Re: Opinion: We Really Don't Need A Donkey Kong Timeline

Oldstalk

People think timelines are important for Donkey Kong and Zelda when those franchises were invented by Miyamato, the infamously anti-story guy at Nintendo that completely made up story stuff on the spot when asked about it

Not everything needs to be a shared cinematic universe, and in this case, a shared gaming universe

Re: Nintendo Won't Let Charity Speedrunning Event Use Its Games Without Permission, Because Of Course

Oldstalk

It's really a nothing burger. They will just ask for proper permission next time and that's it.

Nintendo do not want to get their IPs involved with anything bad looking. You know, stuffs like Darth Vador saying racial slurs and stuff... And I fully understand them. Their IPs are the most important aspect of their business. Getting a few articles pointing how strict they are with it is completely inconsequential to them.

Re: Nintendo Direct Partner Showcase Announced For Tomorrow, 31st July 2025

Oldstalk

YES !!

Well considering everything Nintendo dropped those past two days, I was half-expecting a partner showcase. And I'm really excited for it as we need more infos on third party games for Switch 2.

I want to see Persona 3 and Metaphor Refantazio on Switch 2, that would be really sweet. And if Sony is really bringing some games, Gravity rush 1 and 2 would be a great start !

Re: Sony Job Listing Suggests More PS5 Games Could Get A Nintendo Release

Oldstalk

The only things I would be interested in :
Bloodborne, Gravity rush 1 and 2, Ico, SOTC, TLG, Astrobot, Ape escape games, the old ratchet and clank games in some remastered form (not the new ones that are meh)

So 99% chance we wont getting these, as Sony does not even care about it on its own plateform, and these geniuses axed the studio behind most of these masterpiece !

Re: Best Donkey Kong Games Of All Time

Oldstalk

Bananza is indeed the best game in the series. I don't know how it can be up to debate at this point. And no, it's a little bit more than "punching the ground". The game litteraly give you every clue in its level design so you never have to dig randomly.

Re: Poll: What Review Score Would You Give Donkey Kong Bananza?

Oldstalk

No idea how can anyone give this game anything lower than 9. It's honestly the best 3D plateformer I ever played.

This game was done dirty by reviewers. And for what reason ? Framerate drops ? I experienced 2 noticables ones in 20 hours, outside of this boss battle where, yes, occasionnaly it drops pretty significantly. Most games would dream to have such a steady framerate. And such a bug free experience. And yet, here we are...

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (19th July)

Oldstalk

DK Bananza !! This game is so fun, I played it for 6 hours or so, played it a little bit more than 1 hour in the train coming back from work, litteraly did not see time pass
And I heard things get better and better, especially toward the end, so I'm sooooo excited !!

Might play a little bit of splatoon 3 too, because this game ROCKS !!

Re: Uh-Oh! It Looks Like Donkey Kong Bananza Is Already Out In The Wild

Oldstalk

"Some replies to this post also raised some concerns about the type of game card included, and the user responded, stating it's not a "game-key card" but an "actual" game card."

It's not like Nintendo has included this ugly wall of text on every box when it's a game key card, with a big "game key card" visible 😑

Re: DK Bananza Devs "Needed To Know More About Donkey Kong," So They Went To Miyamoto

Oldstalk

@The_Nintend_Pedant Well I understand the opposite, it's their experiment on voxel technology that made them integrate DK into the mix, because he was a good fit for gameplay centered around destroying stuff, but maybe I understand it wrong

However, this is really a common approach Nintendo has with its games. They tend to think of new gameplay ideas first, and then apply whatever character they see fit

Re: DK Bananza Devs "Needed To Know More About Donkey Kong," So They Went To Miyamoto

Oldstalk

Nintendo has a lot of bad aspects, but I really appreciate how they always start from a gameplay idea, and then try to make a character and setting fit this idea, not the other way around.

That's how splatoon was created too. They started with the gameplay and at first, it was a Mario game, but eventually they decided it would be better to create a brand new IP around the concept.

Re: Nintendo Highlights Multiple Switch 2 And Switch Games Launching In July 2025

Oldstalk

@Cakefish Hard agree. It has been the stupidest decision ever to not give every major third party developper and indie dev kits months in advance. And for what ? It's not like Nintendo is releasing games every two weeks and wants to highligh them. Outside of DK, what are they releasing soon ? If they released Metroid Prime 4 next month, it would make more sense but nope.

Seriously. The people that thought it would be a great idea to do multiple waves or whatever should be fired ASAP. When this multiple waves release thing leaked, I thought it was so stupid it could not possibly be true. Turns out I was wrong. Nintendo also made the Wii U after all. They are well capable of stupid decisions.

Re: Talking Point: One Month On, How Did Nintendo's Switch 2 Launch Go?

Oldstalk

The console itself is great, the absolute total lack of communication of Nintendo or any other third party to announce games or NS2 editions si unbelievable. We are playing on things announced 3 months ago, with nothing in sight after that. The fact Nintendo seems to think not do anything after the console launch is ok, mystifies me.

I mean, just look at Nintendo Life. You have litteraly nothing to talk about guys. Because nothing gets ever announced.

The console itself is great, but if no game takes advantage of it, what's the point ?

Nintendo NEEDS to announce a new Direct soon (and no, not in SEPTEMBER, gosh, if they do this they are basically killing their console). Or new ports and third parties plus details about their upcoming games. We need stuff for the next few months.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (5th July)

Splatoon 3 ! First step in the franchise, I thought I would like it but nothing more, but I love it !!

First steps were tough, but if you are like me, stick with it a little bit, try different weapons and I'm sure you are going to love it too ! I picked it up recently and I already something like 30 hours in.

Oh and also... TEAM SEA LET'S GO 🌊⛵️
