Re: Sonic X Shadow Generations Speeds Onto Switch This October

martynstuff

@Ks123 it'll probably be like Superstars where you can get the DD content from the eShop. Only issue is Superstars DD content came at a price of £11 which I don't know...it's nice that it's available but it seems a shame to be charged that much on top of the base game. That said, it has been on discount at times

Re: Geoff Keighley Would Love Nintendo To "Be A Big Part" Of Summer Game Fest

martynstuff

I'm pretty sure I've said this elsewhere but the likes of E3, SGF and the TGAs need publishers more than publishers need those events to push their products. Even with smaller games you have wholesome directs and Indie World showcases to properly show off your work on a dedicated presentation. With larger titles, there's platform specific events and like.

Re: Random: Danny DeVito Open To Voicing Wario In Mario Movie Sequel

martynstuff

I've always thought Danny Trejo would do well in the role but then again, Trejo probably wouldn't take the role due his stipulation that if he plays a villain, they HAVE to face the consequences of their actions ie. get killed off or go to jail forever to teach kids/people that crime doesn't pay. Considering Wario is an anti-hero and recurring foil I can't imagine it happening

Re: Square Enix To "Aggressively Pursue" Multiplatform Strategy, Includes "Nintendo Platforms"

martynstuff

Should be interesting. Nintendo has been a fair amount of work on publishing many of the Dragon Quest titles overseas (IV-VI and IX on DS, VII-VIII on 3DS, the original release of XI S and numerous spin-offs) as well as a number of SE titles (the 3DS Bravely series, the initial Live-A-Live remake Switch release) so I'm curious as to whether SE will commit to this

Edit: although I understand the DQ series is a unique situation where it gets licensed out to SE

Re: Paper Mario: TTYD And Luigi's Mansion 2 HD Estimated Switch File Sizes Revealed

martynstuff

I'll be getting LM2HD digitally for a few reasons

  • I have 3 digitally and it'll bug me if I have one of them physically and the other digitally
  • The file size is pretty good so it qualifies as a game I'd be ok with owning digitally
  • I have 2500 My Nintendo gold coins on my account and some of them will expire by the end of June so it'll be the most cheapest option too. Getting it at £25-30 seems more palatable too

Re: Nintendo Apparently Wanted Samus Aran's Fortnite Skin To Be A Switch Exclusive

martynstuff

Hmm....i think the billion dollar company Epic Games will survive without the Samus skin in Fortnite and I'm sure Nintendo will cope likewise. This does make me wonder...

  • what kind of financial benefit do other parties see from collaborating with Fortnite. Can't imagine it's as much as people think.
  • I wonder what other collaborations were attempted but never saw the light of day. There must be some.

Re: Sega Sells Relic Entertainment And Announces Layoffs Across Multiple Teams

martynstuff

@Lanmanna Thanks for reading the whole comment. You're absolutely right. I shouldn't make jokes about gamers missing the point of these stories.
Just so we got this clear- people reading the NoA and contractors story and only expressing concerns about the first party lineup and Switch 2 is fine but don't ever make jokes about the gamers. That's too far.

Re: Talking Point: Why Isn't Nintendo Revealing Its Partner Devs Before Launch?

martynstuff

I think it's a bit of both sides. If the developer was revealed and it got a negative response, those Devs are probably going to get harangued over it from the more 'passionate' fan. Not great for the developer morale. If it gets a more positive response, chances are they may get haragued in other ways like looking for hints, telling Devs what they should be doing or trying to get extra info.
It would also explain why Nintendo announces games a few months before release (with some exceptions). It's probably to let devs to work on stuff without eyes of players looking over them.
Unfortunately, there are some people who will judge a game solely on the developer. I'm willing to guess some people didn't buy Sonic Superstars just because Arzest were involved. Sometimes there maybe some logic but on the other hand, the developers of Castlevania Lords of Shadow 2 also made Metroid Dread. Luigi's Mansion 3? From the same people who gave you Federation Force. I think some people look at certain devs and think 'Oh, they suck because...'. I bet there's people who look at ILCA and judge them solely on BDSP and nothing else.

