I would just love some more information from companies about games which are out as Switch 1 versions what their intentions are going forwards, I know it's Konami not Capcom, but the MGS collection is a real painful one for me for the last few months... on sale all the time but Konami are tight lipped (to my knowledge) if they're going to do any Switch 2 version of that or update the Switch 1 version because I would feel stupid buying the worse version.
This update can be applied to both the switch 1 and switch 2, you can actually know you're in a dream by balancing either system on a table, if they wobble at all it's not reality.
@PharoneTheGnome game share is a way the switch 2 can run software and then broadcast a video signal to other switch systems for local multiplayer.
It's incredibly cool that they allow the switch 1 to be used to receive game video from the switch 2 machine but no, as for your question this software is exclusive to the switch 2, you cannot buy and play it on the switch 1.
The reason the helper settings are on by default is that Nintendo assumed that people who are good enough at the game to not need the help should also be good enough at the game to navigate a menu and turn it off. And of course visa versa, young kids picking this up for some fun aren't going to know to go into menus or even be able to read the word accessibility.
@ibookboyuk it mentions the GC startup by holding a direction on a stick... but you know the OG GC had some easter egg startups as well?
While holding the stick to a direction during the GC startup App, watch for the Switch2 Logo snapping closed, just as it snaps, Press and hold R on the Switch controller. Enjoy
ps if you have 4 controllers and some mates to help with the timing, get 4 players to press R just as the switch snaps together! Egggggstra easter eggs.
@Zeebor15 wait.... You think people buy a MiG card, then put loads of games on that one cartridge.... Because they want physical media?
You know there's another way you can insert an SD card into a Nintendo switch and download loads of legally purchasable copies and have them all loaded into the system? It's called the eShop.
@TwinFami This was always a thing which can happen in breath of the wild, I guess you can refer to them as "Sun showers" which do indeed happen in the real world, if you notice when they do happen it's normally only for a small window of time, not the complete 3 hour window that a normal weather object would happen for.
Coming back to Breath after hundreds of hours spent in tears I had actually kinda missed things like this which make you feel a bit powerless vs nature at times where you just have to bunker down under some shelter and maybe consider dropping your equip on the ground to take pictures of it to fill in the compendium or so. it's WILD out there!
edit - I do hope this update fixes the strange double parry you get with the guardian beams though, it has gotten me killed a few times now because it seems that at times the guardians shots trigger twice, do get parried twice but then can trigger the guardians to not take damage correctly but instead do their little rampage multishot attack mode, would think it's definitely a result of their mechanics not playing well with the jump from 30 to 60 fps.
@Jack_Goetz Yeah man, Witch 3 has moved massively up along my to-do list since hearing it's now a lot nicer experience on the Switch but I'm currently 37 shrines into Breath of the Wild Switch 2 edition run.... only 3 more and I get a nice shiny (won't spoil)
I'm really looking forward to taking a look at splatoon 3 over the weekend but weirdly enough even though I've got literally hundreds of digital games... BoTW and Splat 3 are both ones I own the carts of so I have 2 games I want to play and only one cartridge slot 😅first world problems I know
@Dev-N Switch 2 loading time alone makes so many Switch 1 titles a million times more immersive now because they aren't effectively ruined by those loading times, it's incredible.
In all seriousness though, the new system is beautiful and I hope everyone who got theirs on this site is enjoying it so far.
The horsepower in this new system really opens the doors to more complete ports from other systems and I really can't believe that the pro 2 controller feels so premium it actually could outshine the pro 1
@Ultimapunch yeah that's exactly what's being done here. They're also going to call around at night time when you plug it in.... And take the charging cable out just a bit so it charges slower. I caught miyamoto San outside my window last night trying to creep inside.
That's a really cool video and updates like this really make me wonder what is going on in with people who comment things like "Well I have loads of Switch 1 games still to play before worrying about getting a Switch 2" I mean.... play that same library with massive upgrades to every single piece of software? Outside of budget there is zero reason for someone to stay on Switch 1 right now.
Collectable rubbish? Sorry but this idea is flawed from jump... why not do something like the candy comes in a container with a blind bag pokemon figure or so... this is asking people to collect the foil from under sweets? Most would just take this off and chuck it in a bin.... wonder if people see value in this stuff would it lead to collectors rooting around in the bin to dig out other peoples wrappers.
