Re: Video: Here's Your First Look At The Street Fighter Live-Action Movie, Due Out 2026

kevin74

Based on what I just saw in the trailer, this movie looks really dumb. But I'd still give it a chance, although realistically, I doubt I'll ever see it since I don't go to movie theaters anymore, nor do I subscribe to any of the streaming services. Looks to me like it'll get universally panned by the movie critics, though. But I bet it does ok at the box office.

Re: Feature: My NES Longing, My Son's Terrifying Switch 2 Obsession

I remember my twin brother & me getting an NES for Christmas 1987 when I was 12. We had never even heard of it before. We had a Colecovision with 4 games (Donkey Kong, James Bond, & I forget the other two games) & had been borrowing our cousins' Atari peripheral attachment & a bunch of their games so we could play Atari games on the Colecovision. Once we got that NES (my parents also got us Wizards & Warriors for that same Christmas), the Colecovision barely ever got touched. And then the following Easter, they gifted us The Legend of Zelda. Those were some good times.

@molkom I'm the opposite. While I have nothing personal against Japan or its people, when games heavily revolve around Japan or Japanese culture, it's an instan turn-off for me. I used to want to learn Japanese, but now, I don't like hearing the language too much. It's very harsh-sounding to me & I'm not sure why I feel the way I do about it. And traditional Japanese culture, dress, etc. has never appealed to me.

Re: Rumour: A Bunch Of LEGO Games Might Get The 'Switch 2 Edition' Treatment Soon

kevin74

Lego City Undercover is my favorite Lego game & the first Lego game I've ever completed (also beat Lego Marvel Superheroes — I had both of them on Wii U). When Lego City Undercover released on Switch, I deleted it on Wii U & downloaded the Switch version, but I only messed around with it for a few hours. I also downloaded it on PS5 just to see if it looked or performed any better. I honestly can't tell the difference between Switch & PS5 versions, though I didn't do a side-by-side comparison.

Re: Dragon Quest I & II HD Remake's Brand New Underwater Region Is Beautiful

kevin74

I loved Dragon Warrior & Dragon Warrior II on the NES back in the day. I'm currently playing through DQ XI S on PS5, & it's alright. I haven't played any other game in the series (I might have played DW III on NES, but if I did, I have no memory of it, so I probably haven't). Probably another 7/10 game for me. But this HD 2D collection (& DQ III HD 2D) looks right up my alley. I'll have to download them someday.

Re: Nintendo Adds One Of The Most Divisive Zelda Entries To 'Nintendo Music'

kevin74

I loved Zelda II back in the day. Still love it today. Going through the final dungeon is a breeze once you memorize the route, especially as an adult (took my brother & I days of exploring to memorize the layout). The final boss attacks are completely randomized, but button mashing overcomes the boss well enough, imo. There are much harder games out there.

Re: Newcomers Can Break Final Fantasy VII Remake With New Difficulty Settings

kevin74

FFVII Remake on PS5 was ok. Probably a 7/10 for me. It definitely had some areas where it could've been improved, though. I should play back through the original sometime to compare it to the remake. Problem is that I've beaten the original so many times on PS1 that I doubt I'll ever get around to it. And after beating Remake, I have no desire to play back through that one either.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (6th September)

kevin74

A friend let me borrow some PS4/5 games a few weeks ago, & while I've been trying to get through my downloaded copy of ME: Andromeda for months now, on a whim I decided to try out Tales of Arise & got sucked in. So, I should complete that game this weekend. It's the first Tales game I've ever played. I like it well enough, but it definitely has some flaws. Probably a 7/10 game for me.

Re: Shin'en Announces 'The Touryst: Deluxe', Exclusive To Switch 2

kevin74

I have the original on Switch. I don't own a Switch 2 yet, so obviously, I won't be double-dipping. But even if I had a S2, I'm not sure that I'd double-dip. The game was fun enough, but I did start to get a little tired of it about midway through. I'd rate it 7/10. I'm not sure I'd have a desire to play through it again, though.

Re: Review: Shadow Labyrinth - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition - Sometimes 'Good Enough' Is Just That

kevin74

I think this game looks good enough for me. Metroidvanias are one of my favorite genres, although, like some here, while I played & beat Hollow Knight, I don't really get what all the fuss was about. It was an ok game. I liked it well enough, but I didn't think it was anything 'magical' or 'special'. I'd rate it 7/10. I liked the atmosphere & aesthetic, but it WAS a little too long, I thought. And the first Hornet fight was rage-inducing — took me forever to beat her, but once I did, the game opened up for me more, & became much more entertaining. I'm kind of excited a bit for Silk Song, but there's no massive appeal (at least not yet).

I also felt the same with PoP: The Lost Crown. I just completed it on PS5 last night, & again, it was a 7/10 for me.

Re: Review: Old Skies (Switch) - A Slow But Satisfying Time-Hopping Adventure

kevin74

I may try this at some point. I'm not a huge fan of point & click, but there are some good ones out there. I thoroughly enjoyed Jenny LeClue - Detectivu, Thimbleweed Park, Stick It to the Man, & The Cave. Those games were hilarious. I also like Syberia (beat the first 2 games & I've been in the middle of 3 for a couple of years now) & Secret Files (beat the first one & I've been stuck in the middle of the 2nd one for well over a year). And I have the Deponia games, which I've only ever toyed around with the first one a bit to see what it was like; one day I'll give those games a proper playthrough.

Re: Nintendo Aware Of Pesky Bug In Endless Ocean: Luminous

kevin74

One thing EO3 does better than the first 2 games is getting rid of dolphin training & petting/feeding the marine life to learn more about them. Dolphin training was ok for the first couple of animals, but trying to train them all got boring & too repetitive really fast (although I still pushed through & trained every one). And feeding/petting fish was too time consuming & not too fun, either. So I like that with EO3, there's not 2 or 3 tiers of info locked behind animal interactions, but you learn everything by simply scanning them.

Re: Review: Endless Ocean: Luminous (Switch) - A Meditative Marine Milieu, But Incredibly Shallow

kevin74

I'm still excited for this game, despite the review. The first two games in the series were really enjoyable, especially EO2 (although I felt the abyss in EO1 was much better (and bigger) than the abyss in EO2), despite their flaws.

I tried Abzu twice and just could not get into it. But one day, I'll give it another shot. And I played Subnautica for an hour or two, and it was just too tedious. But I'll attempt it again, too, some day.
