Re: UK Charts: Super Mario RPG Can't Jump To The Top Five In Its Debut Week On Switch

martynstuff

Honestly, #6 isnt too bad. I don't know where previous Mario RPGs have debuted in the charts previously but I can't imagine they've hit the #6 spot in thier first week. After a little research, the original SMRPG sold 2.1 million copies (whether that includes digital sales via VC, I don't know). Considering it looks like it's had good reviews and great word-of-mouth in the lead up, surely it'll beat that.

For a spin off series (yes, I'll clump SMRPG, M&L and PM together), #6 isnt too bad of a start. Granted, it was never going to do Mario Kart numbers but it looks promising

Re: Bandai Namco Announces New Dev Studio For Commissioned Projects

martynstuff

Well, their partnership has been pretty strong since Nintendo bought Monolith Soft. Sounds a bit daft saying the connection is stronger after one company bought the others subsidiary.
Considering Nintendo had no issue allowing MonoSoft to work on PxZ and both companies having thier Xeno characters appear in each other projects (PxZ2 and Xenoblade 2), I think its fair to say it's a very amicable relationship.

Re: Konami Calls On Snake's OG Voice Actor To Promote New Metal Gear Solid Legacy Video Series

martynstuff

IIRC, didn't Konami get Hayter back to do lines for Snakes appearence in Bomberman R? Or at least used his voice clips for it. I think he also took a pay cut for recording the Twin Snakes so that Konami/Nintendo/SK could bring back as many of the original voice cast too.
Taking that and the fact he has tried to pitch a MGS movie (he wrote/co-wrote the first two Xmen movies and Watchmen) and was annoyed over the EVO prank, it seems like he still has a lot of affection for the series and Kojima was the main force behind recasting Snake rather than Konami

Re: Random: Players Share Bananas Gameplay Of New King Kong Game, And It's Not Looking Good

martynstuff

This has been my issue with Gamemill. They seem to push out these licensed games much too frequently. Like in a span of 5 years , they've released three Nickelodeon kart racers. We have a Nickelodeon All Star Brawl game which is already getting sequel so soon after the original. Add King Kong and that DreamWorks racer and I have to wonder if, as a publisher, they rush these things out. Although I do wonder if Nickelodeon play a role in it too.

@tektite_captain To be fair, Warner Bros own the rights to King Kong these days.

Re: Round Up: The Reviews Are In For Pokémon Scarlet & Violet - The Teal Mask

martynstuff

@all3forever To be fair, if they did that it would take resources from Monolith Soft who likely working on a new Xeno/large scale RPG (1st development team), assisting with previously mentioned game or pre-planning the next Zelda (2nd development team) or assisting on certain minor aspects on EPD titles (Kyoto).

That's not to say GF shouldn't ask for advice or assistance if needed but ultimately I would think that taking some of the workload off GF would be useful. I think there's a matter of things that would benefit all parties

  • If people want GameFreak to take time, gamers need to give them time. There's no point playing gen 10 and then asking 'Wheres BW remakes/Legends 2?'. If people don't want GF to push a new game every year, we need to stop speculating a new game every Pokémon Presents
  • One of the best ideas GF have done is given DLC development to a B-team and outsource BDSP to another developer. I know the latter wasn't received well but I'm sure it took a bit of the workload off GFs shoulders. If BW were to get remade, I think a non-GF studio could do it even if it was a remaster. It would work well as a filler to tide people over til the next new adventure.
  • I don't think Pokémon lends itself to an open world too well. Your Zeldas and Skyrims are great but Paldea seems a little...barren. I think a more traditional approach with more expansive routes akin to the wild areas would be a nicer approach something familiar but still encourages exploration between towns.

Anyway, I've gone WAY off topic. Tl,dr I don't believe using Monolith Softs resources is the key solution as all sectors of that company seems busy enough as is and I definitely don't think the IP should be removed from the creatives and 'given to a better studio' because I can't imagine that would keep GFs morale up.

(And to the person I tagged, this is not solely aimed at you. I got a little carried away. Sorry)

Re: Internal Xbox Email Details Desire To Acquire Nintendo

martynstuff

@HeadPirate I'm glad you brought this up. IIRC, of any one party was to acquire more than 10% of a company, they could get the government involved to block it. That also applies to the PiL(?) and thier 6-8% shares

Not to mention that Shuntaro Furukawa has flat out said the company has actions in place should anyone attempt a hostile takeover

Re: Nintendo Reportedly Showed 'Switch 2' Demos To Developers At Gamescom

martynstuff

As exciting as this may sound, this means we're going to put up with YouTubers doing speculative clickbait videos for the next 12 months... 😔

'Switch 2 Launch Line Up LEAKED???!!!'
'The Switch 2 MUST have these features'
'4Chan poster hints at FZERO on Switch2'
'The Switch 2 is Doomed from the Start!! (They didn't send me a free game 😡)'

Re: Review: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder's Revenge - Dimension Shellshock - Totally Tubular DLC

martynstuff

Anyway, in terms of DLC, it's worth remembering the initial game had no plans for add-on content so its worth keeping in mind-

  • add-on content is usually a way to help recoup profits from initial development costs
  • I feel pretty confident that the majority of any games DLC is usually content that either scrapped early on in development, were considered briefly or, most likely, ideas that only came to mind once the game went gold.
  • in this games case, I can imagine that licensing Usagi must have took some time and fee to negotiate. You'd have to get the all clear from the original owner, Stan Sakai as well as the okay from Nickelodeon to use a character not owned by them.

I suppose someone will counter this with thier own take and fair enough but you know what wouldn't pass today? A re-release of a game with all the extra content. Imagine if publishers went with the 'Super Street Fighter II' route and just released the same game each year with a few new features and characters. This comment section would have a field day!

Re: Review: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder's Revenge - Dimension Shellshock - Totally Tubular DLC

martynstuff

I'm liking the DLC but I don't think it's as enjoyable as the base game. I don't mind unlocking skins and the new characters are fun but it does feel like a grind at times. It's better in multiplayer but it's a bit to tough for me in single player. At the moment I'm using dimension warp and cheesing my way through to the last few stages online to get the last gem. That way, I can unlock the remaining skins at my own pace
