As an obsessed Pokémon fan, I can confirm the Pokémon Company is incorrect. Pronunciations are whatever sounds the best in your head, and no amount of "Quasar" science mumbo-jumbo is going to make Ray-QUAY-Za stick.
I DO have Super Mario 3D All-Stars, but I haven't touched it in years. It is kinda weird to make it run on Switch 2 when it's been available for so long, certainly a waste of resources... Unless they really are planning on re-releasing it. I'll lock that in as a Nintendo Direct prediction for the theorized July Direct.
I only got 3D All-Stars for the special anniversary pin set, only to be told that they were completely out of stock. That was... something... Maybe there will be a second chance for the 40th anniversary?
As someone who is a big fan of classic Marvel and a good portion of Capcom characters...
OW, MY EYES!
It looks like the game's roster has been amalgamated into a giant many faced monster. Yeah, like the one from Kirby and the Forgotten Land. I'm still voting Japan here though, I'm not feeling the random Psylocke and Guile combo.
The Japanese Art has an easy win here. Japan is the only one to show Daisy, who always looks a bit different in her early 3D models. I am reminded of her Smash Melee Trophy, which is... infamous.
@Clyde_Radcliffe I agree. Post-Iwata Nintendo has made a whole lot of decisions that, at least in my opinion, are very un-Nintendo-like. I think it started with the NSO subscription, but it has been getting more worrisome as time goes on.
I tend to think that it's due to a lack of "Nintendo" leadership. Shigeru Miyamoto's philosophy on fun is what made Nintendo stand out in the NES and SNES eras and Satoru Iwata specifically cited Miyamoto as the influence for how the led the company. Since his passing, Nintendo seems to be slowly moving away from the thing that Iwata called, "The Nintendo Difference."
The Japanese Box Art is slightly better at capturing the feel of a game about Feudal Japan, what a surprise.
The US Art is definitely hurt by the out of place taglines. Maybe no one would play a slow paced tactics game if they didn't know that you should "BE RUTHLESS" but it loses the grandeur that comes with the Era. I blame marketing.
Now people will have to start screaming that "the Sonic Timeline is detrimental to the series and it was a mistake to create it!"
Sonic lore is a hilarious amalgamation of weird concepts and Blast Processing. Time Travel, Pocket Dimensions, and American Race Car Driver Danica Patrick all converge into a warped single universe that loosely resembles a chronology.
SEGA just needs to release the Sonic Historia already, there's probably an audience for it. Maybe.
This is a fun one. It pretty much comes down to which card design you like more. Japan's original, or the West's broken Pokéball with the inverted opening.
I love that inverted Pokéball.
Wait, does the Japanese card back also have an reversed opening? I never noticed that.
I prefer the Japanese here, the slightly muted color scheme feels a bit more natural to me. Also, the ESRB rating takes up a tiny bit more space compared to CERO. Every bit of space matters when the designs are so similar.
Since the question is what game DESERVES a remake, I did have to vote Black & White. But I really would like to see Gen 4 remakes. Like remake Pokémon Platinum, maybe? BDSP are painfully, unapologetically bad.
The Pokémon IP is really in a rough spot after Scarlet and Violet. I personally found them pretty fun, but they really were janky and awkward. Between SV and BDSP, it's clear that TPC has no qualms about releasing low quality products. Even as a die-hard Pokémon fan, the future looks pretty bleak.
This comment section gave me a good laugh. With all of the "unconstructive" and "discussing moderation" I nearly forgot what the actual article was about!
What was it? Oh yeah! I'm really excited for Fantasy Life, but I couldn't care less about a PlayStation port, personally. I haven't played a PlayStation game since the PS2, and I'm not really interested in changing that. I guess this article isn't quite as interesting as the unrelated politics of social media.
Pokémon Legends Z-A is something that I have been looking forward to since its announcement. The long-awaited sequel to the woefully unfinished X&Y. However, the last time I was hyped for a sequel was Tears of the Kingdom, so my expectations have been drastically diminished.
I'll be waiting for Pokémon Day to see whether The Pokémon Company knows what they're doing.
I was very shocked to see the late game spoilers being showcased in a new trailer. Those late game spoilers being the secret anime episode hidden on the cartridge as a post-game bonus. I would pay good money to have more Nintendo owned and published anime, like the Dobutsu No Mori movie. Emio's secret "post-game" was the most shocking thing I've seen in a video game in almost a decade. Highly recommended.
