Re: Internal Xbox Email Details Desire To Acquire Nintendo

martynstuff

@HeadPirate I'm glad you brought this up. IIRC, of any one party was to acquire more than 10% of a company, they could get the government involved to block it. That also applies to the PiL(?) and thier 6-8% shares

Not to mention that Shuntaro Furukawa has flat out said the company has actions in place should anyone attempt a hostile takeover

Re: Nintendo Reportedly Showed 'Switch 2' Demos To Developers At Gamescom

martynstuff

As exciting as this may sound, this means we're going to put up with YouTubers doing speculative clickbait videos for the next 12 months... 😔

'Switch 2 Launch Line Up LEAKED???!!!'
'The Switch 2 MUST have these features'
'4Chan poster hints at FZERO on Switch2'
'The Switch 2 is Doomed from the Start!! (They didn't send me a free game 😡)'

Re: Review: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder's Revenge - Dimension Shellshock - Totally Tubular DLC

martynstuff

Anyway, in terms of DLC, it's worth remembering the initial game had no plans for add-on content so its worth keeping in mind-

  • add-on content is usually a way to help recoup profits from initial development costs
  • I feel pretty confident that the majority of any games DLC is usually content that either scrapped early on in development, were considered briefly or, most likely, ideas that only came to mind once the game went gold.
  • in this games case, I can imagine that licensing Usagi must have took some time and fee to negotiate. You'd have to get the all clear from the original owner, Stan Sakai as well as the okay from Nickelodeon to use a character not owned by them.

I suppose someone will counter this with thier own take and fair enough but you know what wouldn't pass today? A re-release of a game with all the extra content. Imagine if publishers went with the 'Super Street Fighter II' route and just released the same game each year with a few new features and characters. This comment section would have a field day!

Re: Review: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder's Revenge - Dimension Shellshock - Totally Tubular DLC

martynstuff

I'm liking the DLC but I don't think it's as enjoyable as the base game. I don't mind unlocking skins and the new characters are fun but it does feel like a grind at times. It's better in multiplayer but it's a bit to tough for me in single player. At the moment I'm using dimension warp and cheesing my way through to the last few stages online to get the last gem. That way, I can unlock the remaining skins at my own pace

Re: Brand New 3D South Park Game Announced For Switch

martynstuff

I see this is keeping the jerky-type of animation style that the show has which is a neat little detail.

I get the feeling this might be a strategic turn based RPG akin to Fire Emblem especially with the fantasy setting. Maybe with terrain based maps (snow, that brown slush, ice patches etc). I can imagine New Kids abilities like rewinding time, fart powers could work in it too

Re: Poll: What Do You Think Of Raging Bolt In Pokémon Scarlet & Violet?

martynstuff

@YoshiF2 To be fair, they are literal translation of the Japanese names. I kind of like they have scientific names akin to how real life creatures have latin based species names.

My favourite however is Iron Valiants french name being Garde-de-Ferre which translates to 'Iron Guard' and works a pun. Of course, some people dont care about that sort of detail😔

Re: Pokémon Presents Announced For 8th August 2023

martynstuff

Just going to copy and paste what I wrote on a discord to save me time

Prepare for such hits as-
'Why are they talking about the mobile games'
'Give us info on Detective Pikachu Returns'
'Stop telling us about Detective Pikachu Returns'
'People getting angry at Serebii for some reason'
'Wheres BW3/Let's Go Johto/Legends: Kyruem even though there's no evidence they exist'
'Something something billion dollar company'
'Me thinking it was fine and accidentally spoiling something on this server'
On a more rational note, I would guess the nice surprises would be the TCG GBC game arriving on NSO (maybe Pinball too) and adding 'the story so far' feature to DPR that covers the first games events for those who haven't played it.

Im not expecting the mainline games on NSO if theyre like the VC versions that had no save states and I doubt they'll have rewind feature. Maybe if it was its own NSO app

Re: Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl 2 Announced, Squidward & Jimmy Neutron Join The Roster

martynstuff

Going to be honest, the moment they showed the 'Squidward looking out the window' scene I get the feeling the game may be relying on memes. The original focused way too much on memes (Hugh Neutron, Nigel Thornberry, sPonGebOB to name a few). I'll likely skip this as i didnt think too much of the original.

That said, Nickelodeon and GameMill seem to be really running this multi-character crossover genre into the ground. That's 3 kart racers and 2 Smash-likes in how many years? Don't get me wrong, they can be fun but if you go to that well too regularly the novelty will wear off real fast.

Re: Microsoft CEO Says He Would "Love To Get Rid Of" Exclusives On Consoles

martynstuff

Lukewarm take: Exclusives make the gaming industry interesting. As a Nintendo fan, there's been plenty of games I've wanted to play but have skipped the system I own. Sometimes you got to accept your losses.
IMO, there's nothing wrong with exclusives. The biggest issue with exclusives is peoples attitude to games being exclusive to a platform they don't own.

