Re: Reminder: Catch All The Pokémon Games On 3DS & Wii U Before The Shut Down

Nua

@Pally356 Technically, yes you can, it just requires an awful lot of set up and a chance to erase your save file if you screw it up. The 8F Glitch has the power to rewrite the game code to anything your heart desires, including changing the Original Trainer Name and Trainer ID to GF, and 22796.

Personally, I'd recommend modding your 3DS first to back up the save file with a program like Checkpoint or JKSM, to where if you make a mistake, your save is, well, saved. However, if you are going through all of this trouble, and already have another 3DS, might I recommend this instead?

https://digiex.net/threads/pokemon-3ds-virtual-console-gf-mew-distribution-download-jpn-eng.16101/

Basically, the way GameFreak was able to distribute event Mews. If you have a second console, you could either mod that too, or install this onto your 3DS, then distribute the Mew.

Re: Best Deals And Cheapest Games In The 3DS & Wii U eShop Sales

Nua

@WoomyNNYes In June of 2019 Luigi's Mansion 1 on 3DS was discounted to 23.99 in the North American eShop. I had to go check my 3DS virtual receipts for the date because I know I wouldn't have bought the game digitally if it wasn't on sale.

As for Pilotwings Resort, I never saw a sale on the game, so I don't think you missed it. I recently got the cartridge used for 5.99 though, so I don't think I'll be missing out there.

Re: Best Super Smash Bros. Games Of All Time

Nua

@ModdedInkling On the topic of Melee, since you brought up versions, only PAL (Europe and Australia) received copies of 1.03. Japan (November 2001) and North America (December 2001) got copies of NTSC 1.00, 1.01, and 1.02, with 1.02 being the final copy printed and distributed in Japan and North America over the run of the GameCube's lifespan. Melee launched in Europe and Australia in May 2002, and until the last few years (struggling to find when the European Melee scene changed) they ran on PAL, 1.03, the only copy ever released to them, so of course they used it for Tournament Play.

Part of why the scene uses 1.02 is because of the availability. The majority of Melee's tournaments take place in North America, and it would be a nightmare for both players and tournament organizers to import copies of 1.03 compared to just using the mostly 1.02 discs they already have available. Some 1.00 and 1.01 discs are at tournaments because the community provides set ups, (TVs, Consoles, and Discs), but these were all made before May of 2002, since that is when PAL was released and 1.02 had to be put into the wild before that.

Europe chose to change to 1.02 partially because of international players, those who would travel to North America for events, and play on a different version of Melee. Then some players really just want to do the stuff Melee is famous for, like Falco Pillar Combos (Down Special Attack into Down Aerial Attack) and Marth's Ken Combo (Forward Aerial Attack into Down Aerial Attack).

For logistical reasons, it is impossible to make North America use 1.03 legitimately, and the standardization of Melee's version to 1.02 has been healthier for the competitive scene since videos now are clearly from one version instead of having to ask if it is NTSC or PAL.

If Melee was to be re-released on NSO or some sort of Virtual Console, we would get 1.02 for Japan and North America, and Europe would get 1.03. If Melee was ever to be remastered, Nintendo would 100% break out 1.03 as the base of the game, not 1.00, 1.01, or 1.02

Re: Best Super Smash Bros. Games Of All Time

Nua

As of the time of this post, the community score is

Smash 4 3DS at 8.44
Smash Bros (N64) at 8.66
Brawl (Tied with N64) at 8.66
Smash 4 Wii U at 8.75
Melee at 9.11
Ultimate at 9.16

These scores will change as community members add the games to their accounts and review them. With these differences, Melee could easily overtake Ultimate, Brawl can probably overtake Smash 4 Wii U.

I think something people are overlooking though is how close these scores are, that the games are all averaging 8s and 9s. It is literally coming down to decimal values instead of whole numbers.

Re: Random: Pokémon Scarlet & Violet Players Reach Outer Space By Making Sandwiches

Nua

@SpaceboyScreams Just because GameFreak had to meet a deadline doesn't mean the staff was happy with the state of the game. They clearly had an idea for what they wanted this game to be, but could not optimize or polish the experience before launch. I'm not trying to give them any excuses, but I think it's wrong to say no developer at Game Freak put thought into the game.

Re: Review: Metroid Fusion - An Infectious, Portable Pleasure

Nua

@Bret That was an assumption made by fans, Nintendo never said they would continue to add more DLC, but fans hoped for it ala adding games to Gamepass. Continuing to add DLC to NSO is not very Nintendo like, and I wouldn't expect another addition unless it was in a similar boat to Splatoon 2, a game where Nintendo is actively trying to sell you on the sequel's DLC instead.

