Genuinely surprised Nintendo Life didn't run this story with the title of 'Shock Bowser Resignation' for maximum views. One of the few times they could probably be forgiven for click baiting, since Doug's name is probably the only thing most folks will remember about his tenure.
To everyone saying the review should be about the quality of the presentation of these games rather than the actual games. That's great up until you're someone who drops their hard-earned money on this absolute dreck because they read some seemingly 'positive' reviews and thought they'd check the series out.
@Synecdoche Yes, and I think the Master System might even lay claim to having the very first released version of Sonic if memory serves. Or maybe it was the sequel. Either way they're a bit like alternate versions of the better known Mega Drive/Genesis games. It's sort of a DK Country/Land situation.
The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles for me, as well as a shared playthrough of the OG Until Dawn with my partner. I had every intention of finally getting started on Unicorn Overlord as well, but as ever there just aren't enough hours in eternity for all the great games out there. Happy gaming everyone!
The amount of development time that's gone into this makes me reasonably confident the bike won't just be a gimmcky afterthought even if it probably shouldn't be too integral to the core gameplay (Hello Arkham Knight Batmobile!). And at the end of the day it doesn't have to do much to beat out the near-pointlessness of the gunship from Prime 3, so I'm sure it'll be fine.
It's weird. Looking at them all laid out like that, that is an objectively stellar line-up of titles headed the Switch 2's way. And yet it really does still feel like that Direct was underwhelming. No mainline Zelda, no Smash, no Splatoon. The system still feels like it's missing that tentpole release that can really get the fanbase clamouring.
If you just play Undertale once, finish it and move on (like my brother did) I can see why you might not necessarily understand the apparently outsized impact this game has had on gaming culture. Undertale as a game is underwhelming. Undertale as a story you are an active agent in is phenomenal, and that's its special sauce. As a piece of interactive fiction I'm not sure Undertale is going to be surpassed any time soon in terms of what it does. Happy anniversary, Undertale.
Would love to get these, but at that price I can't really justify it when I can always just play the old ones. Absolutely worth it for anyone who's yet to experience these masterpieces though.
Koei-Tecmo are continuing on their path to full absorption by the great Nintendo overmind, I see. Probably not a bad thing since they seem to put in more effort than usual when they're being paid in Mario coin. Could be a surprising success story.
Not sure why anyone's surprised by this. These games are jewels in the crown of Nintendo's gaming empire. Disney used to do exactly the same with their animated classics. Their view is 'You give people cheap Mario now then they'll just want cheap Mario all the time.'
No trashy, exploitative shock schlock backed by a morally dubious ad campaign to herald the rebirth of gaming's sleaziest sons?. Go home Acclaim, you're not drunk.
I had every intention of starting Golden Sun 2 after finishing the first one and having a great time with it...until I was confronted with the ludicrously long passcode you needed to manually transfer completion data between the two games and gave up after spending about half an hour trying (and failing) to replicate it exactly in a notebook. Maybe it's time to give it another shot now I have decent camera phone xD
As the co-owner of a VW campervan I feel duty-bound to cheer on Make It Home, hopefully it'll find an appreciative audience out there beyond the Deepnest.
I played about half of Magical Starsign years ago but eventually just got bored of it and moved in. It was very pretty, but I think I lost patience with the gimmicky stylus stuff (as I did with a lot of DS games, in fairness.) so maybe the earlier games in the series might be more palatable.
@horizonisland Which, of course, is why they'd never do it. Hundreds of hours spent playing Fire Emblem Ultimate Mega Awesome Edition is hundreds of hours you're not spending money on other Nintendo products.
@Suketoudara Tetris Attack definitely had some remixed Yoshi Island tracks serving as BGM for a few stages/modes. Haven't played Panel De Pon outside of a brief boot up but now I want to go ahead and see what the soundtrack's like for myself. The final Bowser battle music has always stuck with me over the years.
Played this pretty consistently for the first few years on PS4 before life necessitated cutting it out of my gaming schedule. I don't imagine I'll go back to it any time soon but I will admit to a degree of envy for anyone who'll be jumping aboard for the first time. It's a genuinely great game. Closest thing I had to a main was probably Octane since I was a big 'ole chicken who ran away from most gunfights, but I'd have loved to be better at Bloodhound. Such a cool ultimate.
Metroid Dread's map is nowhere near as intuitive or tightly plotted as Super Metroid's. It's honestly surprising how much of a mess they made of that given the quality of the rest of the game.
If this is going to retail at the same ludicrous price point the first Neverwinter Nights did then I can't imagine this is going to sell at all. A shame, since I've always wanted to play it.
I love adventure games, and I love plenty of other Spike Chunsoft titles, but bow howdy have I struggled to get anywhere in the Somnium FIles series. The characters are just intolerable.
@N00BiSH If that's your view, fine. I'd say it's quite a difference between allowing an ostrich to soar to the heavens than giving one a cheeky chicken flap to lean into the fact the creature is known to be flightless.
@RadioShadow Hard to see how they could possibly get away with this given that the fault would lie with whoever sold the copy early rather than the recipient. You can't expect everyone to magically 'know' when a game is and isn't supposed to be available after all.
There sure is a heck of a lot of Animal Crossing promotion going on right now. Does this mean something's coming down the pipeline for the Switch 2 in the relatively near future?
I think some people may just need to accept that all those eight year olds tearing it up on Mario Kart probably aren't down for running a Japanese crime syndicate or using an X-rated character creation suite to make a dystopian cyborg antihero.
OG Wind Waker is gorgeous and full of charm but it also comes with a boatload of tedium that keeps it out of the upper echelons of Zelda entries if you ask me. In a world where the superior HD remaster exist it can really only be an 8/10 these days.
I'm with whoever said they should have included this with the online Expansion Pass. That way it would have felt more like the reward for dedicated Nintendo nerds it's clearly looking to be.
Feels like Miyamato's been 'stepping back' from active participation in game development for twenty years at this point. Maybe he actually, finally has.
NA/EU is more badass, and lets you see way more of the roster to boot. By contrast everyone on the Japanese box is staring at something completely different to everyone else.
The shop shouldn't be doing anything to actively damage the product or its packaging if they're selling it as new. This could get pricy for GameStop in a hurry if someone decides to sue.
