Re: Zelda Master Sword Replica Joins Tamashii Nation's 'Proplica' Line In 2024

Nua

@epicgamner "Breaking News, a child has died after being stabbed by a Nintendo licensed sword. Story is still developing, but according to first responders, two children were playing when things took a turn for the worst."

Nintendo is never going to officially license a real Master Sword, and in the mystical fantasy land where they do, it would be duller than a baseball bat.

Re: Video: This Controller Has A Screen, But Don't Expect A Wii U GamePad

Nua

@Serpenterror I was thinking the same thing.

I believe some of the controllers shipped out for the All Controller though, but I could be wrong, seeing as it has been ages since that fiasco and the few YouTube videos there were about it were taken down because of the backlash. If some controllers did start to be sent out, it was a very small number.

Re: Nintendo Of America Restructuring Testing Department, Over 100 Contractor Jobs Reportedly Eliminated

Nua

@GarlicGuzzler You're confusing the term quality tester in this instance. The contracts that Nintendo chose not to renew, and the employees that Nintendo are converting to full time employees likely weren't reviewing games coming into the eShop for anything close to the Nintendo Seal of Quality, either the original definition that it won't crash or damage the hardware, or the perceived definition that it is a enjoyable quality game.

These employees were likely doing bug testing and the like for Nintendo's first and second party games, and not the mass flood of eShop titles.

Re: Random: It's Done! Every Super Mario Maker Level Has Been Cleared Before Wii U's Online Shutdown

Nua

@mlt Perfect example of doable, but insanely hard!

There has been footage of Daigo doing it again, ironically enough also against Justin Wong again, and even he failed the first few attempts. And that sequence was added into a rerelease version of the game at some point as a challenge, I've watched a few YouTubers struggle to pull it off until finally clearing it.

It's possible, it just requires perfection.

Re: Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2 Game Line Up Hasn't Been Decided "Yet"

Nua

@iaLgan The PSN version of MGS4 was about 25-30GB, can't find the articles about the game finally being available to purchase digitally because of Master Collection Vol 2 speculation filling the search results.

The extra 20-25GB data was for installing from the disc to the hard drive, as well as duplicated data to load faster iirc.

MGSV (GZ + TPP) is about 35GB. UHD discs are most commonly used for 4K movies, are supported on the PS5 and I believe the Series X, and hold up to 100GB.

Seeing as this is Konami, neither game will be put on a 32GB Cart, or 64 if Nintendo ever made those available.

Re: Best Super Smash Bros. Games Of All Time

Nua

@batmanbud2 Hello, my post was made almost a year ago, thanks for the update as I haven't thought about this in almost a year.

It's interesting to see Melee at 9.1, and Ultimate at 9.2 from 9.11 and 9.16 respectively. The gap between the games seemingly widened instead of shortening. If it was the inverse, Melee gaining 4 points and Ultimate losing 1, that would have tied them.

However, looking at all of the scores now being at 1 decimal place instead of 2, it seems that NL has stopped showing the score to 2 decimal places, but likely still keeps track internally, since Brawl and 64 swapped their positions with an identical average score of 8.6. Or maybe it is done by alphabetical sorting at that point, but that seems rather unlikely for a best of where a theoretically titled Smash Bros A would place higher than a Smash Bros B.

Also, I never once made a claim as to which game was better, Melee or Ultimate. I was looking at this from a pure mathematical average basis, pointing out how close the ratings actually were, and how the ranking could change.

Re: The Pokémon Company Outlines Fixes For Scarlet & Violet's Next Update

Nua

@Anti-Matter Nexomon doesn't have the global merchandising and anime to complete with Pokemon. At best, it would be considered like Yokai Watch, another Pokemon-like game in the minds of consumers. At worst, considering both have mon in their name, consumers will think of it as another Pokemon knock off.

Another reason Nexomon won't overtake Pokemon is that it lacks that IP recognition with parents. They grab Mario, Sonic, Pokemon, Minecraft, etc off the shelves around the year. Sonic routinely sells the best on Nintendo systems because of parents buying for their kids.

Re: Sonic Frontiers Latest Update Is Now Live, Here Are The Full Patch Notes

Nua

@RainbowGazelle A possible reason why they struggled is that Sega didn't send review copies for Switch, and the speed at which the review was uploaded. Assuming they didn't get a copy that broke street date, the game released on November 8th, and a review was posted on November 10th. I seem to recall an article being posted saying that they were going to take the time to review the game properly anyway, but then the review is still posted 2 days later? I'm not the reviewer, I can't speak for them, but if I recall correctly, their published word/posted in the comment section was that they did not rush playing the game just to get the review out.

