching in June. Kids aren't buying it and kids aren't getting it until Christmas. Nintendo released a $199 Switch Lite for kids, this is 2.5x that. And there is 1 kid in the commercial, so they didn't make it an adults only ad. Parents buy it but they can also play with their kids.

@JaxonH Hey Uncle Jax, no one is going to be arguing amiibo prices with you. ð I may have been wrong about the $9.99 ones, I know I've seen the Goomba at that price but it may have been discounted or on sale. Most of ours were purchased on sale, $5 Below had a lot, and some Toys R Us going out of business sale, but I still usually pay attention to the regular price. $29.99 is never going to happen.
Of course nowadays people spend like $1,800 for Stellar Blade models so I guess we should be happy for the $30.ðĪ

I think the Switch 2 is overpriced but am planning now on trying to get 1 anyway b/c it does feel like the price will only go up.

If things continue on Switch 2 and PS5 like they did on Switch and PS4 Sony will put this game on sale on PS5 just as it releases on Switch 2. Still waiting for a sale to pick ot up and play with my wife. Currently half way through Cat Quest 3 and waiting for the Sea Stars dlc to release "this spring".
It is nice to see the same price. This game is new enough, unlike some full priced 8 year old games, where $50 seems very reasonable.

I think that's what I was thinking as well, if I'm reading you right. While everyone seems to think Sony messed up by this post Switch 2 pricing move I think it's very possible Sony was already thinking about the price wondering how high they could go based on the Switch 2 price. The majority seemed to think Switch 2 would be $399 US, $100 more than the Switch base model, $50 more than OLED, which would leave Sony in a bind. When Sony saw the $449 US price they were probably like, in the words of gamers everywhere, "Let's gooooooo!!".
There was no reason for Sony to leave it's obvious to anyone more powerful console cheaper than a Switch 2. Unless Switch 2 gets GTA 6, which I doubt, PS5 will sell when that game releases. Not by me, not my thing, but it will move consoles. At any price. See PS5 Pro.

I still think XCX is the best feeling world and game engine on Wii U and I really wish they would gave lent it out to Gamefreak to make a PokÃĐmon game or something. I know Legend of Arceus was nice and all but it didn't have a world like XCX.
Still weird to read an article like this and not see Skyrim or The Witcher 3 mentioned. Skyrim was as empty as BotW but it was still first, and The Witcher 3, also before BotW, was a lot more full of...everything. Elden Ring does have the best horse though, will never be beat. Really wish they would add difficulty options so more people could play it. Great game.

@Zaruboggan Obviously the camera can do more than 8fps. I doubt Nintendo could pay any company in 2025 to make a camera that would max out at 8fps. But if the Switch 2 is limiting the camera to 8fps for the sake of games, as it should, is that camera really worth $50? ðĪ·ââïļ
The camera quality necessary to get 8fps should probably be a pack in with Mario Party Jamboree, for maybe an extra $10 on the price. Can't pack it in w/ Mario Kart World as the $80 is already freaking people out. That, and I really don't see why you would want a camera feed in a racing game anyway, just focus on the track.
Glad I don't have to think about it. I burned myself out on camera games back in the PS3 days.

FOMO isn't strong enough to make me put in the work but if a retailer like Best Buy or Target sent me a pre-order email I'd probably click on yes, just b/c I could. Regret might come later but I'd be buying myself the peace of mind to not think about it any more.ð

I don't know anything pre PS1 gen in the late 90s but I know Nintendo consoles tender to be cheaper. I know the Wii sold a lot b/c it came bundled w/ Wii Sports at a price people could afford compared to the $500 PS3. Sony really lost the plot that gen.
This gen is a bit weird b/c Switch 2 hardware needs to be Co,pared to dissimilar hardware as there really are no other tribrids. Steamdeck and Asus Rog on the portable side, PS5 and Xboxen on the other.
I do think for a handheld the price and hardware is competitive and it's a win. For a home console gamer the PS5 (not the elitist Pro) and Xboxen are probably better values. And there were so many people on here saying "Well at least Switch 2 is cheaper than a PS5." No it isn't, PS5 digital is cheaper.
Last comparison is w/ previous Nintendo hardware. Wii, Wii U, Switch are all around $299 at launch. That's a very consistent launch price. Now Switch 2 is $150 more, 50%. After 8 years of tech improvements since the Switch launched at $299 should we really expect similar hardware to be 50% more or should we expect it to be about the same? ðĪ·ââïļ

I'm sure there are other methods of scalping, but for physical products eBay is a big one. So if governments were serious about stopping scalping, which they obviously aren't, then all they would have to do is regulate eBay.
First. That 40 day pre-order is backwards. You shouldn't be able to sell any new products on eBay for the first 30 days should be banned. And you need proof of ownership. Either a Pic of the product of a scan of the receipt.
And you really don't need a second. Even if that 30 days of no sale is illegal somehow, surely eBay could limit listings to product in hand. Which honestly I thought they already did. This 40 days for a preorders is news to me.
If eBay stopped preorders would someone replace them? Maybe. I'm still waiting for someone to replace Twitter, Facebook, Amazon and Google.ð
