When I'm feeling pessimistic about the future, I often think of that line "but the future refused to change." Maybe from now when I think of it I'll remember this article.
Between the Virtual Console and NSO, there's no best option. NSO could lose licensing, you're constantly paying and many great games are missing. VC, without backward compatibility, is tied to the machine, and you might be paying for the same games over and over again with each new console.
Lot of people saying they have NSO for the retro games. You should try emulation. It's free. It's easy. The emulation is better and has more better implemented features. You can play every game at anytime and they won't disappear.
It's important to note that in 1996, Nintendo repurposed thousand of unsold Virtual Boys into EDIU (Employee Dream Incursion Units), pronounced "adieu." With competition from Sega and Sony heating up, Nintendo felt pressured to tap into their employees' subconscious for new ideas. Unfortunately, the effects of an EDIU lasted longer than employees were told and Miyamoto continued to rummage through their dreams long after they left the company. For years, when employees resigned, Miyamoto would say farewell with an ominous "I bid you adieu." The Japanese government banned the device in 2004 when a nightmare escaped and terrorized 3 people at a noodle stand in Kyoto.
I've never played a Tales game but based off the description in this article I voted for Phantasia but Eternia sounds interesting too. I literally don't know.
Good for them. I'll probably get it when the DQ I-II remakes come out. At this point, I'd be happy if Square Enix did nothing but remake their back catalog.
This makes me happy. I remember hearing how discouraged the dev was over Phoenotopia's sales and I thought we'd never see another game from them again. I loved Phoenotopia. It's one of those games that stays with you. Star Iliad looks look gorgeous in the same artstyle. I'm looking forward to it. Hope it comes out on Switch 2!
In terms of carting and power-ups etc., MK 8 is basically the best MK will get imo. There's only so much you can change and refine the concept. I guess more courses and variety of courses would be an improvement.
I was looking forward to Earthblade, but I wouldn't want to play an indie game the devs weren't happy making. For one, the game probably wouldn't be very good but also it wouldn't sit right.
I've never played Suikoden. Is it about overthrowing an oppressive oligarchy? Stopping an ancient evil, we foolishly believed was stopped generations ago, from returning?
They need to curb their obsession with cutting edge graphics and spectacle, lower their expectations for a smash hit, get down to basics and make a fun game.
Compared to last week: Switch OLED and OG are slightly down, Switch Lite is way up, PS5 got a decent bump as did the the Digital Edition. XBox Series X - Digital (surprisingly?) doubled sales from the week before.
Also, people talking about Christmas as a sales driven here. I lived in Japan for 5 years and I don't remember Christmas being a gift giving holiday. Certainly not like the massive, soul-defiling consumerism of North America. Sometimes people ate cake. That was about it Maybe things have changed and some of you know better than I.
Pentiment came out in 2022, and although I played it in 2024 I hadn't realized it was a 2024 Switch game. OK then, I'll add to my best games of 2024 list.
Also might check out Lorelei and the Laser Eyes. Thanks for the recommendation.
I played mostly old indie games this year. Cosmic Star Heroine, Citizen Sleeper, etc. And a lot of the FF pixel remasters. I only played one game that came out this year: Moonstone Island.
I look forward to playing this year's best indies in 2028
I think they'll announce it on Dec 24. People will be buying their kids Switches for Christmas and Nintendo will be like haha suckers it's already obsolete, now drive to the mall on Christmas Eve and bludgeon another shopper with a waffle iron for the last Switch 2 in stock. Miyamoto wants blood and blood he shall receive.
Interesting that the PS5 had such a huge jump because of a sale. So quite a lot of people want a PS5 but they went years without buying one because the price was too high.
Make little money on an overpriced console selling less or make more money selling more at a cheaper price. Congratulations, you just passed my MBA course.

But there is a secret third option.

Re: Poll: Is It Finally Time For Castlevania To Rise Again?
I think indie developers have done more with the genre than Konami, in its current state, will ever be able to do again.
This is interesting nonetheless. I think they should try something different. Something like Hades or Curse of the Dead Gods.
or a dating sim.
