Following on from last week's listing, it has now been officially confirmed the physical copy of Ghostbusters: The Video Game Remastered will be exclusive to GameStop in the United States. It is priced at $29.99 and pre-orders are now open on the GameStop website.
This remastered version is based on the 2009 game, which reunited the voices of the original movie cast to provide fans with an extremely authentic third chapter, following on from the events of the 1984 original and 1989 sequel.
A cartoon-like adaptation of this game was previously released on the Wii, but this time around on the Switch, Nintendo fans will receive the full-fat version. In case you missed the remastered announcement, here's the reveal trailer:
Tell us in the comments if you'll be picking up this title from GameStop when it is released.

Such BS...screw GameStop. The day they go under will be a glorious one.
Hmm, I hope this doesn’t become a trend with future titles that I actually care about
Ew... just, ew. That is all.
Oh man this is going to be a problem, as I quit going to Gamestop a long time ago. Does anyone know if this game will have a digital version? I really don't want to buy from these guys due to numerous experiences where they sold me a used game and pretended it was new. Seriously did they think I wouldn't notice that a disc has been used? I've been gaming before most of their employees have even been born.
Game Stop trying to stay relevant in the era of Amazon and online stores in general.
Yeah, good luck with that.
Like it or not, the era of dedicated stores like Game Stop is all but over. Either you have major department stores like Walmart or Meijer or you have small specialty stores dealing with retro products and specialty items not carried by major retailers. Outside of that, you have internet orders.
I could use some store credit about now. I'm ok with this if it means getting some type of physical release.
@Onion I hope there’s a digital version. No Digital = No buy!
I wish gamestop would stop doing this.
Will it have wireless play? Just noticed Friday 13th doesn't! At least for me that kills my purchase because I really intended to use the games for lan party purposes.
Of all the places it could have been exclusive to, it had to be Gamestop.
This is one of the few times where I hear people consistently asking for a digital release over a physical one.
This sucks. But at that price I will still be buying. Would’ve preferred to get it for $24 with GCU.
Nice. I skipped the original in 2009, so this will be a nice addition to my Switch library.
@PBandSmelly Same here, pretty much. I mean there’s walmart, but as anyone with a rural Walmart can attest to, good luck getting an associate to help. My GameStop has friendly folks, too. And I’ve also never had the issue of the whole gutted new case, either. If I want something new, I’m preordering a copy because I knew I wanted it awhile ago.
Stupid EB Games. I pre-ordered it, because I had to, but I ain't happy about it...
If you wouldn't offer us $12 or $14 for our used games that your going to sell for $55 people wouldn't hate you so much Gamestop. Well that and not being the most expensive place in town to buy video game products.
Wont this also be digital to though.
I'm looking forward to playing this version of Ghostbusters game. Also were is the release date for it?
@RedderRugfish yep.
@BacklogBlues
Then why you sell your game for 12$ and buy used games there for 50?
There are a lot of other ways to buy or sell used games... anyway I never sell my games.
@Onion Similar incident happened with me. Dude tried to sell me a "New" copy of Mario tennis aces and part of the label on the cart was ripped off. When I called him out he literally just said "Well don't buy it then" Never stepped in that store again.
@RedderRugfish hmmm I'm not sure why i start thinking about Metroid Trilogy and Xenoblade Chronicles...
This never ends well. But what Digital is for.
Screw Gamestop! I will download it digitally before I give them any money.
UK here. Is Gamestop like Game in the UK? Just wondering why some people claim to hate it so much.
@BacklogBlues That’s one of the reasons I dislike GameStop. Especially if you’re selling a console the trade in value is ridiculous compared what you could get selling it yourself ( usually) on eBay or some other platform. You end up paying for that convenience with a quick trip to GameStop. I also find that they’re not competitive with other retailers- they rarely have sales that are meaningful.
I'm definitely getting this since I love the movies and even like the newest movie since the original cast made cameos in it. Looking foward to this
The amount of butthurt being felt by the lady ghostbusters of 2016 is immense right now!
Oh man! I totally forgot this was coming to switch. I just got real happy, folks.
@PBandSmelly Well, I feel for ya, I really do. But years of their particular practices has led to this disdain that's ultimately unanimous, with some small glimmers of light, but not many. A 10 year old game getting re-released physically through one store is just...ugh. For the thing is, I have a couple older games I could trade in, but either I won't get hardly a dime for them, or they just won't accept them at all, which sucks. For there is also an indy game store 20 minutes away that I've done hella good business with in the past, always given me awesome deals for the things I bring in, but sadly this one won't be one of 'em. Think I'd be better off just getting the PS3 version again and calling it a day.
Ghostbusters wasn't a very good game anyway.
