Re: ICYMI: Stardew Valley - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition Is Now Available, Will You Be Getting It?

Stormcloudlive

@Misima when Mario 3 came to the GBA it meant people could play that game at an airport while traveling without the need to bring their NES and TV... Same with the likes of Red Dead and Skyrim, the fact those games exist on the PS3 and Xbox doesn't mean the switch library does not grow when they are on that.

Equally the same for games which now have a switch 1 and 2 version, there's tons of original Xbox games which got a HD version on the x360 not many people questioned their existence due to the original 480p versions existing (although I'm sure you would have if you were gaming then)

Re: Arcade Archives Celebrates 500 Retro Releases With Special Commemorative Game

Stormcloudlive

@Ooyah thanks man for the info, I know of the evercade and other retro handhelds, I have an odin2, retroid pocket 4 and my fav is a trimui, but I love having all my gaming officially on the switch.

The trimui is awesome though as there's games on that which will never come to legit platforms like the rainbow versions of street fighter 2, those are the ones that bring me back to the chip shop in the 90s, tumble pop was in the bowling alley here so that's where this arcade game takes me when finishing it over and over. I hope your chippy memory includes the smells and sounds as well !!

Re: Rumour: Call Of Duty's Nintendo Release Is Apparently On Target For 2026

Stormcloudlive

If you look at the Switches library right now and think about how much it isn't hurting for games... my backlog is full of great Switch one software as well which now runs even better on the new hardware so like, I'm not exactly holding my breath waiting for some shoddy port of a churned out annual bro shooter laced with lootboxes and season passes.

Also when it comes to storage... guys if you were able to put some USB HDD into the dock and connect that to the Switch 2 it would simply not be fast enough to run Switch 2 software, the transfer speed of the storage used in the system is 900Mbps even a traditional 2.5" SSD transfer speed caps out at around 600Mbps for the absolute BEST SSDs (of the laptop/PS4 style 2.5" version) the storage in the switch having the "EXPRESS" on it refers to going through the PCIe bus of the system much like NVMe does, they are all a completely different beast to USB/SATA drives and have speeds which start around the 900Mbps in the Switch and range up to 5-6000Mbps in the storage used in the PS5 and even beyond in modern PC NVMe drives.

Basically TL:DR - A USB HDD would NEVER be fast enough to be used as Switch 2 Storage. EVER. Not even if that was USB SATA SSD it would still fall short.

Re: Users Are Reporting "Greatly Reduced" Input Lag On Zelda: Wind Waker For NSO

Stormcloudlive

@gamering There was never 14 frames of input delay, the original complaining post said he felt it was that many, was tested to be 6 by the speedrunning community, it is now down to 4.

But it says all this in the article and you didn't read it there and there's little evidence you'll read it here either, you'll likely think I'm someone defending a crappy product instead.

Re: Stop Motion Co-Op Adventure 'Out Of Words' Confirmed For Switch 2

Stormcloudlive

Their creators voice sounds incredibly familiar... sort of like Robert Webb of Mitchell and Webb / Peep Show fame.

The trailer looked very cool, considering self and the wife enjoyed the heck out of It takes two (except for constantly waiting for that title song to never appear lol) and we've got Switch 2 version of Split Fiction waiting for my holiday break to play through. Great to see more love given to couch co-op games.

Strongly recommend not playing through "It takes two" with a friend that you might play Gears of War with... there's a lot of sloppy scenes in there 😅

Re: Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition Updates Planned For Switch Platforms

Stormcloudlive

The thing I don't get with Aspyr is that this seems to be their release model, release a game that could be cool.... But everyone is doubtful because it's from Aspyr, then it comes out from the first buyers that the port is only okay so any and all hype dies, people commit that they'll buy it in a bargain bin sale later on..... And THEN Aspyr go to work patching and fixing it as an apology? Why not do the work first? Test, patch and release a quality product and then have people lavish you with praise and sales with higher retail cost? They're doing the exact same work on the games in the end but getting slagged for releasing bad games with no effort.

Re: Multiple Switch Games Have Received Switch 2 Compatibility Fixes

Stormcloudlive

@WaveBoy where are you seeing that info?

Also awesome that they're working all the time on fixing handfuls of games here and there, I already have way too many games to enjoy on my switch but it's cool to see more effort all the time by Nintendo to make sure players don't have buyers remorse after their upgrade purchase

Re: Legend Of Mana: The Art Of Mana - 30th Anniversary Edition Is Getting An English Version

Stormcloudlive

@BigRadical Had never actually heard of Brave Fencer before, watched some of it on a youtube playthrough, pretty cool main character voice actor, English dub of Izzy Izumi from Digimon Adventure so I'm already a fan based on that 😁 Might check it out sometime via emulation.

@CammyUnofficial Ouch... that's a bit of a long game to try and finish in one sitting lol, you need to work through many different time periods and figure out why you and a bunch of other people have been taken to that world and what link they all have to each other, definitely either check it out via emulation or indeed if Square ever decide to dust off that code and release it on modern hardware I would recommend checking it out. There's a load of missable content / spells in the game too so... you don't want to be trying to speed run it in a single sitting where you can't save.