@electrolite77 @LikelySatan Don't you love it when someone comes out and says they don't understand why Nintendo does something... and then literally writes down why Nintendo did that thing.
@CutchuSlow @Ultimapunch Not only would it be that much more... but think if it was OLED and had the features which the Switch 2 Screen actually has, an OLED VRR 1080p HDR 120hz panel would have added a whole lot more than €100 to the screen I reckon.
I think a lot of content creators are complaining about Switch 2 "issues" because they're hoping that some of the 3.5 million happy users will click to see what is wrong with the device they're enjoying or that people who aren't getting it can have an echo chamber to make them feel better about missing out on the hottest hot cake in gaming history.
I'm sure looking at the launch sales that the big N will be happy enough with their choice and the few vocal people who would definitely have bought it if it was OLED and cost 800euros aren't a major concern to Nintendo.
Great article, really nice to get a reminder of some of the switch ports which were impressive that they could even launch.... But did run in a fairly sad state on the little console from 2017, switch 2 has pumped new life into my crazy large back catalog of switch games which I'm now super eager to look forward to playing due to the new hardware power.
Really love that you commented on the difference in the speed the switch 2 can show the upgraded skin textures in comparison to how the switch 1 sometimes would not have loaded them before the person walked away, died, killed you or whatever. Really hoping that epic turn out a switch 2 version of rocket League soon.
@B_Lindz Aye, the total sales of all storage versions of both the original and the OLED model Steam Deck.
I own a Steam Deck and it is a cool system, but I am aware that it is the most Niche thing in the world and has no mass market appeal when compared to something like a Switch, anyone who was yelling online of anything other than that was deluding themselves and trying to misinform others. Which is a shame because the Steam Deck is a number of things... but a Switch 2 rival it's not.
That's a pretty incredible launch, I'm very happy with my day 1 Mario Kart bundle, my main worry was about how the backwards compatibility would be... but man was I blown away by how good it runs Switch one titles, some of them feel like they've already gotten their Switch 2 versions just from how good the dynamic resolution changes are or how smooth the framerate is.
One thing that I feel is not mentioned enough or at all with backwards compatibility is the texture popin fixes that it brings, on cars in Rocket league for example on the Switch 1 it could take upwards of 20 seconds for a car to load the high res version of the decal on them, but on Switch 2 it takes a fraction of a second and it never seems to go back to the lower res version, I've noticed it in other games too like on GTA3 where popin would happen on Switch 1, the Switch 2 makes it feel like a much more solid world as the internal storage is so much faster.
Really can't see this happening ever but especially after the reveal trailer had a really out of place dig at "that other Kart series we wont mention by name" about the fact that Super Sonic Knockoff Kart would be multiplatform, of course Sonic is cross platform now, you guys tanked your own platform back at the end of the 90s.
That dig at Mario Kart would only do one thing, get people to compare this gave against either Mario Kart 8 Deluxe or Mario Kart World and there is no way in the universe that this future 69% Metacritic game is doing anything to those games other than reminding people just how good the MK games are.
That's so cool that Nintendo is working on making switch 1 core titles even better on switch 2. Love these free upgrades I mean... How can we complain?
Tried the no man sky patch applied to my physical version of the switch 1 cartridge, works perfectly and looks generationally better now than the switch 1 version.
Just spent the last 4 hours playing this game in 4 player split screen with a bunch of friends. Absolutely worth every cent, also 2 friends were on the fence about getting a switch 2, tonight Mario kart world sold 2 more systems.
@BloodWolfe yeah blood Wolf, digital foundry even did a really cool redemption video on how the devs went back to make an apology port basically. It's not an extra thing you need to buy or anything, just if you have Ark on switch the version you get from the eshop is now this fixed one. It's actually very playable.
