If you've been left frustrated by Nintendo's lack of options for voice chat support with the Switch, this new controller may well be worth a good look.
First revealed at the beginning of April, the new Faceoff Deluxe+ Audio Wired Controller from accessory maker PDP features an audio jack for game audio and integrated in-game chat - which is sorely lacking on Nintendo's official controllers - and onboard audio controls which let you adjust your sound on the fly. You can use it with headphones for all games on Switch, but the voice chat feature is naturally restricted to those games which actually support it, such as Fortnite.
It has been licensed by Nintendo and comes in Black Camo, Blue Camo, Purple Camo and Red Camo colourings for a recommended price of $24.99, and it also features two additional programmable buttons on the back and interchangeable faceplates. You can pre-order your own right now from either pdp.com or Amazon - it releases on 22nd July.
We've always thought that the lack of an audio jack on the Switch Pro Controller was a strange omission, especially considering rival platform controllers have them built in as standard, so this new release could be just what the doctor ordered.
What do you think? Will you be picking one up? Let us know in the comments below.

Kind of tempting, but I already have wireless headphones I can use with my Switch, and I don’t ever use voice chat, so it would be a bit of a waste of money for me.
No no no and no.
Good idea, being wired instantly kills it for me though. Hope we get a 2.0 pro controller with a jack soon!
might buy it just for my brother because he plays fornite with his friends
@LunarFlame17 wait how? Which headphones are you using?
@StarViruZ Lucidsound LS30. I don’t think they make them anymore, but there are other wireless headsets that work with the Switch, including, weirdly enough, Sony’s official PlayStation wireless headsets. They have an adapter that plugs into a USB port, so you can only use them in docked mode, but I don’t mind using wired headphones when I’m playing in handheld mode.
But does it have rumble?
This would be helpful for when I’ve used my Switch with my monitor. I had to sit close so I could plug my headphones into my switch in the dock which wasn’t very fun
Oh it's wired.
No idea why those types of controllers are even made any more but ya... pass.
It's so sad that this controller even has to exist. Good job dropping the ball, Nintendo.
But yeah, wired controller? Hard pass.
Shame that it cannot be used for all games!
There controllers always seem to have some features while neglecting others. Do we know if it has motion control, for example. My guess is no.
With the official Nintendo Pro Pad, we could have a definitive experience with an A+ dpad, Voip, etc, but instead they decided to doink the dog instead.
Same thing with varying joycon versions.
instead I have to use an unofficial Chinese pad (the excellent quality 8bitdo controllers btw, double excellent for dual PC use too) that wipes the floor with their efforts.
I already have USB wireless headset, Corsair VOID. Plus, it doesn't look like this has gyro for splatoon or even basic rumble
@LunarFlame17 which headphones do you use?
@N8tiveT3ch Lucidsound LS30
Weird, but cool. Too bad Nintendo didn't do this from the beginning or hasn't by now.
Hope the jacks are better than those crappy XBox One controller jacks. I've had to replace them in 3 controllers in about 2 years time.
@redd214 or you could get a bluetooth dongle and a pair of low latency headphones
I'm not desperate for voice chat in Fortnite while playing on the TV. Because let's face it, it is the only game we can voice chat. Nintendo games have almost zero appeal since it all goes through specific modes in each game. Just make it automatically chat available through app Nintendo.
@EpicGamenator yup, that's certainly an option, not one im interested in though but thanks for the suggestion
Too bad MHGU doesn't have voice chat available...
Wired. Wired? Why(rd)? Controllers have been wireless for ages.
Red Camo.... Gamer's generally speaking have such terrible aesthetic taste.
Lol I use a dac, amp and proper headphones from the TV optical out. I can't imagine what kind of hissing or other limitation using an in-controller dac/amp for $25 would generate. As convenient as it would be... hard pass.
No more wires in my cave
Already have the homespot bluetooth adapter that I can use my wireless headphones both docked and handheld. No need for any wires anywhere. Really, considering that Switch doesn’t have bluetooth support for audio, that $80 pro controller should have had that audio jack from the very start. Now we get one that’s wired? No thanks. I looked for other options and found them.
The words "about time" and "ugly as sin" immediately come to mind.
But you still have a cord between you and the Switch.
Wish it was wireless like on PS4 and my Xbox 1 controller on PC.
You still have a wire running across your living room.
My controller's had a mic in it ever since Hey You Pikachu.
For every 2014 feature they are trying to do in 2019 they kept falling a decade behind.
@LunarFlame17 Sony's wireless headsets also come with a wire so you can use them in docked mode too. I thought no I have the gold or platinum and use them wireless for the dock and wired in handheld mode.
Not really tempting for me. If Im using headphones, Im probably holding my switch as well, so no need for an audio jack. Also, If Im playing a game with heavy social features, ill be doing it on pc.
@getyourak more like companies are under the firm belief that gamers have bad tastes. Every gamer I know has said something in the past like "I want a gaming chair, but none are just black." Or "why do all these headsets light up?"
Who cares about audio jack on the controller when I still have to be tethered go to dock to plug the controller in? Had this been a wireless controller with audio jack, I’d have been all over it.
Corded and for that price it will be garbage.
I might look into this, but I don't really care all that much.
Can someone suggest decent wireless headphones I can use for voice chat?
It's bizarre how the Pro Controller doesn't have a headphone jack, they aren't exactly costly, and it'd sweeten the deal further considering the price.
@EasyDaRon So the company does not want to pay extra licenses for bluetooth? It would add costs but increase sales in my opinion.
I was really excited about this controller when I first read about it, but quickly lost interest when I learned that it's a wired controller. 🤦♂️
What the heck would I need a wired controller for? This is not 1999!
Guess I'll be staying with my Pro Controller and BT adapter for now... until someone combines those two devices into one.
This isn't OEM Pro controller but 3rd party with cable connection. I'll pass I already have wireless headphone/mic setup for Switch.
Number of games I play with integrated voice chat: 0.
Don't think I'll need this, but it might be nice to not sit right next to my Switch for my headphones to reach and to adjust the volume.
I'm baffled by the hate-on and confusion of wired options here
Good on them for trying but.... corded.
What i did for my children who play fornite is just but an extra long male to female jack for their headsets... And to be honest they still don't bother with it... So again, meh for corded.
Maybe next gen Nintendo will figure out how to do voice chat.
@CaPPa Nintendo knows how, they just don’t seem to like the feature or it’s an after thought that they think no one wants. I say this because Gen 6 pokemon had the PSS feature and voice chat, and they ripped it out with Gen 7.
what games actually support in-game voice chat though? when will i ever make use of this for anything other than using headphones for audio?
"I'm not desperate for voice chat in Fortnite while playing on the TV. Because let's face it, it is the only game we can voice chat."
I believe there are four games that support native voice chat: Warframe, Fortnite, Paladins and Smite.
My favorite feature of the DualShock 4 is the headphone jack.
Least favorite feature is the poor battery life.
Doesn't the Switch support BlueTooth? Why don't BlueTooth headsets work with it?
@blecch It's not really clear. The most common excuse I get is that, because the Switch can, technically support 8 controllers at once it would strain the Switch to also support Bluetooth headphones.
Tempted but the wire makes it iffy. I need a ten-foot cord to play comfortably.
I have no issue with it being wired, assuming its long enough. I might grab this.
