I have no idea what I'd think of TotK if it had been released before or instead of BotW, but I don't think it really matters, because it IS the sequel to BotW.
As it is, it is a massive step down in story, world design, and every aspect of gameplay apart from combat. It is the second most empty, unfulfilling game I've ever played.
I guess I should be happy that so many other people think it's the greatest game of all time, but I can't help but wonder what scale everyone else is using to judge it. Did no one else run into the game-ruining, immersion-breaking flaws that I did?
I'm glad they fixed the bug that made an Xbox controller appear when you were using a PlayStation controller. I can't believe they didn't catch that sooner.
I actually think LBW is a better game than LttP. Fairly certain that most wouldn't agree with me, but LttP feels dated and awkward in all the wrong places...
When they announced this game was coming to NSO, I immediately booted up the Castlevania Collection to see if I had somehow missed it being on there. After all, it's got two Gameboy Castlevanias + Kid Dracula.
I think it's pretty clear that Konami wants everyone to forget about Legends as much as possible, which makes this sudden reappearance completely inscrutable.
I was too scared to explore the Old Chateau when I first discovered it in Pokémon Platinum, not because of the spooky atmosphere, but because I was so bad at the game that there was a good chance that a random encounter could wipe my party. I just grabbed my Rotom and got out of there.
Mimikyu is not a scary Pokémon! Slightly sinister and extremely DEADLY, sure, but underneath the Pikachu-like exterior, Mimikyu just wants love and attention... like all of us...
@Munchlax As some have already said, Pikmin 4 is one of the only stand-out games of 2023. Possibly only topped by Super Mario Wonder.
Of course, this is just my opinion, but those two, Dave the Diver, and the Resident Evil homage My Friendly Neighborhood are the only 2023 titles worth investing in.
Wario has always gone a bit over my head, his games were always a bit slow and janky for the impatient child that I was.
I may be crazy, but I really like The Shake Dimension over Shake It!, it actually sounds like some sort of adventure game to me, rather then a Mario Party spin-off.
The Talking Flowers are definitely one of the high points of the game, at least when they aren't reusing the "That Happened." voice line for the third time.
My personal favorite is when you encounter a flower who says nothing... Right before something crushes him or knocks him into a pit. "AAAAAAHHHH!"
I really don't like how Mario looks in Super Mario Bros. All Stars, the levels are brighter, but I can't stand how different his skin tone is to his regular appearance.
I'm trying to say it as tastefully as I can, but that's the entire reason I don't play the SNES versions of the Mario games.
I know it ridiculous, but I like to think that SEGA heard Nintendo was releasing a Mario game while they were in the middle of making a Sonic game. They knew no one would buy Sonic if Mario was out so they decided to rush the release. The soonest the could schedule it was just days before.
I played the demos for DQ Treasures and DQM3, and they played suspiciously similar. Between those two and Infinity Strash, it has me wondering if all the DQ resources are being dedicated to XII, and these spin-offs are just whatever a metaphorical intern could throw together.
@Altaria_97 Creative Mode was cool and all, but it pretty much came across as "Now we don't have to pay anyone to make new rounds." I can't play solo show anymore without fear of hitting a round with janky hit detection, awkward camera controls, and the longest respawn time imaginable.
Fall Guys was better when the season was just five new QUALITY rounds.
I was thinking Wind Waker HD was imminent, but I can't shake the suspicion that Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door will be the Nintendo Switch's swan song.
@HammerKirby Yes, there is a two year limit on when Gold points are available for physical games. The error I got was not that the points had expired, but that the points window hadn't yet begun.
If I recall correctly, I ended up contacting Nintendo and they manually added Gold points onto my account.
Swapping Red Kirby with Pink Kirby is one way to appeal to us red-blooded Americans, but I wish they had gone the extra mile and swapped all the Kirby colors around.
I have had some trouble ordering physical copies of Switch games before. When I ordered a game from Limited Run Games, it had an error saying that the Gold Points redemption window hadn't begun yet, months after the digital version had released.
That wasn't as bad as Playasia, which sent a Japanese copy of what I was fairly certain had an English version. Perhaps I misunderstood the listing, but I definitely ordered English box art, and received a game that both the box art and the game itself was entirely in Japanese with no language options.
BotW was, and still is, my favorite game of all time, so I was as hyped for TotK as possible. But when it finally released, it was just a game full of stuff. You could build a car, you could fight a robot, you could hold up a signpost eighty-one times, but it all felt empty and meaningless. Maybe it was just my imagination, but BotW felt real, it felt alive, and TotK just doesn't have that feeling. The most feeling TotK ever evoked for me was when I built a fan-powered plank boat and sailed along the beach, humming the Wind Waker theme.
I thought we were done with the mostly translucent plastic stands holding up the amiibo. I can sort of see why with Zelda, but I would have done the Ganondorf design differently.
@JR150 Combining Lego DC Super Villains with MHA has me thinking of an RPG where you join the League of Villains... though I'm not entirely sure what the end goal would be...