@mist its almost like they "dint count" 😂😂😂
@Mommar really? I really enjoyed it and its definitely the best Ghostbusters game we've ever had and starred the original cast, what more could you want?
I don’t care where I have to buy it, as long as I get to play it!
Will this get a retail release in Europe?
Why the hate on Gamestop/EB Games exclusivity? Surely exclusive has to be desirable over the market that companies such as Limited Run, Super Rare, and Strictly Limited have created. Super small print runs, limited availability...get it or forget it. Don't get me wrong, I think retailer exclusivity is ridiculous, timed or not, but I'd rather know I can grab the game somewhere, as opposed to the race against time at these niche Switch game producers.
Hoping the $30 physical pricetag means we're going to see digital for $20.
Because console exclusivity wasn't enough. I wonder with what they will come up in the future. Maybe the game will only be sold to people who's surname starts with the letter Z?
I played it originally on PS3. Decent but nothing more. Unless I hear this here remaster is exemplary I'll give it a wide berth.
A nice remaster for the film's 35th. Digital for me. The heck with Gamestop
Lol I couldn’t give a 💩 about this game or gamestop
It would have been great if they included the Wii style graphics as well. I have a soft spot for that.
@brandonbwii
Its also a great version in its own right. I wish we were getting a remastered version of that as well.
Sticking with my Steam copy of the original.
I don't @zocker-hias i buy and sell 99.9% of my video games on Ebay. And usually i get 25% to 300% more for them. Maybe 1 out 100 times Gamestop offer a dollar or two less than what their going for on Ebay. In those instances it's not worth it to pay for a Bubble Envelope and gas to take it to the Post Office. But like i said Gamestop being worth it almost never happens but i do check online to see what they'll give me before selling it on Ebay so i do know their prices.
I would like a cartoon grapics and "wiimote" option on that game please.
Me: I'd like this game please, can I get a new copy?
GS Employee: (rumble through drawer, pick a loose game and put it in an empty case...)
Me: Sorry, but I asked for a new game...
GSE: Oh! It's brand new I assure you! We're just keeping them here in this drawer...
Me: Unsealed with the game card out of its case?
GSE: Yeah, in case we need the box for display purposes.
Me: And how can I know it's brand new?
GSE: I told you it's new.
Me: Yeah, you told me, but the cart is out of the box, I have no way to tell if you didn't bring it home last night to try the game and got it back this morning...
GSE: Oh, we're not allowed to do that.
Me: Doesn't make a difference. Your boss may not know if anyone played it. The only thing that can truly guarantee the game is new, is it being sealed up in its box. Otherwise, you can't guarantee me it is new. There would be no difference between new and used.
GSE: Would you like a used copy instead?
Me: Your "new" one may be already used for all I care. If I bring you my games in their open cases, and tell you they're all new, would you believe me? Of course you wouldn't. So I don't. Listen, I'll do a deal with you. You keep your "new" game, and I'll go shop elsewhere, ok?
Thing is, Gamestop is one of the worst place out there to buy games (and to sell them). I rarely (if ever) find good deals in their stores, stores often don't respect their own advertised promotions, and when trying to sell them games, they give you $2 for a game they're currently reselling for $45 (true personnal experience). Add to this their whole selling of openned, unsealed games as "new".
Physical copy being a Gamestop exclusive is actually a very good reason to buy this game digitally. I'm not encouraging these crooks.
@Realnoize
Apparently not all stores are the same. My local one usually gives sealed copies for all my preorders with the exception being if it's the last copy which was used as a display but it is new not used (you could argue that once it's opened its uses but that could also be true at clothing stores if you try on clothes there would that mean the clothes are also used?)
@Realnoize
I never had that issue with Gamestop although I am not a big fan. They are indeed a poor imitation of the video game stores of old. EB and the others did a much better job of creating a great environment for gamers. I tend to buy my games, physically, at other stores now. I did preorder Dragons Quest from them though.
That being said I am firmly against non physical games when possible and I simply amazed people will not get their butts off the digital couch to go to a store where people earn money to ignore you so they can spend their paycheck on random useless junk you may make at your job. The Amazon economy will not support you forever.
Perhaps I should buy 10 copies in the hopes it will be like the Blockbuster exclusive Final Fight Guy on the SNES.
I'm just really curious, do people actually feel like Walmart and Amazon are better places to shop? Walmart have been stealing our money, destroying local economies and abusing their employees for decades now, and Amazon are basically not going to rest until they own the Earth. Keeping in mind that these companies and TRU already killed every independent game store, and the video game makers themselves are collaborating to destroy the secondhand games market, what better alternatives do we have again?
I do some game shopping at Target, basically because they have better marketing that makes me feel like they are slightly better than Walmart, but I'm not under any delusions that they are actually a nice company. These are megacorps, they are predators by definition and if you think they are nice and ethical and give a damn about their consumers you need to have your head checked.