Long story short, I think Nintendo prefers to let the games speak for themselves rather than people obsess who's making it

Re: Review: South Park: Snow Day! (Switch) - Glitchy, Clunky Co-op That Should've Stayed Indoors

martynstuff

Guys, you can get The Fractured But Whole and it's season pass on the EU eShop for £17.49 if anyone really wants to play a South Park games. Also, the Stick of Truth is 8.99 now.

Kind of a bummer the game didn't pan out. I don't mind the artstyle switch as the animation is much the shows. My biggest issue was when the trailers were shown, I still had no idea what the game is. It's a shame as I think Trey Parker and Matt Stone do know what a good game can be (IIRC, Trey cites Earthbound as an inspiration for the two RPGs with it's 'innocent kids finding themselves in a much bigger adventure than they anticipated' theme).

Re: Random: Pokémon Fans Reckon They've Spotted A Legends: Z-A Teaser In Scarlet & Violet

martynstuff

I do like how Game Freak foreshadowes future titles
-XY had the souvenir (SuMo)
-A launch event for SuMo with Masuda occured in London (In hindsight, they were probably there to do research for SwSh)
-SuMo had Lillie go to Kanto (LgPE)

  • USUM had the G-Max Toxtricity poster
  • Crown Tundra had you obtaining Spiritomb in the same manner as DPPt
  • BDSP had the hint for a quest in PLA
  • Not sure if there were any confirmed hints of Gen 9 in Gen 8
  • the banners outside the Medali restaurant hinted at the Teal Mask
  • Gen 9 had alluded to the Unova with the...wait... Let's Go Johto with...erm..oh, GF got wise to it and it was Roaring Moon and Iron Valiant that were possible hints to Z-A and Megas

Re: New Mario Movie Concept Art Shows Princess Daisy In Action

martynstuff

@Anti-Matter to me, the sepia tone implies it's a flashback scene to when the bros were teenagers (note the shaggy hair) and Mario is lamenting he can't yet grow a proper moustache while Luigi had managed to get start getting one. Would be a nice little detail that while Luigi has his vulnerabilities, Mario had his own when being compared to Luigi when he was younger. The van with the Luigi Bros logo seems to suggest that Luigi was the more popular brother at the start of the film. I guess it got changed so it suited their more traditional roles

Or I might be reading too much into it

Re: Dragon Ball Creator Akira Toriyama Has Passed Away

martynstuff

Recently I learned that Dragon Quest isn't actually owned by Square-Enix. It's actually owned by Yuji Horii and merely licensed out exclusively to SE with Toriyama owning the character design rights and Sugiyama owning music rights. Taking this into account, it's surprising to think that DQ has lost two of it's key forces in recent years. I would assume that the Toriyama estate would now own those.

Anyway, although I wasn't really into Toriyamas works (I did like Dr Slump back in the day) it would be fair to say that his works have had an impact on the anime and games industry. Usually when media has to portray an anime, it would be DragonBall-esque. I often find it amusing when the like of anime or manga has to represent a particular-but-very-lawyer-friendly adventure video game, it would be a DQ expy. All in all, it would be naive to say his impact on pop culture is minor. Thoughts go out to family, friends and colleagues.

Re: Pokémon Legends: Z-A Is Apparently "Set Entirely Within Lumiose City"

martynstuff

As i said in a previous article, i kind of like the idea of it being based mostly in an urban environment. The size of city seems large enough to have enough material for the likes of main quests and side missions. Also the scaled back vision would allow for more aesthetically pleasing locations.
I'm sure we'll need to venture out of Lumiose for certain quests (Lumiose needs electricity and it would be nice to learn about the power plant which was in XY). I feel like time travel might be rehashing the plot line of Arceus but it might be nice if, while working on reworking Lumiose, you stumble upon clues on what happened all those years ago during the great war. Maybe there might be flashback moments where you play as a young AZ.

Anyway, back to the point. I was thinking a while back that maybe the Legends series doesn't always have to be set in the past or be open world. Maybe it can allow GF to experiment with different RPG genres. I mean, that's something people wanted, right? Something a bit different from the norm. It would certainly allow GF to be more creative with the genre and if it doesn't work out that's fine.

