Re: Switch 2 Units Are Allegedly Out In The Wild, But You Might Need An Update To Play Games

@Mgalens Oh okay after reading through your comment again I get it now

Yes ever since that Don Mattrick fiasco everyone's on their toes whenever they hear something's "locked" behind an internet connection. And tbh that was really a concerning moment since the console would be calling home every now and then, so in a way I truly get how people are feeling now since I also owned an Xbox One. Sucks that memory is getting mixed up with a day one update.

@Mgalens I certainly get why people are upset don't get me wrong. But imo there are more pressing issues that anger could be directed at. At the end of the day, there could be tons of reasons why a device would require a day 1 update. It could be time constraints and they couldn't push updated firmware before they left the factory, or them just using the update as a deterrent for people breaking street dates. If I were to rank every single Switch 2 pre-launch "controversy" this certainly takes the bottom.

Most games launch after a system launch, so it makes sense to ensure some of those games function properly so a system update is needed prior to a game launch, no? It's the same with PC graphic drivers. Both AMD and Nvidia often release a major driver update before a popular game launch date. It could be the same here and Nintendo might just be gathering the necessary data for a more stable firmware at launch. Mario Kart World could have gotten updates after Switch 2 units left the factory. There are cases where Nintendo released system updates for games that sometimes normal game patches would not suffice. It's even possible that Mario Kart World will include the system update on the cart which they also did in the past. If the first concerns were Switch 1 games not playable on the new system, it makes sense because why would you use a feature that's "in-progress" pre-launch seeing that they're still working on their compatibility list.

A non-issue for me in this day and age. And some people are overreacting and thinking this is an online-only console. This is not an Xbox. You switch it on, update it, done. This isn't some major issue like with emulation and game-key cards and stuff. If a process as small as a day one system update ticks you off then don't buy it. I'm also gifting this to my nephew and yes it is my responsibility that it's updated and could actually play games right away before I give it to him.

Re: Exclusive: Fast Fusion Will Contain 12 Tracks, Free Content Update Confirmed

I'm excited to see how Ultra Quality looks like in person! But will mostly likely switch back to Quality mode just for the 60fps. I guess the choice of using 8K shadowmaps is for supersampling on both handheld and TV mode to achieve more detail. In my opinion it's kind of unnecessary especially on a small 1080p screen but hey at least we have options! Personally I would prefer them focus on screen space reflections rather than shadows. Awesome nonetheless!

I can't wait to pour hundreds of hours to this like I did with RMX 😆

Re: Nintendo Has "No Plans" To Use Game-Key Cards For First-Party-Developed Titles

Zyph

@Misima I get you, but imo ultimately it comes down to cost. Nintendo could stomach the added markup of silicon cards but we can't expect 3rd parties especially indies to do so as well. Right now there is no low-cost option to use unless we could find ways to use discs as a medium again and restart the conversation. I get it but I don't see physical media being in the forefront of anyone's priorities anymore unlike the old days.

Games are already expensive as it is I don't want them adding a 10 dollar tax just because they used an expensive silicon cartridge.

Re: Nintendo Has "No Plans" To Use Game-Key Cards For First-Party-Developed Titles

Zyph

Here's the thing. As games get bigger and bigger something like this was bound to happen. And honestly, even physical games today can't be played anymore without a day one update (and some are humongously large). So while I won't be supporting game-key cards but instead just opt for the full digital download, 3rd parties will either just put their stuff on the eShop or give us a code in a box, or outright give us a physical game unplayable without a day 1 update. Game-key cards are proven to be a good middle ground, in my opinion.

That said I'm still a physical game buyer. So as much as possible I'd still buy physical games. Partly because of storage economy and I like boxes on my shelf. But if digital is the only option then so be it.

Re: Xenoblade Dev Monolith Soft Is On The Hunt For New 2D And 3D Designers

@Bobb @MoldyPasta
The Kyoto office was set up to be close to NCL HQ and act as a support studio to assist in Nintendo's own games so I don't think a Xenoblade game or original IP is in the cards. Though their Tokyo studio was hiring earlier this month so still something to get excited about.

They also have a another support studio in Tokyo (assists both NCL and the main Tokyo branch) so 3 studios in total.

Re: 'Wild Hearts S' Switch 2 Release Detailed By Koei Tecmo

@Unit_DTH I don't mind really mind them tbh. It's just that I don't really sell any of my games so if I'm gonna get one I might as well just get the full digital download. What I meant is I need to plan ahead and maybe get an express SD card since so far there are a few games already I plan to get that'll fill up the internal storage fast including Wild Hearts.

Personally I just feel this new format is pointless unless you feel the need to lend or resell the carts.