@BloodWolfe you know the devs of that game went back and completely recreated the switch port? It actually really was impressive how much better that was after they put in some really good work. But yes now the updated fixed switch 1 version will work even better on switch 2
@skwaark every single switch 1 title I've played which had any form of dynamic setting or variable / bad frame rate has been massively improved on switch 2
Also as others have said here, the loading times in switch games have been sliced to a couple of seconds in games where it used to take 20+
Doom eternal is now working on switch 2 as well and that's a locked 30fps with the dynamic res staying at the maximum possible assigned to the switch one at all times
I was so worried I would need to keep my switch 1 but the switch 2 beats it in every single way.... (Except my switch 1 has a 1.5tb micro SD in it, can't wait for larger more affordable SD express cards to become available)
I wonder how this will work with the physical version of the switch 1 game? I've actually had that cart since launch but never got around to playing it. This is amazing news and gives me another switch 2 title to play tomorrow 🥳🥳🥳
I still have my absolute mountain of Switch 1 Pro controllers (the Tears of the kingdom one is just beautiful) but I couldn't resist pre ordering the GC pad and Pro 2.
Also LOL at people saying it's a cash grab from Nintendo, like... you know the way the PS3 controller works with the PS4 or the PS4 with the PS5? Yeah me neither.
I absolutely expect this to be the case with the switch 2, you know it's going to just be a matter of days before there's news stories of horrified parents saying that lil Jimmy saw someone's massive hog while playing Mario kart world and that's gonna be the end of camera support in the switch 2
That's pretty cool, like others said here 9 seconds isn't huge but when you're playing a game like this for hundreds of hours that's going to add up pretty fast, also I feel reducing the loading times by anything is awesome for maintaining immersion in the game.
It's cool to think though, switch one used SD cards and emmc type storage, subpar to the slowest type of mechanic HDD, switch 2 is landing somewhere between SSD and nvme in terms of storage speed. Will make a lot of games a lot more enjoyable.
Also 2.50 cost for the upgrade, amazing stuff, puts places like Sega to shame.
@rvcolem1 They showed off the improved loading times in a bunch of Switch 1 software, one in particular was the Yoshi game which runs on Unreal Engine got a massive boost to loading times even though that game is not getting any Switch 2 patch at all so far. The storage inside the Switch 2 is closer to that in the PS5 or an NVMe Hard drive, where the Switch 1 storage speed is below that of a PS4 or laptops 2.5inch mechanical HDD, it's a leap in storage speed of 2 generations (or a bit more). Results should be very good for most software.
@Mariotag Yeah they got added into a very good smash clone called Brawlout, it's available on most platforms. Can be gotten on very significant discount at times.
@garfreek That's why I really like this system compared to just outright buying stuff from the virtual console, I have bought a bunch of games from the Arcade Archives series which I know I would like... but a load of these games I would never know and wouldn't give a second look if they were standalone games on the eshop, but I spent a few hours this morning playing the 4 of these and I've already clocked up 2 hours of Killer Instinct Gold this week in the N64 titles.
You hit the nail on the head with getting games lent to you from a friend... or the old school feeling where you go to rent out a game and find the one you wanted was already rented so you need to pick something else and you end up going off which one has a cool cover or name and it ends up being...... awful (but sometimes great)
Is there any info about an upgrade path from Switch version to the Switch 2 version which is coming out? Would save data continue from one to the next.
Very strange time to be considering buying any Switch software if you have the Switch 2 pre ordered, knowing that a company could ask you to pay twice for jumping the gun and supporting them too early.
Edit: Checked their official site for info

It would sound good... if not for the playstation upgrade from PS4 > 5 version being free. Awww well, I guess at least it's better than nothing.
@Mario500 oh yeah you can, but I think they cost about the same as a year of NSO, Nintendo are really smart about including stuff which costs a bit with that subscription.
Kinda like how breath of the wild and tears switch 2 patches are included with membership, or cost 20 euro. They just really want people to sub (mit)
@USWITCH64 It's absolutely amazing for single player and multiplayer content, both local and online multiplayer. If you have an active Nintendo Switch Online account you'll also get a ton of bonus DLC tracks on top of all the content which came with the game originally on the WiiU as well as the original Deluxe content which was DLC for the WiiU but included in the base Switch title.
Only issue with buying this game now really is the fact that the price never really goes down too much on physical copies of this, you can see sales online from the eshop where it has dropped to €40 though but can be a while waiting for those.
