Please stop the NSO save state and rewind arguments. There are ways around that. They could disable those features for these games specifically. Or if that's really not an option, include them as extras in the expansion pass similar to offerings like the tetris or f-zero games. Or the number of dlc/expansions.
This is Nintendo seeing an opportunity to rinse us. I don't even usually complain about the perceived anti-consumer practices they have, as I can at least see pros and cons in most of those. Nintendo just saw the money here, and even anticipated that it would not be popular - enough so to pre-empt them to prepare and release docs alongside the announcement to try and defend this decision.
Bringing out fire red and leaf green for the anniversary is fun. Making it paid is not - not when they are pretty categorically 'classic' games that should be on the classic games service that many of us already pay for, and now are wondering what we are paying for.
It would be fun to charge more for these, I'm sure. I know there are benefits to this being a separate release that can be purchased separately from the sub. But this leaves a bit of a sour taste for me. I'd love to have these games as part of NSO, but now that I know we're not even shielded from Nintendo pulling stuff like this, I don't think I want to support this anymore.
And yeah, I know we weren't necessarily going to get these on NSO anyway, perhaps these are only available because they can charge for them. But this is a bad look no matter how you spin it. These don't even look like enhanced versions.
Ok if they are going to ask for money for this separately, all for that. I know some people will just want to have this permanently on their system.
But this does feel like it's setting a precedent now. Why is this not on NSO GBA? Other Pokemon mainline games going to be separate purchases as well? What about colloseum, which we know is coming to GC NSO at some point?
I'm only really interested in this if it substantially adds to the single player experience. I would like the resolution bump, but lumping it with the multiplayer experience really sucks, as I haven't played multiplayer switch games in years, really.
Really wish it was a set of three separate downloads. Performance patch for free. Single player content, half the price. Multiplayer content the other half.
I just don't think they've been competitive for a long time. Games are not like food, where there may be a perceived jump in quality if you pay more (in general) for another brand.
If you want to buy the next big game, I'm going to buy it from wherever is cheapest, which I don't think has ever been game. Last thing I remember buying from them was my launch 3DS, and I believe that was only because I wanted to trade in a few things towards it + wanted it for the midnight launch.
I'm tempted to get Donkey Kong Country Returns HD. I enjoyed that back on the wii, and this recent switch 2 update has me intrigued.
I suppose other games I'm somewhat interested in...
Pokemon Legends Z-A Luigi's Mansion 2 (though I own this on 3DS) Xenoblade Chronicles X (I own this one on Wii U) Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze (Again, own on the Wii U) Pokken Tournament (I own on Wii U) Fire Emblem Warriors Three Hopes (I don't know if I'm burned out on these warriors games... and would rather get the new zelda one anyway) Advance Wars 1+2 Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE Encore
So yeah, plenty I could use a voucher on. But given I've not bought any of these yet, I wonder if this is just me getting FOMO. I'm not sure if Nintendo are planning to add any more games to this list before this time next year... so maybe I'll get a pair of vouchers and see what happens. Got two hours to decide...
Goof Troop is one of my favourite childhood gaming experiences. This game is as good as anything else on the SNES in my opinion. Absolutely love that this is coming out again!
Next do Mickey's Magical Quest! That was my other favourite Disney game as a child!
Eh. I only owned the original grey joycons (oh and some third party hori pads) for my original switch, and I imagine I'll do the same here.
I am waiting for a nice looking switch 2 pad though. That resi one really isn't doing it for me. Perhaps a Zelda themed one, down the line? Metroid or Xenoblade might also get me to open my wallet.
Those at the top are chasing growth and profits. They are seeing AI as a way to generate more money quickly, sometimes with little concern over the quality of the products produced.
There's lots of reasons for and against using different types of AI, and I'm not strongly for or against. I see it as a tool, just one that seems like it will be so easy to abuse, and people will make bad decisions based on it. Bad products will come out of it. But there will also be good ones, and it will also enable in some cases better games done quicker (and of course, improvements in so many non gaming applications).
The ethical side of all of this is a whole other story. Some see it as plagiarism, what about job security, etc. All things I think the world is struggling to figure out.
Great, I always wanted one for the original switch but it felt like it came about far too late in the console's life. I might well get this for switch 2 if it reviews well
This game was a lot of fun, I 100%ed it on PC around Christmas last year, now trawling through rebirth. I'm excited for those who have yet to play this, it's worth the storage space. But I'll be finishing the trilogy on PC personally, where it's really not even a concern.
I thought this one was certainly one of the stronger tales games of late. Well, my favourite is probably still Vesperia, and I would probably put arise and Symphonia underneath, and then probably berseria. Then it probably gets murky for me, I've played a few others (abyss, xillia 1 and zesteria from what I recall) but they all fall down to the bottom for me. Maybe I'd buy this if it came with switch 2 enhancements....
