Re: Best Tetris Games, Ranked - Switch And Nintendo Systems

X68000

Tetris DX was far more than just a colourised upgrade as stated in the lazily cobbled together description.

Music is different.

Gamemodes are Marathon, 40 lines and Ultra for DX instead of A-type and B-type (though Marathon is basically A-type, not the modern 150L).

DX also has an account system that tracks your "power" (read: your single/double/triple/tetris ratios in recent plays) and a VS CPU mode.

DX has a much faster DAS and pieces don't lock as soon as they touch the ground.

I believe DX's Marathon has a different speed curve than GB's A-type, but I know for a fact it caps at level 30. Score also has an extra digit in DX.

DX has a different rotation system.

You can save your current run in DX by pausing and turning your console off. When you turn it back on, you'll be given the option to continue where you paused.

@KeeperBvK Man, that's an old discussion, I'm amazed it's still going.

The PS1 version lacks the slowdown, even with wait set to on (which is supposed to replicate the PCB's slowdown) doesn't slow it to the same extent as either the Saturn or the PCB. It plays faster more consistently, which , ultimately is a taste thing as some people prefer it even though it makes the game a fair bit harder than both the Saturn and the PCB.

Sound on the PS1 is the best by a fair way, even better than the PCB, which in turn is better than the Saturn.

There are differences in presentation that are both different to the PCB, also a taste thing, but I would say the Saturn's is the closest to the PCB with the scrolling score table and main menu text content.

The Saturn has the better Yoko version and can switch to Tate while the PS1 is Yoko only.

The PS1 has faster load times, not massively, but it's far closer to the PCB in that regard with the Saturn lagging half a second to a second behind.

Ultimately it's down to taste.

Re: Nintendo Lowers Its Hardware Forecast As Switch Sales Slow To A Crawl

X68000

The Switch will always be seen as a hybrid console, so history will be skewed regardless of where it's sales figures end. The PS2 will remain the biggest selling dedicated home console, the switch will end up the runner up to the NDS.

The fact they have managed to shift these numbers for a dated system even at launch with zero price cuts is astonishing.

Human made some great games series, especially for the PC Engine and Super Famicom.

Fire Pro Wrestling
Formation Soccer
The Fireman
Final Match Tennis
Septentrion (SOS)
F1 Circus
Clock Tower
Vasteel

A unique company who had their own school and many of their games were developed by their own students. They even developed the first ever rhythm based video game on the Famicom in the 80’s.

Re: Nintendo Expands Switch Online's SNES Library With Four More Titles

X68000

@kevinm360 the arcade game was released a couple of years earlier and was a typical superscaler sit down style game. This was a nasty port in every respect. I doubt it was seen as an Outrun for the SFC since they were very different games and F-Zero was already released. Top Racer/Top Gear was probably the first decent outrun inspired game on the system, but that was still some way off at that point.

Re: Rumour: Switch Successor's Codename May Have Been Uncovered

X68000

@Nintendo_Thumb so PS2, PS3, PS4, PS5 didn’t work out for Sony?

If Nintendo call it anything other than Switch 2, the average person with no prior knowledge will just assume it’s just an add on or upgrade to their existing system. It’ll be the Wii U all over again.

Re: 50 Best Game Boy Color (GBC) Games Of All Time

X68000

The description of Tetris DX proves they haven't played it describing it as the same game as the original GB one, only in colour.

It controls far more tightly and accurately. Play them side by side and the diffence was huge.

More love for Super Mario Land here too.

The sequel always felt off and sluggish. Loads more content and graphics similar to the SMW but it was too zoomed in with a small playfield. The Mario animation is strange too. He always looks like he's running with a stick up his @$$