Re: Metroid Prime 4: Beyond Difficulty Settings Revealed By Nintendo

Stormcloudlive

I look at this like the auto steering assist being on by default in Mario kart, for those who NEED that, it's there and on, for those good enough to drive and enjoy the game without, they can turn it off.

Graying out the hardest difficulty for some younger players might avoid the mistake of clicking on something out of peer pressure or just a straight up accidental selection which would render the game unplayable for them, the logic that if someone is good enough to play hardcore modes then they'll be able to breeze through normal as a warm up session. Think of it like how hardcore street fighter players play through all the fights before fighting Bison, no one throws down the controller because they're forced to fight dhalsim first... Maybe if you do... Progression and gaming is actually too difficult for you, not too easy.

Re: Legend Of Mana: The Art Of Mana - 30th Anniversary Edition Is Getting An English Version

Stormcloudlive

Never was able to get my hands on this game back on the PlayStation and remember being sad because I loved secret of mana so much.... I got and played it on the switch when it came out a few years ago, then I was more sad because I loved secret of mana so much.

Another squaresoft game from that glory SNES era is secret of evermore, for anyone who loves SNES RPGs it's an absolute must to checkout but I don't think it's available on modern systems.

Re: Ongoing MicroSD Shortages Could Have A Knock-On Effect For Switch 2 Storage Availability

Stormcloudlive

@Debo626 yeah.... Going from speeds of up to 130mbps with standard SD cards up to the 900mbps with express cards is amazing. It has done away with texture pop in that plagued the original switch almost completely. Nintendo are awesome for having basically upgraded from HDD to nvme in terms of data storage capabilities.

As for my own SD card, I just picked up the 1tb lexar one on Amazon for 193 during black Friday sales, I had said I would jump on it when it dropped below 200 and now it did. Feel that 190 is a fair price to have a huge chunk of my library installed on the system.

Re: New Limited-Time Pokémon Scarlet And Violet Distribution Now Available

Stormcloudlive

@ThaBEN Don't think so Ben, the mystery gift option is something in game only not via the redeem codes area of the Eshop, you're going to want to put the cart in your machine if you want this Pokemon, that said... it's more a celebration for the winner of the tournie than an amazing Pokemon imo, you're not missing too much just the fact of where it's from.

Re: ICYMI: Metroid Prime 4: Beyond Estimated Switch 2 And Switch File Size Revealed

Stormcloudlive

Just picked up a 1TB micro SD express at the start of the black friday sales so file size isn't going to be a worry for me for at least the coming months. I'm really looking forward to being able to load up some more Switch 1 software on my system, been a few times when I had friends over recently and having to go for a tea while Smash Ultimate redownloads after making some space.

FYI The lexar 1TB micro SD express has just gone under €200 for the first time which is where I said I would bite, it's 193.44 with Amazon prime now at least here in Ireland. (free prime trials are available if you've not had one in a few months).

Re: Poll: Is Your Third-Party Switch 2 Dock Still Working After This Week's System Update?

Stormcloudlive

Where's the poll option that says "I've never purchased a Nintendo game or system but like to complain about their poor business practices in every post online" ?

Could add an option in the second poll of "hey, no, I liked the GameCube that was a serious console, I played resident evil 4 on my friends one"

As for the dock stuff, have no issues but as with a few places 2 people in this household have switch 2 systems so one of our docks is on one screen and the other screen got the spare. Last Gen by the time the OLED model was out I think only one of those docks came out of the box here for the wired LAN port. Both Mariko docks were never unboxed.

Re: Super Mario 3D All-Stars Updated To Version 1.1.4, Improves Gameplay On Switch 2

Stormcloudlive

Is there something I'm missing on the switch but to my knowledge Mario Sunshine is not currently attainable on the system.

Mario 64 is in the NSO app and Galaxy 1 is in that double pack but Sunshine is still coming soon to the GameCube NSO app. Unless I've missed something?

Doesn't matter to me, I bought this collection day 1 when it appeared but still just seeing people here talk about them being all available maybe some people would sell their copies of the collection if that was the case but I think most who bought it are collectors who wouldn't part with it

Re: More Switch Games Get Switch 2 Compatibility Fixes

Stormcloudlive

@Jhena it's trying to pour some of the color down into the switch 2.

Have to say I'm delighted with the backwards compatibility situation, I was very scared when the switch 2 was coming that I would have to be going back and forth from switch 1 >2 to play certain games but realistically the way such a tiny few games have issues and how amazingly well the switch 1 software runs on the second machine, I've literally never gone back. Playing things like saints row 3 or 4 on switch 2 is just great to see them lock in at 60fps instead of how they ran on the OG unit.

Did see extra notes on a few games now like if you see marvel fighting collection in the eShop it has a notice about playing switch 2vs switch 1 players in multiplayer causing corrupted textures. Strangely enough marvel vs Capcom 2 from the original Xbox running in backwards compatibility on the Xbox360 has the exact same texture issue.

  • also just want to add, it's so nice that this site has an ignore feature.

