Re: CD Projekt Red Coy On Witcher 3 Upgrade For Switch 2

Zyph

I bought Cyberpunk on PC with DLC but eventually went to backlog hell. I might double-dip just for the portability and the mouse control novelty in case they decide to include the functionality.

Oh this is a Witcher 3 article? Cool cool.

Seriously though I never played a Witcher game aside from watching some episodes of the series but if they do actually make an upgrade pack I might just get myself a copy.

Re: Video: Switch 2 'Joy-Con 2' Magnet Strength Tested

Zyph

Well it was confirmed in the Direct (via Welcome Tour) that the new Joy-cons complete a magnetic circuit when attached to the console. So basically the controllers are using active magnetic attraction, hence the pretty sturdy/strong connection and the release button at the back opens that circuit. That said it might just be Nintendo overexaggerating a simple magnetic attraction between a magnet and metal piece and it's not really "active". We'll know soon.

I think there won't be any wear and tear anytime soon unless there's something wrong with the circuits themselves or maybe the plastic holding those magnets. Though the magnets are actually on the console rather than on the Joy-cons.

Re: Mario Kart World Is Reportedly The Smoothest Entry Yet

Zyph

@BenAV I would love to try out Prime 4 and World on my uncle's ginormously cool but very impractical 98" TV. Just seeing the hands-on, off-screen footage from the events the visuals are just so darn good. I think they even look better off-screen compared to the direct fullscreen video capture from the streams.

Funny thing about that TV is I almost dislocated my shoulder trying to help him wall-mount the big fella 😂🤣

Re: Mario Kart World Is Reportedly The Smoothest Entry Yet

Zyph

@BenAV I get you. I know people who can't perceive or notice these things as well. But for me I actually don't notice anything going from 144 Hz to 240 Hz

Too bad my 4K TV only supports up to 60Hz so if I want to experience 120Hz gaming it's either I play undocked or use my PC monitor.

Re: Switch 2 GameChat Choppy Frame Rate Explained By Nintendo

Zyph

This is one of the things that is clearly obvious and doesn't really need explaining imo. Having a service as intensive as a chat application constantly running while you play will certainly have impacts. Heck on a moderately built PC you get hiccups whenever discord decides to F you up on resources. Back then I usually just fire up discord on my phone and shutdown every PC service/app I don't use except the game just to avoid potential frame drops.

Re: Video: Street Fighter 6 Side-By-Side Comparison (Switch 2 & PlayStation 5)

Zyph

PS5 has a lot more bloom (too much IMO) and much more refined specular maps, volumetric fog, and Depth of Field. Switch 2 also lacks some motion blurring but not really important in a fighting game (I turn it off most of the time anyway if there's an option). SF6 on Switch 2 is looking pretty impressive! Lighting and textures are good! Interestingly Switch 2 has better anti-aliasing then the PS4 version.

Re: Cyberpunk 2077 Switch 2 Cross-Progression Confirmed, Performance & Resolution Detailed

Zyph

The hands-on off-screen footage of the game looks gorgeous. 7 weeks worth of development for this build alone? Damn.

This is great to hear though! A lot of news outlets keeps saying it's a confirmed 540p but seeing it from the hands-on event it was hard to believe. IMO the Cyberpunk footage in the Direct was not true 540p since it's edited heavily and super-imposed to show it running on handheld for transitional effect. Could be wrong though.

Tbf it's still possible for the game to drop resolution if it gets more intense but at least we have solid confirmation of resolution goals.

Re: Fast Fusion Brings Everyone's Favourite WipEout Rival To Switch 2

Zyph

@Ulysses A year I suppose. If they release a game you usually don't see Monolith release a second one on the same year. Since XCX just came out they would likely wait for another year or two. Even Torna and Future Redeemed were released almost half a year apart after the main games. At the very least I was hoping a teaser trailer or something for their next game. Maybe we could see one before the year ends.

