Re: Free-To-Play Racer Asphalt Legends Gets A Nintendo Switch 2 Edition

rjejr

@Liam_Doolan Thanks, for all of that, makes sense. I've been playing Speedstorm pretty much every day since launch, minus a few months when they turned the game more into a trial and pay to win mess. I mean it's still a pay to win mess, the worst I've ever seen, but I'm still playing for free so why should I get so upset over it? It's still the best feeling racer I've ever played and it's help me quit Fortnite after 3+ years. Just sucks that they've gone so pay to win. Or just pay to play really.🤑

Re: 'Can You Use Labo VR Goggles For Virtual Boy Games On Switch?' & Other Nintendo Classics VB Questions Answered

rjejr

Hey @dartmonkey you guys got a tutorial on how to use app on Switch? I played a game of pinball for 18 seconds and scored like 188,000 and got the Game Over screen then tried every combination of buttons I could think of to try another of the 6 or 7 VR games but I couldn’t get anything to work besides the Home button, which made me take the Switch out of the Labo headset to hit the Close button and then I didn’t feel like putting it back in the Labo. 😝

@AussieMcBucket tomato tomatoe 😆

VR on the pinball game reminded me of those cheap plastic boxes I put on my phone a decade ago. Looked pretty good but Idon’t want to play it for long. On the bright side it’s a lot easier to set up than the PSVR headset, which I won’t hook back up after moving rooms b/c wires. Endless wires. I do wan to finish Astrobot Rescue Mission though, so it’ sa conundrum.

This was free for me. Can’t complain for free I guess. Would like to be able to play more than 1 game though.

Re: Free-To-Play Racer Asphalt Legends Gets A Nintendo Switch 2 Edition

rjejr

@Liam_Doolan Just out of curiosity, is there a reason you mention Disney Dreamlight Valley and Gear Club Racing in this article about a Game loft racing game, but you didn't mention Gamelofts other mobile racing game already on Switch 2, Disney Speedstorm?

I've been playing Speedstorm since launch, on PS5, but I've been meaning to give it a go on Switch 2. Reading all the other comments about Switch 2 games not having cross play means it won't matter though.

These screenshots look fairly meh so I'll just keep playing way over monetized Speedstorm.🤑

Re: Back Page: The Best Horses On The Nintendo Switch

rjejr

@Thomystic That was my reaction as well. I only even read the article b/c I figured it had to be Kate. 👍

Torrent is my favorite horse in any game even if it isn't technically a horse. I mean I always thought it was before reading this article but I guess I was wrong.

My mea culpa out of the way Torrent is the best. You sum on it and you're on it. It can double jump like nobody's business and it usually won't jump off a cliff it can't survive. My favorite part of Elden Ring. I probably wouldn't have put about 200 hours into the game if it weren't for Torrent to the rescue.

Roach was just a hilarious broken mess who would break in all kinds of ridiculous ways.😂

Re: PSA: Watch The First Super Mario Movie For Free, Before Galaxy Arrives (US)

rjejr

@Joekun Laughs in Lightyear. 😂

Budget. $200 million
Box office $226.4 million[2][3]

A billion $ is a billion $. 🤷‍♂️

Mario is a movie about a wall-jumping plumber fighting a giant fire breathing turtle. You can't get Casablanca out of that. But you can not be Lightyear. 😎

I wasn't thrilled about Illumination either, I've never watched anything Despicable Me related, but the Mario movie was fine. Even with Chris Pratt and Jack Black, neither of which I would have chosen, it was fine. It wasn't Borderlands or Monster Hunter unwatchable. It was a video game intro cut scene, no more, no less. Could have been so much worse. I haven't even watched Minecraft yet.😝

Re: Square Enix Reveals Save Data Bonuses For Its New HD-2D Game

rjejr

This is the first I can recall reading Various Day life. Haven't played any of the others. If only Squenix had some other titles on Switch 2 like, oh I don't know, FF7 Remake and Rebirth maybe.

A Switch 2 update for DQ11 would be nice, maybe get it closer to the last PS5 version?

Re: Jigglypuff Is Joined By Up-And-Comer Lady Gaga In Pokémon's Super Bowl Ad

rjejr

Was surprised by the ad in the game last night, didn't think Pokémon would go that big. Big night for Lady Gaga as well as she got Jibblypuff and Bad Bunny.

Can't believe it's been 10 years already since the last big anniversary, I really like that logo Pic w/ all the Pokémon. 30 years is impressive for staying so pop culturally relevant. They outlived Ash.

