Seriously, SMB2 was like a virtual playground of what can I get away with while playing. From 1988-1992 I exploited the hell out of the game and learned a lot of the little shortcuts and glitches on my own.
Anyway, I got my own NES in 1988 but we had one in the house all of 1987/88 with Gyromite, Punch-Out, SMB, Duckhunt, Super Pitfall, and Mega Man. It belonged to my uncle that was staying with us at the time.
I agree and I never played that portion of the game either. So I get a portable version of the best 2D Mario game (IMO) and a game I never got while on the Wii U. I've double and tripled-dipped on worst games TBH.
The Shantae and the Pirates Curse (my 3rd time buying it, already have the 3DS and PC versions) physical was a total waste of my money compared to this purchase.
That fact you got downvoted makes me lose faith in people wanted a great gaming experience on a machine that does 60fps MK8 in portable for a game in the same genre.
If the Switch version turns out to be a turd, I'll just have to wait for the eventual PC release.
Also, I feel very sorry for anyone that missed out on CTR back in 1999 as it was better than any kart racer on the N64.
I've always just turned these games into horizontal shmups and played them sideways. Too much work to rotate my monitor or Switch just to play a few games.
I only double dip on certain titles on my Switch, otherwise I stick to indies on PC where I can probably still play/download these 20+ years later. If I can get a favorite on physical for my Switch, that's even better though!
I'm glad these guys are doing better on the Switch though. Some of these brilliant titles deserve the success.
I'll be honest with you, I don't like the KS cover art. Sometimes the regular edition has better art IMO. Your game looks pretty damn solid though and I'll probably snag it.
@Equinox
Yup, seeing these overly-sensitive self-loathing types ruin three of my favorite forums in the past 10 years with their absurd demands and constant complaints has earned nothing but my contempt for them.
Kinda sucks to hate other liberals as a liberal but it is what it is; I hate political correctness and censorship with a passion. Seeing that Sony censorship stuff happening is bringing the 90s (and Wii U days) back and not in a good way.
One good thing about this news article is that I get to finally exercise the ignore button!
Well said and I still prefer the Genesis's sound chips/synth over the muffled sample-based SNES's. A lot of fan based music created today for it shows just how under-utilized the sound capabilities were used by most lazy western devs.
I still owned both consoles (and a TG16 and TurboDUO) and still really loved my SNES though.
I really wanted to get the LE version but ultimately passed because I wasn't impressed with a few of the NISA anime (the subpar Cardcaptor Sakura BD set still irks me and looks terrible)/PS2/PS3/WiiU LEs I bought in the past.
I still have the regular edition preordered for $33 which isn't too shabby at all.
@zool Pretty much, the switch is essentially just a tablet pc using a simple SoC. Games can scale on each new and old unit if programmed to do so. That makes sense if you paid attention to the time frame Nintendo wants to keep the Switch relevant as well as their 10(20 was it?)+ year contract with Nvidia.
I'll gladly take an improved Switch for improved portable mode performance alone.
LOL, great response! I'm #3 but want the graphics that my PC can power to such a unit. The Occulus Quest is the kind of product that really will push VR more into mainstream at $400. Its not impressive compared to a tethered PC unit but its doing some pretty advanced stuff for a SoC standalone unit.
As much as I loved watching this meme happen and spiral out into orbit, the character needs to remain a fan only entity. Keep that art coming though, both clean and dirty!
Oh boy, another boxy platformer with wall jumping, buzzsaws, double-jumps, and lots of spikes.
At least the protagonist looks interesting and goofy and not another cutesy anime girl (I love anime girls in video games but yeah, can only take so many of them).
@Trajan I got the VB as an Xmas gift and enjoyed it still. The Saturn was pretty solid for its first year and a half too. I got the PSX in early 1996 and the N64 in early 1997.
PSX was still the best console of that generation and if I knew what I did now, I would have skipped the Saturn and only rented the N64 for Mario until Zelda came out in late 1998.
While I definitely like and very much prefer the graphical fidelity we have today (even 2D indie games like Momadora IV, Freedom Planet, Rabi-Ribi, etc look better than 2D games from that time period did), I still very much like that 1994-1999 32-bit aesthetic. That gaming time period as a teenager was almost magical and I couldn't wait to see what was going to be shown next. Even the Virtual Boy and 32X got my imagination running towards potential and mysterious delights.
I collected bottles, mowed lawns, and worked on a farm (1995-1998) to get a Sega Saturn in early fall 1995. I got a Virtual Boy for Xmas that year. Love it all and got made fun of for my Virtual Boy!
I can still appreciate stuff like this, and its very nice to see indies stray away from the overused 2D (still love it btw) stuff for a change.
If they're physical releases, I'll get World of Final Fantasy (PC version runs at 30fps anyway, lol)and Chocobo's Mystery Dungeon. If FF:CC is looking that rough and not running at 60fps, I may opt for the PC version. . Kinda sad for a 2003 GC game to be looking like that in an "HD remaster" Its still early though so anything can change tbf.
Physical (if an option, if not, whelp...) on Switch or 4k and other toggle-able goodies on PC. Very tough choice!
I got Grandia 2 for my DC in January 2001 and played it non-stop for two weeks. Great game but I still liked the first one (one of my top 5 jrpgs of all time) much much more. I followed it up with Evolution 2 oddly enough
That reminds me of the one time in late 1988 when my mom and her two girlfriends broke into a Detroit factory area that handled glass soda/beer bottle recycling.
They came back with with multiple bags and then took me along with their two girls and made us carry some back as well. It was very dark, smelly, and lots of broken glass everywhere. Very exciting tbh! They almost got caught too, lol.
They ordered three large pizzas, got pop and beer, and rented a Nintendo (Super Pitfall, womp womp) game for us.
I always hated stupid decisions like that and I've had that rom (and hundreds of other SNES, Gens, TG16, NES etc) for 15+ years now. Poop on them as well, for not giving me the same deal for preordering it on Steam earlier this year.
Its a super subpar fighter (the SNES game mind you) anyway, so really no reason for me to be salty.
When you want to buy Thunder Force IV for Switch but don't want to get expensively piecemealed as usual. I'm still holding out for a potential physical Neo Geo Collection on the cheap later on.
I'll probably end up buying it along with the other Technosoft games Sega got the rights to
@Dezzy Now this is a pretty level-headed response I can agree with. I agree that the main games should be on Switch as well, but I kinda don't mind either since I just buy em on Steam.

