I thought the article was going to be about more control options to experiment with, something I think Sakurai made an effort to put into Kirby AR but Nintendo was like - our way or the highway - on MKW. I just can't play MKW, those button assignments don't work for me, and no jump button at all w/ all the jumping they expect you to do in game is just dumb.
My kid asked for Kirby AR for Christmas. I'll try out story mode and see how much control of the controls we have. If it's enough I'll play it.

Not saying people should, but it might be worth doing the math. For a $199 SD card you can buy a fully functioning Switch Lite.
@westman98 Apologies for replying to a 2 month old post but thanks for laying this list of Nintendo games out so clearly. For the first time in my long life of gaming I've been interested in a game, then saw the price, then thought, woah that might be too cheap for me. For $20 I'm afraid it's either going to be drivel, an hour long, or both.
If it's at least 6-8 hours long and reviews at least a 6 I'll pick it up to play w/ my family over the holiday break. But I'm not optimistic.
Kinda feel sad for all these gamers who can't play a couch co-op game b/c they have no one to play with.π’
@OldGamer999 @IronMan30 You can spend $200 on a 1TB SD card to fit the 3 F7R games, or you can spend an additional $200 and buy 1TB of storage and the rest of the PS5. Probably get all 3 games for far cheaper than on Switch 2 as well. We'll the 3rd game will be at least $70 on both but 1 & 2 will save you some cash.
Obviously PS5 won't get you handheld play but if you're planning to play all 3 FF7R games on Switch 2 it might seriously be worth looking into a PS5. They'll probably look better on there as well.π€·ββοΈ
That's how ridiculously expensive gaming has gotten. Costs like $900 to play 1 remade PS1 game.π€
I agree with all the bad reviews. The difference is probably for the best as I think this game is for the ADHD crowd who found MKW too boring. I mean MKW is too boring, which is why I quit playing that after about a week. But I think Kirby Air Riders is for people who want to play this game while streaming it on Twitch while simultaneously also watching other people stream it on Twitch. The chaos seems like the point.
I'll keep playing Disney Speedstorm, it's just racing, and playing fun games like DK Bananza. That's enough for now. Glad the chaotic kids can have some fun now too.
"Donkey Kong Bananza's Next DLC In-Game Event Swings Into Action Next Week"
Thanks for putting DLC in the title, appreciate it so I know it's not for the people who paid $70 for the game, just those who paid an additional $20 to get the part of the game called Emerald Rush. Including the long name of the DLC would make for a really long article title.
"Donkey Kong Bananza: DK Island and Emerald Rush's Next In-Game Event Swings Into Action Next Week"
Didn't recognize the author's name, and it was a really good and interesting read. I thought it was an imaginary fever dream until I started clicking on the numerous links. Good way to start a Monday. π
Congrats to NL for keeping the comments open on this one, I'm gonna cut you guys some slack for awhile as my way of saying thanks.π
Unless Nintendo starts giving away the tutorial I can see myself playing on Switch 2 for years and never using mouse mode. I kind of forget it's a thing. Though to be fair I don't play FPS, not even MP4, more of a JRPG guy, so I really don't need it.
I'm normally a wired guy but I ran out of ports on my router. So I bought a 2-1 splitter and hooked up another old router that I dumbed down to a hub, and I still don't have enough ports for Switch 2. The only thing I use Switch 2 for us DK Bananza that I bought on cart. The wifi is working as the news updates but don't think I use it enough to worry about wiring it.
I think in another 10-12 years wireless should be good enough for everything, even home internet. And then the human race will go sterile and we'll all wonder why. π€£
Does the Switch version still play like a mobile game? I played for a month on Apple Arcade, had a free trial, and while I enjoyed it, almost every quest ending with someone saying "come back tomorrow" was getting old. And all the limited items, and limited traded. The game punishes you fir trying to play more than 30 minutes a day.
I do want to finish it though. I'm halfway through the clouds, the flower field cave, the city, and the heart. I probably should have just paid for another month of Arcade and finished it but the daily ring wore me out.
I can't even say it was a bad game. If you watch a video of this game and occasionally hit the pause button that's as much playing the game as actually playing the game. I got my money's worth buying it on clearance at TR Us and using the amiibo in AC NH but my family "played" this game twice, thinking maybe the first time we just didn't get it, and it really is nothing. It's not bad or broken, it just isn't anything. π
I saw it earlier on Bluesky. Xbox immediately came to mind. GameCube never did. If I hadn't read this article it probably never would have.
Though I do wish Nintendo would put out the Switch2Cube and save all us tv owners the cost of a screen, battery and dock. That has to be at least a quarter or third of the price of the system. DO IT NINTENDO! π€
I'm currently playing DK Bananza on my Switch 2 b/c I'm weird and like playing next gen games on my new $450 consoles. I also played some MKW but after beating all the 50cc races I went back to Disney Speedstorm on PS5 b/c I like the controls better. It is on Switch 2 though.
I'm also playing SMG 2 on my Wii U b/c I don't double dip. SMG still held up but I'm yelling and cursing more at SMG 2 than enjoying it. It really is just challenge mode dlc. I'm 50 stars in, 5 more, if I can, then I'm out.
Then I'm playing HW 2, ahead of HW 3, which is a Switch game on Switch 2, so it's working for me.