Re: Video: Digital Foundry's Technical Analysis Of Sonic Superstars

Nua

@RubyCarbuncle Putting the answer to that Chaos Emerald in Spoiler Bars below. Honestly, do not feel bad about struggling on that Emerald, I struggled with it too, and in my opinion, 5 is the most difficult Chaos Emerald in the game. 6 and 7 are similar to the first 4. The game barely teaches you how to get that one from the previous 4 emeralds, and just feels like an intentionally obscure difficulty spike, almost like they wanted a way to stop players from getting all 7 Chaos Emeralds.

Don't chase the Emerald, make sure you get rings at the start, then try to predict where it will be and try to cut it off instead. They want you to run into it headfirst or one of the sides, as you will never be able to catch up to it while chasing it. The emerald just goes in a circle, so try to cut it off at a 180 or 270 degree angle by predicting where it will go to.

@smoreon I think your monitor isn't set to a refresh rate of 60hz, because all three bouncing at different speeds. If they are all in sync at 24, then maybe you have it at 24hz?

I mainly posted it because of people who would say there is no difference between 24, 30, and 60fps but I wasn't expecting your reply, especially after you made the comment about Sonic and 60fps in your second post. It could just be the gif I picked though, I didn't spend a lot of time looking for gif, just one that showed some difference between 24, 30, and 60. Alternatively, the gif I picked could just not run at 60fps at all, I would not be surprised if it wasn't actually in 60 and if everything was halved... now that I'm really thinking/typing about it, can a gif even go up to 60fps? I'm not sure!

Re: Super Mario RPG Switch Leaked Online Ahead Of Next Week's Release

Nua

@Groovz A retailer broke street date somewhere, and someone with a modified Switch was able to acquire that cartridge, probably from buying it, or an employee sneaking a copy home early. From there, they export the game from the cartridge to their SD card using homebrewed tools. This isn't new, it just gets more coverage nowadays than it used to.

@Jimsbo A modded Switch would have more file transfer capabilities, including the ability to install files from an SD Card to the Switch.

@MatoFilipovic Sakurai's comment was from the Brawl days. Specifically, he didn't like how many watched these cutscenes without playing to those moments and experiencing them in game for the first time, that YouTube became the medium they were experienced through instead.

Re: SanDisk Launches Mighty 1.5TB Micro SD Card Compatible With Nintendo Switch

Nua

@JalapenoSpiceLife Likely physical limitations right now are the reason why they didn't just jump to 2TB. This release again breaks the usual cycle of 1, 2, 4, 8, 16, 32, 64, 128, 256, 512, 1024, etc as the 400GB Micro SD Card did when it came out. If you're curious how that worked, this 2017 article does a decent job explaining it, but it comes down to physical limitations at the moment. https://www.maketecheasier.com/micro-sd-card-400gb-storage-capacity/

Re: Surprise! The 3DS Is Getting A Brand New Physical Release Next Week

Nua

@JohnnyMind @Clark2k So, clarifying on both fronts. There are some games, like Pokemon Black, that are DSi Enhanced Cartridges, that are region locked. Looked back into it quickly just to make sure I have it right, and apparently a Japanese copy of Pokemon Black would work in an American or European DS Lite, but it would not work in an American or European DSi, because of the enhanced features. So the region lock is dependent on which system you are using, as well as the cartridge. All and all confusing,

Moving on to the next point, the DSi had 1,000 Blocks internally to store games DSiWare Games, and the 3DS had 1,024 Blocks to store DSiWare games. You could copy the games to the SD card at any time, and the save data would be preserved with it. The games could not be played from the SD Card though, so you would have to do a little song and dance of uninstalling and reinstalling after saving back to the SD Card. It actually can be a challenge to delete save data from DSi games if they lack the option to delete the save data in the settings. These are completely separate things from DSi Enhanced Cartridges.

Re: Sonic Origins Plus Update Goes Live On Switch, Here's What's Included

Nua

@Vash0125 It's alright, not everyone grew up with Sonic 3 and Sonic & Knuckles on their Genesis/Mega Drive. The Sonic & Knuckles cartridge has a cartridge port on the top, which allowed for the two games to connect. You could also combine with Sonic 2 for Knuckles in Sonic 2, or Sonic 1 for Blue Spheres. Almost any other Genesis game also gave a Blue Spheres level.

Sonic & Knuckles is the second half of Sonic 3, originally split for file size problems with Sonic 3 estimated to be larger than the cartridge size they were allotted, as well as a McDonalds Happy Meal Promotional period Sega couldn't miss. Sonic 3 is the first half, which is a bit different in Sonic 3 & Knuckles, but not in any major way. Sonic & Knuckles though is the same regardless of cartridge, you'd just lack the Super Emeralds, and the ability to play as Tails. As a kid, I'd boot up just Sonic & Knuckles sometime to play Flying Battery Zone, but with the stage select codes, you can easily do that in Sonic 3 & Knuckles too.

