Re: Talking Point: Does Nintendo's Next Console Have To Be 'Another' Switch?

Riverlution

Nintendo gave us the switch and it's been great. But let's be honest - we're gonna see other devices that do what the switch does, arguably much better. I own a steam deck, and now only use the switch for games I can't get on there.

While I think it makes business sense to just make the switch 2, I'd personally like to see something new that only Nintendo would do. It's starting to feel like forever since we've genuinely had a new way to play (sure, handheld gaming of this caliber was and is very welcome and should be here to stay), but maybe it's time for something radical. Let the other companies push the boundaries of what could be possible with handheld gaming, and let Nintendo innovate. So long as the games it comes out with are good, but that's rarely been a problem.

Re: Nintendo Says To Stop Using Its Wi-Fi USB Connector Due To Security Concerns

Riverlution

I have one, ahh the memories. It was the only way I could get online to play Mario Kart DS online as we didn't have a wireless router when that came out. It was very awkward to use, but I loved it. Jump forward to the release of the wii, and I was still having to make use of it then to play those games online, and to even download wiiware/ wii vc games.

By that point I was pretty fed up with the problems it had, and never looked back once we finally got wireless broadband.

Re: Poll: What's The Best Star Fox Game?

Riverlution

Lylat wars for me. I keep hoping for a modern reboot of a game in that style, without too many of the gimmicks that hampered the other games.

That said, I've played almost all of them, and had a good me with each.

Re: Pokémon Unite Leak Reveals You Can Dress Up Your Monsters In Dapper Outfits

Riverlution

Never touched a moba, so not sure I'm in this game's target audience other than it being pokemon. I'm sure this was inevitable though. This and the ability to pay money for pokemon that have large advantages over the rest. And I've seen the prices charged for pokemon micro transactions - it's insane.

I'll likely give it a go to confirm my doubts about the game itself, but almost certainly won't be giving them any money for a skin or an unlockable.

Re: Pikmin 3 Opening Week Physical Sales Were Lower On Switch Than Wii U (UK)

Riverlution

If only there was a way to upgrade my digital wii u version to switch. Or the other load of first party wii u games I have that have been ported.

I appreciate work has gone into this release, but they already had my support on the last console. It's a good game, but they would probably have got more support from wii u owners if there was some kind of upgrade route. Not saying it should be free, but I feel £40 is a bit much for what this offers.

That said, maybe they are banking more on wii u owners double dipping at full price.

Re: Dragalia Lost Generated $106 Million In Player Spending In First Year

Riverlution

Definitely the one mobile game I've ever played, and the only one I've ever come somewhat close to giving some money, even though I'm quite against f2p games in general. The amount of content they include is staggering and I often run out of time when events are on before completing everything.
Anyone interested, the one year anniversary event is taking place now and they are being really generous with free stuff right now.

Re: Gawk at 'Classic Sonic' Dashing Through Green Hill Zone in Sonic Forces

Riverlution

Please don't let that music get into the final game.

It's obvious they don't know what to do anymore with Sonic. I I know that's meant to be Classic gameplay (it looks as good as Classic Sonic in Generations anyway) but I can't help but feel this just the same game again, with slight different level designs.

Why can't we have a Sonic Adventure 3. How did they make two awesome 3D games, and since, everything has been somewhat mediocre, at best. Though, I guess making a game and calling it Sonic Adventure 3 doesn't mean it will be good...

Re: Poll: Are You Excited About Nintendo's Expanded E3 Plans?

Riverlution

I feel that this is already the worst E3 in a long time for Nintendo. I can't know for sure, but it seems like they've announced everything in advance - effectively, all this has done is move the disappointment from what would have been a lacklustre E3 forward a few weeks.

Whatever they have planned for the NX, I sure hope they have some big event planned for it. Knowing Nintendo though, it'll probably be a 20/25 minute Nintendo direct a month or so before it launches - something that most of the gaming community ignores. That, to me, is not going to build hype.
