Re: Yoshi And The Mysterious Book's Switch 2 Box Art Is Suitably Adorable

Oldstalk

@kmtrain83 Well, I much prefer them over Switch 1 box cases which always seemed rushed to me with that ugly red square that does not really fit. And I'm pretty sure they were rushed, because Nintendo had to release their new console quickly after the Wii U disaster, so they did not really put that much thought into this design.

PS5 box cases are pretty ugly too, the head band is white, but they did not make an effort to make the actual box white too, it's just weird.

But yeah, everyone's taste is different

Don't agree with everything he said, don't really care either, but "utterly terrible" is not what I would use to describe him.
Nuance is a lost art it seems lmao

The Witness was a great game imo, but I never really liked Braid. Meh. Too bad they decided to re-release this one.

Oh, and if anyone is interested, the best video on YouTube I ever watched is called : "The Unbearable Now: An Interpretation of The Witness"

It is a great analysis of the game and why it's a masterpiece.

HK1 all the way, it's not even a question. It's a much better designed game than HK2. It's definitely NOT the same game design philosophy, contrary to what I saw in the comments. HK2 leans heavily on its Souls like aspect and fails to deliver a satisfying experience in the process because guess what, Team Cherry aint From Software. It's barely a metroidvania at this point, unless every 2D game where you acquire power-ups count as a metroidvania.

There are so many bad design elements in HK2 that it would take quite some time to speak of them all in details (in summary : questionable boss design, including waves and waves of random mobs, backtracking, extensive use of adds in boss fights, visual clutering, comically large HP pools... no sense of reward for most boss, grim and dark atmosphere 24/7 where no sense of magic or wonder is allowed, questionable difficulty at times, map linearity, uncancelable heal unless you want to lose your silk, shard mechanic, quest design, no sense of progression early game, as it requires 2 additional HP to get another free hit, and those masks are suuuuper rare early on... and something minor but : it was a bad decision to not let NPC characters do all the talking, I don't care about Hornet)

HK1 was extremely classic in its design, but it was a good game that respected its player time. It delivered some true magical moments, full of wonder, something not seen in HK2

Frankly the best OST across the entire Switch library. Also, Origami King is in my personal top 5 Switch games, alongside BOTW, Pikmin 4, Odyssey and Three Houses. Such an incredible game, and one I was surprised to like more than TTYD, after playing the remake (it was the opposite prior to that).

I hope it's the sign of an upcoming Switch 2 edition !

Captain Toad : Treasure Tracker with GF through GameShare ! I love this game and how it uses GameShare. We don't have a TV at home so playing this game together is super easy and confortable, she uses our old Switch OLED and we each have a screen that follow our own Captain toad independantly. I wish more games made use of this feature like this.

Plus, the game is sooooo pretty on Switch 2, gully, it looks really good.

Re: Surprise! Hollow Knight - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition Launches Today

Oldstalk

@MoldyPasta It's not just the difficulty which is not well balanced. It's just not a well designed game in general, in terms of combat, boss encounters (I can count on one hand the good boss fights in this game : Phantom, Widow, Third Choral, Lace, mayyyyyybe Trobbio first fight), traversal mechanics, level design (3 poison swamps in a row, stupendous...), quest design (yeaaaay, 25 burned meat to bring to this guy, peak quest design)... plus the overall atmosphere is way less magical and interesting than HK1. The first game was somewhat generic in its game design, but at least it was really well executed.

Plus, I'm not commenting on a HK2 article to say it's bad, I'm commenting on a HK1 article to say this is the actual good game out of the two, because it's still a worthwile experience, and maybe people that strongly disliked the second game (like I did) could see that opinion and give this one a chance, especially with this new Switch 2 version.

Re: Poll: What Nintendo Switch 2 Games Are You Most Excited For In 2026?

Oldstalk

Fire Emblem : Fortune's Weave.

Three Houses is easily in my top 5 Switch games (alongside Origami King, Breath of the Wild, Pikmin 4 and Mario Odyssey), the fact it looks like a direct continuation of that game is enough to make it my most anticipated game this year. Plus, GODLIKE music seems back on the menu bois !

I can understand why most people are not that excited by what is already announced. I think it's shapping up to be a really solid year, but Nintendo maybe needs one big hitter to please everyone, a new 3D Mario for example. But if you like Fire Emblem, Splatoon and From Software, gully, it's looking good.

Re: Two Cancelled Virtual Boy Games Coming To NSO In 2026, Including F-Zero Spin-Off

Oldstalk

@EarthboundBenjy What is exactly the precedent set here ? Those game would still be dead and forgotten if they did not do this. If you bought them digitally, you could arguee it's the same problem because the second the servers shut down, you lose those games, and Nintendo is not gonna have a dedicated physical release for two Virtual Boy games. So them releasing those games on NSO is by far the best option, and the only viable one.

Re: Rumour: Switch Online GameCube Releases Might Have Been Leaked

Oldstalk

@Yoshi3 Okay, let's put that out of the way once and for all : MP2 and MP3 remaster are never going to happen.

Retro did MP1 remaster in preparation of MP4, when they were not working on it. The original plan was to do all three of them but once they started working MP4, this project was put to rest. It's not happening.

Making good progress on Persona 3 Reload ! I think there's only a third of the game left, I like the game structure, it feels way less formulaic than Persona 4 and 5's, the game introduce new characters whenever it feels like it, pretty cool

I did not touch Chibi Robo recently but I almost finished it too !

No new games until Mario Tennis Fever for me.
