Re: Poll: What Is Your Favourite Game In The Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection?

martynstuff

I'm enjoying this collection but I was quite surprised by The Punisher. It's short but is genuinely enjoyable ( granted I had to lower the difficulty because you know, it's an arcade game).

I also like the simpler inputs for moves. I don't usually use them but whenever I use Cyclops uppercut move, I usually accidentally do an optic sweep so the L+forward input is usual too. Also I finally figured how to pull off a charge input too so hurrah for me

Re: Devolver Digital Confirms The Plucky Squire Won't Run At 60 FPS On Switch

I guess if it's 30fps, the 3D sections will give off a stop-motionesque feel to it. That would give it a sense of playful wonder in theme with the game.

That said, I would LOVE it if there was a game where you fought a giant creature but it moves in a Ray Harryhausen like manner as a homage to that animation style. I've always wanted to see, say, Ridley like that

Re: Video: Marvel vs. Capcom: Fighting Collection Spotlights Two More Games

martynstuff

@CartoonDan Long story short is certain endings in Power Stone will be altered (likely to keep within rating boards standards. I think Rouge's ending features her, albeit implied, naked body. Last thing you want is an 18/M rating for a game that wasn't intended). Some of Demitris Midnight Bliss effects are changed (likely due to some licensing issues from what I understand). Think there's also some flashing effects removed too (optional)

To me, those differences don't bother me. It does appear to bother one YouTuber who seemed a bit salty neither collection is coming to Xbox

Re: Soapbox: The Next Pokémon Game Should Rework Old Critters, Not Just Add Dozens More

martynstuff

You see, i quite liked cross-gen evolutions. It gave old favourites a new twist. I'm glad they brought it back in SV (and gen VIII). Granted the last time it was fully implemented in Gen IV the results were a mixed among people (Magmortar was kinda ugly) but I do enjoy seeing them and using them

Regional variants are another smart idea. It allows some old Pokémon a new lease of life, makes some sense that some Pokémon are different depending on the environment and more importantly to me, holds back on the expy designs you'll sometimes get. Why give Paldea a new black bull Pokémon when Tauros exists and refit for the areas culture. It's the same with Mr Mime in Galar. The original is based on miming so surely it's a good basis for other performance art like tap dancing or physical comedy.

I'm also a fan of mega evolution but I can understand why that wouldn't be revisited again (Z-A withstanding). Apparently, it was a bit unbalanced in competitive so if it was an ongoing feature with more Megas, the whole thing would have to be drastically rebalanced each and every time. That might explain why XY got the Legends treatment. Z-A will likely be single player focused title like Arceus so they don't have to worry too much about balance or the competitive scene but also throw the fanbase a bone with a much liked feature. Unfortunately, this also means besides Gen 6 remakes, enjoy Z-As Megas because we won't be seeing them again.

Also, lukewarm take but I liked the baby Pokémon. We got one in Gen 8 and I thought it was a shame Cetoddle and Capsukid weren't considered baby forms especially from the naming structures

Re: Nintendo Is Expanding Switch Online's NES Library With Another Classic

@sixrings @Tayrailbridge
To be fair, The Tetris Company are very protective of the name. I think they tend to hold out on this sort of thing. IIRC, they tend to send out C&Ds to any puzzle games that use the theme tune (despite it being a old folk song).
Let's not forget that time when the GB Tetris was removed from the 3DS eShop due to licensing issues being held by Ubisoft at the time. It might also explain why NSO got Panel De Pon as opposed to its western version, Tetris Attack instead to the Tetris name despite Nintendo being the developer/publisher.

I would assume the NES Tetris and upcoming Tetris 99 event are part of a cross agreement for the use of the Famicom and Nintendo branding in Tetris Forever because it would be odd to exclude Nintendo from the timeline.

All that said, knowing TTC can revoke some games, I'd recommend making sure you keep 99 and Effect on your systems, people!

Re: Atsuko Tanaka, The Japanese Voice Of Bayonetta, Has Passed Away

martynstuff

Very sad news. Thoughts are with family, friends and colleagues.

IIRC, she got the got the role of Bayonetta due to popular fancast choice which lead to her being chosen for the role in the anime movie. This later led to her being cast in the games and finally giving the original game its own JP dub thanks to Nintendo funding the Wii U port of the game

Re: Nintendo's 'Mega Game Trials' Brings Four Free Games To NSO Subscribers This Week (Europe)

martynstuff

You know what? This is a pretty good line up. Last time they did a Multiplayer Festival with free trials, it was mainly multiplayer only games which was a little disappointing. This however is a much better lineup. I already own PowerWash and Tetris Effect (and they are brilliant. Don't forget to download all the free add-on content for PowerWash from the eShop too) but Gungeon and Cassette Beasts sound like they would be fun.

I'm also glad I own two of those games because there's no way I can juggle 4 games in one week!

Re: Pokémon President Teases Special Game News For 2024 World Championships Closing Ceremony

martynstuff

Putting aside Z-A, I'd like to see a release of TCG mobile game dropped and some of the GB and GBA spin-offs come to NSO (pinball, puzzle challenge etc)
In a perfect world, a dedicated Pokémon NSO app to play the GB and GBA games. When I say dedicated, I mean without the rewind or quicksave features (to stop you naughty boys and girls cheating. Similar to how the 3DS VC versions disallowed quicksaves) BUT it would include a Pokémon PC feature where you can move Pokémon from those games to a dedicated box which would be Home compatible.

Re: Video: Marvel vs. Capcom: Fighting Collection 'Marvel Super Heroes' Trailer

martynstuff

They're going to release a trailer for each game before we get a release date, huh?

Still apprehensive about whether the physical edition will be available for Europe. Still have this feeling the Switch version will be digital only here while the PS4 version will be physical. I know they said it would be physical but they never specified whether it includes Europe and both platforms. I mean I'll still buy it...

Re: Sonic X Shadow Generations Estimated Switch File Size Revealed

@Ruthchild I've had a brief look and it would appear that the lack of any Olympic video game (be it M&S or regular) could be an economic issue. It's worth taking into account while sports games do well in general, the likes of FIFA, Madden etc. already have a steady audience with yearly releases whereas mainline Olympics games are every four years so there's no guarantee that the install base from the previous game will still be there for the new game.

Or at least that's what I understand

Re: Mario + Rabbids Director Davide Soliani Leaves Ubisoft After 25 Years

martynstuff

@anoyonmus I don't think Soliani and the team were getting negative comments around the time of the leaks as we had no idea as to which Ubisoft team was working on it til the games reveal. That said, i bet they were seeing those comments before then and feeling disheartened about it all.

Thankfully, the eventual reveal made people backpedal and admit they may have been a bit harsh

Re: Riot Games Reportedly Cancels Smash Bros. Style Fighter Codenamed 'Pool Party'

"The source further notes how Riot Games apparently "saw an opportunity to build and support the game's esports scene — unlike Nintendo"
There's your problem. I've seen similar remarks in regards to NASB and Multiversus with this whole 'consumer friendo' schtick to give off this impression you're doing something that a competing product and therefore they must be on the consumers side. I think with that attitude, I think it misses the point of Smash's success and appeal of being a couch co-op game to be played with friends and brand familiarity. I think it's obvious that Nintendo doesn't have much interest in the competitive scene and that's fine but I think to assume that jumping directly to the eSports scene as your core audience and ignoring Smash's core audience seems a little naïve and brazen about your main reason to make the game. That is my opinion personally.
