Sonic again? How about something different, SEGA? I know Sonic is their most popular franchise, but they have so many other great games in their library that I would like to see again, like Billy Hatcher or Skies of Arcadia.
I hope this time it is something else than Sonic. SEGA has so many great franchises under their belt, but it seems people would rather play another buggy, rushed Sonic game, then a good non-Sonic game from them.
If they really want this to happen, they need to focus on gameplay first. But that was never the appeal of Sonic. They reason, why you wanted to play a Sonic game instead of a Mario game was so that you can play as Sonic, who was marketed as the next cool and hip thing in video gaming at the time. The cool factor of the character were always the focus of this franchise, therefore SEGA put most effort in creating a marketable and recognizable character, rather than creating a fun game mechanic and great level design.
There are a lot of Paper Mario inspired games out there. Kinda shows you, how much value this series has to the fans and that it was a big mistake of Nintendo to kill (the traditional series) it off. Thank god, they finally realized their mistake.
I wonder how many German kids might confuse Elephant Mario with Benjamin Blümchen, a popular German child icon, who is also am elephant that wears similar clothes.
Well, the only thing I can see is, that I wish him good luck. Charles Martinet can not live forever. It is either getting a new guy for the voices, or AI.
Meh... I just hope, that the counterpart of Peach from the film will not influence the game version too much. Peach from the film was actually the most boring character for me, because she was just a generic modern action girl.
No offense, but GameFreak has really proven this generation that they are just very backwards when it comes to video games. They just can't sensibly bring the Pokémon series into modern times. I only see three ways that Pokémon could go further:
1. Going back to the pixel/simple 3DS graphics era (generations 1 - 6).
2. Get support from an external studio, like Monolith.
3. It stays the way it is because no matter how poor the quality, the games still sell incredibly well.
This is actually a very good sign for other Nintendo franchises that haven got a new game for decades. If Another Code can come back, then so can Donkey Kong Country, Star Fox, Kid Icarus, and maybe even dead ones such as F-Zero and ARMS.
Pokémon has so much potential, but the franchise's quality is in a state that can be best describe as "good enough". As long as these games are good enough in the eyes of the costumes, they will buy them, therefore GameFreak has an excuse to not put quality into Pokémon games. If fans really want Pokémon to go the route of other franchise, such as Zelda or Pikmin, they really need to call out GameFreak.
Honestly, seeing how Rare fared under Microsoft's, I'm glad Nintendo didn't suffer that fate. Nintendo's games and philosophy simply don't fit with Microsoft. Each of the three major game developers has their own strengths:
Nintendo stands for games, fun, family friendliness and creativity.
Sony stands for graphics power, storytelling and presentation.
And Microsoft... um, I think "Halo", okay, I really don't know what exactly sets them apart from Nintendo or Sony.
It was okay, but this generation really shows you, how much focus Nintendo puts on the Mario brand, and the other franchises barely get anything. 3 games at best, if you are lucky and none, if you are unlucky (DK, Star Fox, Kid Icarus, F-Zero).
@Tirza To be honest, I prefer characters such as Link, Pauline, Diddy, and Funky over all of these alternative versions of Mario characters. I mean, look what most of the roster was, before the guest characters arrived. Baby, Mario, Baby Luigi, Baby Peach, Baby Daisy, Baby Rosalina, Metal Mario, Pink Gold Peach (literary, the worst character they have created) Toonki Mario, Cat Peach, Peachette now.
Personally, I would not mind, if the next Mario has mostly guest characters, such as King K. Rool, Zelda, Olimar, The Star Fox Crew, Captain Falcon, or even third party guest such as Banjo or Conker.
I'm so happy, that we get some proper Mario RPGs this console generation. But, boy, this Nintendo generation is very Mario centric, and also remake centric. Hopefully, the successor of the Nintendo Switch will focus a bit more on non-Mario games (I'm still missing a new DK game) and also on fewer remakes.
