Re: Nintendo Focusing On Switch Install Base To Combat Next-Gen Performance Gap

TurboTEF

I have a gaming PC I keep updated every few years with mid to top tier parts (currently features a 1080ti and a 2600X) but I still love my under powered Nintendo consoles for that Nintendo game experience sprinkled with niche indies and Japanese 3rd party games.

I really don't see this as an issue tbh, but I do think doing a $299/$349 TV only unit that has a GTX 1660 class gpu in it would do wonders for scalable 3rd party ports.

Same games could be played on the portable unit but will obviously not play that great overall.

I'll be buying a copy of this sometime later this summer. I'm also glad they targeted 60fps on Switch with it.

Sometimes its games with silly ideas like this that are over the top in their presentation that makes them irresistible and fun. Playing a game like this doesn't compel me to go out and fondle young girls or anything (can't stand pedos at all).

Plus video game and anime girls aren't real anyway. /shrug

Re: Hyperkin's Next Party Trick Is A Nintendo 64 Clone

N64 is the one console that aged poorly IMO. Its crappy AA and obscene frame rates in most 3D games just doesn't do it for me anymore. Especially 20 years ago when I got my Dreamcast and I had a hard time finishing MM, Banjo 2, Conker, Jet Force Gemini, etc, after playing 60fps god tier arcade games.

The more N64 games that get the 3DS/Switch remaster treatment the better IMO.

Its only missing the Game Genie!

This will be the first retro mini console I buy.

While we already had a Genesis through all of 1990, I got my own for my room on Xmas 1991. That was the last time I ever received a console as an Xmas gift and nothing will ever top that feeling for me.

Well, I did get the VB in 1995 but I accidentally found it while cleaning the house, diminishing the feels quite a bit.

Re: Review: Wonder Boy Returns Remix - A Remake That Really Does Go Back To The Beginning

Rereading this review, it removed the cool new stuff added into the 2016 version and just redid the game to be more like the original arcade version with some more improvements.. I'm really fine with that but it should have been left a choice IMO, cause now you can't even buy the version I own on Steam anymore. Those unique boss fights were much better than the same old head guy.

I'm still down for a potential physical version later on but will buy the new version on PC later on at some point.

I put about six hours into the Steam version and that one was slightly more messy than this improved one. Even with a pad that had some input lag, I beat the game twice and got a few levels into survival mode. I actually think the game is good enough to buy again but I want a physical version.

Edit: I think people are harping on the visuals too much. Not every game needs to be an exact old-school pixel fest. I say that as a 39 year old oldschool 2D game fan that used to be hyper picky about that crap.

Re: Feature: The Game Boy's Biggest Rival Gets Revived By The Modding Community

While I enjoyed my Game Gear and the 20+ games I owned, I always went back and enjoyed my Game Boy even more. The only system I liked more than the Game Boy was my Neo Geo Pocket Color (I had the entire collection x2 and sold it before it got rare, womp womp) and its superior control stick and fighting game library.

Going back and forth from my Game Boy Color and Neo Geo Pocket Color from 1998 (I imported the monochrome NGP first) to 2001 was damn good handheld gaming times.
