Re: Sonic X Transformers Collab Officially Teased, Photos Leaked Online

@Not_Soos
The 80s were a simpler time, an era when you could unapologetically enjoy the things you loved. Unlike today, where every preference seems to require justification, and anything can be labeled politically incorrect. In modern times, a single misstep—something that doesn’t align with someone else’s agenda—can lead to instant cancellation. That’s why I’m drawn to the 80s. Sure, they were corny, but I’ll take that over the bitter, judgmental, cynical, and nihilistic tone of so many cartoons today.

Re: Super Nintendo World's Donkey Kong Country Park Gets Opening Date

In the shop, I also mainly saw articles about DK and Diddy. This is probably because DK is Nintendo's own character, and Diddy, even though he was invented by Rare, was originally intended as a redesign of DK Jr. and is also considered a Nintendo character. Dixie, the other Kongs, the Animal Buddies and K. Rool, on the other hand, do not get their own merchandise. They should have chosen the Zelda series instead, as they could make a lot more products from The Legend of Zelda instead of being limited to just two characters like with DK.

Re: Nintendo To Go In 'Different Direction' To Current AI Trends, Says Miyamoto

RareFan

I'm split when it comes to the current AI trend. On the one hand, AI enables faster and easier content production, which is crucial in today's world where everything is consumed quickly. Consumers demand new content at an ever faster rate, and producers have to deliver accordingly quickly. In addition, small artists and developers can use AI to implement their own indie projects without having to incur high costs.

On the other hand, AI also carries the risk of eliminating many jobs, as large corporations could use it to cut costs, which could lead to further inequalities.

Re: Crash Team Rumble Was Reportedly In Development For Switch But Got Cancelled

RareFan

To be honest, I'm a bit happy and relieved that the Crash Bandicoot series is not being continued. The last few titles have shown me that the old retro charm of the series can no longer be maintained if you want to keep up with modern tastes and sensibilities. This was particularly clear to me with some of the new characters that Toys for Bob introduced for Crash Bandicoot. For example, the alternate, progressive version of Tawna, who is now portrayed as a strong, independent woman who doesn't need a man in her life. Or the new character Catbat, who defines himself mainly by his non-binary identity. Add to that the planned idea of reinterpreting many male characters as female versions. In addition to the female version of Dr. N. Tropy in Crash Bandicoot 4: It's About Time, female versions of the Komodo Brothers were also planned. In addition, Crash Bandicoot 5 was supposed to be more serious and darker, with a lot of "lore" in the background.

Honestly, this kind of storytelling might fit well with series like Sonic the Hedgehog or Sly Cooper, which started telling more serious stories early on. But Crash Bandicoot was always a fun, simple cartoon game without much depth. Not everything has to be as complex as Rick & Morty or Into the Spiderverse. Unfortunately, many people don't realize that even a simple cartoon has its own charm. Maybe it really is better if Crash retires with Spyro and chats about the good old days in the retirement home with other retired video game characters like Conker and Banjo-Kazooie. I don't know how you feel about it, but I don't really need that.

Re: Sega's Gamescom 2024 Line Up Includes 'Global Premier' Of Unannounced Project

RareFan

I sincerely hope it's not another Sonic game. I know SEGA has to release at least one new Sonic adventure every year - in the past it was even more: one main title and one or two smaller spin-offs, mostly for handhelds. But SEGA has so many other outstanding and creative properties that are far more exciting. I would be much more interested in a remake of Skies of Arcadia or Billy Hatcher.

Re: Donkey Kong Country Returns HD Swings Onto Switch Next Year

RareFan

This was definitely the worst announcement of today. The same game is being re-released for the third time. And Nintendo isn't even bringing new content. Compare that to Sonic X Shadow Generation, where we get a new campaign with Shadow, which brings new levels, bosses, enemies and maybe even a story. Here you don't even have new playable Kongs, or a King K. Rool campaign, or new animal buddies, worlds, etc.

Re: Nintendo Direct June 2024: Time, Where To Watch, What To Expect

RareFan

About time! I'm hoping for at least one new surprise: New Mario & Luigi, new Donkey Kong Country, remake of Donkey Kong 64, remake of Diddy Kong Racing, remake of The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages and Seasons, ARMS 2, first trailer for Metroid Prime 4, Banjo Redooie, new Kid Icarus, new F-Zero or remake of the Gamecube title, an open-world Pokémon game that's worth something, new Star Fox, or a completely new IP.