@Zidentia
EB Games in Canada is owned by Gamestop, and is the exact same as Gamestop in the U.S. There are also a few Gamestop stores in Canada, but they are the exact same as the EB Games ones. I assume at some point, EB games will just cease to exist and all these stores will become Gamestop.
I actually have fond memories of going into EB games many, many years ago (PS1 days), as they had good prices back then, even on their used games. It was simple, there wasn't any stupid point cards and memberships to save 10% more on used games or other crappy nonsense like that. You didn't feel like the store was ripping you off and pressuring you into stupid warranties or buying used copies instead of new ones. Back then, I felt the chain was legitimately interested into videogames, as in, not just a product to sell.
Fast-forward to these days, where I get insulted by one of their clerk for not being into Smash Bros...
Times have changed.
@JasmineDragon
I don't think Walmart or Amazon are necessarily better places to shop. I know these are a threat to local economy, and I usually buy local whenever I can. Just not at Gamestop, which is probably as soulless a corporation as those anyways (just not as big).
But economy aside, Walmart clerks aren't throwing insults at me because I don't like a specific game, the games they sell as new are actually new, they actually do occasional sales on new titles and if I see a game sold for less elsewhere, they won't ask me to go to hell and will match the price. They also honor the sales and promotions advertised in their own flyers.
Which isn't the case for the 2 or 3 Gamestop (EB Games) stores in my region.
Also, Gamestop do most of its money on used games sales, which, with games sold almost at the same price as new ones, canibalize new games sales. When I buy games, I like that part of the money actually go to those who made it, not 100% in the pockets of those who just sold it to me. I love games, so I try to support the game industry that provides me with the games I love to play.
So I agree Walmart and Amazon aren't better alternatives. But I'd be willing to buy at Gamestop if I felt they really had my interest at heart, as a consumer. But they don't.
I'd much prefer buying from more "local" stores, although ones specialized in gaming are now few and far between...
@Realnoize Fair enough, and I'm sorry you had that experience. I guess that has happened to other people at Gamestop, too. Personally I've had mostly pretty good experiences with GS employees in my area. Most of the people I've met there have been friendly and decent at customer service.
The chain definitely makes a practice of ripping you off on tradeins, I'm not even going to argue that. I pretty much stopped trading games since it's hardly ever worth it.
I don't go to Gamestop often, usually just to grab stuff that's not in stock elsewhere that I don't wanna wait on. Last year I snagged Stern Pinball Arcade from there just because it was the ONLY place I could find the game for less than 80 bucks.
@BorderlineJon From my understanding, not generally. GameStop have been accused of all sorts of underhanded practices, I believe, which would explain our friends across the pond's opinions of it.
Game certainly isn't perfect, but I've not heard quite as much complaint about some of their practices.
@RedderRugfish: Ruining sealed copies is the way of Gamestop and the main reason I don't shop there anymore, although I WILL be picking this one up from them... begrudgingly. 😒 (maybe).
Seriously, why the hate on GameStop? I swear, you digital fanboys really get on my nerves.
Such bs, but... Money. But as far as Ghostbusters goes, I have a slightly off-topic question: will the game be retooled to have two player at least? Or will they stay at one player affair? I'm getting it either way, but it would be nice if they could make it two player like the Wii version...
Overrated game. Those first few levels are awful.
So no digital version at all? Or do you just mean physical versions are only game stop?
Do Gamestop ship to the UK? I wonder....
They have them in Ireland.
I wish every pricey last-gen games would get remastered.
It's a better value than paying almost $30 for older games.
Most of PS3 Spider-Man games cost more than I would prefer.
@Pj1 It’s now available for pre order on uk Amazon just pre ordered my copy and it looks like a uk release not an import.
@backinthegame Thank You I've pre-ordered it, December 31st release!
@Pj1 you’re welcome, same here. I find there are not enough updates on the 3rd party games that get articles published on here still waiting to find out any news on bulletstorm duke of switch and alien isolation got my copy of Witcher, ghostbusters, buldars gate, neverwinter nights, planescape, doom eternal and wolfenstien Youngblood all on pre order. I missed out on machinarium as that was with strictly limited games.
@backinthegame just in case you missed it,
release date for G B https://www.nintendolife.com/news/2019/08/ghostbusters_the_video_game_remastered_secures_a_spooky_october_release_on_switch
@Pj1 thanks I had already pre ordered it from amazon they emailed me a couple of days ago informing me that they have brought the delivery date forward to Oct 4th. Thanks though for the heads up.
I haven't set foot in a Gamestop for years until last Friday. I preordered a physical copy. I will not buy anything digital. If this had been digital only it would be a hard pass.
I was also delighted to buy a hard to find Wii U game that was complete and in fantastic shape too.