Re: Nintendo Showcases Every Switch And Switch 2 Partner Direct Game In New Infographic

rjejr

Orbital is the one must play for me, Granblue Fantasy looks good as well and I feel good about it's big update probably being it's last big thing. Pragmata releasing on Switch 2 is a big deal but I'm still not sure it's for me.

I was surprised how many Switch 2 games were are on. I don't think all the people disappointed with the Direct appreciate how many next Gen games there are in it's first year. Go look at the Xbox Series X/S, I don't think it had any exclusives at all for a year or 2 or 3 that weren't also on Xboxen 1. And the PS5 had mostly dual releases with PS4 for it's first couple of years as well.

So if you owned a Switch and recently bought a Switch 2 there are at least 2 dozen games you can only play on your new console. That's fairly impressive in this video game environment where generations don't seem to matter anymore.

Re: Nintendo Direct Partner Showcase February 2026: Every Announcement, Game Reveal, Trailer

rjejr

I voted 10 which is crazy for me b/c I usually hate all of these things and am bored out of my mind. I don’t even watch the games award anymore b/c it’s so boring. So you can only imagine my surprise when I enjoyed most of it. And the most was good enough for me to give it a 10, Isuppose in part b/c I have such low expectations going in.

Orbital was a great opening, always on the lookout for more couch co-op games. Then they lost me for a bit as I thought “Why not just call this an indie Direct all of these look like indie games.” Then they started showing stuff like FF7 Rebirth, Resident Evil, and all of the Bethesda games, and I as thoroughly impressed.
Will I play most of these games? Probably not. And the ones I do will probably be on PS5 b/c why wouldn’t I? But it was an entertaining 30 minutes for a partner direct. I don’t think there was a single farm sim. Can you imagine that, a Direct w/o numerous farm sims? It boggles the ind. Disney Dream Valley is close, but it’s more a Disney thing than a farming thing to me.

Not sure what you were all expecting. Clair Obscur is made by a really small team, give them time, and the console is stil less than a year old. I was expecting Duskblood, so that was a bummer, but I didn’t really miss it during the show.

Re: Oblivion, Skyrim And Fallout Switch 2 Physicals Will All Be Code-In-A-Box, Bethesda Confirms

rjejr

I’ve accepted GKC after some initial repulsion as making due with a bad situation but a code in a box is utter trash, borderline lying to the consumer.

I’m ok w/ a code on a card, lots of people get store gift cards and sore credit add may want to pay in cash, so a little piece of plastic w/ a code can workout for some people, but the box does seem both misleading and a waste.

Re: PSA: Final Fantasy VII Rebirth Is Surprisingly Cheap On The UK eShop Right Now

rjejr

@Gamer83 We really dont double dip. Not even Wii Ugames, which we own dozens of, but on Switch, where we only own like 1 dozen games b/c we already owned them all of Wii U. Oh wait, we did double dip on XCX b/c we all wanted to see the new ending as the original game had a big cliff hanging ending. Didn’t really help though.

The money I save from not double dipping means I get to buy both Sony and Nintnedo consoles, even bought an Xbox 1 nice one for like 3 games - Rare Repaly, Gears of War trilogy, and Sunset Overdirve - (technically I suppose that’s like a dozen games) so I suppose I see Nintnedo as the first party console, everything else on PS5. And as expensive as Switch 2 is, and 4k TVs are, might as well pony up for a PS5 if you want to play all the games they showed today. Probably why so many people already own both.

@Friendly Can you fit all 3 FF7 games along with several other probably large Game Key Card 3rd party games onto a 256GB SD MicroExpress card ? If you’re like a lot of people deleteing stuff then it’s probably enough space along w/ the intenral 256GB. But if you read enough of these comments you’ll see people routinely, as in more than I would have thought, paying like $200 for a 1TB card. For $200 for memory, plus how much better the games will look and play on a big screen 4k tv, plus the savings you’ll probably get on Sony sales vs Nintendo sales, then I think you do reach a point where gamers should be thinking about it yeah. I probably should have mentioned the $200 1TB SD card price in my original post though. I’ve seen 512GB cards for $150, even then I’d think about it.

So no, maybe not a PS5 instead of a $40 card, but a PS5 instead of a $200 card for the same amount of storage, cheaper games, and better looking, better running, games. Then I think it’s worth a thought. Not a PS5 Pro though, those are insanely expensive and no disc drive.