Kids and those who don't think about how their games are made, or about the quality of their games, probably don't notice the ai slop. Anyone with a bit more of a discerning eye probably does. And I'm not saying that using AI automatically leads to slop, but it sure as hell helps to generate slop.
That's besides all the more ethical issues, which I'm sure many of those arguments have already been listed on countless articles and comment sections
I never played the original so no nostalgia there.
I struggled to enjoy this in the test ride initially, thinking it was just far too hectic and unfocussed. I played a bit more to see if I could find something a bit deeper, but it still eludes me. That said, I did slightly warm up to the game itself, it had moments of fun. Maybe other modes in the full game would grab me more.
I think I am one of those that was put off by the test ride though. I might have bought this, but knowing what I know now, certainly not for full or close to full price.
I haven't bought the new one yet, I still need to finish age of calamity. I might be in the minority, but I'm waiting for a patch to upgrade aoc on switch 2 first, I'm struggling to find the motivation to play it without. Though I wonder if that's never going to come, I'm not sure how much we can expect in terms of old games getting upgraded.
Then maybe I'll see about buying the new one when I'm done with the old one - I'm in no rush.
I never really cared much for Xbox, but years ago it had exclusives that drew me to the platform. I bought a series s early on, but that's a glorified streaming box now. I did have gamepass for a couple of years, but I came to the conclusion that I wasn't playing enough of the games to warrant continuing, and it annoyed me several times when a game I was playing would come out of the service. Now I'll just stick to buying my games.
And I have a PC and switch 2. There are fewer and fewer Xbox studio games I care about nowadays, I'll just buy those on steam now. I have a switch 2 because of the exclusives that I know will come, not because I value the brand or platform more than anything else.
So maybe I win in this deal anyway as I don't have to buy every console to play the games I want to play.
A little sad to say I have no plans to buy this. It's the first one that I consider to be somewhat mainstream that I've not bought at launch. I fell off hard on the switch era, like a lot of others for similar reasons.
I do still have violet to play through on my switch 2, even to this day I've only managed about an hour of gameplay in it. Maybe if I can get through that, I might move on eventually...
I have 3d all stars for galaxy 1 and I still have my Wii copy of galaxy 2. That said, the Wii is in the loft and I would like to play the game again with the enhancements. But not for the price they are going at. Not sure how Metroid Prime was so on point with the price and this is so far beyond that.
Not sure there was a single reason to not show collectibles already found on the map, from a gameplay perspective. Such a simple feature will go a long way in actually getting a lot of people to enjoy looking for things when they can see clearly where there are big gaps.
Maybe the cardboard version, I'll also wait and see if this can be done DIY. Though it looks like the idea there is that you hold the switch up to your face with the cardboard just on it somehow... Sounds rather flimsy, and probably exhausting
Wow ok. I've not had time to finish of everything I wanted in the main game yet, but maybe I'll get this to make it easier to go back to? This coming out so soon tells me that it's mostly cut content from the main game... But then again the main game was expansive enough that I'm not too fussed.
Single player content? I have a feeling this will be one of these more expensive switch 2 upgrades, and I'm not sure I want it just for multiplayer that I won't touch.
I love this on PC. I don't think I'll be buying again, but I'm happy to have confirmation that it'll finally be out of early access and hopefully I'll be ready to pick this up again after silksong!
The game looks very charming. But I am not super convinced about the gameplay, these yoshi games have all been so watered down. Last one I kind of enjoyed I think was yoshi island 2...
Why isn't this just being added to all stars? Would have been nice for Nintendo to make that available again, but I'm guessing they are trying to make that 'special' by not having it be available...
Unfortunately I imagine the odd uninformed parent or young child may pick this up, and maybe they'll have half an hour of wacky fun with this. But probably not.
I remember that was me as a child - I had access to Bubsy 1 on SNES and just remember feeling like I liked the character, but nothing much past that. I can vividly remember some of those cheap deaths, and admittedly I didn't think I ever got past those first fee levels anyway.
The way I'm seeing this is just that team cherry are super lucky, super talented and super deserving of all the accolades and money coming their way. They shouldn't be subject to what other developers think pricing should look like just because it makes them look bad. If anything, it should be a kick for them to re-evaluate the quality of their own output if it scares them.
And yeah, that's probably a tough pill for most, as getting to the level of team cherry with Hollow Knight is going to be insanely difficult, nigh on unfeasible for most.
That's not to say I don't see the argument the other way. It's similar to how companies like Ubisoft are seen devaluing games so quickly that it's warped public perception such that people won't pay full price for brand new releases.
I'm somewhat interested in getting this remake, but probably not for full price. If they want me to pay that, make a new game and make it good. This kind of comment just makes me not want to support the business - spend money on this (IMO) lazy looking remake just to potentially have to spend more money for a new game?