Re: Random: Mortal Kombat Co-Creator Knows Who He'd Add To Smash Bros., If Nintendo Was To Ask

martynstuff

@JR150 I'll add a bit of context to this. Yes, while Japanese media has gore (movies, anime, manga etc), it's more of case of CERO disallowing any title that involves content like decapitation or revealing internal organs from seeing release in Japan. Considering modern day MK definitely leans into NSFL gore, it would be unlikely any new game would see a JP release.

Anyway, I think Scorpion could work as an assist trophy where he could grab opponents with his spear-chain thing, draw them in, punch/kick and fling them away. Think like the Links tether grab. Obviously less blood. Base it on his MKII design.

Unrelated but Meta-Ridley would make a fun guest fighter in an MK title

Re: Nintendo Switch Online Release Pac-Man 99 Shutting Down This October

martynstuff

@Friendly I think it has less to do with Nintendo more to do with Bandai Namco considering they are the publisher (although this and Tetris 99 do have the same developer, ARIKA)
I'm not wise to how these things work but I'm guessing it wasn't quite the pull BN hoped. The fact Tetris 99 gave you a reason to come back (new themes events) probably gave it some longevity and a

Re: Seth Rogen On Voicing Donkey Kong In The Mario Movie: "It's Gonna Sound Like Me And That's It"

martynstuff

@Noxide I think Nintendo were the ones pushing for Martinet to have a more prominent appearance in the movie. Judging from the initial trailer listing him among the key cast and Miyamoto mentioning he'll be making 'cameos' may imply we'll be hearing his voice in scenes as various characters (or even as Wario/Waluigi in a brief scene) . I can't imagine Illumination/Universal opting for it. Either way, I hope it was a nice little payday for him.

Re: Talking Point: Where Should The Next Pokémon Legends Game Take Place?

martynstuff

Legends: Mew

Takes place in a new South American region. You're part of a research team to help look into how Pokemon adapt to various environments (Urban, Forest, rivers etc). The research programme has been co-funded by sources who want you to look into various tasks for example-
The Pokemon League- collect info on how environments affect battles
The Professors Council - Research different types of pokemon to compare to how various pokemon behave region by region
Silph Co - Explore how technology is used by locals and how people can learn from each other
??? - A mysterious benefactor who wishes for information to be collected about the mythical pokemon Mew

One night while walking alone at night, you are approached by a New only you can see. As the story goes on, it becomes clearer that Mew needs your help as it has a feeling that someone in the group is secretly trying to find Mew and capture it for their bosses collection.

Anyway, it all comes to climax when you have to battle Mew who now wants to save the region by completely destroying it to start anew. Impossible to beat, you set off to summon 3 spirits of ancient mythological beings that will give you enough buffs to calm down Mew during battle. These spirits are
Purity (Celebi)
Hope (Jirachi)
Success (Victini)

In the end, Mew escapes and goes into hiding as you and the team make your way home. A mid-credits scene sees one of the exploration team approach a figure to explain that Mew was unobtainable but he managed to get something that might be of use. Its a Mew hair. The figure says it will have to suffice. The figure turns out to be the mysterious co-funder, Giovanni

As you can guess, it would be direct prequel to Red and Blue set a few months before the events of Gen 1

Re: Quiz: Do You Know The Meaning Behind These Pokémon Names?

martynstuff

You see, I like to think Grookey is a combination of grass + groovy + uki (Japanese onomatopoeia for a monkey sound) but maybe I'm looking too much into it.

Anyway, I think the most impressive name I've seen is the French name for Iron Valiant. It's Garde-De-Ferre which not only sounds like the pokemon it's partially based on (Gardevoir) but translates to...Iron Guard so it's pretty much a straight translation.

Re: Fire Emblem Character Designer Reveals Pokémon He Created For Scarlet & Violet

martynstuff

@Ogbert To be fair, the dex does state its an unknown poison pokemon that takes over a scrap engine and uses the minerals from the rock wheels to move.
Keeping in mind they're found in rocky places and the Eastern province area, it probably implies that they're scrap engines that have been discarded by the original owners. That might explain how Team Star manage to create those vehicles-through scrapyards. Might also explain why the other vehicle pokemon, the Rolycoly line, appear in similar places - because they are not needed to power things anymore.

Or so I speculate...

Re: Fire Emblem Character Designer Reveals Pokémon He Created For Scarlet & Violet

martynstuff

To be fair, Revavroom is such a Kozaki design I recognised it when it was hinted. Its the tongue sticking out that gives it away. You can see it in some of his character art for No More Heroes, Fire Emblem and Toxtricity line.

I like that GameFreak let guests contribute something to the series like Kozaki and Toby Fox (OK, fine Kozaki did the main character designs in GO but you get my point)