Re: PSA: Final Fantasy VII Rebirth Is Surprisingly Cheap On The UK eShop Right Now

rjejr

With the cost of SD Express memory cards needed for people who want to play a bunch of the 3rd party ports in today's Direct, the really big AAA ones that you just know will be GKC, like this, and probably the big Bethesda games, and the RE games, may I suggest buying a PS5 instead. Well if you're playing on a 4k TV, if you're mostly handheld Switch 2 it is.

I know PS5 has storage limitations as well, Sony even dropped 1 model from 1TB down to 800GB b/c greed, but PS still has better sales, after 5 or 6 games you'll probably break even, and the games will look and play better on your big screen 4k TV. It's probably worth a thought.

If you only want 1 or 2 AAA ports I wouldn't do it either, but 5 or 6 just in this Direct alone? Maybe it's worth it. 🤷‍♂️ Granbkue Fantasy Relink was on PS+ already.

On topic: This game, to me, was so much better than Remake. Like, in my head they aren't even comparable. Part 1 is a small mission based dungeon crawler, part 2 is a full blown open world JRPG. Queens blood alone, and the Gilgamesh quest, have almost as much going on. There is some overly annoying padding, but it just adds to the charm of the JRPG genre.

Spoiler alert - this is part 2 of 3, expect it to end, or not, as such.

Re: Talking Point: Nintendo Direct February Partner Predictions - What Do You Want To See?

rjejr

Surprising lack of Microsoft Xbox games on the list considering they're basically going 3rd party these days. There's several to choose from - CoD, South of Midnight, Indiana Jones, Stzrfield, Forza, Halo, GoW. Unless Nintendo Life knows something we don't. Or at least I don't. 🤷‍♂️

I chose Clair Obscur and FF7 Rebirth just for fun.

Dragon Quest 12 is due. Way over due, it was announced like 4 years ago.😩 DQ11 was a 3DS game, it's time to show the new one.

Re: Labo VR Will Reportedly Be Compatible With Virtual Boy For Switch Online

rjejr

Wasn't really all that interested but since we own a Labo VR headset and just signed up for a year of NO+ might as well try them out.

Though my Switch keeps locking up after 20 minutes and both my left Joycon drift a lot but I'll give it a go. Maybe my kid will let me borrow his.

But I doubt I'll play it for more than a few minutes anyway, I still haven't finished Astrobot Rescue Mission, 3D just really isn't for me. But I'll try every game just in case 1 clicks.

Re: Preview: Five Takeaways From My Time With Virtual Boy On Nintendo Switch Online

rjejr

Nintendo sold a $100 NES Mini with like 20 games and a $100 SNES Mini with like 20 games and now they're selling a $100 VB with 0 games and no controllers but you can pay $50 every year to rent games on it.

Do you also need a Switch or Switch 2? Forgot about that cost compared to the Minis which were self contained consoles.

I suppose the Wii Balance Board cost $80 but I think that came with a game. This VB headset really should at least come with 1 month of NSO+ included.

Re: Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds Fails To Meets Sega's Expectations

rjejr

@orbots No one will play offline with me, it's such a bummer. I did just figure out I can play the track configurations to figure them out, the new zzootopia track is kinda crazy.

The pay to play is rough though. I do think thry added level caps to the multiplayer to help balance things out a bit, which was nice, but some of the "sale" items are like $99 for 1 character. An entire game should only cost $60, how can 1 character cost $99?!?! So it's a great playing racing game, but I can't recommend it to anyone now. Back when each season cost 999 tokens it was a little fairer. Not now, it really is insane. Sad face emoji.😢

@romanista Did not know that about the IOC but it makes sense as every big organization these days just seems all about the money. Oh and corrupt.🤑

Re: Talking Point: Where's Your Nintendo Labo Now?

rjejr

I bought a big 4 shelf unit to store them all on behind our TV. The VR kit was legit and I also enjoyed my time with the vehicle kit, both were fun games beyond building them. The variety pack games were really just tutorial type stuff. I bought the robot for my godson/nephew and I think he built it and played it but I honestly can't recall.

It's too bad they don't support them in newer games, like the steering wheel for Mario Kart World. VR should work for Virtual Boy but it's possible Nintendo planned to make those Switch 2 exclusive so no point?

I'm done buying physical stuff though. If it works I'll use it but otherwise I'll pass. I just can't wrap my head around spending $100 on a bit of plastic that requires a $50 a year subscription to use. That makes no sense. For $100 it should include 1 year of NO+.

