@NintendoWife The game was also hated by fans due to the changes to the battle system, the addition of a stamina system, the structure of the story, and the lack of main plot progression.
@Ogbert It's an official main entry of the serie, they partnered with the current IP owner and the creator of the serie, just like LizardCube did for the remake.
@KidSparta Link already does half of those things XD
I think playing as Zelda isn't appealing because a Zelda game without sword combat sounds less fun, and the open world games proved there are no limits for what Link could do, he essentially could have access to any ability of zelda through his artifacts/Sheikah Slate Abilities. They would have to come up with a really unique idea instead of just BotW with Zelda to make her game truly interesting.
@Pipulitoch "If I remember correctly, to Sony; smartphone gaming was supposed to kill portable gaming. That didn't happen. There was a huge market for that. What we see today is the proof."
They kinda did thou, we no longer have "handheld games" after all, that's, games designed as smaller experiences meant to be played in short bursts. In the 3DS era we saw that people was starting to lose interest in handheld consoles, they were starting to perceive handheld devices and games as expensive, Nintendo had to drastically drop the price of the 3DS to save the console, and yet it was unable to surpass the PSP in sales despite basically having the whole market for itself.
Switch games are pretty much just home console games that can be played on the go, free-to-play mobile games pretty much replaced handheld games.
@Itachi2099 I think Sony could take advantage of the Xbox Series S existence. I imagine a portable PS5 would have similar specs, and therefore studios could use Xbox Series S versions of games as the base for the portable PS5 ones.
@Pipulitoch Leaving the handheld market was actually a very wise decision, it was just no longer a sustainable market and they just couldn't pull what Nintendo did with the Switch.
@Tempestryke Beethoven was already composing music by that time and his music didn't age. I don't think "Improvement" is the right word for an arrangement.
Only half million three weeks later? I'm curious about a sales update of Like a Dragon Infinite Wealth and Metaphor ReFantazio, because it seems like their games have strong sales the first week but then they quickly slow down, their games are usually 50% off in less than a year.
@sanderev "Nintendo is outselling sony 3:1 this generation"
Wasn't the switch released in the middle of the previous generation? .-. The PS4 sold 117 millions, so the switch didn't outsell that console 3:1, and the ps5 is probably going to have similar numbers by the end of its lifespan.
@Spider-Kev To be fair, it's not like Activision wouldn't have laid off those people anyways, like...that company was being run by the greediest and scummiest person in the planet. And the acquisition actually ended up backfiring on Xbox because Microsoft is now pushing them to become a third party.
@Dev1024 One millions of copies isn't that much for a Nintendo IP, they are definitely not bad numbers, but I could see Nintendo prioritizing other projects instead.
Honestly, I've never liked how the best family game category has always been so biased toward Nintendo games when it comes to nominees. Thou it's always funny when almost all the nominees are Nintendo games yet Nintendo end up losing against the only non-Nintendo game.
I think it's okey to let DLCs be nominated to GOTY. Elden Ring DLC is longer than most single player games and is also the highest-rated game this year, so I think there is no reason to say it's not worthy the nomination.(Can people even name other DLCs that would have had chance to get a nomination? DLCs with GOTY quality are pretty rare)
And anyways, being nominated not necessarily means it would be going to win, as a matter of fact, it would likely lose die to not-a-new-game "bias" unless the year had been really bad for gaming.
@Chimichanga I think it's pretty good how voting works in the Game Awards. Awards being decided by gamers is always a bad idea, people tends to forget the sh*tshow that the players choice category was.
"Geoff Keighley has announced that nominees for The Game Awards 2024 will be revealed on Monday, 18th November 2024 at 9am PT / 12pm ET / 5pm BST / 6pm CEST."
Awwww man, it looks like STALKER 2 won't make the cut to the award ceremony.
@PikminMarioKirby Nah, Paper Mario shouldn't been nominated to Goty. There is a difference between a remake that is a reimagination of the original game(Resident evil 2, Resident evil 4 and Final fantasy 7) and a remake that is closer to being a remaster(Paper Mario TTYD).
@Don The Switch Online services are just emulators running roms, Rare Replay is a collection of native ports/remasters, and some of those games are running through OG Xbox/Xbox 360 backward compatibility. They would have to make switch ports of all the games in that collection to bring Rare Replay to Switch.
