Re: Feature: The History Of Monolith Soft - From Baten Kaitos To Xenoblade And Zelda

Zyph

I believe X was the culmination of what Takahashi intended for the Xeno franchise ever since Xenogears. An open, story-driven sci-fi RPG with full-sized mechs. It was his dream. He wanted to continue the legacy of Gears. Sadly, although financially successful, didn't get to be played by a lot of people. Hopefully the series can get the attention it deserves in the near future, not to mention a proper sequel. Though you can argue XC3 is more akin to Gears in story.

Re: Xenoblade Chronicles Studio Monolith Soft Helped Out With Splatoon 3

Zyph

Props to Monolith Soft Kyoto for the nice support for Nintendo's IP. The branch was set up to collaborate with Ninty internal dev teams afterall especially EAD.
Though I hope to see something new from the Tokyo branch even though they're the team that's providing assistance to BotW2; hopefully their rumored action game. After XC3 I'm thirsty for a brand new Monolith Soft IP.

Re: Nintendo Confirms That Splatoon 3's Shiver Identifies As Female

Zyph

Well even in Xenoblade 3, Juniper is almost certain non-binary based on how the game refers to the character which is pretty cool. But without official confirmation you don't assume these things and will only leave you with disappointment.

IMO regardless of the gender, we need to respect the designer who made the character and the vision they had with it. There's no reason to get disappointed in the first place.

Re: Hori Reveals The Split Pad Fit For Nintendo Switch, Pre-Orders Now Live

Zyph

The question pops up a lot when it comes to the use of gyro on handheld. IMHO it really depends on your usecase. If it's a game that you think gyro is critical to your style of play then regardless of the screen shifting/tilting you would still use it.

Honestly, even on handheld like in Splatoon, DxM, or BotW, I only ever use the gyro for precise aiming and not for wide camera control. So that slight screen tilt doesn't really impact my gameplay much, at least in my case. Gyro is the closest thing you can get to a mouse for precise aiming using controllers. I only bought the Split Pad Pro for games I prefer playing portably and for sure doesn't need Gyro controls.

Re: Reminder: "Next-Gen" Anti-Grav Racer Redout 2 Finally Available On Switch

Zyph

When it comes to high-speed anti-grav racers I might've been spoiled by Fast RMX which i still enjoy the heck out of even today. 30FPS just won't cut it for me for this type of racer. Games like Forza Horizon though is a different story and I mostly enjoy that for the environments and such, so 30 on that is quite alright.

Hopefully it won't be long before Shin'en comes out with a new Fast xD. Both performance and visuals are so good on RMX it's hard not to be so impressed with that game.

Re: Warframe Developer Reveals New Free-To-Play Action MMO Soulframe

Zyph

With all the weird and bad decisions DE made over the years with Warframe, they're really trying hard right now to lure back their lost playerbase. Warframe was one of the "best free-to-play" games back then and I really enjoyed my time with it. Now it's just riddled with nonsensical or straight-up bad content. Hopefully their new "frame" game gives a lot back to the players. I'm gonna keep an eye on this one.

Re: Nintendo Shows Off Xenoblade Chronicles 3 Expansion Pass DLC

Zyph

@Piyo Not defending them but we have no way of knowing if the DLC (except vol 1) was being developed alongside the main game or after the main game went gold. I do remember Nintendo mentioning that if they do DLC they still make sure the main game is complete despite having pre-launch expansion passes like with BotW and XC2. So we can't assume they just removed finished content and selling them later, therefore construed that the main game in unfinished. Games like Splatoon 2 and ACNH are different stories since they deliberately went for staggered content releases.

Even SSBU the main game is finished but the development was ongoing for the DLC up to Sora. Personally for that game, I thought the main game was quite polished at launch. I felt the same for BotW and XC2 since even if I didn't buy the DLC it felt they were complete games. I only bought the DLCs a year later.

So IMHO as far as Nintendo games are concerned, you don't need to buy their expansion passes and won't be missing out on anything.

Re: Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes, The Successor To Suikoden, Confirmed For Switch

Zyph

It sounds like they were waiting for a possible Switch successor before commiting which is fine and makes good business sense. But in the last article they were talking about technical due diligence with the Switch and whatnot so their reasoning doesn't really line up well. It's like they're just making excuses to not do it though I'm still happy they're finally bringing to Switch. This is the only reason I didn't back it initially.

Now I also have a good reason to get the spin-off game as well.

Re: Nintendo Files Patent To Combat Online Cheating And Software Modification

Zyph

@Richnj Unfortunately I can't cite you any sources aside from just giving out a generalized opinion. I'm sure it's the same on the other side of the argument. Though as a former software dev and currently a cybersecurity specialist I think I can give a valid opinion on the matter to an extent. I dabbled extensively with homebrew back in the 3DS and Wii days and tried to code apps myself although just personal, run of the mill projects.
What we could find on the internet are articles related to rampant piracy on Nintendo systems especially the use of flash carts and softmods. One of the ways they they could exploit the systems is by using tools and exploits created by the homebrew community (shocking!). I should know because I did it too. Thousands (or maybe millions I don't know) of illegal rom downloads versus the number of people in the homebrew community. I am inclined to lean towards the former in terms of number. I'll leave it at that.

Re: Nintendo Files Patent To Combat Online Cheating And Software Modification

Zyph

This is fine for me if this ever goes through. Sucks for "innocent" modders but modding from a security perspective could still potentially lead to exploitable vulnerabilities either in the system or in-game. Which in turn could expose exploits that can lead to cheating. It's an endless cycle. Like I said a bazillion times, there are more modders with the goal of cheating and pirating than modders that actually just want to enjoy homebrew and Nintendo are weighing their options from that.

Re: New Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak Weapon Showcases Have 100% More Insect Glaive

Zyph

IG best weapon. Disgustingly underrated. I love how utilitarian the weapon is. Not the best in terms of DPS but hey it's how you use it. I honestly think it actually got buffed instead than nerfed since they essentially removed the stop animations so that you can do more damage per second. Not to mention the more you do the aerial attack the bigger damage you inflict with diving wyvern. Compared to Iceborne the speedruns with this weapon in Rise are insane!
I also love how they gave the hammer the spinning top attack from HH.

Re: NoA President Responds To Alleged Working Conditions At Nintendo, Finds Reports "Troubling"

Zyph

Hopefully this gets resolved as soon as possible. It's possible that the problems just weren't that transparent to the higher-ups. If this was apparent from 2015(or at least the earliest the contractor was with Nintendo) then Reggie was still with the company and the problem already exists. Despite him saying it wasn't like this when he was still there. Unless this whole fiasco happened after he left. It's possible it just slipped his periphery. Not that I'm defending anyone in the company, just basing off from the official statements.

Time will tell.
