NIS America has today revealed a western release for the Langrisser I & II remakes on Nintendo Switch. The legendary strategy RPG series will be making its comeback in "early 2020".
Both games are featured in a single collection and have been entirely remastered with HD graphics, re-orchestrated music, and quality of life improvements. We've got some key features for you below:
- A Blade Honed to Perfection - Experience two classic titles with new art, music, and presentation.
- Modernizing a Timeless Tale - Perfectly re-tuned gameplay for a modern SRPG feel.
- Langrisser and Alhazard - Two legendary swords, two legendary tales--brought back to life with new localization and a new character!
The announcement also brings with it news of a limited edition release; you can actually go ahead and pre-order it already from the NISA online store for $79.99. It comes with the Langrisser I & II game for Switch, a Visual Book, a 2-disc soundtrack, a 3-disc Songs of War soundtrack, a collector's box, and collectable art cards.
Excited for this one? Are you happy to see that the games have made it over to the west? Looks like Fire Emblem: Three Houses will be fending off a new rival next year.

It'll be awesome to try this series at last.
This is good news, i tried the demo in .....Japanese didn't get far but am a fan of the series.
That's really cool. Will be giving it a shot for sure.
Warsong was one of my favourite games on the Megadrive so I really can't wait for this and as much as I like Fire Emblem, I always preferred this series
Ok I'm crying now. My fave mega drive game and I never played the sequel! Gah The switch just gets better
If this does well maybe we will see remakes of Langrisser III-V.
@GrailUK with this and Panzer Dragoon coming (plus the Megadrive collection) and of course Rolled Out (if it comes) most of my favourite Sega orientated games are going to be on Switch 😁
Jackpot. Colour it one of my most anticipated 2020 releases already.
@GrailUK the sequel - or, to be precise, its SNES remake whose legacy I dare assume was preserved here as well - more or less pioneered branching storylines in the genre. Never left Japan but got an unofficial translation. Back in the emulation days, I beat one branch of it before a whole bunch of my SNES saves went south, and it was quite a memorable experience.
Never heard of this series.
A two-disc soundtrack and a three-disc soundtrack?
Played Warsong a lot, tried the 3ds game but it was lackluster. This looks like a day one for me
Finally. Been a long time coming. Was wondering when this would come to the Switch.
That is one hell of a remake. It looks great. Never heard of the original, but if I find myself wanting more like fire emblem, I know where to look.
@nhSnork @carlos82 Amen. I get to play the Secret of Mana sequel and now Langrisser 2. I am utterly beside myself.
The more RPG's the better. lol
My poor poor wallet.
Awesome, now if only the Grandia HD Collection got physical release like this as well.
Never played either of these, but I've been hungering for some tactical role playing. I'm interested.
Sold, sold, sold.
It looks a lot like fire emblem heroes the mobile game but Langrisser. It’s not a bad thing! It’s just hard to not notice the similarities in the animations and stuff. Obviously this will be deeper and more tactical (and better!) than the phone game but the art style is strikingly similar.
This looks interesting. Argh! So many new games!!!!
@retro_player_22
...or of only we knew anything at all about the Grandia collection...
Wow never played this series before. I love strategy rpg's so this collection should be a no brainer. Making time for all these games is tough, but it's great seeing old games getting a remaster!🙌🏼😀
@retro_player_22 I think it's a given one of the limited edition companies will release it. Limited Run, Super Rare and others are just as passionate about games as we are.
Ugh. The new character designs look terrible compared to Urushihara's work on the originals, and the in-game graphics remind me of Fire Emblem: Heroes.
I'll be passing on this.
@Ralizah You can toggle the artwork I believe.
@GrailUK REALLY.
Character portraits, or the whole look of the game?
Even just the classic character portraits would be huge for me.
@Ralizah The portraits. (I mean come on man, the game was never a looker anyhoo lol, the tactical gameplay was the hook!) There was a limited edition version where you could change the artwork portraits and the music to more original flavoured versions (even it's box had new artwork from Urushihara, and it looks to be the same box for our release so, yeah,I would imagine we get the toggle too!)
Oh yeah! As a Fire Emblem fan, I'm very excited to have a Fire Emblem game to buy at 2020.
I need 1tb sd cards to drop into a reasonable price range.
I'm looking forward to this more than High School Emblem.
I don't think Fire Emblem has anything to do worry about, Langrisser has never been much of a contender. With that said HOLY CRAP I AM SO HAPPY THIS IS COMING! Nothing is stopping me from getting this game. Of all the recent Langrisser games, I'd say this is one of the better looking ones. It's also great that the teams behind the new Langrisser games are themselves fans of Langrisser who grew up playing it in China. The Langrisser series died out a long time ago but now the fans it created over the years are reviving it. It's awesome.
@Ralizah
Yeah there's a classic mode that changes all the portraits into their classic artwork, they announced it a while back. It changes basically everything to better resemble classic Langrisser including the map.

Honestly I can't wait for this to come out so I can finally ditch Langrisser Mobile.
Update: Swapped the youtube link out for a better one. The actual battle sprites are the only thing unchanged in Classic mode so far, but I imagine it won't matter much once you start class changing.
Having put a good ammount of time in the Langrisser mobile game I can't wait to try out the original games.
@GrailUK Do you imagine the artwork toggle will be in every version or only in the limited edition versions you were referring to?
Not sure if I should get Limited Edition or not. Hmm....
@Porky I don't know I'm afraid. It's still early doors so plenty of time to find out. I would have thought it too much hassle to bring two versions west lol
Easiest preorder ever I've done for a NIS title.
Shame the collector's edition isn't better. two soundtracks is a bit much for one CE. I felt like a better item could be replaced than a second one. I'll just get the normal edition.