Nintendo's udwa ifa Black Friday sale is to sell the games for the prices they would be if they still had either a Nintendo Selects or Player's Choice line-up of games. Switch is 8 years old, I think it might be time. I've waited this long, I'll keep waiting.
Also, Switch 2 is a thing. All those people talking about all those games Switch 2 has, we're drowning in Switch 2 games, but not 1 on the BF LIST. Not even the $10 tutorial?π€
@PikaPhantom That does seem weird that you can vote w/o making an account since you need one to comment. Which is always annoying when my phone or tablet web browser signs me out b/c I have to go look up my password, but it is better than anyone else pretending to be me after having my same account for 16 years.π
Could be a bug, could be an over site, could a crumb to get people to sign up. Feel like sharing any insight AD @antdickens π€·ββοΈ
@k8sMum Mum! I was thinking about you yesterday in that 20 year anniversary article. I think you're the only woman commenter I've ever known on here. I think I can recall 2 women working here, Kate and Alana. This place has always been such a sausage fest. π
I only had time to get though all the Lessons last night, but as I expected from the first long Kirby Direct it just isn't for me. And since I don't have online I couldn't do much more anyway. My main problem is the controls. Did these guys make a game engine that only uses 1 button? Wanna drift, press B. Wanna suck up an enemy,,press B. Wanna boost, press B. Wanna stop, press and hold B. Oh yeah Y did special, so 2 buttons.
Now I do recall Sakurai said we could reassign buttons, so maybe I'll give it another shot, but the Lessons didn't go well for me.
Since this is an article about the engine I will say it looked great, no problems there. I want to play it, but not as it's currently set to be played. I'll keep practicing, maybe it will click.
@Jhena It was so good we actually played it 2x in a row. Have ever done that w/ a game before or since. Though in part that was b/c I was about 80% through the game getting crushed by all the enemies before I realized how the Draw system worked. I did draw every spell 1 time to get it, but I had no idea you had to draw them up to 99 times to level them out. Second time we played is I leveled up every draw spell to 9o as soon as I could, made the second play through faster and more fun. And I figured out the Triad card game by then as well.
I wouldn't have replayed it if the story wasn't so good though. Rinoa is my number 1 video game girl. KOS-MOS is second. My wife watched me play all 3 of the Xenosaga games as well. And Xenogears, and the 4 Xenoblade games. And every FF game. We're big dweebs.π
Related story. We started Skies of Arcadia in that apartment where we got engaged and married. Exactly halfway through the game, you'd know it if you've played it, we packed everything up and moved into our house, where we unpacked and finished the game. Now in that same house 24 years later we watch our kids play video games. Currently playing 3 player Sea of Stars w/ our eldest. JRPG are our family glue.π
@Dynadan Hey thanks, appreciate the shout out.π Not sure what I said to deserve it. I'm like this site's STD, always popping up in a breakout. π There used to be like a dozen or so peeps I got to know on here over the years, some of whom I even followed onto social media. There's only a few left now though, and even those I think have better things to do. I'm not good w/ names though, Swiss cheese brain these days, so I can't call them out even if they were still here. @grumblevolcano has answered every question I have ever asked them though, lots of questions, so gotta give them their props. π
MJkop and blps keep changing their names but my buds keep keeping on. π
Just catching up. Seems like Nintendo is making things more difficult than need be as usual, mashing up a time limited gate locked online experience with an offline no time limit demo.
I'm downloading it now b/c the website let me. Don't have NO but wasn't planning on playing it online a way so I'm probably good. Unless the demo makes me realize it isn't worth $70 for offline only. But at least I'll know.
I play Disney Speedstorm online every day. Game is free(ish) and the online is free. No one will ever convince me that free fames having free online play but $70 games requiring you to pay to play online on console makes sense. PC and mobile are always free to play online. π€·ββοΈ
@gcunit Wel, yeah there's really only 1 hero's journey story, Journey to the West, so you can make them all sound alike if you try, so that's fair, but I suppose I was talking about tone.
Indiana Jones and the Uncharted movie are very character focused, very witty, somewhat claustrophobic, very focused. You can probably call them "action comedies". LotR was a grand epic adventure w/ sweeping vistas and storyline. Sure there was action, adventure and humor but it was on a grand scale.
Guess I'm worried they'll be too focused on making Link likable, even lovable, and focus too much on him and not enough on the grander world.
@Jhena Yeah a lot of good scenes,,like the floating in space scene. I got the game right around the time I got engaged, we were living together at the time and my future wife watched me play the entire game, and Squall & Rinoa's relationship always felt like our relationship. Good times. The credits scene w/ the home kovie camera is also my favorite ever end credit scene. π
Wow congrats.π» I actually didn't think it was that old, would have guessed 18. π Though my timeline has always been skewed b/c my bookmark to get here for the longest time was www.vc-reviews.com and I always thought you grew out of them but I guess it was more of a merger? I've only been commenting on here since June 2008, after a few months of lurking, so I missed the first few years. π€·ββοΈ