Re: Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds Fails To Meets Sega's Expectations

rjejr

Maybe people are just done with Sonic Racing games? Not everyone obviously, 2 million people are still someone, but they stopped making Mario & Sonic Olympic games for a reason.

On the Switch side that demo was ugly, barely a Wii game, and Switch 2 had MKW. And Playstation just got Forza for the first time.

And Sonic games tend to drop to half price in like 6 months. And with the slow drip of content why pay full price at release?

I've been playing Disney Speedstorm for about 30 minutes a day for 2 years. It looks and controls way better than Sonic on PS5. It's a shame I can't recommend it b/c the pay to win is off the charts insane, but it's free for me being there since say 1, so I don't need Sonic right now.

Some day Speedstorm and Sonic support will end, then I'll pick up Crossworld's Complete for like $20.

Re: ICYMI: Paper Mario-Styled RPG 'Escape From Ever After' Has Launched On Switch

rjejr

I played Bug Fables for a couple hours after reading all the "it's Paper Mario" reviews and the game didn't really work for me, I had no fun at all. So I'll wait awhile on this one, at least until my 1 year of NSO+ expires in 11 months, there's a surprising amount of games on there I want to play. I only sighed up for my kids to play the 3 Mario Party games online with their friends.

Re: Upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 Games & Accessories For February & March 2026

rjejr

Game selection aside, not really a whole lot to my tastes the next couple of months while we wait for Yoshi, I'm having a hard time getting past all for these $70 and $80 price tags, especially for games that look like they'd belong on the PS2 or 3DS. I'm just old I guess, everything after $49.99 just looks like a lot to me for anything other than top tier AAA games. But even those should probably still be $60. Looking at $80 for a couple of years old 2D Mario game hurts my brain.

I may play DQ7 some day, probably for like $20 on PS5, and maybe MHS3 for like $30 on sale some day. I want Yoshi day 1 but probably $70 for a 12 hour game is giving me pause there as well. 🤑

Re: Poll: What Nintendo Switch 2 Games Are You Most Excited For In 2026?

rjejr

What is up with the design of this poll? Not a fan, not a fan at all. I kept clicking back and forth between Yoshi and Splatoon Raiders trying to get them both highlighted at the same time. And I feel like Duskbloods got shortchanged not being on the very short list.

Yoshi and Splatoon Raiders for me. Everything else I usually get on PS5. Would be nice for Switch 2 owners if FF 7 part 2 Rebirth makes it in 2026 though, great game.

Would also be great if we got a new Monolith JRPG for the holiday but that's probably asking for too much so maybe 2027.

Re: Rumour: A Nintendo Direct May Be Coming As Soon As Next Week

rjejr

@neogyo I always forget about Duskbloods b/c it ain't my thing but my kid is looking forward to it and would be happy just for a release date for that. I'd rather they close with something like that then an old port.

Who knows, whole show could just be Xbox games. CoD has to release eventually.

Re: Rumour: A Nintendo Direct May Be Coming As Soon As Next Week

rjejr

Port Showcase

I mean I'm all for 3rd party ports for people who don't own other consoles or gaming PCs but if Nintendo is putting out a Direct there should be an exclusive or 2, some simultaneous releases of new games and maybe something we know about but haven't seen yet like DQ 12, FF7 Part 3 or the next Elder scrolls.

So sure, ports are welcome, but a Partner showcase needs more than just old games.

Re: Rumour: Switch Online GameCube Releases Might Have Been Leaked

rjejr

Not interested in the 2 rumored games but I would play Sunshine again. Does the new $90 Switch 2 Pro controller have analog triggers? For $90 it should.

Edit: Just picked it up and tried it, triggers felt very digital. For $90 that’s criminal. Rest of the controller feels sweet but they sold the system with Mario Mart and couldn’t give us analog gas and drift? 😝

Re: Feature: "Demoralisation Is A Strong Word, But It Accurately Describes The Situation" - Why Do So Many Games Get Delayed?

rjejr

Video game delays have been a thing for at least 20 years. At this point the industry obviously doesn’t care b/c people keep buying the games anyway. So they lie. At this point it’s fairly obvious and we all know it, a lot of early release dates are just flat out lies. Why shouldn’t they lie, there’s no downside. Is GTA 6 going to flop b/c of all of its delays? Delays are never going away. What should go away is us stop calling them delays and just start referring to them as lies. It’s not really a delay when they’re lying now is it?

