@SirLink "How is it that this kind of bugs have become so common?"
Development times on games have increased from months to a year during the NES and SNES era, to multiple years as the amount of work to make a game increases with each subsequent console generation.
So why don't the developers take extra time to make sure the game is perfect? They try to. Imagine proofreading a 5 page paper, you can reasonably catch everything. A 50 page paper? More difficult, you can probably catch everything. A 500 page paper? That is going to take a lot more time. It is entirely possible that the first party releases are more like 5,000 or 50,000 page paper. The longer it gets, the more difficult it is to proofread something.
So the answer is to give developers enough time to properly bugtest their games and give enough time to correct the code? Then you have the issue of publishers and shareholders wanting their money back now. The game has already cost $$$, and they are wanting a return on their money, so developers can't delay the game for extra polish. With the PS3 and 360 era, developers had reliable ways of updating the game without a new disc or cartridge revisions. Publishers and shareholders took this as you can ship the game sooner, so we can make our money back sooner.
It is not that all developers have lowered their standards. They often don't have a say in when the game is getting released, and are sometimes able to continue updating the games. Other times the dev teams are moved on to different projects and the game is left unpolished.
I was hoping for Mr. X from Streets of Rage, but I can see the logic here. Death Adder from the Arcade era, Eggman from the Mega Drive, and Yakuza for the modern day.
@SegaDude113 All great choices, I just think they'll be sticking to Genesis, and well known games. Nef from Altered Beast was the next one I was thinking of.
@Lowell I could be wrong, but I thought the 2nd and 3rd Star Force games were on DS, not 3DS. Did Japan get enhanced 3DS ports that were used for this collection?
This trick would also work on Sonic Unleashed, by setting the PS3's system resolution to 720p, the game would play better than trying to render everything at 1080p with the trademark Sonic speed.
@AlexOlney There seems to be some formatting error when reading the brief article preview from NintendoLife's home page, I checked this on two different browsers before posting. I can see this under the tagline before clicking into the article.
<video url=" start="04:31s" image="4"></video> Sometimes simplicity is key, and when such simplicity is available for a decent price ($36.99 on Amazon at the moment), that’s an even...
@LazyDaisy There have been articles written by those more knowledge than I am on the topic, but my understanding is that because of how Nintendo structured it as a limited time release in Japan, they cannot legally rerelease 3D All Stars without facing fines and lawsuits in Japan.
If they were to rerelease it as Super Mario 3D All Stars Plus or something with Mario Galaxy 2 and more additional content, then maybe, but Nintendo was aware of all of this before they set their arbitrary deadlines for Mario 35, 3D All Stars and Fire Emblem on the FC/NES.
@NatiaAdamo Nintendo was coming out with the NSO NES and SNES Controllers at the time, and more or less told 8BitDo to stop infringing on their official colors. There is a reason why we haven't seen those color schemes in years. Until the Pro 3 however, you could swap the buttons if you opened up your controller, replace them with whichever SNES/SF buttons you bought online because they kept the same button shape and pegs. I would be shocked if they didn't end up selling the SF buttons on their website considering these are magnetic.
@Debo626 The Ultimate 2 has almost if not all of the same features announced with the Pro 3, in the Nintendo/Xbox stick layout. Check that one out.
@RupeeClock The controller likely will connect to Windows with Bluetooth, but be in D-Input or Switch Input mode instead of X-Input. Steam natively supports 8BitDo controllers now though, so there will definitely be ways of using this on a Windows PC.
On the topic of MGS Master Collection Vol 1, it feels appropriate to mention how only 2 NES and 2 MSX2 games are on the game cart, outside of Japan that apparently has MGS1 on cartridge.
In order to play MGS1, 2, or 3 from a NA or EU cartridge, you'll have to download the respective games from the eShop, and then have the cartridge inserted to play completely digital games.
Mango's relationship with alcohol has been well known for a while now, in many ways it was a quintessential part of his brand for close to a decade. Hoping he can find a path to sobriety that works for him.
Considering how Paramount has done the first 3 Sonic movies, and owns Nickelodeon, this crossover makes a bit more sense than it originally seems, especially with 3 properties joining the DLC.
@sethfranum If the dockless system in Japan is true, please note that they have a Japanese and International version over there. The Yen is doing so poorly that Nintendo made essentially a region locked Switch 2 to keep the prices down, it would not have English. So if a dockless Switch 2 is being sold, and it is not something else, I would be shocked if that option included the international version.