If it's at least 6-8 hours long and reviews at least a 6 I'll pick it up to play w/ my family over the holiday break. But I'm not optimistic.
Kinda feel sad for all these gamers who can't play a couch co-op game b/c they have no one to play with.π’
Re: Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade's File Size On Switch 2 Is Making Us Sweat
Re: Round Up: The Reviews Are In For Kirby Air Riders

Yeah that's too much. π

Re: Resident Evil Requiem Almost Had Mouse Controls, But It "Confused" The Gameplay
Unless Nintendo starts giving away the tutorial I can see myself playing on Switch 2 for years and never using mouse mode. I kind of forget it's a thing. Though to be fair I don't play FPS, not even MP4, more of a JRPG guy, so I really don't need it.
Re: Poll: Have You Had Issues With The Ethernet Port On Switch 2's Dock?
I'm normally a wired guy but I ran out of ports on my router. So I bought a 2-1 splitter and hooked up another old router that I dumbed down to a hub, and I still don't have enough ports for Switch 2. The only thing I use Switch 2 for us DK Bananza that I bought on cart. The wifi is working as the news updates but don't think I use it enough to worry about wiring it.
I think in another 10-12 years wireless should be good enough for everything, even home internet. And then the human race will go sterile and we'll all wonder why. π€£
Re: Hello Kitty Island Adventure - Switch 2 Edition Now Available, Includes Paid Upgrade For Switch
@FishyS RE Hello Kitty Island Adventure
Does the Switch version still play like a mobile game? I played for a month on Apple Arcade, had a free trial, and while I enjoyed it, almost every quest ending with someone saying "come back tomorrow" was getting old. And all the limited items, and limited traded. The game punishes you fir trying to play more than 30 minutes a day.
I do want to finish it though. I'm halfway through the clouds, the flower field cave, the city, and the heart. I probably should have just paid for another month of Arcade and finished it but the daily ring wore me out.
Re: It's Official, Red Dead Redemption Is Coming To Switch 2 This December
Waiting for people to complain that the free upgrade for Switch 1 game owners won't be on the cart. π
I'm half surprised Nintendo didn't tell them thry can't do free upgrades for Switch 2 games b/c the people that make it have to get paid.π€
Re: Feature: 10 Years On, Is Animal Crossing: Amiibo Festival Really That Bad?
I can't even say it was a bad game. If you watch a video of this game and occasionally hit the pause button that's as much playing the game as actually playing the game. I got my money's worth buying it on clearance at TR Us and using the amiibo in AC NH but my family "played" this game twice, thinking maybe the first time we just didn't get it, and it really is nothing. It's not bad or broken, it just isn't anything. π
Re: Random: Steam's Brand New Game Console Sure Looks Awfully Familiar
I saw it earlier on Bluesky. Xbox immediately came to mind. GameCube never did. If I hadn't read this article it probably never would have.
Though I do wish Nintendo would put out the Switch2Cube and save all us tv owners the cost of a screen, battery and dock. That has to be at least a quarter or third of the price of the system. DO IT NINTENDO! π€
Re: Nintendo Teases A New Lego 'Legend Of Zelda' Set, Possibly Including Ganon
Nice to see Nintendo taking advantage of their IP. First Mario and now Zelda. Lego obviously isn't the end all and be all but I was thinking about this and the movie, and the Mario balloon in the parade in 2 weeks. Plus the 2 amusement parks in FL & CA. Bought some Mario applesauce yesterday and saw 4 different cans of PokΓ©mon Campbell's soup. Not sure what PokΓ©mon taste like so didn't buy those.π
Anyway I'm glad Nintendo is going Disney, it's a happy colorful world.
Re: How Are You Finding Switch Game And App Compatibility On The Switch 2?

Re: Nintendo's Black Friday Offers Include Deals On Switch 1 Games, amiibo, And More
Nintendo's udwa ifa Black Friday sale is to sell the games for the prices they would be if they still had either a Nintendo Selects or Player's Choice line-up of games.
Re: Poll: What Review Score Would You Give Hyrule Warriors: Age Of Imprisonment?

This place has always been such a sausage fest. π

Re: Kirby Air Riders Looks To Be Powered By Bandai Namco's New In-House Engine

Re: Talking Point: What's The Best Firework Sequence In A Video Game?
Re: Site News: Nintendo Life Turns 20 Today!
@grumblevolcano has answered every question I have ever asked them though, lots of questions, so gotta give them their props. π
MJkop and blps keep changing their names but my buds keep keeping on. π
Re: Kirby Air Riders Global Test Ride Times - When Is The Online Demo Happening?
PC and mobile are always free to play online. π€·ββοΈ

Re: The Legend Of Zelda Movie Is Now "In Production" In New Zealand
Hope that makes sense. π€·ββοΈ
Re: Talking Point: What's The Best Firework Sequence In A Video Game?
@Jhena Yeah a lot of good scenes,,like the floating in space scene. I got the game right around the time I got engaged, we were living together at the time and my future wife watched me play the entire game, and Squall & Rinoa's relationship always felt like our relationship. Good times. The credits scene w/ the home kovie camera is also my favorite ever end credit scene. π