Re: Reminder: Today Is Your Last Chance To Get Fire Emblem Fates On 3DS eShop

Nua

@NintendoByNature So, how they did this was, you buy the cartridge of Birthright or Conquest, or the digital download, and you get the entirety of the Birthright or Conquest game.

If players want to experience the other path, they can pay 20 dollars instead of 40 dollars for an entire new download/new cartridge, and add the other route to your game. Doing so gives you an additional 3 save files.

Revelation is Digital/Limited Edition Sold Out Scalper Preorder Special only, and is the path where Corrin doesn't choose either side. This is also 20 dollars.

At Chapter 6, you always make the choice for what path you go down. That is the deciding point from what you could call a prologue. You don't need to buy anything else to experience the game you already own, but you could buy two more games/story paths.

Re: Countdown: 3DS eShop Spotlight - Fire Emblem Fates

Nua

@Guile Both Fates and Echoes (as well as Awakening) have 50+ dollars of DLC, per game. So, your milage may vary depending on what content you want from each game. With Fates, you already have the 3 story paths, the rest is additional content and scenarios, all optional, but helpful with rewards and classes.

Re: Countdown: 3DS eShop Spotlight - Fire Emblem Fates

Nua

@GreatCrippler I presume you got the special edition cartridge with all 3 paths on it at or near launch. If so, good find, that was next to impossible to get for a while, at least in North America.

You have all 3 story paths, but none of the DLC that was released after the game came out. That varies from new maps with new classes for units to become, to some new story missions/lore where you don't use your own units with their stats, weapons and skills, but ones the game assigns you.

Re: Countdown: 3DS eShop Spotlight - Fire Emblem Fates

Nua

@GreenTea Fates doesn't deserve all of the hate it gets, but things do add up. Corrin is a bit of a bland protagonist, the return of a popular feature from Awakening that made zero sense in Fates, the sine graph difficulty curve of Birthright, the overcomplication of reclassing units and cutting down on options from Awakening. Pair Up being changed to Dual Guard only every 5 attacks instead of a chance on every attack, and the removal of Dual Strike if units are paired up instead of right next to each other. Fates does allow a Dual Strike partner to use their skills, ala Astra or Luna unlike Awakening, but when it came to gameplay, myself and others preferred Awakening instead. Fates tried to balance some of the overpowered things about Awakening, and needed to because of the multiplayer, but it took some of the fun out of the game.

Fates really doesn't deserve all of the hate, but the game has it's fair share of faults. I admire what Fates tried to do, but always find myself wishing I was playing Awakening instead.

Re: Switch Online Missions & Rewards Could Be Getting Metroid Prime Remastered Icons

Nua

This lines up as Fire Emblem Engage icons are set to leave on March 2nd. The real shocking part however is that Nintendo still hasn't issued a "Monday" replacement. When NSO Icons started, they began with Mario Odyssey updating every Monday (NA 5PM PST anyway) and then Animal Crossing on the first Monday of every month. I'm not going to say every month has had a Monday weekly updating set of icons, but for the majority of NSO Icon months, there has been more than just 1 game available, and it is usually the Monday game as the staple, and the Thursday game (Fire Emblem Engage currently). Nintendo not choosing to rerun any game on Monday this month has been bizarre.

Re: Sonic Origins Plus Has Been Rated In Korea

Nua

@infernogott Sonic Origins Plus was confirmed to be only releasing in North Korea on the critically acclaimed Kimbox. Everyone else will just have to accept this inevitably, like North Korea winning the World Cup every year.

While I agree with you that it is nice to see things named properly, North Korea could never be considered for this conversation in the first place.

Re: Sonic Origins Plus Has Been Rated In Korea

Nua

Seems like a lot of people are unaware of how the games were remastered for Origins in the first place. These games were remade in RSDK, commonly called the Retro Engine, and Sonic CD (2011) and Sonic 1 and 2 (2013) were already done ahead of time. Meanwhile Sonic 3 & Knuckles was riddled with bugs at launch, lacked the polish the game needed, and the physics didn't feel completely right. If you ever wondered why Knuckles wasn't playable in Sonic CD, it's because they took the 2011 port as is.

To do Sonic 3D Blast, or Knuckles Chaotix would require the games to be completely remade unless Sega chooses to take the easy way out and update the time with a Genesis/32X emulator.

Very confident that Origins Plus will just be a physical collection, and maybe a new mode ala Mission Mode, but not new games.

