Re: Talking Point: Which Version Of Zelda: Link's Awakening Is Your Favourite?

TurboTEF

I got the original when it came out (and again in late 1997) and then the DX version with the purchase of my GBC in late 1998. Fantastic game and my most replayed Zelda game, and tied with WW for my favorite Zelda game.

I have to go with the Switch remake of it though because the beautiful graphics and QoL improvements just make the experience that much better after so many replays of the game on the older hardware.

Re: The First Review For Kirby's Return To Dream Land Deluxe Is Now In

TurboTEF

@Sora181 Not at all, almost all the 2D platformers I owned on the PSX and Saturn were 60fps:

Rayman
Clockwork Knight 1 & 2
Astal
Hermie Hopperhead
Mega Man 8 (both console versions)
Mega Man X4
Tomba
Klonoa
Yoshi's Story
Mischief Makers
Silhouette Mirage (owned both the import Saturn and PSX versions)
Castlevania: SotN (PSX and Saturn import versions)

Many more

Not really the gotcha you think it was, man. I avoided 30fps 2D games on the SNES and Genesis too and only got a couple by mistake without renting first.

Re: The First Review For Kirby's Return To Dream Land Deluxe Is Now In

TurboTEF

@Sora181 Its a 2D Kirby game that runs at 30fps, hard pass after I tried it out. 2D 30fps games have been no nos for me for over 25 years now. I only bought Metroid Return of Samus to support the series, but won't play it.

Return to Dreamland looks better than Allies, runs at 60fps, and I skipped the original on the Wii. Easy easy buy for me!

Re: Review: Capcom Fighting Collection - An Essential Buy For One-On-One Fighting Fans

TurboTEF

@Rykdrew My man! Nightwarriors was an instant buy on my Saturn in 1996 after playing Darkstalkers in the arcade in 1995. I instantly fell in love with Felicia and she's been one of my top video game women for almost 30 years now!

The Saturn port was almost like an impossibility at the time, one of the few times where the full arcade+ experience was at home without much compromise. I had the fortune of picking up a new pair of the superior smaller Saturn pads too.

So yes, my Switch copy will be here Friday and I'll be getting the Steam version too.

Re: Puzzle-Platformer Pompom Announced For Switch

TurboTEF

While I'm a bigger fan of the Genesis (even as a Nintendo fanboy) and all of the excellent Genesis style indies over the years, I do appreciate that a platformer is coming out that apes the mighty SNES pretty well.

I'll buy on PC and then hope for a Switch physical if its good.

Re: Anniversary: Super Smash Bros. Melee Launched 20 Years Ago Today In North America

TurboTEF

Not my favorite Smash (I put more time into the 3DS version of Smash 4) but you better believe I picked it up that day and put 100s of hours into it with my best friend for the following 4-5 years.

Ultimately though, I'm just not a fan of platform fighting games and will probably skip the next one.

Capcom Vs SNK 2 (Xbox version for online, but also owned the GC one too) remains my all time favorite fighting game

Re: Record Of Lodoss War: Deedlit In Wonder Labyrinth Is Coming To Switch This Year

TurboTEF

@marandahir

Ooooooh, it always warms my heart to see an anime fan that really knows their stuff and you've obviously been around the old school block enough to make an epic list like that.

I still hope for blurays (I have two Lodoss series on bluray) of Rune Soldier Louie and Crystania. Too much good stuff from the mid 90s to mid 2000s still not released on the format. I had the DVDs 15 years ago.

Anyway, bought and played this on Steam and will definitely double-dip for a physical release of this awesome game.

Re: 16-Bit Cult Classic Valis Is Getting Rebooted On Nintendo Switch

TurboTEF

Owned all of the Valis games across all platforms back in the early 90s.

Valis III (Genesis version: better sprites, pacing, and backgrounds) and Syd of Valis (SD Valis) were my favorites and most replayed in the series. Super Valis IV was great too IMO.

Yes, I'll be getting this even if it has the inferior (IMO) versions. Gotta support the old favorites no matter what.

And yeah, Syd of Valis is a mediocre game but oddly re-playable and charming in its own right. I beat it about 20+ times

Sheesh, one of the few times I can say "kids these days" and I hate using that dumb phrase.

I paid $30-40 each when these came out in 1999 and 2000 and they are still worth that price today IMO.

These are waaaay better (IMO) than the actual arcade Metal Slug games.

I got my physical copy coming sometime this year.

Highly recommended!

Re: Where To Pre-Order Nintendo Switch OLED Model

TurboTEF

@Sdelintwouters When I went to go preorder the White model from Target back in mid-July, it suddenly got very busy at work and missed it by a minute. Five minutes later I suddenly remembered that the Black model existed and got that with a few minutes to spare.

Kinda reminded me of the Gamecube launch when I wanted the purple model but Meijer sold out of it. The last 30 people in line all got the Black model instead.

Re: Nintendo Confirms It Won't Be Attending Tokyo Game Show

TurboTEF

@Pokester99 Lots of great games coming out at a decent pace. Switch doesn't need a new game from Nintendo every month of the year, let along every 2 or so months.

I remember waiting in the early N64 release lulls and yeah, those were actually complaint worthy. So glad I had a PSX and Saturn that featured more varied and better (IMO, double so for fighting, 2D action, and RPGs) games to compliment my N64 games.

So sit back relax and enjoy some great games coming out soon. I have Wario Ware, Cruis N Blast, and Metroid coming within the month alongside my LRG preorders.

Re: Round Up: Here Are The First "Hands-On" Impressions Of Valve's Steam Deck

TurboTEF

@Fath

Well said, Nintendo Life should be covering the Deck (lawl) as much as possible because its an exciting device that compliments the Switch very very well. I've been Nintendo/PC only since 2008 and this thing only makes that current experience that much better even though I'm passing on the deck for now and just sticking with my PC and Switch.

As a former Sega and Nintendo only rabid fanboy, people that still foster that childish mentality shouldn't be catered to. Hopefully NL just ignores those types and let them toddle off elsewhere.

Re: Poll: What's The Best 2D Sonic Game?

TurboTEF

@Ron22

Yeah, I really wish they had used its original name (I think its cooler) but Genesis did stick with people more and rolled off the tongue better.

That being said, the 2D Sonic games I played the most were the Genesis and GBA games. I probably beat Sonic 1-Knuckles 30+ times from 1991-1995, half that with the GBA games.

Re: Dark Fantasy Metroidvania Ender Lilies Launches On Switch Today

TurboTEF

I paid $80 for Super Mario 64 at launch with a smile on my face. $70 for FFVI, $80 for Phantasy Star IV, $70 for both Earthworm Jim games, etc.

Lets not get into all the various Gameboy, Game Gear, and Neo Geo Pocket games for $30-40 that featured less content, graphics, and music than something like Ender Lilies, etc.

I did wait for some eventual $15-25 bargain priced games (January 1994, Shinobi III and Gunstar Heroes for $20 a piece) Meijer and Walmart would do after a few months though, but it was usually done to niche games and poor sellers.