As a side note, can anyone explain what is going on with the comments on this new Emio trailer? I've heard of review bombing, but I've never seen a comment section so... obsessed, I think?
EDIT: Apparently it's a Reddit prank/protest to comment about Water Buffalos until the Switch 2 is announced. I don't follow the logic.
Until Nintendo admits that Four Swords Adventure takes place approximately one generation after the original Four Swords, the "Official" Timeline needs to be taken with a grain of salt.
Also, there seems to be a whole lot of people who absolutely hate the Timeline. Guys, try to remember that Skyward Sword was made to be the prequel to Ocarina of Time, and Ocarina of Time was made to be a prequel to A Link to the Past. After that Majora's Mask, Wind Waker, Twilight Princess, and Breath of the Wild were all made to be sequels to Ocarina of Time. And as long as I'm at it, A Link Between Worlds was made as a sequel/remake to A Link to the Past, and Phantom Hourglass and Spirit Tracks were made as sequels to Wind Waker. Other than that, the Zelda Timeline is completely made up and doesn't matter. Class is dismissed.
Iwata claimed that most of his ideas on how games should be designed came from Miyamoto. In a way, Miyamoto reinvented the entire concept of "fun" as we know it.
If that doesn't make him a genius, I don't know what does.
If there's one thing that the GameCube Controller represents, it's Super Smaaaaash Bros! Smash is literally the reason why Nintendo is still manufacturing and selling GameCube controllers to this day.
If the GameCube controllers are getting some sort of update, it would make sense to correlate it with a Smash update/sequel. And Sakurai is wrapping up his YouTube channel, so...
What makes this funny is that Groudon and Kyogre aren't even in the game (unless you transfer them from a GBA game). All three versions are built on false advertising!
I am not entirely sure that the depths are technically impressive. Games have been loading things in in front of you and culling out the things behind you for years. Applying that to a vertical area doesn't seem to be that much of a stretch.
Also, the Chasms are effectively loading zones. Maybe people don't notice that in regular gameplay. Not only are they long empty spaces that prevent you from seeing anything while the game loads, but they don't even work if you go back up through a Chasm. The game will buffer for five or six seconds if you try to fly back up.
That's the real technical marvel. Not loading in the depths, but the under ten second load times.
@XE77 @RodSD64 @Savage_Joe Why is everyone talking about Geist and ignoring Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem?
It's exactly the same, more or less, as Geist was developed by N-Space and Eternal Darkness was developed by Silicon Knights, but I always thought Eternal Darkness was THE Nintendo M-Rated game.
I like NA more than EU, something about the ghostly image of Link sort of detracts from the art of the medieval style logo. It just clashes too much for me.
But JP actually shows that you're getting two separate games! You can also really tell that it's a Zelda game, or at the very least, a game with a lot of Links. Its got five times the Links as the EU box art.
As I understand it, the glitches are a selling point for Scarlet and Violet. If they put effort into making Gen 10, they're sure to disappoint a large portion of the fan base.
If they are actually taking more time to develop the next Pokémon game, could that mean that Game Freak is... learning? There has to be another explanation.
@Maubari I'll give it to you that BotW doesn't feel like a Zelda game. It's open, somewhat empty, and the entire concept of gameplay and story only exists if you hunt it down and take your time exploring the map. It kind of feels like going outside, camping in the wilderness.
However TotK feels even less like a Zelda game, with the majority of the quest being grinding enemy drops so you can purchase armor upgrades and Zonai parts. The dungeons are literally the same formula as BotW, just with minor aesthetic changes, and the gameplay is worse due to Zonai vehicles and the Rauru powers lessening the potential of puzzle solving/progression. All in all, the game feels like a more fleshed out, albeit linear, version of Minecraft.
It's absolutely fine to prefer TotK over BotW, but please don't refer to BotW as an unfinished beta. The two games go in completely different directions, with very different gameplay loops, even though they look very similar.
@ShinEric I personally prefer the Super Mario version over the Luigi's Mansion version. (King Boo's Haunted Hideaway is my favorite Mario Party level) But I am very surprised to see Luigi's Mansion slighted here. Could of been tied to Luigi's Mansion 2 HD.