Re: Every Nintendo Switch Online Game Boy (Color) Game Ranked

Nua

@JohnnyMind I didn't solo you out, there were just multiple people posting as if NL made the list instead of letting the user averages do it.

I don't know what I would personally rate Tetris GB as, but in terms of importance it's up there in GameBoy history with the first Pokemon games. However, a game's legacy shouldn't impact it's review score.

Re: Every Nintendo Switch Online Game Boy (Color) Game Ranked

Nua

For those complaining about the ratings, this is off of NL user's self reported game scores, averaged. If you believe Link's Awakening is a 10/10 game, then rank it as such. As of the time of this posting, Tetris is at 9.1 and Link's Awakening is 9.06. Convince others in the comment section why the game should be ranked higher instead of just saying it should be, you might convince someone to actually rank the game, or at the very least possibly change their opinion.

Re: PSA: Don't Worry, 3DS System Transfers Will Still Be Possible Following eShop Closure

Nua

@SportyMarioSonicMix Didn't realize you still used this website. Immediately recognized your style of asking questions before your name.

The 3DS will play the games without lag. However, the amount of time it takes to start the 3DS and for some games to load does increase. The games do not slow down and lag during gameplay though. I cannot give you a percentage, never calculated it, and it gets longer the more full a 128GB SD card is full compared to a 16 or 32GB SD card.

If you have 300 titles that are 1 block big, then that would be different than having 300 titles ranging from 50 to 25,000 blocks. As for internal storage, 3DS doesn't have any built in internal storage outside of 1024 blocks to store DSiWare to.

Can't really answer your question for Wii U. I imagine it would be different for both Wii U with the quality of external hard drive or SSD, and the 3DS depending on the class of SD card, and actual quality of the card.

Re: Billy Mitchell Photos Emerge Showing Non-Original Donkey Kong Hardware Apparently Used For Disputed Scores

Nua

@Elock The difference is that Mitchell claimed he was playing on real hardware, not emulation. Lying about what category your run would be included in can disqualify it, and this is just a further nail in the coffin. Mitchell could have said that the machine had the stick replaced, but he emphasized it was a stock machine. This is compounded with footage that shows the level loading differently on emulator than it does on real hardware, and Mitchell's video record matches emulation, not hardware.

Re: Talking Point: Does Nintendo's Next Console Have To Be 'Another' Switch?

Nua

Nintendo typically makes 2 versions of their console or handheld before drastically upgrading, from NES to SNES, continuing the naming scheme. N64 and GameCube continued the emphasis on 4 player gaming, Wii and Wii U were apart of the same family.

The GameBoy Color was a stopgap for the GameBoy Advance, it wasn't initially a part of Nintendo's plans, but they couldn't realize their plans for a GameBoy Successor at the time. The DS and 3DS follow up on that continued 2 entries trend.

I would be surprised if Nintendo didn't make a Switch 2, but I'd be shocked if they made a Switch 3.

Re: NYXI Reveals A GameCube-Inspired Switch Controller With No Drifting

Nua

@Anti-Matter I have some friends with DDR mats, but it turns out they paid a lot to get dance pads made by Precision Dance Pads. Not thin flimsy plastic, solid ones that won't move around. Foolish me for thinking those were affordable at all, but I thought they were, and that a DDR Fanatic like you would have one too.

Re: Random: You Should Definitely Propose To Your Partner With This Gigantic Pikachu Ring

Nua

@nukatha There had to be a more respectful way you could have voiced your frustration here.

I don't read every article this writer posts, so I can't comment on whether or not their articles have an agenda or not. The ones I recall do not, but that could just be a coincidence.

The writer didn't put their opinion into the gender of the two Pikachus, they stated a general fact. A same sex couple would most likely be turned off by the fact the Pikachus wouldn't match their relationship. This is an economic comment about a product not reaching target customers, couples, primarily Pokemon fans, ready to be engaged. That's a limited portion of the engagement ring market. Having 3 different variants for the ring (different tail notches) might have been decided to be too expensive and not worth it, especially with the Pokemon Company most likely not approving of that in the first place, but the comment is valid entirely. Same sex couples make up more than 0% of the market, and with the product already targeting a niche group compared to a stereotypical engagement ring, limiting the buyer pool by excluding customers is a valid comment.

Maybe I'm just wrong entirely, but I saw Kate's comment as pointing out a "limitation" of the product, and excluding potential buyers instead of pushing an agenda. Most companies don't care who you marry, they just want your money, and for your monthly payments not to bounce.