Re: Sonic Origins Plus Update Goes Live On Switch, Here's What's Included

Nua

@Vash0125 Sega commissioned Stealth, one of the developers from Sonic Mania, to port Sonic 3 into the Retro Engine. Taxman/Christian Whitehead created the Retro Engine and used it to make the 2011 port of Sonic CD to mobile, and is the same general port used in Sonic Origins. Taxman and Stealth would go onto remake Sonic 1 and 2 in the Retro Engine in 2013.

Stealth has said that Sega did not give him and his team a realistic deadline for completing Sonic 3 & Knuckles for Origins, but they accepted the job anyway, seeing as Sega previously denied them the chance to complete the trilogy almost a decade prior. If they are going to add Sonic & Knuckles as a title, then they also need to add Sonic 3 as a standalone game, which features different level layouts and item box placements, as well as recreating the title screen for Sonic & Knuckles. All of this is work that Stealth and his team likely would have done if there was enough time, but there was not. And if we are expecting Sega to put in that extra work now, it is jut never going to be done.

Re: PSA: Don't Forget The Meaty Downloads Required For Metal Gear Solid's Physical Edition

Nua

@Serpenterror I'm a bit confused at your comment.

Metal Gear 1 was originally made for the MSX2, which is included in this collection. It was later ported to the NES/Famicom, which is also included in the collection. Snake's Revenge was later made by a different team at Konami for the NES, with the game never getting a Japanese release until the Master Collection. A staff member working on Snake's Revenge talked to Kojima one day and told him that they were making a sequel to Metal Gear, but that he'd rather play a sequel made the the series creator. This comment eventually led to Kojima making a Metal Gear sequel on the MSX2, Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake.

While it is true that a large amount of Metal Gear Solid 1 is inspired or directly taken from MG2 Solid Snake, I am not sure how you have enough games to call that the original trilogy, unless you're referring to Metal Gear, Metal Gear 2, and Metal Gear Solid. The collection also does include the original MGS1, as well as the updated integral version, so if you are going by that definition of original trilogy, it is all here, outside of the updated sprites from the Subsistence versions of the MSX games where they tried a bit harder to avoid copyright infringement.

Re: PSA: Don't Forget The Meaty Downloads Required For Metal Gear Solid's Physical Edition

Nua

@PKDuckman You might actually be right. The first link I'm posting is the MGS Master Collection website in English, and the second and third ones are the Japanese Website, and then the website that has been run through Google Translate. The GB Numbers don't change, but I can't read Japanese so I wouldn't know what they were talking about, and would rather assume Google Translate is close enough instead of assuming the games are listed in the same order from the English page and whatnot.

The English copy of the Master Collection has 2.4GB loaded onto the cartridge. (scroll to almost the bottom)
https://www.konami.com/mg/mc/us/en/

The first link is just the regular website loading in Japanese, the second link is in English. Posting both for ease of access. The Japanese Switch cartridge has 5.6GB loaded onto the cartridge, and it explicitly mentions that a game is already on the cartridge in the MGS1 section so you don't have to download it, something the English page does not have an extra asterisk to note. It really seems like MGS1 is on the cart for the Japanese version.
https://www.konami.com/mg/mc/jp/ja/

https://www-konami-com.translate.goog/mg/mc/jp/ja/?_x_tr_sl=auto&_x_tr_tl=en&_x_tr_hl=en-US

@JimNorman Any chance NL could look into this or write an article/update, as while the news that the Master Collection doesn't contain MGS1-3 on cartridge has been going around since August, the Japanese version having MGS1 on cart would be an interesting change. Konami does note on their websites I linked above that the Japanese version has a bigger cartridge.

Re: PSA: Don't Forget The Meaty Downloads Required For Metal Gear Solid's Physical Edition

Nua

@rushiosan Not sure if you are aware, but Konami put out a statement before the game even released about how the Switch versions of MGS1-3 would run at most at 30FPS. Not sure if you were talking about playing the Switch version or not though. It's particularly sad for MGS2, as that game originally played at 60fps for gameplay, and cutscenes were at 30fps back on PS2. MGS3 on the other hand was always 30fps until the HD Collection.

Re: Metal Gear Solid's Launch Trailer Is Full Of Love And Hugs

Nua

@Vexx234 But MGS4 isn't here yet! You know, the game with two world records for longest cutscene, and longest uninterrupted scene in a cutscene. The game that has 30 minute cutscenes after the end of a chapter, and 30 minute cutscenes at the start of the next chapter (and at the end of that chapter too and so on and so forth)