Akira Toriyama's art style is something I have always adored. Every game I've played with Toriyama's art was absolutely delightful, I think mostly due to the character and monster design.
Even if he was a bigger deal in the manga communities, I will always associate his name with RPGs.
The last thing I was expecting was the announcement of his death. This is probably the biggest tragedy since Satoru Iwata's passing in 2015.
This is not the worst thing they've done with these Online profile icons, but it's certainly in the running.
I still haven't forgiven them for both BotW and TotK having a completely white background available for 5 points each. No, not a faint texture/pattern, just a white square. I bought both, of course.
After I played the 1-2 combo of SM/USUM, I thought I was done with Pokémon. After all, they sold an incomplete (literally filled with unfinished construction sites) game with slow gameplay and a dull story, and then they sold it again with a few minigames added. I was distraught with the state of Game Freak and the quality they were putting out.
Then I got Pokémon X for my birthday (I had previous skipped it because I'm very cheap) and I changed my mind entirely. The gameplay didn't necessarily break any new ground, but it told a deep story of a madman's quest for eternal life. No, it wasn't perfect, and I can't even remember the Elite Four, as I don't think they added anything to the main plot, but when the credits rolled... I think I probably shed a few tears.
It was preachy, but it felt like there was more to it then just "being the very best, that no one ever was", and now that's what I want from any future Pokémon games, although I don't really have high hopes.
Entirely within Lumiose City? That's an interesting concept. Sure, it's a big city, but I don't think it's so massive to contain a full Action RPG on it's own.
Though X and Y's Looker Post-game took place entirely in Lumiose City, so perhaps it's not as much of a stretch as I would like to believe.
Fantasy Life was the only thing that caught my interest in the direct, although I don't quite have confidence in the "turn everything into Animal Crossing: New Horizons" movement.
Epic Mickey was a shock, mainly because it gives me depression and motion sickness. In an anachronistic twist, I consider Epic Mickey to be "Bendy and the Ink Machine at home".
@Tobunari Just because I said that this wasn't a "major" update doesn't mean I was expecting one. I haven't expected anything from Smash since the Pyra/Mythra release. I'm merely saying that adding a new amiibo isn't "major", at least not by my definition.
That being said, Super Smash Bros. is a gold mine that IF they decided to add more DLC or even make a Deluxe edition, it is certain to sell like crazy. It's just mainly up to Masahiro Sakurai if he feels like adding to his Ultimate creation.
You can't (shouldn't be able to, at least) claim ownership of a genre, and Monster Collecting is a genre that goes all the way back to prehistoric times when little boys used to catch bugs and force them to fight...or so I've heard.
Pokémon has over 1000 monsters with alternate forms on top of that, so even IF Palworld devs weren't trying to directly bring to mind Pokémon, they would likely have a few designs that copy existing pocket monsters.
Not to necessarily defend Palworld. The game looks like a cheap shovelware knock-off. It's just a cheap knock-off is far superior in quality to the all the Pokémon games made in the last 5-10 years. Someone had to pick up on the incredibly low bar to make a monster-collecting game eventually.
I've been watching "Digimon Ghost Game". It's actually pretty good. Pretty much every episode a Digimon appears in the form of a Hologram and attempts to murder random bystanders.
The issue with Sonic Games is the same now as it was back on the Genesis (Mega Drive). FALSE ADVERTISING.
Sonic is a game that claims to be about going fast, but if you go fast, you can't react to enemies, terrain, or those stupid spikes that randomly pop out of the walls and floor.
But where Sonic fails in speedy platforming gameplay, he more than makes up in Blast Processing.
I'm still playing Pokémon Legends Arceus and the frame rate is just fine. It's seriously crazy just how superior that game is to the mainline titles made in the last 5-10 years.
They know how to make a game. They're just choosing not to.

THERE IS NO RHYME OR REASON TO THIS! If I have to guess, based on this pattern, Wave Four will only be a spirit of Masahiro Sakurai, laughing at us.

Re: Sonic Superstars Receives Small Update On Switch
The issue with Sonic Games is the same now as it was back on the Genesis (Mega Drive). FALSE ADVERTISING.

They know how to make a game. They're just choosing not to.