I do not expect much. The Nintendo Switch has almost all big games on its system: 2D-Mario, 3D-Mario, a Mario RPG, Mario Kart, Mario Party, Luigi's Mansion, all types of Mario Sports games (minus Baseball - but that was never huge), 2 open world Zeldas, a classic Zelda, two new generations of Pokémon, Pikmin, 2D Metroid, 2 Fire Emblem, 2 Wario Ware-games, 2 Xenoblads, 2 Splatoons, 2 2D-Kirbys, the first 3D-Kirby, a brand-new IP (ARMS), Animal Crossing, SSB, and even a Wii Fit game and Wii Sports game. Not to mention a new game of Bayonetta, which has become a semi-Nintendo IP at this point, and we're also getting a game starring Peach.
The only big ones that are missing is a new Metroid Prime, and especially something new from DK. a new DKC or 3D DK.
The fact that SEGA showed off a story trailer for the DLC first tells me once more that this game really only gets so much praise by the fanbase because the story and characters are well written. Well, well written for Sonic standards. A lot of modern games are more story than game. I sometimes ask myself why some games such as Sonic, Uncharted, Life is Strange, or The Last of Us are not films from begin with.
@Dimasaurus There is a difference in creating a new black character (such as Elena from Street Fighter, or Nessa from Pokémon), and race swapping an already existing character (like they did here with Annette).
It was very unnecessary to race bend Annette. But, they also did this with Issac before, so, I think most folks wouldn't mind the change... But still, if they really need more black / African-American representation, they could just create new characters.
The film was kinda “meh”, very “current year” with with the character designs (looking at you, new April O'Neil), and with all the social media, etc. Maybe the game will be better.
He praises a lot of Nintendo's games and ideas, but sadly, the only thing we mostly see coming from XBOX are just the same shooters. Man, I wish they could take some inspirations from Mario and apply them to a new Banjo-Kazooie or Conker game.
Weird that it took them so long to finally make her playable. Nintendo has a lot of popular characters, but they rarely use them. It is not only Daisy.
Mario. This is really no competition. I mean, Sonic really has no good track record when it comes to the quality of his games. What was the last good game, that wasn't a rehash of Sonic's glory days? Probably Sonic Colours for the Wii.
Sad to hear, that this game isn't as good as the old ones. Looks like that SEGA now has more of a reason to just pump out more Sonic games and let their old IPs rot in theri dungeon.
Everything that isn't Sonic would be a nice announcement. SEGA has so many great and creative series, Jet Set Radio, Skies of Arcadia, Billy Hatcher, etc., but all the fans care about is just a blue hedgehog starring in the most overrated video game series of all time.
A 7 out of 10 is still good. But I kinda wish SEGA would have made a new Jet Set Radio instead, so that Cyberfunk doesn't come off as a cheap rip-off. But, I guess, you have to be extreme lucky to get a new game at SEGA if you are not Sonic the Hedgehog. At least, Samba de Amigo gets a new entry.
Pokémon has much potential, but, if every fan just buys and consumes everything without questioning the quality then it is no surprise to me, that the games are that bugy and terrible.
This has to be the most overrated Sonic game ever. I get why the Adventure games are so popular, but this game is really only praised for the story, which is something only hardcore Sonic fans can appreciate.
The designs of these humans just do not blend in well with the ones of the Pokémon. This looks like a Tumblr/CalArts fan artist wanted to see their own OCs in a Pokémon show. Seriously, can no one really design good human characters any more? Do all modern humans characters have look like they came either out of Steven Universe or She-Ra and the Princesses of Power?
I'm getting sick of these Tumblr/CalArts inspired characters in recent comics, TV shows, films, and video games. Hope these trend dies out as soon as possible.

I will always recognize Zelda's beautiful feet.

Wow! They did not replace the unique Toads with generic ones, as they did in the two Mario & Luigi RPG remakes.

Europe, hands down.

In that case, give us a new Banjo-Kazooie and Diddy Kong Racing game. And throw in Conker as well.
