"could rival 3D Mario and probably sell similar numbers."
Lmao, Banjo-Kazooie couldn't even do half of the numbers of Mario 64 and Banjo-Tooie sold even less. Mario is just plain unbeatable, not even high-quality games such as Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze, Rayman Legend nor Crash 4 were able to outsold the wii u version of Super Mario Bros U XD
Would buying n64/GBA games really be that expensive as people claim? Sony currently offer their PS2 and PSP games for only 10 buck, and that's without considering the fact they can go on sales. Sega also had Sega Genesis games at 1 dollar on Steam before delisting them and stating their interest in subscription services...
You also have doom 64, which is sold on Steam for 4.99 and it's usually 1.24 on sales. I think people is just gaslighting themselves into thinking they don't need to have options.
@ScalenePowers But A Hat in Time and Undertale were released before the Nintendo switch generation .-.
Also, by the time Persona 5 was ported to Switch, almost every JRPG was already coming to the console, and then the Nintendo Switch ended up not receiving Persona 3 Reload. So...I don't think a late port of a re-release of a PS3 game really defined the console.
As a PC/home consoles supremacist, I had never thought about that... Do you guys really use handheld consoles while standing up like the dude in the picture?
They probably have the same amount of progress that they had for Bayonneta 3 when they first announced it, that's, they most likely only have the material for the teaser XD
@John_Deacon Metacritic does what it says on the tin, people just get so unreasonably butthurt by an aggregate score site. It's overall a pretty useful site to use from time to time.
Honestly, HD-2D is just plain inferior to 3D graphics, people only ask for HD-2D remakes because they don't believe that companies will do a good job with a more ambicious type of remake
A Chrono Trigger remake would be way better with 3D graphics, because some 8-bit pixels wouldn't do justice to Akira Toriyama's artstyle. I don't even know what's the point in using pixel art nowadays, they were supposed not to look pixelated in old TVs.
Also, that Bloom effect that square Enix use is awful, and makes all HD-2D games looks soulless.
@Astropez Weird, in the JRPG subreddit where I'm, this game is often brought up as an example of how to make a hood Indie Retro JRPG-inspired game. It's seen as Sea of Stars but good.
Kinda sad that a good performance on Switch has to be a positive point, it's as if people expect every multiplatform game to run like ass on switch, even if it's a remaster of a PS2 game.
It looks like every game is trying to pull off a No man's sky nowadays, even the infamous YIIK: A Postmodern RPG just released its own massive update.
Going back to Yooka layle, I hope they improve the placement of the feathers, unlike Banjo Kazooie, they weren't placed to guide the player through the levels.
This is just what they always do when they are focusing on the next console, they were also supporting the 3DS for a while with ports and minor releases.
@NintendoWife The game was also hated by fans due to the changes to the battle system, the addition of a stamina system, the structure of the story, and the lack of main plot progression.
@Ogbert It's an official main entry of the serie, they partnered with the current IP owner and the creator of the serie, just like LizardCube did for the remake.
@KidSparta Link already does half of those things XD
I think playing as Zelda isn't appealing because a Zelda game without sword combat sounds less fun, and the open world games proved there are no limits for what Link could do, he essentially could have access to any ability of zelda through his artifacts/Sheikah Slate Abilities. They would have to come up with a really unique idea instead of just BotW with Zelda to make her game truly interesting.
@Pipulitoch "If I remember correctly, to Sony; smartphone gaming was supposed to kill portable gaming. That didn't happen. There was a huge market for that. What we see today is the proof."
They kinda did thou, we no longer have "handheld games" after all, that's, games designed as smaller experiences meant to be played in short bursts. In the 3DS era we saw that people was starting to lose interest in handheld consoles, they were starting to perceive handheld devices and games as expensive, Nintendo had to drastically drop the price of the 3DS to save the console, and yet it was unable to surpass the PSP in sales despite basically having the whole market for itself.
Switch games are pretty much just home console games that can be played on the go, free-to-play mobile games pretty much replaced handheld games.
@Itachi2099 I think Sony could take advantage of the Xbox Series S existence. I imagine a portable PS5 would have similar specs, and therefore studios could use Xbox Series S versions of games as the base for the portable PS5 ones.
@Pipulitoch Leaving the handheld market was actually a very wise decision, it was just no longer a sustainable market and they just couldn't pull what Nintendo did with the Switch.
@Tempestryke Beethoven was already composing music by that time and his music didn't age. I don't think "Improvement" is the right word for an arrangement.
Only half million three weeks later? I'm curious about a sales update of Like a Dragon Infinite Wealth and Metaphor ReFantazio, because it seems like their games have strong sales the first week but then they quickly slow down, their games are usually 50% off in less than a year.
