I'll be getting this new model just for fun and because a close cousin wants a Switch and I told her that she can have my current one minus the dock for $100 (damn good deal).
That way I get a decent upgrade and docks for both the spare monitor and the tv.
I did cancel my Switch preorder but only because the Steam version was announced last month and I rather play this kind of game at a higher resolution.
I have a gaming PC I keep updated every few years with mid to top tier parts (currently features a 1080ti and a 2600X) but I still love my under powered Nintendo consoles for that Nintendo game experience sprinkled with niche indies and Japanese 3rd party games.
I really don't see this as an issue tbh, but I do think doing a $299/$349 TV only unit that has a GTX 1660 class gpu in it would do wonders for scalable 3rd party ports.
Same games could be played on the portable unit but will obviously not play that great overall.
I'll be buying a copy of this sometime later this summer. I'm also glad they targeted 60fps on Switch with it.
Sometimes its games with silly ideas like this that are over the top in their presentation that makes them irresistible and fun. Playing a game like this doesn't compel me to go out and fondle young girls or anything (can't stand pedos at all).
Plus video game and anime girls aren't real anyway. /shrug
N64 is the one console that aged poorly IMO. Its crappy AA and obscene frame rates in most 3D games just doesn't do it for me anymore. Especially 20 years ago when I got my Dreamcast and I had a hard time finishing MM, Banjo 2, Conker, Jet Force Gemini, etc, after playing 60fps god tier arcade games.
The more N64 games that get the 3DS/Switch remaster treatment the better IMO.
While we already had a Genesis through all of 1990, I got my own for my room on Xmas 1991. That was the last time I ever received a console as an Xmas gift and nothing will ever top that feeling for me.
Well, I did get the VB in 1995 but I accidentally found it while cleaning the house, diminishing the feels quite a bit.
Man, its been so damn obvious how many of these 3rd party pubs have been frothing at the mouth to go digital only or GAAS to keep everything in their control.
I hope it all beautifully backfires in their face at some point.
Great game (beat it several times already back in 2016) but not worthy (IMO) of a $35 physical premium to play it again for the portable factor. I would be playing it docked anyway and that's kinda pointless when my PC is right next to my Switch.
Rereading this review, it removed the cool new stuff added into the 2016 version and just redid the game to be more like the original arcade version with some more improvements.. I'm really fine with that but it should have been left a choice IMO, cause now you can't even buy the version I own on Steam anymore. Those unique boss fights were much better than the same old head guy.
I'm still down for a potential physical version later on but will buy the new version on PC later on at some point.
I put about six hours into the Steam version and that one was slightly more messy than this improved one. Even with a pad that had some input lag, I beat the game twice and got a few levels into survival mode. I actually think the game is good enough to buy again but I want a physical version.
Edit: I think people are harping on the visuals too much. Not every game needs to be an exact old-school pixel fest. I say that as a 39 year old oldschool 2D game fan that used to be hyper picky about that crap.
I dunno, I was thinking about cancelling my preorder for this one because of its seemingly bland looking block maze levels.
Edit: Went ahead and cancelled it and preordered the next FFXIV expansion instead. I have enough stuff left to play on my Switch as it is until Mario Maker 2 comes out.
With the official Nintendo Pro Pad, we could have a definitive experience with an A+ dpad, Voip, etc, but instead they decided to doink the dog instead.
Same thing with varying joycon versions.
instead I have to use an unofficial Chinese pad (the excellent quality 8bitdo controllers btw, double excellent for dual PC use too) that wipes the floor with their efforts.
While I enjoyed my Game Gear and the 20+ games I owned, I always went back and enjoyed my Game Boy even more. The only system I liked more than the Game Boy was my Neo Geo Pocket Color (I had the entire collection x2 and sold it before it got rare, womp womp) and its superior control stick and fighting game library.
Going back and forth from my Game Boy Color and Neo Geo Pocket Color from 1998 (I imported the monochrome NGP first) to 2001 was damn good handheld gaming times.