Re: Pokémon Legends: Z-A Announced, Coming To Switch In 2025

martynstuff

Oh hey...Game Freak are doing the following

  • bringing back Megas
  • probably tying up the AZ arc
  • bringing back Kalos
  • its a sequel to the game you'll said felt unfinished narratively
  • likely giving Zygarde a story

GF are giving you the thing you bished about for 8 years

Two hopes though

  • if we're collecting Zygarde cells, I hope it's more fun than the souls in PLA
  • I hope it isn't too open world. Traveling in Hisui was a schlep. Maybe if it was more Arkham City like (assuming it's located solely in Lumiose). I don't want to go through sparce environments like SV or PLA (or 'dudun'sparce in the formers case ba-dum tsh). Kalos is a pretty region. I'd much rather if it was scaled back in scope for more aesthetic looking locations*

Re: Pokémon Presents 'Pokémon Day' Broadcast Runtime Revealed

martynstuff

I'm sure whatever happens, it will be met rationally. Some will be upset if there's a new game, some will be upset when there's no new game, some will be upset when there's no NSO, some will be upset when there is NSO and they have to pay for it, some will be upset when leaks don't happen and they won't blame themselves for buying into it or blame leakers for misleading. Some will be upset at no Johto games, some will be upset when there's no Black and White, some will be upset when there's no Legends, some will be upset if any of the three do exist. Some will be upset at any news, others will be upset at no news.
Be careful whose advice you buy but be patient with those who supply it. Advice is a form of nostalgia, dispensing it is a way of fishing the past. From the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it's worth

But trust me on the sunscreen

Re: Talking Point: Pokémon Presents Predictions - What Are You Expecting?

martynstuff

Usually I'd repeat my comments for this so I'm not going to bother but it got me thinking -

  • there's these rumours of Johto Let's Go or remakes but surely that would contradict the 'bring the GB games to NSO' speculation. Like if you played GSC, would people still get the remakes because I'm fairly confident there's a a certain subset of people who would look at a remake and think 'whatever. I'll stick to the originals'
  • I can't see the mainline games coming to NSO and I think that might be down to how the GB games on VC lacked the save point feature (to stop people cheating IIRC). I can't imagine those games having the rewind feature either. I think a specialised Pokemon NSO app could be a better option where you could play the games as is but also has a 'time machine' function to store any Pokémon you have in those games into an individual box that could be transferred to HOME. That said, I can't imagine that app, much like the mainline games, allowing backup saves which sort of a selling point of NSO.
  • All in all, with all these speculations and rumours I would prefer a more quieter yea. Maybe something to chew over while the next game is being developed.

Re: Mother 3 Is Coming To Nintendo Switch Online, But There's A Catch

martynstuff

And to @Zulzar, you seem to overlook that Itoi has no interest in continuing the Mother series. It's done with. You could say 'Nintendo could just do a new one'. Well, no because that would go against the creators vision. Everyone wants to respect the creators vision until it doesn't suit thier own vision.
In regards to Nintendo ignoring the west, you may have a point if you ignore making the Switch not region locked, putting Ridley, K Rool, Dark Samus, Simon, Banjo, Steve and Sora in Smash, 'give us a new Metroid/Prime, localising and publishing numerous JRPGs in the rest of the world, acknowledge F-Zero or put Rare games on NSO and numerous other factors. I think Nintendo are just ignoring you personally.

Re: Mother 3 Is Coming To Nintendo Switch Online, But There's A Catch

martynstuff

To be fair, it would be tricky to port the western release of Mother 3 when you know...there was no official western release for it...

'Well, they could have used fan translation for...'
smack

Stop right there. The NSO versions of 1080 and Wave Race 64 are the actual N64 versions, not the VC ones. I know you would love it to be on there but the NSO has the original versions of these games and there's no original English language of Mother 3. Go play the unofficial translation. It's free.

Re: Pokémon Presents Announced For 27th February 2024

martynstuff

Reminder- if you want GF to take their time with the games, maybe don't expect anything like BWr, Let's Go Johto, BW3 or Legends 2. I know some want to grasp on whatever Centro or RiddlerKhu say but maybe it's fine if there's not a full fat game announced.
Also, keep in mind these are multimedia presentations so mobile apps, anime and TCG re also on the (literally in the latter case) cards.

Anyway it would be nice to see both Pokémon Pinballs and Pokémon Puzzle Challenge come to NSO.