Re: Nintendo Joins Cross-Industry Effort 'Accessible Games Initiative' As Founding Member

Zyph

To be honest all these companies, including NoA, ...I just see this as an addition to their long-term marketing strategies. Obviously more so for EA. It is what it is I guess as long as all parties and consumers get something out of it.

I doubt this is something we'll see in-game at least in the short term for Nintendo. This is, as far as I understand it, NoA's initiative and not NCL and the bulk of their games are made in Japan. I could see this as accessibility stuff just being printed and slapped on websites, physical/digital storefronts and the like.

Re: Atelier Yumia Update Intends To Address Optimisation On "Some Platforms"

Zyph

I really do hope that devs who are releasing games on the tail end of the Switch's life should take into account possible optimizations on the next hardware. I'm trying my hardest to hold off playing my recently purchased Switch games and wait for Switch 2. Not doing that to Xenoblade X though I need to play that game ASAP! 😂
Here's hoping Yumia has unlocked performance on Switch 2.

Re: Opinion: Pokémon Legends: Z-A Looks Cool, But It's Lacking Arceus' Unique Style

Zyph

I've enjoyed Arceus and Scarlet/Violet for what they are, so when I saw this I got pretty hyped ngl. Even if it means Z-A got the same style as the latter it doesn't really mean anything in the long run tbh. The new battle system looks pretty fun too and more dynamic compared to the rock-paper-scissor style battles in Arceus.

I'm not giving GF a pass for not upping their game much from a technical perspective but we also need to understand that this is still being developed on the OG Switch. You might compare it to the likes of Xenoblade X that's also on Switch but not all studios are the same and has the same level of proficiency. Pokemon is also a franchise that caters to both kids and adults so if you think about it graphical fidelity isn't really something that's on top of their list (crappy performance like in SV should be though...). A bit naive of me but that's how I see it. Having said that, they still have less than a year to polish things up and and yes I agree they should improve things such as textures and variety. At least they have some initial feedback now. To be honest my only real concern is why they didn't go with Gen VI starters 😆

Since this is still late in the year I'm hoping they'd add some enhancements for Switch 2 though.

Re: Nope, Monster Hunter Wilds Producer Still Won't Spill The Beans On A Switch 2 Port

Zyph

This is the first MonHun title I'm not excited about. Hopefully something different comes to the Switch 2 ala Rise.

With how Tsujimoto worded his statements, I'm guessing he doesn't want to put it on Switch 2 and just make something different. Capcom does benefit from 2 different MonHun games in a single generation so there's that. They technically supported both World and Rise in the last generation. When Sunbreak wrapped up and finally announced Wilds they basically shifted their marketing efforts on World again.

And yes, personally I think it's impossible they haven't learned anything about the Switch 2. I'm pretty sure they already have devkits in drawers somewhere.

Re: Opinion: The Okami Sequel Simply Has To Come To Switch 2

Zyph

It's funny because I played the whole thing on Switch exclusively docked and never tried the touch controls. Maybe it's just the nostalgia with my time playing the game on PS2 was just kicking in.

Maybe Kamiya just wanted people to try it using just the analog sticks since you still have that option on Switch and on modern consoles/PCs. Since he's an avid retro gamer I'm guessing he just prefers the use of control sticks.

Re: Talking Point: Which 'Tales' Game Will Come To Switch Next?

Zyph

Tales of the Abyss hands down. It's not an exaggeration that title was what introduced a lot of non-tales fans to the series in general. That game was peak! IMO had the best character development in an RPG. A sequel though would be great!

My second pick would be Tales of Xilla and Xillia 2. This was also my first purchase of a Limited Edition Tales game with the Milla Maxwell statue.

I would rather they outright reboot Zestiria. Bandai Namco certainly dropped the ball with how they handled the characters especially Alisha. I could handle the bromance (which my sister really loved 😆) in the game but the female characters here deserved better in my opinion. Mikleo aside, Lailah (RIP Miyu Matsuki) didn't even resonate much with the players which was a shame. I almost didn't bother finishing the game. A reboot is needed; it had potential, not to mention a fire soundtrack.