Re: Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Has Been Updated To Version 3.0.1, Here Are The Full Patch Notes
If only they fixed Wii DK Summit. The combo of extremely narrow road plus slow and awkward camera movement makes the 180 turns impossibly frustrating.
Re: Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed Lands Crossplay In New Switch Update, Here Are The Patch Notes
I'm glad they fixed the bug that made an Xbox controller appear when you were using a PlayStation controller. I can't believe they didn't catch that sooner.
Re: Anniversary: Zelda: A Link Between Worlds Is 10 Years Old Today
I actually think LBW is a better game than LttP. Fairly certain that most wouldn't agree with me, but LttP feels dated and awkward in all the wrong places...
Then again, LBW is ten years old now...
Re: Super Mario Bros. Wonder Has Been Updated To Version 1.0.1, Here Are The Full Patch Notes
Was there a typo in the credits? Or did they just forget to mention one of the developers?
Re: Nintendo Releases Update For Switch (Version 17.0.0), Here Are The Details
I don't mind updating the banned words list, as long as they don't skimp on the stability.
Give me more stability!
Re: Level-5's New Fantasy Life Game For Switch Has Reportedly Been Delayed
Fantasy Life is game that I'd be happy to wait for. I would rather have a great complete game rather than Fantasy Life: Scarlet and Violet.
Re: Poll: Box Art Brawl - Duel: Kirby Mass Attack
Angry Kirby doesn't normally work, but Mass Attack pulls it off.
EU/JP keeps drawing my eye to the Kirby in the bottom left, and that just does not look right.
Re: Can You Name The Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Fighter From Their Feet?
I was expecting the footprint challenge from Pokémon Mystery Dungeon, not just partial Smash Ultimate renders. I've memorized nearly all of those.
Though apparently I've not ever looked at Fox's feet, it looked just like Falco's to me.
Re: Talking Point: "This Is Only The Beginning" - What Should Konami Do With Metal Gear Next?
I was going through an old pile of magazines, and I found one that said that a Metal Gear Solid movie was announced and was going to be released soon.
Apparently, it's been stuck in movie directing limbo for years, but it probably isn't cancelled... Maybe?

Re: A New Roguelike Story Campaign Is Joining The Fight In Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl 2
The "Smash Killer" kills Smash yet again.
I still can't wrap my mind around how there are now multiple games in the NASB series. Couldn't this have been DLC?

@Joeynator3000 "No, you're not the one..."

Re: Review: Agatha Christie - Murder On The Orient Express - A Clever New Spin On An Old Mystery
This is an interesting new take on Professor Layton.
Re: The Pokémon Company Reckons There's Room For Future Detective Pikachu Spin-Offs
I found Detective Pikachu Returns to be pretty enjoyable, although I have a sneaking suspicion the plot would have been better suited to a movie.
As far as games go, I vote for a Detective Mewtwo game.
Re: Reminder: Sonic Superstars Free Amy Rose Outfit And LEGO Sonic Skin Now Available
Everytime I play a Sonic game I find myself thinking, "Why isn't Sonic made out of LEGOs?" It just adds so much to the experience.
Re: Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed - Ecto Edition Blasts Onto Switch eShop This Week
I would buy the Luigi's Mansion Nintendo Land game as a standalone... Although missing out on Animal Crossing: Sweet Day would be awful.
Maybe Super Nintendo Land for Switch 2?
Re: Disney Boss Reportedly Being Urged To Acquire A Major Game Publisher
Anybody remember Epic Mickey? No? Just me then...
Re: The First Review For Sonic Superstars Is Now In
They should of collaborated with Nintendo to make one 2D platformer with both the Sonic and Mario casts.
Sonic is going to get three days of sales and then disappear forever.
Re: Random: Super Mario Maker Players Want To 100% The Game While They Still Can
@Nintendo_Thumb Keep up the good work! It means a lot being able to see my levels on YouTube. Thank you!
Re: Hands On: Super Mario Bros. Wonder's Brilliant Badges And Dark Souls-Style Online Functionality
@Rykdrew @Snatcher I think Rayman and Mario might have slightly different audiences.
I like NSMBU a bit more than Rayman as a whole, but the music/rhythm stages are absolutely WONDERFUL.
Re: Mario Producer: Sonic's Same Week Release Is "An Interesting Coincidence"
I know it ridiculous, but I like to think that SEGA heard Nintendo was releasing a Mario game while they were in the middle of making a Sonic game. They knew no one would buy Sonic if Mario was out so they decided to rush the release. The soonest the could schedule it was just days before.
Yeah, I know it's just a funny coincidence.
Re: Surprise! LEGO Animal Crossing Sets Are Actually Happening
Something about the Minifigures proportions scares me.