Re: RPG Illusion Of L'Phalcia Brings Turn-Based 3D Battles To Switch Next Week
Its pretty bad when Evolution on DC back in 1999 looks better than this.
Re: Hori Announces New Line Of Officially Licensed Accessories For Switch Lite
I want an overlay for the front that's only usable in handheld mode and replaces the dpad with the Joy-con directional buttons!
Re: Resident Evil 5 And 6 Shamble To Switch This October
Capcom really has no shame in abusing the partial download crap on a smaller game card.
Mega Man 11 remains my only Capcom game purchased on Switch and will likely stay that way.
Re: Nihon Falcom Lacks The Ability To Release More Games On Switch, Says President
Kinda sucks for people that exclusively play on Switch but I have their games on PC so I'm good.
Falcom really is just leaving money on the table at this point though.
I'm not buying his obvious BS excuse either.
Re: Pre-Orders Open For 8BitDo's "Most Advanced Controller" Ever
I've been waiting for these things ever since I got the SN30 Pro Gameboy edition.
Still never had any of the dpad issues others complain about. Over sensitive analog sticks however....
Re: Review: Senran Kagura: Peach Ball - A Shiny Casing Full Of Used Pinball Machine Parts
I did cancel my Switch preorder but only because the Steam version was announced last month and I rather play this kind of game at a higher resolution.
Re: Random: Zelda: Wind Waker Mod Replaces Link With WarioWare's Ashley, And Has Its Own Theme Song
That title got a good chuckle out of me!

Re: Langrisser I & II Switch Remakes Secure Western Release
Easiest preorder ever I've done for a NIS title.
Re: Ghostbusters: The Video Game Remastered Will Be A GameStop Exclusive In The United States
@brandonbwii
Its also a great version in its own right. I wish we were getting a remastered version of that as well.
Sticking with my Steam copy of the original.
Re: River City Girls Brings Classic Beat 'Em Up Action To Switch This September
Physical on Switch later confirmed is an easy buy for me. I'll get it on Steam as well.
Re: Hatsune Miku: Project Diva Mega39’s Announced For Switch In Japan
Finally, I was expecting ports of the PS3 and Vita versions much sooner though and disappointed those never happened.
Day one!
Now get ever rumored Steam version of the arcade games out too.
I put about 130+ hours into Project Mirai DX
Re: Senran Kagura Peach Ball Gets Down And Dirty On Switch This July
Keep up the good fight, guys. I've been fighting online against the prudes since the mid 90s.
I did cancel my Switch pre-order but only because I rather play it on Steam with possible better resolutions. /cries in Bon Apetit
Re: Pre-Orders Now Live For Hori's Dragon Quest Slime And Daemon X Machina Switch Controllers
I had the DQ8 slime controller for PS2, I think I'll pass this time...
Re: Trials Of Mana Coming To Nintendo Switch, Collection Of Mana Out Now
Ordered my copy on Amazonian a few hours ago! I thought the wait for a physical copy would be much longer than August tbh.
Re: We're In Awe Of Hori's Massive DAEMON X MACHINA-Themed Switch Joy-Con
Awesome, cool, sweet! Oh, it lacks everything I still want in a controller and is handheld only to boot.
goes back to 8bitdo SN30 Pro GB
Re: Dragon Quest XI S: Definitive Edition Gallops Onto Nintendo Switch This September
I passed on playing the Steam version (4k60fps) just to be able to play this unique and awesome version.
Re: Zelda Spin-Off Cadence Of Hyrule Launches On Switch This Week
@Old_Man_Nintendo
I built my best friend and brother $1100 PCs and gave the friend (who is broke.......he can't work mind you) my old Switch.
Please get over yourself.
That being said, I'm waiting for a possible physical version.
Re: Raiden V Is Getting A Physical Release On Switch, But Don’t Dilly-Dally
Ehhhhhhh, I'll stick with my Steam copy. Wasn't that impressed with it either TBH.
Re: Limited Run Announces Multiple Physical Game Releases For Nintendo Switch
Freedom Planet
Blaster Master not being a collection of 1 & 2 just kinda turned that off for me. I'll just buy another copy on Steam instead.
Re: Video: Digital Foundry Compares The Switch Version Of Octopath Traveler To The PC Release
@hihelloitsme
Very much agreed! I love my Switch but I love 4k 60fps even more.
I'm glad I waited on picking up the game.
Re: The Grandia HD Collection Is "Coming Soon" To Nintendo Switch
Grandia is my favorite JRPG of all time tied with Chrono Trigger, Phantasy Star IV, Lunar:SSSC, and Skies of Arcadia.
I'll be getting the Switch version if it has beautiful packaging. Otherwise Steam at 4k it is.
Probably both!