Re: "OpenAI Is Trying To Get Sued" - Nintendo IP Floods Sora 2 Video Generation App

Stormcloudlive

@breach187 Yeah, I'm definitely going to go down an Opt out route with all crime from now on, don't want me to steal your music, ask me directly each IP holder, if I see a home that doesn't seem occupied.... well the home owner hasn't specifically asked me NOT to break in and take their stuff so I guess it's fine now?

I wouldn't steal a car.... as long as the owner asks me nicely not to, then I'll see about the next car... no owner? whoooo, you go in the "car training data car collection"

Re: WWE 2K25 Online Shutdown Date Revealed Just Months After Switch 2 Release

Stormcloudlive

I'm in 2 minds about this... and that headline is pretty misleading, I know it's technically correct that they revealed the shutdown date only 2 months after the game came out... but it's pretty clear what was going on when writing that headline, the date of shutdown isn't until March 2027

Like @RootsGenoa said the games player base will likely all be playing WWE2K26 / 2K27 by that date so there's going to be very few of the actual players who are impacted by this, it's mostly going to be those who might pick this up incredibly cheap on the second hand market in late 2026 or into 2027 who find the online services don't work and then get that realization of "oh yeah... maybe that's why this was 4 euro" No one is going to be buying the €120 bloodline edition of this game in May of 2027.

And video game preservation is one thing when it comes to milestone games... but in the list of games that people will look back on through history, there's no one with a certain year of a Fifa game they want to see in the video game Smithsonian museum, not gonna have a glass cabinet setup alongside The Last of Us and Mario Odyssey that contains a copy of Fifa2001 for the PSone

Re: SNK Announces ACA NEOGEO Selection Vol. 9 And Vol. 10 For Switch

Stormcloudlive

@Dimey for a lot of people these games hold a place in their childhoods which can't be recreated legally as easy as something like Mario Galaxy, there's 80 million Wii consoles around that can play Galaxy. For me I'm still waiting to see tumblepop from Data East published in one of these that will be an instant buy, I used to travel into town and pay for each credit in that game, played for hours, finished it many times but would pay whatever price to own it at home on my switch legally.

Re: Rumour: Another Claim Points To A Nintendo Direct Later This Month

Stormcloudlive

@Whirlwound Yeah and Nintendo have been pretty unlucky with dates lining up with global events in a bad way. The number of times that the "advance wars" series has hit issues when it was coming out. Maybe they're hoping by putting it on this date that there's very little chance of another similar event happening as everyone's mind would be on extra security on that anniversary?

I mean... Mr President what are the chances that a second incident hits... 😖

Re: Stardew Valley Creator Announces Version 1.7 Update

Stormcloudlive

The cool thing about the game getting these major content updates is that it never fades into obscurity.

Stardew valley when it launched got a load of followers but it also attracted a load of clones which try and copy the basic gameplay loop. But what clones have a far harder time copying is a decade of refinement and care by the original creator.

And aye, it's a farming/life sim, that's not for everyone but for fans of the genre it's fantastic.

Re: Sonic Mania 2 Prototype Artwork Revealed By Christian Whitehead

Stormcloudlive

Sega over here like...

"Guys have you seen Sonic frontier? It's like breath of the wild but even faster and better!! Also it has the same camera as breath of the wild which is made for slow progression and climbing so it doesn't function at all in the game.... WHY DO YOU WANT 2D GAMES GUYS?!"

SEGA should have some franchises taken away from them like how someone has their animals taken away if they keep trying to put them into cage fights ... 3d Cage fights

Re: New Grand Theft Auto Trilogy Physical Switch Release Spotted

Stormcloudlive

@Res462 The soundtracks to these definitive editions (and all steam versions and PC versions in the last 10/20 years) have been altered from the Original PS2 titles because as many have mentioned some music companies pulled their licenses and it's not always just about money, there are many other reasons a music company might not want its happy 80s music put on an 18s rated game where you can use rocket launchers vs cops and prostitutes. sometimes companies just don't want their music to be the background soundtrack to that type of game in 2025, which is also fair. (imo of course)

There's tons of copies of the OG games floating about though, these were some of the biggest sellers back on the PS2 (also one of the biggest selling consoles) so you can very easily go and get an old PS2 and go to somewhere like CEX or any retro game store and buy these games to play them with the OG soundtracks if people really want to.

Re: Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection Gets Proper Physical Release On Switch 2

Stormcloudlive

I sure hope that everyone who posts the same comment over and over crying about key cards being the death of gaming will rush out and buy copies of this to make up for copies which don't sell due to the slightly higher price due to the cart choice.

Come on guys, now is your time to vote with your wallets, add this to the copy of cyberpunk you all bought on launch because it's on the cart

Re: EA Doesn't Currently Have Plans To Bring Battlefield 6 To Switch 2

Stormcloudlive

@Toastmaster why do you think people care what you own? Or where did you get the idea that "most can't afford a steam deck" you think this site is about measuring assets? Shall we compare car or home ownership to determine who knows more about DLSS or if AMD/ Nvidia was a better choice for Nintendo to use?

I don't mean to get into that argument but I just wanted to clarify regarding your first line.

No we don't.