Re: Sonic X Shadow Generations Speeds Onto Switch This October

RareFan

SEGA announced this game in January and we still get more news about it than about the other Sega games. But unfortunately it has always been like this with SEGA's costumers: they would rather buy 100 of bad Sonic games instead of supporting a good Sega game just because they have ths hots for Sonic and Shadow.

Re: Sonic X Shadow Generations Speeds Onto Switch This October

RareFan

You know. SEGA announced several months, if not years ago, that we would be getting a return of their old franchises: Jet Set Radio, Crazy Taxi, Golden Axe and many more. So I'm wondering where the hell are these games? Instead we're just getting more (broken and unfinished) Sonic games. I really don't know what fans see in this franchise. SEGA's other IPs are so much better.

Re: 'Yooka-Replaylee' Brings Back Playtonic's Love Letter To Banjo In Remastered Form

RareFan

For years, Banjo-Kazooie fans have been clamoring for a sequel, or at least a remake of the first two games. However, because Microsoft thinks their entire lineup should consist of the same shooters, former Rare employees have created a spiritual successor in the form of Yooka-Laylee. I'm honestly glad this series isn't dead. Unfortunately, Banjo-Kazooie will never get a new game as long as Rare and Microsoft have something to say, so Yookya-Laylee is the next best thing for me. Unfortunately, Playtonic's first attempt wasn't necessarily the best. This game really needs more than just polished graphics. But if they can make the worlds smaller, but with more NPCs and better, more fun missions to collect the collectibles, Yooka-Laylee could really be a good 3D collect-a-thon platformer.

Re: Sonic And Co. Roll Into 'Super Monkey Ball Banana Rumble' With The 'SEGA Pass' DLC

RareFan

@Maubari
Sonic remains popular largely because his fans purchase anything with his image, regardless of quality. Even the notoriously flawed Sonic 06 found success. IGN was spot on when they claimed Sonic was never good; it was never truly about the gameplay, but rather about the character. Without his (arguably) appealing design, the franchise might have faded away with the SEGA Mega Drive. While Banjo and Rayman may not have reached Sonic's level of success, they are beloved for the quality of their games, unlike Sonic, who thrives on superficial appeal.

Re: Soapbox: Nintendo Needs More Characters Like Paper Mario's Vivian

RareFan

Vivian serves as an excellent example of how to introduce a transgender character into an established franchise. Firstly, the game doesn't make a big fuss about her being transgender, allowing her character to integrate naturally into the story. Secondly, the creators don't use her to boast about their progressiveness online. In contrast, Toys for Bob made a significant show of their new progressive characters, like Tawna and the non-binary CatBat, who seem to exist primarily for political reasons. Unlike these characters, Vivian feels like an organic part of the universe.

Re: 'Tales Of Kenzara: Zau' Director Addresses "Constant Targeted Harassment"

Sadly, even in 2024, many people continue to fear African culture and folktales due to persistent stereotypes. This is evident in the scarcity of positive portrayals of Africa in Western media. The few well-received media representations, such as Disney's The Lion King, DreamWorks' Madagascar 2, and Marvel's Black Panther, cannot truly be considered African-focused. The Lion King is more of a fable, Madagascar 2 is a light-hearted animal comedy, and Black Panther is a typical Marvel blockbuster. There is a pressing need for more authentic representations of Africa to show the world that it is far more than a jungle continent filled with stereotypical images.

Re: Sonic Adventure-Like 3D Action Platformer 'Spark The Electric Jester 3' Coming To Switch

RareFan

I'm aware that the Sonic the Hedgehog series is extremely popular. Unlike other game series known for their outstanding gameplay, Sonic's success always depends heavily on its characters. The personality and appealing design of Sonic and his friends are the cornerstones that have led to the success of the series. It's hard to imagine that any of these Sonic clones could ever be successful. Freedom Planet is perhaps the series that could most easily be considered a success, but even that series remains quite small and insignificant compared to the behemoth that is Sonic.

Re: Round Up: The Reviews Are In For The Knuckles Paramount+ TV Show

RareFan

Shows me once more that not every character is strong enough to carry their own spinoff. I mean, if a nobody character such as "Wade" (nothing against the actor) is more of a character than Knuckles, in a show called "Knuckles", than that shows me, that there is not much depth in the red echidna to even be the star of a small mini series.