@IronMan30 Ohhhh, I didn't know that WB had been open about their stance on Games going SW1 > SW2, I've seen some nice sales on the complete version of MK1 on SW1 but didn't jump in because I'm not sure how if at all they are going to handle a possible SW2 upgrade or how they'll do it.
Just don't want to end up buying a very low res version of that game and then being asked to pay full price again in 2 weeks time when the Switch 2 drops.
Edit : Wow, just looked up the stuff they've done with that Harry Potter Legacy on Switch, indeed there is an upgrade path for digital owners and they even have patched into the physical copies of the game a link to follow to pre order the Switch 2 version for $/€10 Gotta tip the hat to WB for that.
Ah... that's very sad to hear, really loved both Yooka-Laylee games and their breaking of the 4th wall in their appearances in other games is really fun. I hope everyone is financially stable with this news.
With Sega's nonsense regarding Sonic X Shadow Generations I will be looking to everything else than a Sega title for the Switch 2, gotta send a message that hurting your most loyal fans is bad for your business.
@Dang_69 Whoa really? Like... start up issues or they've just made it straight up not work? Guess they gotta sell another copy of Mega Man 2 on yet another generation.
Definitely agree with holding off buying ANY Switch software until companies are clear about their Switch 2 policies.
@SpaceFox myself and friends play this one a lot in 3/4 player split screen.
Would be awesome if they would give that one touch up on the switch 2 to allow those modes also work at 60fps as it's always been 30 when you cut the screen in 4.
Otherwise yeah... Mk8d with all the dlc cups is an amazing game which has given tons of play both single player and as a party game, I have mkw pre-ordered on day one with the switch 2 but I'm sure it will be a bit until it has every track from mk8d so I could see us popping back to that game during Grand Prix sessions to hit up tick tick clock or that awesome bowsers Castle SNES remake.
@Bentleyma we had a bunch of friends over to play mk8d the last weekend, I feel for your withdrawal symptoms.
I tried to play rollercoaster tycoon 3 complete edition for the first time this weekend.... Oh my the controls for that game are so counterintuitive. It's actually close to unplayable imo just from the controls, I spent about 2 hours in the sandbox fighting with them. Just awful. Very sad because it looks and runs quite nice. Strongly unrecommend!
@mikegamer it's gotta be said that GTA 6 is going to be a huge title that every site will talk about when any news drops about it. Think the second trailer passed half a billion views in the first couple of days.
I'll be honest though.... I'd love to see a version of gtaiv on switch(2) loved that games setting and story, would love to take Nico's cousin out to play bowling on a handheld.
It's kinda crazy but my main hype for switch 2 is 4 different games which feature Link from old systems. All of which I've played so much on their OG hardware.
Breath of the wild getting a full master mode play through in 60fps on launch!
That's pretty cool to see.... although I am kinda wondering how he was Winning in THPS2? Would he mean getting the goals in career mode, those were 2 minute runs just... that's some bad planning if he needed to miss a plane just so he could Ollie the magic bum.
Maybe his history with the series inspired getting the tickets to your friends in the Airport level of THPS3 so they don't miss their flight?
@mikegamer Yeah, it's kinda odd to even publish the ramblings of this person as if it was news really. I guess any talk about GTA6 is gonna drive traffic though. I do feel that Rockstar would definitely not be considering rehiring this lad any time soon seeing him cause PR issues for them for zero gain.

Re: Video: Puyo Puyo Tetris 2S Shows Off Nintendo Switch 2 Camera Support
@Toastmaster
I absolutely expect this to be the case with the switch 2, you know it's going to just be a matter of days before there's news stories of horrified parents saying that lil Jimmy saw someone's massive hog while playing Mario kart world and that's gonna be the end of camera support in the switch 2
Re: New Videos Show How Fantasy Life i Has Been Beefed Up On Switch 2
Re: Nintendo Switch System Update 20.1.0 Is Now Live, Here Are The Full Patch Notes
@jesse_dylan Switch Save data for games is never stored on the SD card, if you mean game data... what do you mean lose it? Stop losing your SD cards.
