Re: Nintendo May Record Video And Audio From GameChat Sessions On Switch 2

@BynoShadow What shame. Someone using an anti-racist position to justify corporate surveillance.

You don't need a reason to value your privacy. You can simply not want to share private information with anyone. Why don't I want Nintendo to record my image and conversations? Because I don't want to. That's all anyone ever needs to know. It's none of anyone's business. Period.

That's all you need to know, but if you want another reason, some governments, for example, the United States of America and other totalitarians, target people for their speech and identity. Some governments, for example, the United States of America, disappear people they don't like without due process and send them concentration camps.

Re: Mailbox: Switch 2 Price Drops, Remake Replacements, Pokémon Acquisitions - Nintendo Life Letters

Pricing based on value is a tricky proposition as people have a difference concept of value. I'm not sure if Nintendo actually means this or if it's just what they're saying to justify price increases, but it does invite people (me anyway) to consider what is value for my money.

TOTK cost more than BOTW, but I got better value out of BOTW. I bought my Switch in order to play BOTW, so the value of that game to me was $400-$500. Obviously, it had the added benefit of gaining the console I could use to play more games. If BOTW was $500 alone, I probably wouldn't have bought it, but still. NSMBU Deluxe and MK8 were both full priced games ($60). MK8 was worth it, but NSMBU Deluxe was not. Of course, this was before the "pricing based on value" regime was formally introduced.

For me, there aren't any games worth playing on the Switch 2 yet so it's not worth the price. And since prices are higher, and I've been burned before, I might be more cautious about buying a console and future higher priced games.

It's as simple as that. People are trying to ascribe a moralistic approach to this, but Nintendo has literally said value = price. They're asking us to consider the value and it looks to be coming up short to me.

Re: Talking Point: How Does Switch 2's Launch Price Compare To Past Nintendo Systems?

Purgatorium

Although this contextualizes things to some extent, it does leave out a lot of other context, as many have pointed out. There are lies, damned lies and statistics. And unfortunately, people will use this to shut down complaints about the Switch 2 price.

But the real point is that, while interesting, none of this matters. How much can we afford today in 2025 with wages, employment and inflation in food, housing, gas etc?

Re: Opinion: The Switch 2 Is A Powerhouse For The Price

I think the Switch 1 was a good value for the price. I could play Nintendo games but was severely limited in quality third party games. It was a compromise I was willing to make because I like MK and Zelda.

The Switch 2, however is more expensive, as are the games. It will be able to play better third party games, but do I care? Can I get a PC or another console to play those games for a similar price? The trade off is I couldn't play Nintendo games, which to be honest is becoming less attractive year by year.

Re: Opinion: A Few Too Many Questions & Unwelcome Surprises Are Taking The Shine Off The Switch 2 Reveal

Purgatorium

I think some of the arguments in favour of the price hike are reasonable. Yes, there's been inflation. There's the rising cost of making games. Nintendo is a corporation, not your friend. They want to make money.

This is reasonable. It's also reasonable to say that I'm not going to buy it. I'm a little bitter and disappointed, but I'm not buying it because I'm against the concept of raising prices. I'm not buying it because I don't want to pay that much.

Re: Poll: So, How Would You Rate The Nintendo Switch 2 Direct?

Purgatorium

Mario Kart World looks good. Otherwise, not a single game or feature that seems at all interesting to me plus everything is overpriced. You even have to pay for them to tell you how to use it. FFS.

What a scam.

A good Zelda game is about the only thing that would get me to buy it, honestly. I play mostly indie and retro games so I'll stick to PC. See you all in a few years, lol.