Fantastic game, if Switch is the only way you can play this, have at it! I may buy it again for portable play!

Yup, it got too controlling and corporate for my tastes, plus my four favorite runners were banned. Haven't watched it since 2016.

Re: Feature: Creating The Ultimate Game Boy
@BionicDodo
Seriously, using the NGPC micro switch thumbstick was amazing and I wanted that bad boy on my GBC back in late 1999.
Having a joycon option of that would be amazing!
Saying that, I still have no issue playing any 2D game with the regular direction buttons.

Limited use and overpriced. Hard pass for me and I'll stick with Joycons and 8bitdo stuff.

The Team Ninja game is going to be so much better than the last two. Instant preorder for me!

Re: Random: Sneaky Smash Bros. Fans Rejoice At The Sight Of Princess Peach's Knickers
Good ol' silly perverted gaming time!
Back in early 2015 I did a 3 hour test to find out which WoW and FFXIV female races had the best breast bounce while walking/attacking/etc.
WoW - Undead/Dwarfs/Pandaren
FFXIV - Miqo'te/Huer
Re: Limited Run Games Releasing Physical Editions Of Celeste And Windjammers

Re: Dead Or Alive Xtreme 3: Scarlet's First Trailer Shows Exclusive 'Soft 4D' Joy-Con Feature On Switch
I might buy it just to keep my general anime degenerate status I've held since becoming an anime fan since 1991.
Game will be a damn trash heap though.

$20 or bust! I only want this for the Arwing and maybe play the Star Fox portion once.

Re: Video: Smash Ultimate's Coming, What GameCube Controller Should You Get?
I've always hated the GC controller with its stupid face buttons and stupidly small d-pad.
I'll be using the regular joy-cons as I vastly prefer the shorter range on those analog sticks for faster/better movement.
Re: Rumour: There Doesn't Appear To Be A Switch Physical Edition For World of Final Fantasy Maxima

Oh well...
Re: Soapbox: I'm Causing The Slow Death Of Gaming Magazines, And It Hurts
I miss them but can live without them anymore tbh. Nothing is ever going to beat 1992-2003 for me with EGM, Nintendo Power, GameInformer, and GameFan.
At one point in 1995-1999 I had the following magazine subs:
EGM
Nintendo Power
GameFan
GameInformer
Sega Visions
Ultra Game Players/PSM
Dreamcast Magazine