I've got friends who swear by Fantasy Life being a secret gem on the 3DS. If you enjoyed the first one, then absolutely go for the sequel. Those same friends are having a great time right now.
@BrokenCiv There are so many different versions of the Ultimate and Ultimate 2 that I wouldn't be surprised if your Ultimate controller didn't have gyro. However, several Ultimate controllers do have Gyro, and considering how there was an Ultimate 2 that launched a while back with the L4 and R4 buttons but without the back paddles, I wouldn't be surprised if that was the Ultimate 2 you looked at.
@BrokenCiv The 8BitDo Ultimate 2 does have gyro, and surprisingly all of their major controllers have had gyro in Switch mode starting in 2018 with the SNES30 Pro.
@Ryu_Niiyama I've read the first issue. It's Clark, and you can tell it's Clark by how he talks/his mannerisms a few pages before the Last Son of Krypton backstory gets referenced.
I know Kanto again, again, was an option, but I really wish Lets Go Pikachu and Eevee were listed as specific options. Just would have liked the ultra ironic vote.
@Spider-Kev Maybe this was added after you read the article, but it is at the very bottom of the article:
"In speaking with Time Extension, Jordi Gutiérrez Hermoso said that although the cartridges have voltage regulators, "it has no logic level translation. This means that the parts on the board constantly draw power from signals that are not intended to provide power and will damage the cart and my NES. This cartridge is a tiny time bomb for my electronics."
@Yosher If you liked Riders, you should look into some of the modding projects, from the original Riders with more characters and refinements, to adding back in removed features from Zero Gravity, to making Free Riders playable without full body motion controls. The last 5 years have been a great time to be a Riders fan.
@Not_Soos You should play Sonic Adventure 2 if you enjoyed the 3rd Sonic Movie. It is the origin of Shadow after all and while the movie honored SA2, it took things in their own unique direction. As for Shadow's 2005 outing, things were definitely hammed up. Ironically, some of Shadow's best character moments come from his part in Sonic 06.
I was looking for a different Sonic article altogether, one on Roger Craig Smith when I came across this one. Really funny to look at the leak after watching the 3rd Sonic Movie.
@Mariotag Nintendo tends to spend the last two-ish weeks of the year rerunning old NSO icons, with a lot of platinum points being given so you can purchase almost anything you want. It is unlikely you'll get all three Nias, but you might get 1 or 2 since they don't redo the entire wave, just spend 2 days dedicated to a particular title across something like 14 days. This would be the third year they've done this, and Nintendo likes to toss aside patterns and precedents without much care.
Considering what Sonic 06 was supposed to originally have, 9 or 10 campaigns, (Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Shadow, Rouge, Omega, Amy Silver, Blaze, and Metal Sonic which could have just been a reskin of Sonic), if the game was given love and care like Project 06 has done, I could see a good version of the game existing level wise. Storywise... yeah, I'm not even sure Ian Flynn can salvage this one.
The game will absolutely sell more after the new Sonic movie comes out, and will sell more over the holiday season. Sonic games aren't as evergreen as Nintendo games, but still sell well.
If your screen is not getting very busy while playing Vampire Survivors, then you're not playing Vampire Survivors.
@OorWullie The game becomes more fun when you've unlocked more things, like with Hurry Mode with a faster clock and Hyper mode to spawn more enemies and move faster. Early game Vampire Survivors might as well be a completely different game.
@Liam_Doolan I apologize if I am completely wrong here, but did you mean to type "unstable frame fracing" or "unstable frame tracing" in the third paragraph?
I've never heard of fracing before and seeing how close the two keys were, I figured either I would learn something, or a small typo could be corrected.
@AlienX In my opinion, these redesigns are quite tame compared to the Michael Bay Turtles, or Rise of the Ninja Turtles. I was never a fan of the 2012 CGI Turtles look either, and while I don't love this one, it does help convey they are awkward teenagers.
I think I saw a Switch copy in stores for 30 bucks the other day, maybe 20 dollars. Sad thing is, the game looked amazing at launch, but with a tight budget I couldn't justify the purchase. Seeing those prices only proved I was right to wait for a sale, because Ubisoft discounts their games even faster than Capcom.
@RubyCarbuncle Ah, yeah that makes sense. It was one of the few that could come to mind after I pressed send. I've meant to read more closely into that one anyway, it's been a long day... week... month. It's been a busy time for me.
@RubyCarbuncle What are you referencing? I read gaming news daily so I probably know what you're talking about and it's just the combination of a long day and feeling tired, but currently I can't follow you.