@N64-ROX
Oh yeah! Lol I forgot about the Powercbase Converter.
Re: Sega Surprises With Mini Mega CD, 32X, And Cartridges For Sega Mega Drive / Genesis Mini
Its only missing the Game Genie!
This will be the first retro mini console I buy.

Re: Hands On: Building Upon A Solid Foundation In Super Mario Maker 2
Yup, my preorder is still going strong on this one!
I'm still upset that we still haven't gotten a Deluxe port of 3D World (please package it with spruced up 3D Land levels) yet.
Re: Momodora: Reverie Under The Moonlight Receiving A Limited Run Physical Release

I'm down for a standard edition
Re: Review: Castlevania Anniversary Collection - You'll Want To Get Your Teeth Into This
@Darth_Pascal
That's why I'm holding out for a potential physical version on Switch while I already bought it on Steam.
I'm patient

Re: Retro Shoot ‘Em Up Cotton Making A Surprise Comeback On Switch
@Paperboy
looks at prices for the various versions
Holy sh....
I owned the clam shell NGPC version along with the TGCD one as well.
Anyway, fantastic game and I will be getting this version!
Re: Devil May Cry For Switch Is The Same Game Featured In The 2018 HD Collection
Yeah, I'll stick to my super cheap Steam collection if they want to play the piecemeal the customer to death game on Switch.
Anyone who pays more than $10 for this is a fool.
Re: SNK Releasing Transparent Neo Geo Mini To Celebrate The Samurai Shodown Series
If they had the same quality buttons and sticks as the original Neo Geo CD and Pocket I'd be all over the Nakoruru version.
Oh well
Re: Cadence Of Hyrule Listing Appears On The European Switch eShop
Will hold out for a slim chance of a physical edition
Re: Random: 23,000 Fans Petitioned To Get Reggie A New Chair, And It Worked
@Krisi
TBF, its a very nice chair and I was thinking about grabbing one of Amazon last year.
I've been using this early 80s wooden chair since 2003 and I think its time for an upgrade. That chair has been through 30000 hours of game time!
Ignore the anime crap, I did that to annoy someone on another forum https://i.imgur.com/2mmK7Zv.jpg
Re: Western Switch Release And Pricing Confirmed For Wonder Boy Returns Remix
I put a few hours into the PC version and this version looks even more refined and improved!
Will holdout for a potential physical version
Re: Capcom Has "No Plans" To Release A Physical Edition Of Devil May Cry On Switch
And I'll stick with the digital PC version I got for free then. No sweat off my back, Capcom.
Man, some of these pubs are really adverse to western physical Switch editions lately.
Re: Feature: What It’s Like To Run An Online Game Store In Japan
I really regret selling my Saturn, PSX, Dreamcast, TG16, GBA, GC, and PS2 collections before the retro boom 5-10 years ago.
I had a lot of rares as I was mostly a niche Japanese game player (still am).
I still have some GBA and GBC boxes in great condition though

I've always heard (and still do) it as "So longsy Bowser"
Re: Random: Yoshi's Woolly World Composer Keeps Sharing Negative Tweets About Crafted World's Soundtrack
I agree with the guy even though I still bought and enjoyed the game. How the current OST was allowed to be released is beyond me.
Re: EA Has “No Plans” To Release Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order On The Switch
That amazing Star Wars Pinball collection is more than enough for me on Switch. I'll get get Fallen Order on Origin at some point.
Re: Limited Run Games Teases Lumines Remastered Physical Release
One of the few times I prefer a title to be digital for quick game swapping for a couple quick games.
i.e. Pass for me
I had it physical for the PSP back in 2005, does that count?