Re: Pokémon Bank Users Encouraged To Transfer Pokémon To Pokémon Home ASAP
No! I put all my Pokémon in the bank once it became free, but I'm not paying a rental fee to store them in the cloud.
If there was just a one time purchase or some sort of free trial it would be fine! Don't kill my living 'dex!
Re: Review: Detective Pikachu Returns - Drab-Looking But Fun Forensics For The Fam
If I were to summarize the first Detective Pikachu game it would be a bit like:
Tim! Hey, Tim!
Re: Review: Infinity Strash: Dragon Quest The Adventure Of Dai - A Dismal Adaptation Of An Excellent Anime

Re: Poll: Box Art Brawl - Duel: Yoshi's Cookie
I like the Japanese art better, but the gray with orange letters is rubbing me the wrong way. It just looks weird.
Re: Super Mario Bros. Wonder Gives Fans Another Look At The Invisibility Badge
I can only assume this exists because of the MASSIVE POPULARITY of Mario Odyssey's Invisible Cap.
All future Mario games will feature only invisible protagonists.
Re: Epic Insists "Mediatonic's Work On Fall Guys Continues To Be A Company Priority"
@Altaria_97 Creative Mode was cool and all, but it pretty much came across as "Now we don't have to pay anyone to make new rounds."

Re: Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl 2 Brings The Fight To Switch This November
@dcon11 This game is, and always will be, the Smash Killer. The more they protest, the harder it will stick.
Re: Poll: Do You Prefer Zelda: Wind Waker HD's Bloom Lighting Or The "Flat" OG?
I was thinking Wind Waker HD was imminent, but I can't shake the suspicion that Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door will be the Nintendo Switch's swan song.
Re: Pokémon Scarlet & Violet's DLC Catches An International Physical Release This November
As I see it, to get the game without the DLC is to get an incomplete game without most of the intended features.
I still remember a time that Game Freak would add features to an incomplete game, then sell it again without raising the price. The good ol' days...
Re: Disgruntled Switch Fans File Class Action Lawsuit Over KOTOR II DLC Cancellation
I wanted to get the KotOR bundle, but passed on account of the port controls.
Unfortunately, this led me to missing out on one of my favorite kind of games: the free kind!
Re: Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney Trilogy Physical Switch Release Confirmed
@HammerKirby I was thinking something had a two year limit, but I guess it wasn't the Gold points. My mistake.
Re: 3DS Turn-Based JRPG 'The Legend Of Legacy' Is Getting Remastered Next Year
I thought The Alliance Alive was getting a second remaster. As far as I can tell, that's not actually too far from the truth.

Re: Super Mario Bros. Wonder Overview Trailer Is A Wonderful Recap Of Game's New Features
Honestly, I'm waiting for Super Mario Maker 3. I might end up getting Wonder, but I'm not feeling that "Wowie Zowie" about it.

Re: Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney Trilogy Calls You To The Stand In January
Now if they just make an Apollo Justice anime, my Ace Attorney dreams will be complete.
Re: Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake "Progressing Quite Steadily", According To Series Creator
I actually would prefer a remake/remaster of Dragon Quest IV over III, although all the NES DQ games are fantastic.