If you just want to test the waters, and see if there is an appetite, I would have much preferred new content, even if it was a smaller project for half the price.
I dunno. 4 hours of content is not much, but at the same time, there is a very decent chance I'll actually enjoy those hours and end up completing it all. This would have been a no brainer at maybe half the price. It really should have been updated res/fps for free and only charging for the additional content (because honestly, the current strategy of sometimes charging for res and fps bumps is not clear).
I feel like at this price the only reason I might buy this is because I'm done with all my other switch 2 experiences. But it's the difference between being ecstatic about my purchase and being kinda ok with it.
It's obviously just a cash grab including all of these other characters, and honestly sounds like it lowers the overall quality of the game. I'd much rather just a solid core set of Sonic characters. Dlc is fine, but only if they integrate properly (there is surely lots they can do with exclusively sonic ip)
And that unfortunately even goes as someone who would only pick the Sonic characters myself. It sounds rubbish if I'm in a race with loads of other characters that won't interact with mine to the same degree.
It looks great... But honestly they would have kept this one back for a couple more years if you ask me when Mario Kart World had been out for long enough. A smaller, very different game would have been perfect for this spot if you ask me.
Definitely got enjoyment out of the first game on the SNES when I was growing up. Never played the others, and I've not heard great things, so I'll probably pass
I don't understand why various publishers are offering upgrades on some games, but totally separate games on another. It's really off putting - I feel like I won't be buying any switch 1 games anymore until I find out the situation with switch 2 upgrades
I feel like it should be standard to provide upgrades if content is on switch 1 and 2. Make it paid for if you absolutely must, but this is going to put people off buying games. It's certainly putting me off.
More than ports please. I've played everything I want to play on other platforms, and I'm certainly not buying £50 versions of something I can get for a fraction of that with better performance on PC.
Maybe I'm just not the target audience for this since I've invested heavily in PC gaming... I might have to just stick to the exclusives
I used these fairly often but have slowed down recently. Think Mario and Luigi Brothership was the last one I got with one. Will probably get a couple more for Metroid prime 4, but I don't know what other game I'll get with the spare. And I'm not sure buying more for undisclosed games in 2026 is a good idea... Maybe if some decent sounding switch games are announced for that period...

Re: Round Up: The Reviews Are In For Pokémon Pokopia
Thank God. I'm glad this got good reviews - I was worried about this.
But now I think I'll get it! This does feel like a digital game purchase to me...
Re: Pokémon Presents February 2026: Every Announcement - How Would You Rate It?
The new gen looks better, and I'm so hopeful it can bring it around.
Champions is also interesting, so looking forward to that.
The red/green downloads re-releases suck, there is nothing fun about those prices for an NSO subscriber.
And the music thing at the start looks honestly like a waste of plastic.
So I'm mixed...

And that unfortunately even goes as someone who would only pick the Sonic characters myself. It sounds rubbish if I'm in a race with loads of other characters that won't interact with mine to the same degree.
Re: Hollow Knight: Silksong "Special Announcement" Is Coming Today
I can dream for a shadow drop right? That would be very special.
Re: Kirby Air Riders Zooms Onto Switch 2 This November
It looks great... But honestly they would have kept this one back for a couple more years if you ask me when Mario Kart World had been out for long enough. A smaller, very different game would have been perfect for this spot if you ask me.
I mean I'll still get it and likely love it...
Re: Bubsy In: The Purrfect Collection Slinks Onto Switch This September
Definitely got enjoyment out of the first game on the SNES when I was growing up. Never played the others, and I've not heard great things, so I'll probably pass
Re: Oops, Bandai Namco May Have Leaked The Next 'Tales' Series Remaster
This was a good one, hoping for a double pack!
Re: Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake Gets Free Switch 2 Performance Patch
I don't understand why various publishers are offering upgrades on some games, but totally separate games on another. It's really off putting - I feel like I won't be buying any switch 1 games anymore until I find out the situation with switch 2 upgrades
Re: Octopath 0 Is A Game-Key Card On Switch 2, And Square Enix Has "No Plans" For A Switch 1 Upgrade Option
I feel like it should be standard to provide upgrades if content is on switch 1 and 2. Make it paid for if you absolutely must, but this is going to put people off buying games. It's certainly putting me off.
Re: Nintendo Direct Partner Showcase Announced For Tomorrow, 31st July 2025
More than ports please. I've played everything I want to play on other platforms, and I'm certainly not buying £50 versions of something I can get for a fraction of that with better performance on PC.
Maybe I'm just not the target audience for this since I've invested heavily in PC gaming... I might have to just stick to the exclusives
Re: Nintendo Will Discontinue Switch Game Vouchers Entirely In 2026
I used these fairly often but have slowed down recently.