Re: Nintendo May Record Video And Audio From GameChat Sessions On Switch 2

Zyph

A lot of other services do the same tbh it's nothing new. Still, people have the right to be concerned due to privacy and whatnot but as long as users behave and Nintendo has legitimate reasons to collect these data then I see this as a non-issue, especially if you're using it for what it's actually intended for.

Basically if you want to opt out then don't use the service and just use Discord (but!) or something. If you use it then you opted in and made your choice. One thing to note though is Discord and MS Teams (to name a few) could also record your voice and video chats/calls. So if you're a Discord user and disappointed with this news then you better read your favorite chat apps' privacy policies as well if you haven't already.

@Unit_DTH Just realized this is a game-key card release. Well that puts a damper in my plans. But let's see though. The game might still be fun enough for me to consider getting it but it'll be the full digital release since game-key cards for me are utterly pointless.

Re: 'Wild Hearts S' Switch 2 Release Detailed By Koei Tecmo

Zyph

@Unit_DTH Based on reviews I think it's a good game all things considered though I haven't played it yet. I'm pretty open-minded about these hunting-type games so I think I'll enjoy Wild Hearts for what it is and won't compare it to MH 1 to 1. I guess having already played games like Soul Sacrifice, God Eater, Toukiden, etc. helped me get a good grasp on what to expect from anything other than Capcom's offerings. I'm sure I'll find it interesting. The only problem is will it have a steady online player base.

Re: Accessory Manufacturer Genki Responds To Nintendo's Switch 2 Lawsuit

Zyph

@BenAV Agreed. I very much liked their products but they absolutely dropped the ball. Their continued Kickstarter successes must've gone to their heads big time. I mean who in Bowser's name would reveal a mockup of an allegedly leaked console before the actual reveal. Not to mention them saying they got their hands on a real one then backtracking hard when legal eyes were on them.

Re: Accessory Manufacturer Genki Responds To Nintendo's Switch 2 Lawsuit

Zyph

@Jeronan To be fair, I had a few that became faulty after a few months and they offered replacements for free. I get what you're saying man but chill. As far as I'm concerned they deserved what's coming their way but you need to check again. They have clear black and white privacy and refund/warranty policies on their website, not to mention an email you use to contact them, which I have done in the past.

A bit unrelated but Genki was actually the first to find out why 3rd party docks back then were bricking Switches and they even did a full write-up on Reddit and they did a video on it (hence the Convert Dock, the first 3rd party dock that actually works). They proven they do quality stuff but what you're ranting about I think is more about how they present themselves as a company than what is actually being discussed here. What did anyone expect from a company that started out doing Kickstarter projects? Again, they deserved to be sued after the crazy stunt they pulled but let's go back to the topic at hand, not their management of websites and the assembly lines.

Re: 'Wild Hearts S' Switch 2 Release Detailed By Koei Tecmo

As long as it's off EA's hands then as a big MonHun fan, sure I'll give this one a go. At least until a new Monster Hunter comes out on Switch 2. I played a lot of Toukiden back in the Vita days so hopefully there's some of that in Wild Hearts.

Re: Rumour: Ubisoft Might Already Be Teasing More Switch 2 Games

Zyph

@Medic_alert Well to be fair you can't really physically fit a full disk on a handheld, yes? It's really either the costly option or a full digital platform ala Steam Deck, Rog Ally, etc.

As much as I loathe game-key cards, it's the only middle ground to incentivize 3rd parties to bring their games "physically" over the Switch 2; via the cheaper, smaller sized cards. At least that's what I think. Having said that, I still believe 3rd parties, particularly the big ones (Sega...cough cough Capcom...cough cough Square...), are just cheapening out and being lazy. They could have easily ate the cost of the bigger-sized cards.

At the end of the day, you can't really blame either party. But of course a large portion of the community still want to push the blame to someone. Nobody wins.

As far as JP pubs are concerned, I just hope Bandai Namco would stick to having their games on-cart since they have a pretty good relationship with the Big N all these years. Ubisoft and EA on the other hand, I wouldn't be surprised if they only offer game-key cards on day 1 until the end of time.

Re: Round Up: Multiple Switch 2 Game Pre-Order Trailers Released

Zyph

@cosmograph Yeah I'm not entirely opposed to digital (I still won't switch fully) since there are games that I want to be on the ready any time. SF6 or fighting games in general doesn't eat large amounts of your time and I enjoy playing them on short bus/train rides. The thing I'm worried about is the 50+GB file size, it's crazy.

Re: Atlus Reveals 'RAIDOU Remastered' Switch 2 Performance And Resolution

Zyph

I'm beginning to think Atlus should have just went with a Switch 1 port and not even bother with Switch 2. I mean, they're practically identical minus the fps! A bit of a lazy port if you ask me. And not to mention the Switch 1 version has the full game in the card (I think). Maybe Sega just being cheap as usual, I dunno.