Re: Animal Crossing: New Horizons Update 2.0.7 Patch Notes - Switch & Switch 2 Multiplayer Compatibility "Improved"
Re: Yooka-Laylee Dev Playtonic Is The Latest Studio Hit By Layoffs
@Mariotag Yeah they got added into a very good smash clone called Brawlout, it's available on most platforms. Can be gotten on very significant discount at times.

It's a good smash clone and the roster has some really cool cameo fighters in there. The main character from Guacamelee is featured as well.
Re: Nintendo Expands Switch Online's Game Boy Library With Four More Titles
@garfreek That's why I really like this system compared to just outright buying stuff from the virtual console, I have bought a bunch of games from the Arcade Archives series which I know I would like... but a load of these games I would never know and wouldn't give a second look if they were standalone games on the eshop, but I spent a few hours this morning playing the 4 of these and I've already clocked up 2 hours of Killer Instinct Gold this week in the N64 titles.
You hit the nail on the head with getting games lent to you from a friend... or the old school feeling where you go to rent out a game and find the one you wanted was already rented so you need to pick something else and you end up going off which one has a cool cover or name and it ends up being...... awful (but sometimes great)
Re: Video: Here's How Fantasy Life i: The Girl Who Steals Time Runs On Switch
Is there any info about an upgrade path from Switch version to the Switch 2 version which is coming out? Would save data continue from one to the next.
Very strange time to be considering buying any Switch software if you have the Switch 2 pre ordered, knowing that a company could ask you to pay twice for jumping the gun and supporting them too early.
Edit: Checked their official site for info

It would sound good... if not for the playstation upgrade from PS4 > 5 version being free. Awww well, I guess at least it's better than nothing.
Re: Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Has Been Updated To Version 3.0.5, Here Are The Full Patch Notes
Re: Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Has Been Updated To Version 3.0.5, Here Are The Full Patch Notes
Re: Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Has Been Updated To Version 3.0.5, Here Are The Full Patch Notes
@BlaizeV The worst thing about all these patches is that they keep getting the song from that stage stuck in my head... It's just too catchy.
Re: First Impressions: We've Played Three SEGA Games On Switch 2
Re: Yooka-Laylee Dev Playtonic Is The Latest Studio Hit By Layoffs
Ah... that's very sad to hear, really loved both Yooka-Laylee games and their breaking of the 4th wall in their appearances in other games is really fun. I hope everyone is financially stable with this news.
Re: First Impressions: We've Played Three SEGA Games On Switch 2
With Sega's nonsense regarding Sonic X Shadow Generations I will be looking to everything else than a Sega title for the Switch 2, gotta send a message that hurting your most loyal fans is bad for your business.
Re: Round Up: The Reviews Are In For Capcom Fighting Collection 2
@Dang_69 Whoa really? Like... start up issues or they've just made it straight up not work? Guess they gotta sell another copy of Mega Man 2 on yet another generation.
Definitely agree with holding off buying ANY Switch software until companies are clear about their Switch 2 policies.
Re: Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Has Been Updated To Version 3.0.4, Here Are The Full Patch Notes
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (10th May)
@Bentleyma we had a bunch of friends over to play mk8d the last weekend, I feel for your withdrawal symptoms.
Re: Former Rockstar Dev Throws Shade At Mario Kart World, Says New GTA Will Be Worth The Price
Re: Nintendo Shares More Footage Of Zelda: Wind Waker On Switch 2
It's kinda crazy but my main hype for switch 2 is 4 different games which feature Link from old systems. All of which I've played so much on their OG hardware.
Breath of the wild getting a full master mode play through in 60fps on launch!
Re: Bam Margera Officially Confirmed For Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 + 4
That's pretty cool to see.... although I am kinda wondering how he was Winning in THPS2? Would he mean getting the goals in career mode, those were 2 minute runs just... that's some bad planning if he needed to miss a plane just so he could Ollie the magic bum.
Maybe his history with the series inspired getting the tickets to your friends in the Airport level of THPS3 so they don't miss their flight?
Re: Former Rockstar Dev Throws Shade At Mario Kart World, Says New GTA Will Be Worth The Price
Re: Former Rockstar Dev Throws Shade At Mario Kart World, Says New GTA Will Be Worth The Price
@thaimbomb Ah, you've got a press release of all Rock Star port plans? If you find the users of this site cringe... why prey tell are you here? 😅