Oh and I said 20 years of delays b/c my most egregious 1 is still Reggie at E3 in 2007. Reggie didn’t just come out and say “Super Smash Bros later this year”. No, Reggie had to go the whole extra mile and xmpahsis - When can you expect the new Smash game? Well, not next year, not next winter, the game will release this December 3rd.

And then in Oct the game got delayed until January, and then later on it got delayed yet again to March. So Reggie was very very wrong. And this was from Nintnedo in it’s glory Wii days, not some small inde trying too pay the bills. They lie, b/c they can.

https://www.nintendolife.com/news/2007/07/e3_2007_super_smash_bros_brawl

Second worst game delay is FF15. Squenix had a live on stage event w/ an orchestra to announce the release date for FF15. Not announce the game, just the release date. And several months after that huge live on stage event to announce the release date, they delayed the game. It’s all lies.

Re: Mario Wonder's 'Real' Talking Flower Sounds Both Charming And Irritating

rjejr

@ButterySmooth30FPS Before my time. I only got into Nintendo when the GameCube hit $99 and Players Choice games were $20. So long ago. Though not nearly as long as S/NES. I can barely stand to look at those games on the NO+ service. GameCube games still hold up. Even my wife was impressed by how good they still look. We’re not getting any talking flowers though.😂

Re: Super Mario Bros. Wonder + Meetup In Bellabel Park Arrives On Switch 2 In March

rjejr

@darkswabber “ new story mode with new levels about the koopalings, it has new wonder effects, new powerups, and seemingly 7 new boss battles”

Thanks. I wasn’t feeling this at all, but your summary reminded me of the Bowsers Fury not dlc add-on for whatever that game was. We borrowed it from the library, was a fun little 5 or 6 hours. I wouldn’t repurchase Wonder again, bought it and played it day 1, but for $20 I’d play some more levels. Don’t need the co-op, we just signed up for NO+ and have 3 new to us Mario Party games to play. I really wish they added more of this stuff to Plus like they did MK8 and ACNL. But $20 I can spare.

I suppose Nintendo will keep pumping these $20 upgrades out expecting us to be thankful we don’t have to buy the game again like we did from Wii U to Switch. 🤑

Re: Super Mario Bros. Wonder Is Getting A Trio Of New amiibo

rjejr

That Captain Toad amiibo feels about a decade too late, whenever his game came out on Wii U.

I have played the game when it released day 1 and that middle amiibo is barely registering as a character.

Elephant amiibo seems like a gag Christmas gift. You know, b/c white elephant.😂

Have the prices hit quad 9s yet.🤑

Re: Round Up: The Reviews Are In For Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade On Switch 2

rjejr

Final Fantasy Remake 6 7 😂

I’m glad it came to Switch 2, that it’s reviewing well, and was shocked to only just now find out it’s only $39.99 for the full PS5 game, but I guess as an old guy who played FF7 at release and I consider it 1 of my favorite JRPG of all time, well Remake just wasn’t working for me.

Full disclosure, I haven’t played it. I watched my 1 kid play the PS4 version while my other kid was in college then watched that kid play the PS5 version while the other kid was in college. And I found it lacking. Not bad. 6/7. But not living up to the hype. And while I didn’t really notice much difference between the 2 versions I will say I think I liked the Yuffie dlc more than the main game, so it’s great the Switch 2 version is getting that included at release.

I will recommend it for $40 though, not b/c I liked it all that much, but b/c part 2 Rebirth is that good. Rebirth is a full blown all out great JRPG with everything you’d expect. And while I don’t think you actually need to play Remake to play Rebirth, stats or the save file don’t carry over, they are separate games, it’s probably for the best that you do.

Last point. I purchased FF7 Rebirth on PS5, after already watching my kid play the PS4 version we borrowed from the library as it was linear and short enough, in part b/c it included Remake Intergrade for free as a preorder bonus. So before you spend $40 on a game that only exists as a prequel, maybe wait until Rebirth gets released on Switch 2, maybe they’ll do a bundle. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Re: Kirby Air Riders Is Getting Its First Update Of 2026 "Soon"

rjejr

“ Although this might be one of the last significant updates for Kirby Air Riders “

Fixing bugs that should have been fixed before the game went gold and balance adjustments is considered a significant update now? I suppose if they change the logo on the Switch 2 home menu we’d consider that an earth shattering addition to the game?