@HeadPirate Xbox and playstation releasing their games on PC is different to Xbox releasing their games on their direct competitor. Also, like half of your examples were third party games, those games going multiplatform doesn't benefits Sony, the third party companies are the ones getting richer.
As for brand loyalty, well, people need to justify why choosing X and missing the games on the competitor was a good investment. If Microsoft started to release their games on playstation, then it would become choosing between the console with Xbox games and the console with Playstation and Xbox games.
Honestly, it sucks that they didn't include games from the PS2/Gamecube era nor the WII/PS3 era. Especially because they are better releases content-wise.
@NiallMitch14 the sphere's/pokeballs patent is also pretty silly, it's not a patent of the concept of throwing spheres to capture a creature itself, it's a patent of the act of doing it in a 3D space and in real time.
I think it's maybe too soon to laught at IGN. It currently has a 80 in Metacritic, so it seems like this is the kind of title we'll have to wait at least a year to see how people think it compares to the previous entries. Because once the honeymoon phase is over, people tend to change their stance towards a game, sometimes their opinions become harsher, and other times they grow to like a title more.
A case in point would be the Nintendo Switch Mario sports titles and how people now says they were lackluster.(Mario Strikers: Battle League even got a 9/10 in this site) Other examples include Tales of Arise, which was initially considered as one of the best Tales of games ever made but is now seen as a B-tier game by a big chunk of the community. Sonic Colors is also a great example of a game being considered great when it was first released but now most people think it was just OK.
"Flips classic “saving the princess” tope into a complex psychological horror"
I always forget this game is often described as a "horror game", but at least half of it is a comedy actually. Honestly, at first I was pretty disappointed when I finally tried it after every YouTuber overhyped it by being extremely vague and mysterious about what the game was actually about, but eventually I enjoyed it for what it was. The writting is genuinely hilarious.
@sketchturner Unlike the other Xenoblade games, Xenoblade Chronicles X is known for having less enphasis on story, it's mostly an openworld single-player mmorpg.
@Dunan The higher score that this port has gotten is 80/100, I think this article has a pretty good array of opinions. Yakuza Kiwami currently has a 74 on Metacritc.
Honestly, I didn't get why people was so hyped about this game. Wasn't this the title where most of Suda's ideas were scrapped by EA executives?(And I personally didn't like the sex jokes)
This was probably one of the most disapponting titles in gaming history considering it was made by a dream team of Suda51 and Shinji Mikami. And honestly, I fear history is going to repeat itself with HOTEL BARCELONA, a game made by a dream team of Suda51 and SWERY, which certainly doesn't look like most people was expecting...
Kiwami is just an ok game, it's the typical "wait for a sale" game, so it's the only case in the franchise that paying 20 dollars for feels like an appropriate pricing.(It reuses so much from YK0 that it feels like a DLC)
But anyways, Yakuza 0 is a better starting point both plot-wise and gameplay-wise. For me, Yakuza Kiwami was a 7.5/10, but without having played YK0 first it would have been just a 7/10.
This is one of the reasons why Yakuza Kiwami 1 is not a good starting point, it uses Yakuza 0 combat but without its learning curve, Yakuza Kiwami pretty much just gives you all the combat styles from the get-go and expect you to know how to use them.
Early game is quite hard even for people that played 0 first, the game really likes to have you fighting multiple enemies in small spaces, sometimes all of them uses unblockable weapons.(I'm talking about that awful fight at Serena)
Also, Majima Everywhere fights are more enjoyable when you played YK 0 first because he uses his moveset from that game, so that you can inmediately strategize based on your YK 0 knowledge instead of getting destroyed.
That aside, Yakuza Kiwami also has the weakest storytelling and pacing in the franchise, while Yakuza 0 offers one of the most engaging stories in gaming, and it also does a better job at setting and potraying Yakuza Kiwami characters than Yakuza Kiwami.
Thou the score may be a little bit low, this is a great review overall. Kudos to the reviewer! And overall, I recommend to wait for Yakuza 0 to be ported.
Honestly I didn't get why so many people was hyped for this game, that's, SaGa games are supposed to be ones of the most niche and divisive titles in the market. I was surprised at this one getting mainstream attention out of the blue, especially when the remaster of Romancing SaGa 2(which was already available on modern platforms) is considered niche af.

I'll wait for a sale, there are so many Square enix classic-like turn-based JRPGs being released that a 7/10 or 8/10 is no longer a priority.
